Storage for Logic Studio

I have an intel imac 2.4ghz with 2gb memory and have been using Garageband. I received Logic Studio as a Xmas gift and would like to know what would be the best external hard drive to use to save all my audio & midi music to. Also should Logic itself be put on to the external drive or just the recorded material (songs) I am pretty much Johnny come lately with computers but have been recording on other formats for several years would dearly love some help with setting this up cheers

I'll skip the one about the 'best' external drive, but to begin at the beginning: You can put sound content (Apple Loops and Instrument Samples) on an external drive, but you cannot put Logic or plugins on an external drive, it has to be on the startup drive.
However, the procedure to move samplecontent is tricky. In some cases it seems the installer actually enables you to directly install samples & loops on another drive, and it some cases it does not.
If you are planning to use only Logic Studio, I'ld advise you to install everything on your startup disk, and use the external disk to record audio to.
Off course, your setup also depends on how you will be using it. If you record audio regularly, use the external disk as a recording drive. If you hardly record audio and plan on using large sample- or loops libraries, then you could install all that on your external. Let me know.

Tutorials for Logic Studio?

I was wondering if anyone might be able to direct me to finding a tutorial for logic studio. I just bought the program yesterday and thought that would be the quickest and easiest way for me to understand the program. If no such thing exists than let me know too, thanks.

Mac Pro for Logic Studio...advice?

Hi Folks,
I am contemplating the purchase of a Mac Pro specifically for running Logic Studio, and would like to know what significance multiple processors have on its performance.
Money is tight so I am considering the single processor option, based on the fact that in the past most applications did not make much use of the second processor. However I am a recent defector from Digital Performer and have no idea what the story is with the latest version of Logic.
My needs are fairly humble, not doing anything that really requires massive amounts of tracks. However I don't want to be filled with regret later.
I am contemplating the base model with one processor and then adding an additional 8GB of ram and 2 x 1 terrabyte drives. Would run the system and apps from the 320GB drive, and partition the first 1TB drive with a recording partition and a storage partition. I would use the second 1TB drive for backups.
Would appreciate some feedback from more experienced users....

i opted for the 8-core because logic can use them. but i am also using sample libraries a lot, so i needed decent horsepower. however, i feel that this 8-core mac pro has the potential to last a good while. especially when ssd drives drop in price later this year and will make sample streaming and system operations a breeze.

Pro Applications Update 2008-02 Update for Logic Studio Owners?

I received Compressor 3.0.3 as part of the Logic Studio 8 bundle.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 states that it upgrades Compressor 3.0.3, however, Software Update does not offer to update Compressor nor can I download it manually since it is demanding that I provide a Final Cut Pro serial number (which I do not have, I have only the Logic Studio serial number which it won't take).
Does anyone have any idea what Logic Studio owners are supposed to do to obtain Pro Applications Update 2008-02?

Well, I would agree except that the update specifically provides an update for Compressor 3.0.3 which Logic Studio owners have as well and the update description states that it is recommended for all Logic Studio users.
"Pro Applications Updates improve reliability for Apple's professional applications and are recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Server, and Logic Studio.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 addresses installation issues, compatibility updates, and general performance issues and improves overall stability.
Applications included in the update:
Final Cut Pro 6.0.4
Compressor 3.0.3"

Best computer for logic studio

hi I am running logic express on my G4 & soon i want to upgrade my computer to one which will run logic studio comfortably for the next few years, what i want to know is would the processing power an 8 core G5 be overkill, would logic studio use this processing power or would a quad core be sufficient or even a powerbook. I dont want to overspend but then I want to run the program as smoothly & quickly as possible. thanks

Logic supports multi processing quite well. So you can take advantage of all of the cores that your machine supplies. There are some minor restrictions, but in general it scales quite well. Anyhow, I believe from what you write and that you can actually work on a G4 currently that you'll be more than happy with any recent iMac or Mac notebook. Don't spend your money on something that you don't need. Mac Pros are very fine machines, but they're also quite expensive and way too powerful for the average user.

Which new Mac Pro for Logic Studio?

Hi everyone,
I'm on the verge of ordering a new Mac Pro, but am tossed up over the quad 2.93 or the Octa 2.26. I'll be using it mainly for composing with Logic Studio. I find its a bit of a pain to record the sounds from my Motif ES8, so I'm going to start using software instruments more.
Does anyone know if Logic uses multiple cores? I googled this and couldn't find much on it.
If I get the quad, I'm going to load it to the max of 8G RAM. If I get the Octa 2.26, I will get 12G RAM. Will Logic take advantage of the extra RAM?
Right now, I'm leaning towards the quad 2.26. I keep my Macs for a long time. I currently have a 4 year old G5 iMac with 2G RAM.

Logic works fine, but when I need to recording with Omnisphere or Kontakt 3... or any Live Instruments... (anyway I'm able to use the Maximum power request patches of all 3rd party plugs that are installed in My G5)
I need MORE SINGLE THREAD POWER... because Logic and most of 3rdparty plugs allow you to use ONLY ONE CORE (or processor).
The ability to overclocking of the Nehalem processor is very interesting...
you will be able to have up to 3.3Ghz in a single thread operation!
So... I'm not sure to buy a new Mac before Snow Leopard... because I can use my G5 smoothly and if needed I have my Black Macbook for adding power (I have 2X Motu interface (828 MK3 and Mk2).
But if hypothetically I were to buy now...: the best Mac value for money semms to be the Quad 2.93 with full Ram set 8GB!
I don't believe about Multitrhead is needed for Live Audio performances
The power on the single core is very important...
I love to export as Audio the tracks
when I use 3rd party Instruments the ammount of crash risk during the Mix down the percentage are:
with Instruments in Live mode about 80% during professional mixdown
With Audio tracks 0% of crash diring professional Mixdown
Logic Pro is a rock solid DAW if used only with Audio tracks and Logic native instruments!
I'm able to MIX more than 160 Stereo tracks with My System...
I can wait for Snow Leopard Machines.

