Storage Reports aren't finding known file types

I have a Windows Server 2008R2 file server and I've configured a "Files by File Group" report to find audio/music and image files on a specific drive.  The report isn't finding all of the WMA and JPEG/JPG files on the drive.  I manually
ran a search for the WMAs and came up with 3,963 WMA files (16GB), whereas the Storage Report Manager report only showed one file.  I'm trying to determine why the report isn't finding these (and possibly) file types.
Any thoughts?

Hi,
Currently I cannot help testing this behavior. I assume you are using FSRM for doing this job. Please check if .WMA and .JPG (or JPEG) is added in "audio/music and image files" groups. There should be a button to add file type to a group.

  • Find Specific File Type Group in Specific Folder

    Hi, I dont know how to find a specific group of files (i.e. all movies, all music etc) in one specific folder (and its sub folders) on Snowleopard.
    I do know how to find a single file type (i.e. .mov, .mp3)
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi,
    And, Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    In the search box, type
    kind:
    (that's "kind" followed by a colon) followed by either
    movie
    image
    or
    music
    I just tested it myself (I've never actually used it!) and it works a treat.

  • SQL query/report for "count of specific file type"?

    I figured this would be a good first post, as I have found every question I have had to date by browsing the forums, but I am stumped with this one. I recently expressed some concern to HR regarding the use of...lets call it "unauthorized content"
    on our network. Getting little to no response, I would like to produce a report containing a total count based on specific file type. For example, how many .mp3 files are stored on company equipment, how many torrent files (sadly, this is true), etc.
    Having very basic knowledge of SQL, I am puzzled where to start. I am currently using SCCM SP3 and SQL 2008 R2 with both basic reporting and SSRS enabled on the site.

    You'll first need to inventory those file types then here's some reports for you.
    Get the pstreports from my skydrive, import them and you can cange the file type to mp3 or whatever you need. I monitor mp3 files too.

  • How to find the file type without the file extension using indesign javascript (.jsx)

    hi,
    How to identify the file type (eg: InDesign or Quark) without knowing their file type. How can we find what kind of file is that??? without their extension like ('.indd','.qxd') before import to the document...

    Hi subha_oviya,
    Take a look at the file filtering section in the InDesign CS3 sample script ImageCatalog.jsx to see how to look for file types. I'm assuming that you're using InDesign CS3, and that you're using the Mac OS--you didn't say.
    Thanks,

  • List files in Finder by file type (not just all in alphabetical order)

    Hello,
    Is there a way to list the files in Finder by type.
    By default all files and folders are listed in alphabetical order.
    I, however, would like to list the subjects by type (i.e. all folders first, then single files etc.)
    Thanks in advance...
    Power Mac 2 x 2.0 GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Is there a way to list the files in Finder by type.
    Sorry, I don't have my 10.3 booted at the moment, but in 10.4 in List View you would normally have a Kind column at the far right. If you click on the top of this it may sort the way you want. Also the Kind column can be moved to the left if you want.

  • Corrupt file type icons in finder

    Hi there,
    I discovered a problem with small icons in Finder and it's driving me insane that I can't figure out how it happened and how to remedy it. Hope anyone here can help!
    The symptoms:
    The problem concerns .mkv and .srt files. In the list or column view in Finder, these file types have exec icons instead of the regular VLC icons. However, when I change to icon or cover flow view, the correct VLC icons are shown. Also in quick look the correct icons are shown. So, the problem only seems to concern small icons, but not large ones.
    I tried to change the icon via Command+I. The preview icons are correct, only in the tool bar the incorrect small exec is shown. However, when I drag-drop the small exec icon from the bar to the large item, also small exec icon in Finder changes to the correct VLC icons. But only for this particular file and for all files of that type. Also when I download a new .srt or .mkv file the small icons are again exec images. SOO weird!
    What scares me a little is that I did a another clean install of Yosemite after I discovered this. And nothing changed! What is happening here? I hope someone can help!
    Potential cause:
    The problem wasn't there after I updated to Yosemite. I did a clean install and everything was fine. However, at one point I ran the OS X version of Gmaptool  (a .img merge app for Garmin navigation maps). The app is only a command line and the file also has an exec icon. After I ran this command line, the problem occurred. Does anyone know how this could have happened?
    Thanks for your help! It's driving me insane!

