Storage on macbook pro

When looking at the storage on "about this MAC" it states 9.94 GB devoted to back-up. What is being backed up and where is it stored?

  • Why Apple store can't Upgrade the storage for Macbook Pro Retina after sale?

    Hello everyone
I am disappointed from apple store .
One month ago i bought the new MacBook Pro Retina with storage 256 GB and now i would like to upgrade the storage to 768 GB as mentioned in there website where you can configure the storage higher, but unfortunately i went to apple store to upgrade, but they refused and they said we only upgrade within the order in the beggining before you buy it !!!!!!!!
even if i go to normal shop they will do the upgrade but i will lose my waranty .
    Is there any advice ?
    Thanks

No one seems to be hearing what Big Q is saying.
He can pair his iPhone to his Macbook, but cannot CONNECT. He's NOT asking for alternative solutions, like Wi Fi.
I am able to both pair and connect my one one Macbook to my other one, but I can only pair but not connect my iPhone or iPad to either Macbook. So I have the same problem. But I can pair and connect my Macbooks to other Bluetooth devices, like my ancient Nokia cellfone, or my Bluetooth HP printer.
It's irrelavent that I can instead use a direct USB cable or Wi Fi between my Macbooks and my iPhone/iPad - why can't I use Bluetooth? If Apple does not allow Bluetooth between it's Macbooks and other Mac devices, then why have Bluetooth at all? Does my iPhone have Bluetooth only so that I can pair and connect to my my non Apple mobile handsfree car kit, or communicate easily with the dreaded Apple enemy Samsung, or what?
Make no mistake , I am a diehard Apple fan, but this Bluetooth non compatibility issue appears shortsighted and seemingly pointless. Why does Apple not just say why they created the non compatibility, or have a message on the Bluetooth setup programme which simply and clearly says "don't bother wasting hours of your time trying to pair and connect your iPhone to your Macbook, because we don't allow that anymore, reason being that............"?
As a first time user of this Forum I am surprised at the intolerant and highhanded tone of some of the replies  to what is a legitimate question, that is obviously plagueing many, many other Apple users.

  • Install storage in MacBook Pro?

Hi, I have the following specs. It came with a 200 Gb drive. I'd like to know how much storage space I can put into this computer. I need more space for video files. I buy from this site www.komplett.ie. Can someone direct me to the correct hard drive? Maybe 500 Gb to 1 TB of storage if possible.
    Thanks!

Right now the largest drive you can install is 500 gb.

You probably do better using a large external drive.

  • Strategy for iLife storage with Macbook Pro

My iMac recently died and I just ordered a new Macbook Pro.  It only has 256GB of internal storage and I would rather not fill that up with my iPhoto, iMovie, iTunes libraries among other things.  So I will definitely have some form of external storage attached to this while at my desk workstation.  My question revolves around the ability to use the iLife products in basically an offline mode while the Macbook Pro is with me at work or at the office.  I realize the answer to iTunes is to do a Match type of service where everything can be streamed.  But for the others, if I want to work with photos or movies while travelling (not necessarily edit/view existing ones that are the home storage) is this possible?
If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them before I make any additional purchases.
    Thank you.
    Joe

will using an external burner be better quality?
Ext. Burners tolerate burning multiple copies with fewer read / write errors better than the stock internal S-Drive that come built into many mac laptops. Stock drives heat up faster than external burners do for the most part. So the answer is, it's very possible you will get slightly better results with an external burner as opposed to an internal laptop S-Drive when burning back to back copies.
I recommend using Verbatim Dvd-r media and burning from a disc image at 4x or slower for best results.

  • How do i delete others to free up storage on macbook pro

how do i delete "others" to free up storage on my macbook pro?

Erase the hard drive and reinstall OS X:
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • 1TB flash storage on MacBook pro 2014

    Hello everyone,
I'm interested in the latest MacBook pro 2014, and planning to get one.
According to the spec on the website, it says MacBook pro 15" could be configured to 1TB flash storage.
Does anybody know what is the brand of the flash storage? Samsung or SanDisk? Or both?
Is its component size same as M.2 2280 or 2260 PCIe SSD?
Can we replace it by our own? I mean, can we buy a M.2 2280 or 2260 PCIe SSD to replace it if it fit?

You then may be risking voiding the warranty.

  • How to reduce size of other space bar of flash storage on Macbook Pro?

    Hi,
I am a new customer to the Macbook Pro world. While it is a great computer I have noticed that my storage space is becoming limited. Of 250GB flash storage, 137GB of this is classified as 'Other'. Can someone please advise on what this consists of and how I can reduce this bar, i.e. if there is useless or unused data stored here.
    Kind Regards,
    Kyle.

The title is rather unfortunate and creates unnecessary problems.  There is much important information in that category, the OSX being one item.  Please read this for a full understanding:

  • A great solution to external storage for MacBook Pro Retina 13'?

    Hi.
I'm looking for a good external storage (HDD) for my 128GB MacBook Pro Retina 13-inch.
128GB is way to low to storage music and films on etc.
    Any great solutions for storage?

I've had good luck with LaCie External Hard Drives.

  • Is the "flash" storage in Macbook Pros and Airs upgradable?

I just watched an OWC video on upgrading SSD on mid 2012 Macbook Pro, is that what they consider "Flash" storage? They only say SSD, so I'm just wondering if I buy 128GB Macbook or Air can I increase it later or is it "built in" and not upgradable?

SSD = flash memory storage. There are no Apple-supported upgrades for the internal SSD/flash storage in the MacBooks, partly because Apple uses a special connector. OWC has created replacement MacBook SSD/flash drives of their own initiative, and they do work. But they are only available for some models.
Due to the special Apple design of the flash storage you will not find many options for upgrading. So far only OWC has gone to the trouble of trying to match the Apple specs.
It is still best to order a MacBook with the amount of storage you need, if available. If you do need an upgrade later, whether you will be able to will depend on whether OWC offers one for the model you have, and there is no guarantee of that. And any such upgrade will not be supported by Apple. But OWC is a good company and I have bought many products from them.

  • What type of files are in "Other" under "System Information Storage" on MacBook Pro?

    Hi happy folks,
I need to clear up space on my MacBook Pro. When I open System Information and click on Storage, it says that 200G of my 250G are taken up by "Other." Not photos, not movies, not apps. I don't have that many documents. What constitutes this massive Other and how can I clear off some of this space?
    Thanks!

  • Create more storage on macbook pro

how do i open up more storage space on my macbook air

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • Photos taking up too much storage on Macbook Pro

This is quite frustrating. Photos and Movies are taking up quite a bit of my storage on my Macbook and not sure how to get rid of them. They are not saved on my Macbook through iPhoto so not sure how to delete all of these? My iPhone photo stream is connected but its not holding 44GB worth of photos thats for sure! I've run OmniSweep but that hasn't been able to identify the location of all these. Just really want to know how to wipe them as I'm unable to save other files on my mac or through Dropbox.
    Thanks
    Jon

Did you look in your home folder>pictures? As I suspect you know, that is where the iPhoto libraries are located. I do not know if other photos are stored there.
