Storage Tek 6140 to Apple Mac OS-X

Is it possible to map a LUN on StroageTek 6140 FC SAN directly to Apple Mac OS-X 10 operating system?
Thanks
RodP.

Do you have any tips / hints on setting this up?Sure I have a few tips on getting the Mac's to play nicely especially when there are fibre channel switch's invovled.
1.I've noticed on some of the XServ's using LSI cards they can't seem to handle dual path's to the SAN. In my case one my of the hosts has a single dual ported HBA , which doesn't like to be dual-pathed to different switch's.
If your going to be connecting it via a Fabric and want the dual-path's , either get two seperate HBA's or replace the LSI card that Apple ship's with something from Qlogic , that has decent driver support.
If your going to be plugging the hosts directly into the back of the 6140 , then you won't have to many issue's just remember to use your host groups to isolate the LUN's to the OS X host only.
OS version's don't have any issues as mentioned I'm running a combo of 10.4.11 through to 10.5 server and they have no issues.
Let me know if you need anymore info

I would say if the first event can be alarming also after the second event.

    Hi.
    1. Disk should be work normal. In case failure - should be replaced by hotspare automaticaly.
    2. You can't clear this alarm. You cant' install base FW on this disk. ( CAM can't do downgrade FW).
For clear alarm you can install latest CAM + patches and Install Baseline FW on Array ( Arrays).
I don't remember from CAM 6.6 or 6.7 CAM don't set alarm in case disk firmware mismatch.
    3. CAM don't have own password database. It use system password database. Change password for user on system where CAM is installed.
    ( In case Solaris - passwd <username>

  • Important Configuration/Log Files for Storage Tek

    Hi,
I have 6140 Storage Arrays, in the same ref. I would like to know more about command line details.
    1. Important Configuration files
    2. Important Log Files
    3. Event Messages file
    4. Important utilities like sscs, service, suppport and their default path.
    5. Solaris FC constroller configuration files.
Please suggest in case I can get this details from any doc, as I already referred Sun Storage Tek 6140 Getting Started Guide for the same but not found much details.

I figured out what my problem was here. The Windows user that the portal processes run as is the user who writes the log files. In this case, this user is a local user to the portal server and not a Windows domain user. This means that the user does not have access to write to the shared drive.
We had two options as to what we could do here. The first would be to change the user that's running the portal to a user that could write to that shared drive. The second option would be to have the portal write the log files locally on the portal server and then have a script run as a domain user on that server sometime in the day and copy the files to the shared drive. We are going with the second option.

  • Problem in the storage section of " about that mac "

    Hello everyone,
I recently bought a new 2014 Mac book pro retina 13 inch and I'm really happy with it even if I think that OSX Yosemite have some bugs ( usually fluidity ) .
But I have a problem in the storage section of  "about that mac", the problem is that it says everywhere that i have used 66 Go of the storage but in that section it says that I have 77 Go of applications ( more than 60 go more ). So I wanted to know if it was hiding a bigger problem or if it was a basic OS problem without any importance.
I'm looking forward hearing from you !
    Thank You

  • Installing icloud on an 2010 Apple Mac

First of all, be patient with me I am 69 years old. I want to use icloud on my apple mac pro, but it is from 2010. When I look at System preferences, icloud is not shown, only Mobile Me, which is obsolete.  I can't figureout how to sync it with my iPad, which has icloud already up and running. HELP?? Please?

You must upgrade you computer to 10.7.2 or later. Your computer can be upgraded to Mavericks.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
You have provided very little information, so I'm going to also suggest considering installing more RAM in your computer:
    Maximum Memory
    8.0 GB
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
Before embarking on this trek I also highly recommend that you make a backup of your current system in the event things go wrong, which they can.
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
         drive being backed up.
    3. Time Machine requires a backup drive that is at least double the
capacity of the drive(s) it backs up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
      1. Cool Drives
      2. OWC
      3. WiebeTech
      4. Firewire Direct
      5. California Drives
      6. NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

    Uh uh, I see!
Also it seems I can use my time machine backup:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migration_Assistant_(Apple)
together with Migration Assistant. This would work. Thanks
Now I need to figure out the Windows part. I need a full backup of Windows as well, with all the programs. In particular I need to be sure I can maintain the graphic card drivers.
You don't want to know how long took for me to find out how the **** I could update my graphic card drivers in Windows on my Macbook pro. Unfortunately there was a lot of misleading propaganda from Apple about bootcamp, saying that the new intel processor would have worked fine with Windows. Sad that everything was a lie. When installing Windows with bootcamp the graphic card program was unable to find and install the graphic card drivers update . Took me 2 weeks reading through thousands of angry posts of disappointed costumers to find out how to do that. I do not want to reapeat this dreadful experience.
After one year and a half with my Macbook pro I have a system I am TERRIFIED to touch. It is very very fragile, and any little change can destroy everything. It barely works. that's why I am so scared to re-install the OS

