Storage issue on my 8Gb iPhone 4?!

My 8GB iPhone 4 has 0 bytes available but the total of my apps is less than 2GB! I have 11GB of free iCloud storage still available...what am I doing wrong?? My phone keeps crashing and it's soooooo slow. I can't download anything but I store sooo little on it that I'm regularly streaming! I would like to update my software but I can't download that either!
Can anyone teach this novice about how to fix this?

Icloud storage has nothing at all to do with the storage on your iphone.
Try restoring your iphone.

  • 8GB iPhone thinks it is a 4GB iPhone

I was having issues with my 8GB iPhone and took it to a Genis Bar and after much trouble and making two trips, they finally replaced my iPhone. That was great however now that I have had the phone for two weeks I am noticing that the phone is showing that the capacity is only 3.5GB and not the 8GB that is shown on the back of the iPhone and what they were suppose to be giving me. Has anyone else had a issue like this? When I talked to tech support the had never heard of this happen and told me to take phone back to Apple Store because they did not have any phone to swap me out.

Sounds like you were given a 4GB iPhone as an exchange for your 8GB iPhone.
Was the capacity on this iPhone ever shown as 7.3GB (Settings > General > About), which is the actual capacity of an 8GB iPhone?
Since your exchange was likely a refurb, it is possible a new case showing 8GB was installed on a 4GB.
I would take it back to the Apple Store.

  • ICloud storage issue; Restoring iPhone calendar from iMac after accidental iCloud deletion

I set up iCloud to back up calendars and contacts and for find my phone.  Initially, it seemed to work alright.  Then I got messages on iPhone that there wasn't enough iCloud storage, even though the storage tab showed that I had used none of my iCloud storage at all.  So I turned off iCloud/contacts.   In iTunes I switched back from iCloud backup to backup from my iMac.
Later I got the same message about not enough room in iCloud even though only calendars involved.  So I truned off iCloud/calendar on my iPhone and was given the choice of keeping the calendars from the iCloud or deleting them (a foolish choice without a failsafe!!!).  I clumsily and mistakenly hit delete.  My calendars have most recently been synced with my new iMac and appear on the iMac and should also be in TM.  But right now there is no data in my iPhone calendar.
When i go to calendars within the iiphone calendar there is a check next to Calender under "from MY Mac" and no reference to iCloud.  (There are no separate calendars for me, my wife, and joint.  Does this mean somehow these calendars have been merged because of iCloud?)
I don't want to do another sync until I can make sure that the sync with the iMac will resotre the calendar(s) to the iPnone.  How do I do this?
Do I have to do anything on the iMac before I try a sync?
How do I avoid these problems in the future?  The only thing I really would like from iCloud is "find my phone".  How do I keep that capability without backing up or su=yncing otherwise anything through iCloud?
    Is iCloud still Beta?

Apple walked me through this and helped me revert to backing up on my iMac, using iCloud only for find my iPhone and iMac.  The process, however, is not straightforward and what the respective mac and iPhone support people (yes, they have that kind of specialization) led me through was clearer, if somewhat convoluted, than any instructions on Apple's support or community pages.
Since my main concern was not losing my calendar and contacts information, the key was saving that, via export, to my desktop.  Sorry I didn't write down all the other steps - but I see that as Apple's job.  Back in the days of the IIC, Apple's manual was a model of clarity and completeness at the same time.
Bottom line is while my immediate concerns were resolved, the underlying iCloud storage issue was not.  On my iPhone, I was being told that my attempts to backup to the iCloud failed because I didn't have enough storage, even though I determined almost none of my alloted space was used.  This issue is not helped by the multiplicity of settings relating to iCloud, or the interfaces (such as the iCloud on the iMac through Mavericks) which present a screen of icons without additional information.
For my purposes, iCloud remains Beta.

  • HT204150 I purchased more storage on cloud for my Iphone because i received"out of storage space"messages it has not resolved the issues still receiving same message help.

Hello I purchased more cloud storage because I continued to receive messages saying I was out of storage. I can not take photos despite having only 20 pics on the device and not many apps. Everytime I have updated my phone in the past with the apple updates, my phone develops a new issue. I have a 4s. I need guidance on storage issue. If purchasing the additional cloud storage would not remedy the situation, how do I cancel the cloud purchase. I just purchased it yesterday and I have 15 days to request a full refund according to cloud.

    Hey Ms. Bert,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you may be running low on storage on your physical device, rather than in the cloud. Which means, purchasing an iCloud storage upgrade would not resolve this issue (as you have suspected). So let’s get that taken care of first (note: you will need to contact Apple to cancel your plan):
    iCloud: Cancel your storage upgrade

Now, let’s dig into why you are losing storage on your device. You can you check your Usage, as outlined in this resource:

Depending on the application, you may be able to free space up from this screen.
    Thanks,

  • IPhone 5c storage issue

My 8gb iPhone 5c says I've used 5.7gb and only have 222mb left. Any ideas why? Thanks

If your iphone is 8 decimal gigabytes, your operating system will report that it is approximately: 8 * 0.93 = 7.4 binary gigabytes, minus what the OS occupies, equals about 6GB's. That's all you had to begin with...about 6GB's of storage.

