Storage Info From About This Mac Hasn't Reflected my 58GB Deletion

I deleted all my photos and videos (45 GB and 13.8 GB respectively) from my Macbook Air running OS/X Yosemite 10.10.2
How come my storage details haven't updated?
The photos and videos were original content which I deleted from iPhoto using the Apple Key + ALT + Delete combo-key. Also, I did this so I can upgrade to 10.10.3 which apparently needs 7GB of storage which I wouldn't have had without deleting my photos and videos. And I still don't have that storage amount because my deletions aren't reflecting. There's nothing to empty in the trash too.
Thank you for your time and assistance.

  • Can't get info from "about This Mac"

I want to purchase a replacement battery for my Powerbook g4 15". For this I need the model #, which normally I can obtain by clicking on "About this mac" from the apple logo at the top of the screen. But not today.Absolutely nothing happens when I click it besides that it's highlighted in blue. I can get "Software Update", "System Preferences", "Dock", "Recent Items." I can surf the internet with Safari.
    What is going on?
Is there another way to access this information?
    Thank you....

  • From about this Mac -Storage, my only HDD is full. there are 144 GB on Backups. How find and delete it. Macbook pro running Maverick OS X.

Hi,  From about this Mac, my only HDD is full. When I have clicked and opened Storage screen when I've saw that there are 144 GB on Backups. I don't know which backup is it. and I really need help to find and delete it. I have Macbook pro running Maverick OS X.
I have a external HDD for time machine, but this backup I didn't know yet.
Please pleople... someone could help me?  I'm in troubles.
    Sandro

Linc Davis,  According below:  could I delete those snapshots from MobileBackups folder?   would it solve my problem? ( if I want not my HDD 80% full)     - Thank you a lot in advance.
Ordinarily, the best way to view your Local snapshots is via the normal Time Machine display, perquestion #15.  If for some reason that's not working, you can see them via the Finder.
From a Finder menubar, select Go > Go to Folder and type /Volumes in the prompt, and select theMobileBackups folder.   You'll see the same structure as for Time Machine backups on a separate volume:  a Backups.backupdb folder containing a folder for your Mac, which contains a time-stamped folder for each snapshot.  Inside each of those is a folder for each disk/partition that was backed-up, containing the same folder structure as on the original, with the contents as of the time of the backup.
Note that nothing in the size column is meaningful (if you Get Info on the MobileBackups folder, for example, it will show the total amount of space on the drive it's on!   It will show dashes for the Backups.backupdb folder, or any of the dated snapshot folders).

    Hi all,
I tried a different charger myself (the power source is reliable). But it does not work too. I think I need to bring it down to apple shop.
But is quite disappointing with the new apple product I have. Cos not only my battery is not charging, my built in speaker, the sound is like broken too. So I can hear some noisy sound when I play music.
I have a power book G4, and the power book, everything is still in good condition. Imagine how many yrs I have with the power book G4. This power book I never bring to do any services before. I sometimes really suspect is it Apple drop quality
(cos the office new bought mac from my boss, the USB port is not working too..)
But thanks all for the reply I think I need to bring it down to apple shop. Thanks!

  • Storage values under about this mac displaying incorrectly, but amount of space used IS correct. Any ideas?

I noticed recently that the "storage" under "about this mac" is displaying incorrectly. It doesn't show the correct values for my photos, videos, and audio files. It classifies this data under "other". I have been searching all over the internet, I went to the Apple genius bar yesterday and they recommended I re-install OSX. I did and it still shows up incorrectly. They were baffled, said they never really came across this issue. I have tried re-indexing spotlight, that didn't seem to help.
The amount of storage used IS correct. It just doesn't show up under the correct categories in storage, under about this mac. Also, the computer seems to work fine. No real issues. It's a mid 2012 MBP. 500gb hard drive. Most recent OSX is installed.
I DO NOT think it is local snapshots, cause my backups category is small and the amount of space used and free is correct. I have downloaded omnidisk sweeper to confirm this.
I have seen a few posts on here and around the web referring to this, but no real answers. I have also reviewed Pondini's info on this to no avail.
    Does anyone have any ideas?!?!

    Also,
I had installed a version of parallels with windows 7, but deleted it. Would parallels be causing my computer to index incorrectly? I I used appcleaner to delete all the parallels files so I do not have it anymore.

  • I want to check my storage but my "About This Mac" will not launch. Any other ways to view my storage? (Not iCloud)

Like I wrote above I just want to see how much storage I have left, any other methods on how to view it?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try to open About This Mac. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Remove ATA from 'About this Mac' window

I replaced my MATSHITACD-RW CW-8122 on my PB to a straight HD, Hitachi HTS541616J9AT00. My question is when I open the 'About this Mac' window it still shows the MATSHITACD-RW CW-8122 even though it has been removed. How do I get rid of that info because my DVD/CD burning software references the non-existant drive.
    ??

Ok cornelius it was a while back when I changed it because the drive it came w/was becoming noisy and the time I had 40GB of music and tons of pictures so I figured it was time to replace. This is exactly what I see in the 'System Profiler' (I figured out that is what I am referring not 'About this Mac')
    Hitachi HTS541616J9AT00:

Other than this info I don't still have the manuals or anything. It is Mac compatible is all I know.
BTW this is the original drive it came with which wass removed:

  • How do i remove a failed apple hardware test from About this Mac?

I ran  Apple Hardware Test quicktest using the wrong disk/ version of AHT that did not support my motherboard.  Now under About this Mac .. more detail.. diagnostics it shows this failed test. i want it out of there. Thanks, jim

Long story .. but board is a different model than original.  ... bought water damage repair off of Ebay... got a call that it could not be repaired but they offered to replace the board for only 20$ more... so i let them do it. Original board was early 2008 2.4 GHZ Core Duo, new board is 2.2GHZ Core duo late 20007...  they put an older board in than was original. i'm not real happy but it works... I guess you get what you pay for.