    Perhaps it's a good idea to upload a few screenshots
    As you can see in the first three pictures, only small icons show the exec icon. Large ones are the correct VLC icons. The last two show the Info windows. In the first one, you can see the small exec icon in the tool bar. It changed after I dropped this exec icon on the icon field (see second Info picture). However, this only changed the small icon for this particular file, not for all .srt files.
    Is there some weird preference causing this? I also found a few system files now have exec icon (see picture below). I think that wasn't the case before. How can I change it? Can I reset the small icons somehow? Would it help to securely erase the hard drive? I have nothing on the drive anyways, so that would be an easy option for me.
    Thanks!

  • Applescript to change file type using folder action

    Just found out my Adobe Acrobat is saving PDFs with the filetype "FDP" and creator "ORAC" which is obviously the reverse of what they should be.
    There doesn't appear to be a fix for this, and for me it's a problem because when I copy these PDFs onto our Xinet WebNative asset management server the files aren't recognised as PDFs, so don't display a preview in the web page.
    So, I wanted to use a folder action that will set the Creator and Type to the PDFs whenever they are put into a folder on the server.
    Unfurtunately, although I can get this to work when using a script in the form of an application (so I drop PDFs onto it, I cannot get it to work as a folder action. It doesn't set the creator and type even though the same commands in a application script do work.
    *This is the code to my script which works fine as an application:*
    ====================
    property FileType : ""
    property CreatorType : ""
    on open theFiles
    tell application "Finder"
    activate
    set FileType to "PDF "
    set CreatorType to "CARO"
    repeat with eachFile in theFiles
    set the file type of eachFile to FileType
    set the creator type of eachFile to CreatorType
    end repeat
    end tell
    end open
    ===================
    *and this is what I'm trying to use for a folder action:*
    ===================
    on adding folder items to my_folder after receiving the_files
    set pdfs to {"pdf"}
    repeat with i from 1 to number of items in the_files
    tell application "Finder"
    set this_file to (item i of the_files)
    set the file_path to the quoted form of the POSIX path of this_file
    --set the file_path2 to the quoted form of file_path --can combine if file_path isn't needed
    set this_fileType to name extension of (info for this_file)
    end tell
    if this_fileType is in pdfs then
    tell application "Finder"
    activate
    set FileType to "PDF "
    set CreatorType to "CARO"
    end tell
    end if
    end repeat
    end adding folder items to
    ==================
    I know it processes the file but it doesn't actually change the creator type.
    *If only Apple would fix this bug in the first place!*

    Your folder action script isn't using the same commands, and doesn't do anything about setting file types or creator codes at all. Something like this should do the trick:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    font-weight: normal;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFEE80;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    on adding folder items to my_folder after receiving the_files
    set pdfs to {"pdf"}
    repeat with each_file in the_files
    set this_fileType to name extension of (info for each_file)
    if this_fileType is in pdfs then
    tell application "Finder"
    set file type of each_file to "PDF "
    set creator type of each_file to "CARO"
    end tell
    end if
    end repeat
    end adding folder items to
    </pre>
    ... and by the way, Apple doesn't have anything to do with the file types, creator codes, or other application specific settings that an Adobe application sets for itself.

  • How can I disable the automatic hiding of known file attachments, and why are always about 10 internet pages where I have to download something if i use firefo

    How can I disable the automatic hiding of known file attachments, and why are always about 10 internet pages where I have to download something when I use mozila firefox?
    Windows Computer

    1) If you are talking about the file names on the computer, there is a
    setting to turn off known file types. Open your file browser. Then
    just under the location bar, press '''Tools,''' then '''Folder Options.'''
    A new window will open. Select '''View.''' Look for
    '''Hide Extensions For Known File Types.'''
    2) Never NEVER '''NEVER''' download anything unless you know what
    it is. If a web site claims it needs to download something, what is it?
    It could be something like the flash player, '''or a virus ! !'''

  • File type changing during "Save As" - Help!

    Good Morning!  I have a set of tif files converted from RAW that I'm resizing for an order for a client and every time I do a "Save As", the file gets changes to an extension of $CB, then Adobe and nothing else will recognize it.
    The history;
    Converted RAW to Tif in Bridge CS3
    Opened in PSCS3 extended - cropped to size - do the Save As, still shows the file as a Tif in file type - reopened the original to make another size and noticed that file I just created is not there.  No, I didn't save the file with the same name, thus Save As.
    My normal file naming, I just add a designated letter at the end of my file name to indicate the finished size ie.. legion post 576_001D.tif (D = 8 x 10)  The original file would be    legion post 576_013.tif.  I did this on 3 different computers, using PS 7.01, CS2, CS3 and CS4, all the same results.
    Also, I can view the original tif in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer - as I normally am able to, however, this new one comes up with the error and unrecognizable file.
    Now I'm wondering did the RAW conversion did something.
    Help, I need to get these off to my printing service!
    thanks,
    Jan

    Never mind!  Found the problem!
    For some reason, there was a check on the “Hide Extensions for Known file Types”.
    I had to Go to Tools – Folder Options – View and uncheck “Hide Extensions for Known file Types”.  Would have never guessed that one!
    You know one of those places your always changing things in!!!!! NOT!
    Anyway, it works!

