Storage locations as storage areas

We do not use Warehouse Management module. We are thinking of creating many storage locations (100+) to represent storage areas within a warehouse. This way, we will be able to locate stocks by referencing their SAP storage location against physically defined storage area. E.g. storage location A100 will have a corresponding physical location within the warehouse also termed as A100.
Like to know is this a viable solution. What will be the impact for other modules like MM? For instance during goods receipt/issue. How about maintenance wise? Will this solution create a maintenance headaches?

This seems to be a good idea. The possible impact I can think of are detailed below:
1) Having too many storage locations means that your material master has to be extended for each storage location it will be stored in. This has an impact on the database size and table (MARD) size with a possible impact on the performance.
2) Also, look at the impact while recording physical inventory in SAP.
3) Then there is an impact if your company decides to implement warehouse management in the future.

    At the time of usage decision we are posting the stock in "To Reserve stock" for that we have created seperate storage location ie for Sample material.
    we having two samples one is customer sample and other is in house sample both the samples we are posting in same storage location.
    Client want to differentiate these two samples, so we have created two storage types.
    Now My question is " can we transfer the samples in different storage types from Storage location.
    This is the QM and WM integration.

    I don't think you can transfer from storage location to storage type.
    If your purpose is to differentiate these two samples, then why not use different Sample types with different number ranges and thus identify them. You don't have to get into QM-WM integration just for that.
    If you want you may also set up 2 different physical sample locations: That would be ideal.

  • Transfer between storage location to storage location within same plant

    Dear Gurus,
    We r doing storage location to storage location transfer within same plant through purchase order.
    Due to excise requirement we have to raise excise invoice for the same for captive consumption purpose.
    Is it possible to make it One step procedure so that GR will take place at same time as GI the way it works for plant to planrt.
    In ECC 6.0 option is there for transfer between storage location. I configured but it is not working.
    Please check the same.

    The proceedure you are following is a bit wierd. But I think this is as per your business requirements.
    You can continue to follow the same proceedure as this may  not be possible through one step movement type.

  • Approval for storage location to storage location or plant to plant movemen

    Hi all,
    Our client's requirement is when goods transfer from the storage location to storage location with movement type 311 or plant to plant with movement type 301, untill & unless the authorised person at the receiving end approves it, the movement should not be happened?
    How to map this? Any release strategy?

    You can map the process in SAP using 2 step stock transfers.
    Storage location 1 313 movement type - it will be in transit until you do receiving in the receiving storage location 2 using movement type 315
    Similarly for plant to plant movement type 301 and 305.
    There is no customization available in SAP to do this with the single step stock transfers that you are currently using.

    I am doing STO from storage location to storage location in MIGO. While doing so is it possible to get excise tab in migo.   If there any settings for that please let me know..

    Excise will be levied only if the material moves from a plant to another plant or a depot.
    If u try to move a material from a storage location to another within a plant  then there will not be any excise involvement.
    Check with ur finance guys .
    Also if u r trying to move ur material to a storage location outside ur plant, then  the same has to created as a plant or a depot and then STO has to be done.
    Basically for India excise comes to paly a role when the material leaves the premises only.
    Check and revert .

    movement type       311.
    posting date            as u wish( from to date).

    In 4.6 C version you will not get the Storage location to storage location Stock transfer option.
    This is applicable to the ECC version only.
    In 4.6C version you can adapt the Transfer posting from Storage loc to Storage loc using the Movement type 311,
    but if you need the delivery type, Shipping data for Stock transfer b/w Storage loc to Storage location it is not possible in 4.6 C version. It is only avalibla in ECC versions.

    Hi Experts ,
    Here is the complete scenario .....
    <b>W1</b> -- Warehouse1 which has Supplies and Pharma
    <b>W2</b> -- Warehouse 2 which has Supplies and Equipments
    <b>W3</b> -- Warehouse 3 has Pharma only
    <b>W1 and W3 are in one Physical structure with partition
    W2 is across the road...</b>
    1. Supplies move from W2 to W1 when supplies go low in warehouse 1 (W1) this is <b>done almost daily</b> .
    2. Supplies from W1 are moved to W2 if there is any overflow or supplies come in excess which happens <b>few times a week</b>.
    3. We have  <b>3 shipment points</b> where they perform shipping and receiving each for W1,W2 and W3.
    4. we have 6 staging spots for staging of international shipments on W1
       and we have about 10 staging spots in W2 ....We need to know the exat location of where the shipping pallet is located for compliance purpose (Inspection )
    5. Most of the receiving is done in <b>W1 (about 85 %) </b>where it is inspected , arranged and then put away is done accordingly ....
         If the shipment contains only equipments or Beds then its received  in W2.
    6. When there is an<b> overflow of Pharma in W1</b> then some of the supplies in W1 are removed and put in W2 so that they get space for Pharma storage .....
    7.  Warehouse 3 (W3) has high value  Pharma, basically used for domestic shipments (in US) or the pharma products which dont have space in W1.
    8..  Moving of Pharma products for storage  from <b>W3 to W1  happens rarely</b>;
    9.  Moving from W1 to W3 happens <b>almost daily</b> ..cause when ever the products get over in W3 then they move it from W1.
    10.  Picking for international shipments takes place from W3 and W1 and are shipped from W1 in big Pallets.
    11.  When they receive the product in Big pallets in W1 some pharma products go to W1 and some in W3 , depending on the value .
    12.   Some times the domestic Shipments are in  large quantity so its taken  from W3 to W1 and staged for shipment in W1.
    13.  Domestic (within US) shipments is done through Fed Ex ....which is <b>done daily ....</b>
    My Question is will it be wise to
    <b>OPTION 1:</b>make these 3 warehouses into <b>3 storage locations.</b>..(1 plant >3storage locations>1 warehouse )or
    <b>OPTION 2:</b> is it wise to make these 3 warehouses into <b>3 storage types ......</b>  (1plant --->1 storage location --->1 warehouse -
    >3 storage types -->1 section under each storage type )
    Will there be any problem to define <b>shipping point,carry physical inventory,stock transfers and work with RF devices</b> in future if i choose<b> option 2 </b>
    Your Advise is precious to me ....Please do let me know the <b>pros and cons</b> .....for options ..above ....