Help!!! The best audio interface for Logic Studio

Hey y'all,
I'm looking for an audio interface. Requirements are: microphone- (XLR), instrument- (1/4") and midi-connectors. I'd like to record everything 1 by 1 all by myself, without audio playback/slowing-down issues. I'm quite new with recording and have no idea which one suits my system and software the best. I want to record as easy as possible and with the most beautiful results available. Price range of up to €500.

No Soundtrack Pro or ProApp updates for Logic Studio users?

I attempted to download updates for Soundtrack Pro and the ProApp update but was asked for a Final Cut serial number - - whichm as a Logic Studio owner I do not have. So what's up - - are these updates not signifcant for those who purchased and use Logic Studio? Please advise.

You shouldn't need to go to the download page, just run software update and it should show up. Do any OS and Pro App updates first, the STP upgrade won't show up there until you do.

What desk/interface for logic studio 8

Ive recently bought logic studio 8 for my mac but dont know what interface or even usb desk to get. Would firewire be better? Ive only got a budget of around £200.00, i would use it for mainly recording guitar/ bass, keys and vocals. Ive had a look at a PHONIC Helix Board 12 Mixing Console, any good?

Please bare with me, as I'm not a computer expert (especially when it comes to video cards) but what is the problem with his current video card? How would upgrading a video card help make music?
edit: I discovered my video card is an ATI Radeon 9800 XT, so its indeed a different card. Sorry about that, but it is still a PCI video card. Does this make a difference?

Licensing agreement for Logic studio

Having just purchased logic studio as an upgrade from Logic 7, i was looking forward to a dongle free existence for my macbook. however, whereas logic has gone on to the studio G5 without fault, when i try and launch logic on my macbook, it tells me that 'the license file will not be written as the user does not have enough priveliges'.
seeing as the license agreement states that you can put logic studio on two machines so long as they are not being used at the same time, can anyone out there enlighten me as to why i cant use logic on my macbook too without having to enetr in the details and serial number AND put my old logic 7 dongle in too?

Just paid $749AU for logic studio. Now logic 9 is $200. store credit? refund?

If I bought Logic Studio 3 weeks ago for $749.00, Do you think I could take it back and buy the 'on its own version of logic 9' ,for the now price of $199.00? I would think anyone in my shoes would find this extremely frustrating. And I think even a store credit will do nicely as I plan to buy a new macbook pro in 2 weeks from the same mac store!(hopefully not on the cusp of a massive price drop)

ahaaaa ! garageband is hardly a substitute dude. . u mmight like it, But I run a professional studio for musicians.
& I can use logic (& ableton) quite alright on a macbook pro 17'' (or any decent mac for that matter)
This post was about the 'price' & refund of a purchase, Not the prospect of what I should or shouldnt use..
I'm not sure my clients would be too happy about hiring a studio with garageband on it...
& also, this post is old as u can see on the date.

Does the new white macbook have enough juice for Logic Studio?

I am planning to buy the new white macbook and Logic Studio. The macbook has 2Ghz processor and 2GB ram. Will that be enough to run Logic effectively or do I need more power? I could afford to upgrade to 4GB ram but can't afford a Mac book pro or the 2.4Ghz processor macbook. I will be using an Edirol UA-20 audio interface.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That should be more than enough, although it of course also depends on what you are going to do with Logic. If you are going to use big sampled instruments, it is a good idea to go for 4 GB RAM.
The processors are powerful enough, about 2.5 times Logics' minimum requirement.

XS key for Logic Studio

I recently upgraded my OS from tiger to leopard. I was running Logic studio in tiger but when I went to install in leopard it asked me for an XS key. 1) what is that? 2) where do i get it? I need to get LP8 up and running asap! Thanks

Was your copy of LS a full version, or an upgrade from Logic 7 or before?

If you bought a full version of LS and it's asking for an XSkey, you need to contact Apple to get this resolved.
If you bought an upgrade from LP7 or before, and you've already previously had it running, you'll know what an XSkey is, and will already have one. If you bought an upgrade from Logic Express, you should not be asked for an XSkey, you should be able to enter your LE7 serial number as an upgrade qualification.
In any case, I suspect your best bet to get this resolved is contact Apple, have your serial number handy, and I'm sure they will sort you out.

Can you get a new serial number for Logic Studio?

so i just bought Logic Studio from a friend and i successfully installed it onto my mid 2012 13-inch MacBook Pro (entry level). Problem is that after the software was installed, i opened one of the applications that came with the bundle (Logic Pro) and it requested me to enter my serial number. I typed the right one and it didnt let me in. I tried to do that with all the other applications that came with Logic Studio but none of the apps let me in even though i tried more than a bunch of times.
So my question is: can you get a NEW serial number?
if not, then is there another solution that wont require me to download hack files?