  • 'File type' missing on Filter

    I cannot find the file type section on filter and on some videos I've seen it.  Can someone please help?
    Thank you

    Does the folder you are viewing in Bridge contain more than one file type or only a single file type?  I think File Type only appears in the filter list when the folder(s) being viewed include multiple file types.  For example, if the folder you're viewing in Bridge contains only jpeg files or only any other single file type, then File Type will not be shown in the filter list.

  • Import from URL with out knowing the file types

    Hello Gurus,
    I am struck in a strange situation, We need to import files through URL , they may be tiff, pdf, word,excel ...
    and you dont know the file type until you open the URL,
    So i used both ORDIMAGE and ORDDOC for importing, if the import fails in the ORDIMAGE process due to data curropt error , it goes to ORDDOC and the error is taking way too much time to appear.
    1) Is there any way we can find the file type when we open the URL to check if it is a DOC file or Image File.
    2) Is there any way to reduce the time taken to show up the error.
    Thank you

    In Your case, you may need finer control that what import provides.
    You can also use the uri types to upload the image and extract the mime type from the response. You can do the same for orddoc. orddoc may take a long time to parse since the blob must be scanned.
    Larry
    create table uri_imgupload(item_id number primary key, pict ordsys.ordimage);
    create or replace procedure upload_uri_image(prikey_id number, url varchar2 )

  • Applescript help - print specific file type

    I keep getting error messages when trying to get this script to print only the PDFs in my Distiller "Out" folder:
    on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving added_items
    tell application "Finder"
    if file type is "PDF" then
    print
    end if
    end tell
    end adding folder items to
    If I leave out the "if/then…PDF" part it works fine, but Distiller spits out a log file that it keeps trying to print.
    I'm no Applescript genius (obviously), but I am stumped on the logic here. Any ideas?

    Hi, George -
    ...discovered that the file type is 4 characters...
    Expanding on that a bit -
    In OS 9, all File Type and Creator codes are exactly four characters long. These characters can include 'special' characters, such as spaces as well as others; and case (upper case or lower case) is important.
    In the case of PDF's, the Type code is PDF  - note that the final character is a space.

  • QuickTime crashes at startup and on File Types tab

    I have a client who has been trying to install iTunes on Windows XP SP3 32-bit.  The iTunes installation would fail every time towards the end and rollback.  I tracked down Quicktime as the culprit.  Quicktime would crash whenever I tried to launch the player.  When I tried to uninstall the Quicktime already on the system, that uninstall would fail as well.  I used the Windows Installer cleanup tool to remove QuickTime and followed instructions here for removing the leftover QT files from the Program Files and Windows System folders.
    I was able to install the latest version of QT, but it then had the same issues, crash when bringing up the player and unable to uninstall again.  I then used Revo Uninstaller which was able to remove QT and all the files and file associations.  After that thorough cleanup, I installed QT again, but with the same results.  I did notice a few things.
    I can bring up the QT control panel and switch to any of the tabs except "File Types".  It crashes when I try to select that tab.  The last time I did the install at the final dialog of the installtion it has a button to allow you to set the file types.  When I pushed that button, the installtion did not crash, but you could hear the computer's HD working very hard and nothing ever happened even after 7-8 minutes.  I was able to click the finish button on the installation and the install finished, but I was left with the same crashing problem and inability to uninstall.
    The computer is clean of any malware and spyware and I've tried disabling the AV temporarily while doing these installs/uninstalls, but that's no help.
    He really wants to get iTunes installed but we can't get past this QT issue.

    many thanks.
    I think we'd better see if some other application (other than QuickTime itself) has dropped old QuickTime componentry in the system files on the PC. (If there's a version mismatch between the old componentry and the "QuickTime proper" componentry, that can create similar-looking symptoms, including uninstall errors.)
    So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
    First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
    Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
    What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)