  • New to Apple/Mac

Hello, I'm new to the Apple/Mac family. I've just acquired a Power Mac G4, 733mgz, 256 ram, 40gb HD with OS X 10.5. Is this going to be a viable alternative to my PC?
I'm running Windows XP on a 1.6ghz with 512ram and an 80gb hd.
I also have questions about the USB ports, should I look into additional USB card? If I want to upgrade the HD, do I have to stick with only Apple products?
How about wireless internet, do I need to install the airport card? Currently I have a small antenna plugged into a USB port on my PC and it accesses my ATT U-Verse gateway. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Hi angwchris, and a warm welcome to the forums & Macdom!
I've just acquired a Power Mac G4, 733mgz, 256 ram, 40gb HD with OS X 10.5. Is this going to be a viable alternative to my PC?
It'll be much slower, but it needs way more RAM, to see what'll be best for your exact Mac do this...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac.
Then click on More Info>Hardware and report this upto *but not including the Serial#*...
    Hardware Overview:
Machine Name: Power Mac G5 Quad
    Machine Model: PowerMac11,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (1.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 4
    CPU Speed: 2.5 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 10 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.25 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.7f1
I also have questions about the USB ports, should I look into additional USB card?
Quite likely, but waiting for your specs.
If I want to upgrade the HD, do I have to stick with only Apple products?
Nope, but do you have the Install Disc(s) for 10.5?
How about wireless internet, do I need to install the airport card?
Waiting for specs, but there are options besides an Airport card.

  • How to connect and use Stor.E TV with Apple Mac

    Hi,
I just bought the Stor.E tv but I use Apple mac.
Is there a program that I can download or just some way I can connect my Stor.E to my computer?
    Right now it's locked.
    Thank you :)

    Hi
Im not quite sure if you could use this since there is no special software for MAC OS leopard.
But the TOSHIBA StorE TV supports an common USB port and can be connected to the mac/notebook using the common USB plug an play cable
Maybe the MAC will recognize this external USB device automatically and you will not need to install any software or drivers

  • I have a Apple Mac desktop and recently was unable to access any YouTube, movies, videos, etc because a "Blocked Plug-in" message comes up with no error message. It asks to upload Abode Reader, but upon completion of this the message is the same.

I have a Apple Mac desktop and recently can no longer access Youtube, videos, movies, etc because I get a message reading "Blocked Plug-in". There's no error message but it does say to upload Abode Flash Player and the problem will be solved. I do this but it doesn't fix the problem. What am I doing wrong?

if you already downloaded the adobe flash player onto your mac and still getting that message that means you need to finish the installation of the flash player
you do this by opening a finder window and going to your downloads, find the flash player in here and then double click on it and follow the prompts to complete the installation.
after this is completed you will need to completely quit out of the web browser you're using then reopen it for the change to take affect and your issue should be resolved. if it's not you need to contact adobe their number is 800 642-3623.

I keep this as a copy and paste. It's the same process for Mac as it is for a PC. Read it over and see what you think. Post back if you have questions.
The following was copied from this thread. This is essentially what you want to accomplish.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your Mac and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on iTunes / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Read this thread and the support links as well. There are apps that you can purchase that will allow you to transfer photos from the iPad to your PC. Look at Photo Transfer App in the App store and you can search for others as well.

Can anyone recommend an external storage device to supplement my mac book air?  I already have a time capsule but want the new device to replicate the data on that so ideally would like a device that i can connect to the time capsule through a cable.

    Hi CJR
I'm not sure how Time Capsule can be replicated onto your external drive but there is a USB port on the back of TC that can be hooked up to any recent external drive.
Another thing to think about , besides a Time Capsule failure, is the theft of your Time Capsule, so it might be a good idea to consider separating any redundant back-up from your Time Capsule or both my be stolen.
TC will back up until full and then begin deleting the oldest back-ups.  Mine is a 2TB Time capsule.
My back-up plan is as follows:
    1.  Macbook Air back-up on Time Capsule though Time Machine backs up everything - I think it's about every 30 min or so.
    2.  Contacts, reminders, appointments, notes, email are backed up through iCloud.
    3.  iTunes and non-itunes purchased music is on iMatch (and no need to back-up) and any non-iTunes music is backed up on an HP external drive (in case Time Capsule dies)
    4.  Photos are on my MacBook Air and are backed up on my HP external drive.
    5.  Office documents (Excel, Powerpoint, Access etc) are stored in a Skydrive app (like iCloud) and Skydrive syncs these docuemnts with the MS  cloud and my old PC and does not alter their native format like storing in iCloud would do.
    Cheers