  • Why is there a difference of 17GB in storage remaining between 'about this mac' and the hdd in finder?

I am running Mavericks on my macbook air. I had approx 17gb of movies which I transfered to my external drive and then deleted them. When i checked my storage space in 'about my mac' it says i have 17.5gb remainin which should read around 35gb. When i open up finder and click the 'i' tab on my hdd it says there is 35gb remaining which is as it should be. Please help, it's doing my head in. I never had any dramas running mountain lion!

If you have Time Machine turned on, the difference could be the Local Backups the system is storing temporarily until you sync to your Time Machine backup drive. Sice those files are "low priority" and will be overwritten by the user if required, the Finder does not acknowledge them as "used". However, the profiler will count them as used.
See if syncing yoru Time Machine "resets" for the one showing less space available.

  • Why after deleting all 70 gb of movies on my macbook pro do I still show 60gb in the storage section on About this Mac? I am trying to create enough space to load Yosemite.

I am trying to create enough space to load Yosemite.
I currently have about 5.4gb of unused space.
I have deleted about 70gb of movies (all movies from the "files") but still show some 60gb of movies under "storage" in "about this computer". I have no idea where these could be.
There is also about 150gb of "other" that cannot be all the files (I do not have that many )
Would be grateful for suggestions on how to create more space on my computer

Have you emptied the trash since deleting files?
How many files are on your computer, I would dare to guess that you, just like me, don't actually know that. The 150GB are files on your computer (regardless of whether you think they are not) the next step will be to identify them.

  • I need to delete things off my computer but don't know what "other" signifies. (As seen on the Storage section in "About this Mac".

I'm nearly out of storage and want to clean up my computer.  I don't understand what "other" means.  The bulk of my storage is taken up in that category.  I want to be able to use an external drive back up but want to delete old and useless stuff first.  Can you please explain what "Other" may mean?  I've already purchased all the extra storage that this 2007 iMac can hold.
    Thanks!

    Some explanations of other:
    http://pondini.org/OSX/DiskSpace.html
    http://pondini.org/TM/30.html
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5142
One of the biggest is trash make sure it is emptied, also iPhoto trash must be sent to the regular trash, in iPhoto open the trash click command a to select everything in there, press shift command delete to send it to the trash.
Then from finder shift command delete to dump the regular trash.
If you have alot it may take a while.
    Hope this helps

  • I have about 50GB of free storage according to About this Mac, but when I try to download anything, I get a notice that there's no room.

Storage says there's 46.34GB free but when I try to download things, I'm apparently at capacity. I'm erasing the free space now in the hopes that that helps, but there is still the problem of 66.75GB of "other" listed in storage that I want to take care of. Any help is appreciated!

Chris , thanks for the prompt reply. The dvd was produced by a third party that I found on line . I had a number of old mini digital video cassettes from a Sony Handycam. I can play the DVD's on my laptop but I can't edit them on iMovies to delete a lot of the rubbish on them. I have five DVD's and three downloaded without any problem but the last two are according to iMovies non importable.

  • How can i understand what is "other" in the storage menu in "about this mac"?

    Hello everyone ,

  • About This Mac Storage shows wrong size

    Hello, the story so far
    Actions:
    - MBA early 2014 (128GB) maverick updated to yosemite in November 2014
    - fresh install of Yosemite via wifi in January 2015 - followed instructions as suggested here http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14243
    Consequences after fresh installation:
    - About This Mac > Storage shows total hard disk size 120GB, About This Mac > Storage shows 110GB
    - About This Mac > Storage shows approx 9GB of apps. The actual applications folder size is far, far, far less than 9GB as showed in Terminal.
    - About This Mac > Storage shows approx 1GB of data for videos, audio and photos. There are no photos, video, documents stored on MBA.
For the records, no device data was sync after fresh installation and the trash is being emptied securely.
I am new to MAC so I would be grateful if you could help me understanding why About This Mac > Storage is showing more data stored than Terminal and Finder and what I should do to rectify the discrepancy.
Many thanks of your understanding and support.
    Cheers, puzzled_me

Kappy, may thanks. No difference, Get Info for the folders returns same data size as About This Mac > Storage
On a different note I have noticed that there are two Library folders under harddrive. See screenshot attached.
System/Library (6.8GB) folder contains subfolders that are also contained under Library (2.7GB) folder.
Could that be the problem?? Is that normal to have two Library folders??
    Thank you for your help.

  • I am trying to connect to apple support and it keeps asking me to put in the SN of my MAC and when i do it says that the SN is invalid I am putting in the SN from under about this mac and it is the same as the one one the bottom of the MAC any ideas ?

Did you purchase this product direct from Apple online, in an Apple Store, or through a third-party authorized reseller? Or did you buy it from an original owner whose Applecare plan was supposed to be transitioned to a new owner, by them?
Do you have an original shipping carton the unit arrived in?
If the product was a retail 'open carton' purchase and no
back-track is possible, contact the reseller.
And if the computer had seen a major service with logic
board replaced, etc, it may have other issues with serial
number vs one they may have assigned it. Usually a
new logic board may have the SN flashed or if a unit
was determined to be a reman, a new # assigned. But
that would appear in System Profiler, if officially reman.
If you registered a product anywhere with Apple, it would show on a web page along with its serial numbers, going back several years, at this page after you log in there.
    https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action
A blue text with triangle See all products and services opens an Apple ID
sign-in window, then the page changes to show your items & info about them.
If you run the serial number through online Lookup, what appears?
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php
Not sure if this helps, 'your product' should appear - if registered.
    Good luck & happy computing!