  • How to restore a deleted iCloud backup? I deleted the backup to free up the 5 GB free storage and now on my iPhone some of my Contacts are missing a phone

How to restore a deleted iCloud storage backup?
I deleted it all to free up the free 5 GB storage and now on my iPhone 5s some of my Contacts are missing a phone # info and some of the Contacts are missing entirely. Thank you.

I used this to restore my deleted notes from Time Machine, hope this helps others
    closed Notes,
    turned WiFi off,
entered finder/go+option/ to 'get to library':  /Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Notes/
entered TM and selected the 3 files/ hit restore/ keep both (just to make sure, then I deleted the newer file, not the 'restored' file when this worked out)
opened notes and my deleted notes were back so I copied my notes into pages as a backup,
turned on WiFi and the notes disappeared!
replaced my restored notes by copy/pasting my backups into notes/iCloud....
notes/mac would not show across iCloud.... don't remeber this being an issue prior to Mavericks when 'all' notes were selected?
Apple needs to hear from us so they can fix glitches like this.  TM was created for instances like this, hopefully this is just an oversite.  Pass this along to Apple Feedback/iCloud/bug.  If enough of us flag such issues, hopfully it's addressed on the next update.
Dear Apple, this should be much easier than it is. We should be able to open Notes, go into Time Machine, and restore anything regardless if it's on my Mac or on the cloud.

  • 8GB iPhone 4 running out of memory

I have an 8GB iPhone 4, currently IOS 5.1.1, that has only 2.2GB space available.  The IOS 6 update requires 2.4GB of available storage.
What can I do to use my memory more effectively?  Where can I save space?
I would lke to update to IOS 6, but not sure if that's possible.
    Thanks.

One way is to sync photos to your computer and then delete them from your phone.

  • Ios 8.2 storage issue

I have an iPhone 5s 16GB. Ever since I updated to ios 8.2, I have had random storage issues. One day after updating I received a message "storage almost full".  30 seconds later another message that my storage was full. Shut off my phone and did a hard reset. No change. Started to delete pictures, videos and apps. Available storage began to increase. After all of this it reported I had 1G available. Phone was good for about 6 hours. Noticed storage was decreasing by the hour and was down to 324 Mb. Deleted almost all my apps. Storage showed 1.3 Gb. Thought problem was solved. Noticed last night storage was 2.0 GB. Thought this was weird. This morning back to square one 0 bytes available. Apple needs to get it together with this update!!  I've read several other post on this forum with exactly the same issue. Deleted a few more apps this morning. 116mb free at this time, but I don't expect it to last.
Wanted to start a new thread with this problem.

You don't have enough physical storage space on the device for the update to take place. The process can use ~6 -~7 GB of storage space. You can possibly free up the required space by deleting apps and other data. The easiest way to do the update with all of the deleting required is to update the device using iTunes & your syncing PC. No additional storage space is required on the device when updating through iTunes.
Beforehand though, you should delete the update residing on your device under Settings/Usage, then under the Starge heading: Manage Storage. A list of installed apps will be displayed here. You can delete the update by finding it in the list (it should be near the top since they are sorted by size, largest first), tapping it, then tapping the red Delete App button.
EDIT: BTW, after an update, there's no way to revert back to the previous version. If you don't have the required space on the device for the process, the update will simply not install.

  • IPhone.... well ALL APPLE PRODUCTS... missing memory (8GB iPhone)

have you ever had a iPod, and noticed it had less memory than you payed for?? go to "about" on any apple product wiith storage, and i gaurentee that it has less than it claims. my 4G nano has 3.6 GB, my 8GB iphone has 7.3 GB (if you have a MAC mini than i gaurentee there is at least 2GB missing. tell me, why does apple do this?? for the operating system? it shouldnt be that way if iPhone takes .7 GB to function then they should really make a 8.7GB model and hide the .7GB ..........