    Hello Albert,
    It's always suggested to have very simple organization structure so we can avoid extra transaction.
    Now in your case, if you define three Plant/SLoc/warehouse then you are going to end up with more and more transactions at inventory level and followed by warehouse transactions.
    I suggest to have one Sloc and one warehouse for this kind of organization and maintain different storage type for each physical location. This will reduce the IM level transactions. Now when moving material from one facility to another facility you can maintain one more storage type for the Transport Equipement (i.e. Cart/Forklift etc) so when you move from W1 to W2 at that time you can do bin to bin transfer.
    Also you want facility for overflow in one facility so this can be achieved with allowing two storage type for putaway.
    for different kind of Supplies and pharma, I am sure you will plan different material type for them so that will help to get reports for each category.

    There is no such report exists in SAP.
    313 & 315 documents are no where linked up with each other. check Table MSEG and Table MKPF if required.
    when we create the transfer posting it creates 2 document lines.
    1. One line to reduce the stock from issuing Storage Location
    2. Second line to put the stock in-transit of destination Storage Location.
    And to move stock from one storage location to another storage location one can use any of the transfer posting document & SAP will allow you to post 315 document until stock in transit qty gets exausts.system allow to place the stock in reference to already executed TR document also.
    You can get quantitative Stock in Transit data in Report MB52 under column Transit/Transter wherein stock in transit qty will reflect against receiving storage location or in table MARD
    hope this will clear your doubts.

  • KANBAN Storage location to storage location posting

    Hi all,
    I am doing KANBAN process for stock transfer from one storage location to another storage location in same plant.
    It  is working fine manually i.e whenever I change EMPTY to FULL the replishment is happening that is stock is posting one stores to another stores.
    Then When I consume the stock after transferring system is not doing replishment automatically
    In simple way when ever stock falls/empty automatically system has to post into another storage location with kanban.
    I donu2019t want to go and change the status empty to Full system only have to check the status ans have to post stock and status have to change automatically. we don't any manual interruption for changing the status. because we have thousands of materials so it is difficult
    If any please suggest meu2026..

    Ravi, this is all that Kanban is about; a simple visual/manual procedure that is used to signal the fact that a container is now EMPTY.
    The automation is in the background transparent processing of the respective stock movements, to make the whole process LEAN.
    There's one way to trigger replenishment without changing status, and this is by using Quantity Signal type of Kanban. Nevertheless, in such a type you need to eport to the system the quantity change (decrease, usage), so the system knows the kanban actual quantity at any time. I'm not sure that it is easier to implement; on the contrary.
    To summerize; Kanban is first of all a management concept, not an IT tool. If you are missing the concept, I would not go for it just as an IT driven solution.

    I;'ve used it for the following:
    Standard inbound deliveries to be received in storage location 1000. After finishing the TO in WM, the material is transferred from SLOC 1000 to 1010. In the sales orders, 1010 is taken into account and 1000 is disregarded. I.e. stock in 1000 is not seen as available.
    In this case available stock is indeed available, also in WM.

  • Material Transfer from Storage Location 2 Storage loc

    Here Client want to transfer Material from 1 loc to another. Std T Code is MB1B with Mov Type 309. But here we have to enter material, qty,& batch no.But client's requirement is that he dont want  to enter all these things.He want to select the material,batches collectively sothat seperate entry should be minimised. Is there any functionality through which we can transfer the selected materials?

    First of all 309 movement is ussed for Material to material transfer
    like our friend said for storage loc to storage loc. you need to use 311
    Now when you go to MB1B then goto Edit in that you can see default value
    enter your default value , so after that you need to choose only material and batch

    I am using stock transport orders at storage location level, and it works fine, we have a customizing point to configure shipping point at storage location level.
    My doubt is if we can use also shipping point det. at storage location level for creating Deliveries for Subcontracting process in ME2O.
    It works only If I customize the shipping point det. at plant level, not considering the customizing at storage location level.