    nick0HHHlass,
There is two things at work here. One, is the difference between 1000, and 1024, carried out to several factors, as well as space needed for the software for the computer or the iPhone. This article discusses it, as well as my own explanation below:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30065
So first off, an 8GB iPhone has flash storage memory with at 8,000,000,000 bytes. When the drive is labeled, that is rounded off to 8GB because when labeled they use 1000 bytes per kilobyte, and 1000 kilobytes per megabyte, and 1000 megabytes for gigabyte. However, when a computer looks at a device it looks at it by powers of 2. This applies to any storage drive whether its intended for a Mac, PC, server, iPod, etc.
A computer divides the 8,000,000,000 bytes by 1024 to get kilobytes, then by 1024 to get megabytes, and then by 1024 to get gigabytes. So that it is reported at around 7.5 GB. Then from that there is space used for the software to run your iPhone. This is the same with any computer. Look at the hard drive properties (Windows-based PC) or Get Info (Mac). Disk utility gives more information than get info. For example the iMac I am using has a drive with 160,041,885,696 Bytes, but after formatting it is reported as 148.9 GB (159,907,630,080 Bytes). This article contains the same information in regards to iPod drives:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60955
Second, more is space is lost for the data needed "format" or organize the drive. The space used for the formatting becomes less efficient as the drive gets larger, so its not a set percentage. This article discusses efficiency in formatting as drive sizes get bigger:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=8647
Additional space is used for the iPhone's own software. This is the same with any computer.
Other things that may take up additional space, pre-installed software beyond the OS on a computer typically ranges between 5-25 GB currently. In addition some Windows-based PCs may have additional space in a hidden "restore" partition used for reinstalling software.
    Hope this helps to explain,
    Nathan C.

  • 8GB iPhone and U Connect/BlueTooth

Can someone tell me why my 8GB iPhone after I updated to 2.0 does not operate Bluetooth properly? I was using my 1.0 iPhone with my UConnect with my 2008 Jeep Liberty as a hands free phone since March of this year. The weekend I updated to 2.0 on the iPhone it is not working at all. I am really miffed because I called Chrysler and they responded that its an Apple issue. They complied with BlueTooth standards (obviously since it worked for several months) and now this new update is not working.
Can someone either from Apple or a knowledgeable person please help me out on this? All the other posts on this subject are just banter.

Sorry, but this is not true. UConnect is up-to-date on their Bluetooth standards and as the user said it was working under 1.1.4. Something Apple did with 2.0 broke his connection, so again why is this Chrysler's responsibility? And this has nothing to do with using bluetooth, etc. I do have to state it is working correctly on my car with the exception of the echo that everyone is reporting, which Apple also needs to fix in 2.0.1.
If you don't bother with bluetooth then you aren't keeping up with it and you know little about it, so why post useless information like the one here? If you don't know, don't waste everyone's time and provoke arguments. Dial it back a bit Tamara.

  • Is there an issue with Safari in Iphones and Ipads where it does not recognize option disabled="disabled" tag properly?

    Greetings everybody,
I have run into a peculiar problem with the Safari browser on mobile platforms (IPad, IPod, IPhone) which I hope I can find a solution for in this community.
I just launched a new website where I sell products with certain variations, for example please view this link: http://www.finerribbon.com/aegean-single-face-satin-ribbon.html
On this particular product, the product variants are supposed to work in such a way where:
If you select the value "1/8" from the "Choose Ribbon Width" field
    THEN
The only options active and available to choose from in the "Choose Roll Size" field should be: 500 Yds, 20 Yds & Sample Swatch
Now, if we browse to the above link in Safari using a desktop or a laptop, there are no problems at all, but if we browse to the above link using an IPhone or an Ipad, then we have a problem where all the options are available regardless of the values chosen, basically the above functonality does not work.
I was told that there an issue with Safari in Iphones and Ipads where it does not recognize option disabled="disabled" tag properly, is this true? Can anyone advise me if there is a solution to this problem? I would sincerely apperciate it.
Thank you very much for your time and help!

  • Oracle 10g RAC using ASM - Storage Issue

I’ve an issue related to Oracle 10g RAC.
I’ve 2 node cluster each being Dell 2850 Server with RHEL 4.0
I’ve EMC CX300 SAN storage with following partitions
    /orasoft     10 Gb          OCFS2 File system
    /oracrs          2 Gb          OCFS2 File system
    /orabackup      100 Gb          OCFS2 File system
The datafiles are on ASM which is not directly visible in OS.
I’ve common Oracle Home installed in /orasoft/db_1 which is shared by both nodes in cluster.
I’ve faced an issue recently related to EMC storage.
The /orasoft partition displays 1.4 Gb space available using df command.
With both nodes sharing the common Oracle Home (/orasoft/db_1), when ever I try to touch a file I get an error as No Space left on device. I’m unable to start any service with the same reason.
    Is this setup correct ??
Can anyone help me with this storage issue ??

Need a clarification here...what do you mean by "Storage System"...do you mean a server/node or the SAN storage system. If you are referring to a server/node's local storage, then it would NOT be possible for use by RAC, since the disk space has to be shared among the nodes.
Here is what you can do:
    - Create two partitions/devices (for example Disk_1 and Disk_2) in the SAN storage
    - Create a ASM disk group which would mirror Disk_1 to Disk_2.
Again, please note that the partitions have to be visible and be accessible read/write from both the nodes/servers.

    Thanks

    Hi,
If you create a new diskgroup you may be to add the same diskgroup to parameter file or spfile and which will be needing down time.
sugestion: Instead of creating new diskgroup you should to add disk to existing group.if you add asm disk to existing group your all problem will be solved and Oracle itself will be managing all.And than i am sure no need to add entry in the parameter or spfile like +db_create_file_dest=.....
