StorE Alu2 HDD with many bad sectors, How to claim warranty

My external StorE ALU2 hdd contains of many bad sectors.
This is my backup disc which is always in a safe.
How can I determine if I still have warranty and what is the procedure to claim warranty?
Thanks for your prompt reply

There are to many to be repaired.
The drive comes to a complete stop when certain files are accessed.
I'm lucky that I always have 2 backup drives, just for this purposes.
I will contact Toshiba in the Netherlands
No online procedure. Western Digital had a perfect service, where they ship a new disk, and in the same box you can return the broken disk.
In case you do not return the disk, they charge your creditcard for a certain amount.
Thanks

  • Toshiba DT01ACA050 too many bad sectors on first 5 months

    Hi Good day,
I bought a toshiba internal drive 500gb(sealed) from my friend but after weird behavior on my pc I found out that it has too many bad sectors detected by HD tune pro and HDsentinel. He insisted that the drive is in good condition because it was
sealed thus he don't cover it for personal warranty and further instructed that I must be the one to RMA it but dont know how I live in the Philippines and don't have experience rma'ing a hard drive yet. Also it's weird coz it shows a different product model (Hitachi) instead of Toshiba DT model as seen on my hard drive cover.

  • [SOLVED] Completly format a second HDD, and mark bad sectors.

    Hi, all!
I couldn't see a more appropriate place to post this, as it didn't seem right to put it in 'Kernel/ Hardware'. My apologies if it is in the wrong place.
I have a second hard disk drive in my PC and when I use it, it occasionally gives 'bad sector' errors. The hard drive is not currently used, but until I buy a replacement, I was wondering whether it is possible to do a 'deep' format of the disk, which would mark bad sectors. These sectors could then be ignored by future installations.
    Is this possible?
Would I have to do it as part of normal partitioning, ie, when setting-up ext4 partitions, etc?
I'd prefer to mark the sectors at a deeper evel, so I don't have to think about it when I do future installs on that disk.
    Any help/ advice appreciated.
    Chris.

If the disk you are planning to use already has bad sectors visible to the user then you better get rid of it. Modern hard disks automatically reallocate bad sectors when they are found, if too many bad sectors have been found and there are no more spare sectors to reallocate the bad ones then it's way past time to replace the disk.
That said, you can always tell mkfs.whatever to search for and avoid damaged sectors (mkfs.whatever will call badblocks to search for and report the damaged sectors). You will be gambling with your data though, because it is quite probable that more bad sectors will develop over time.

    Hi,
Did you try it? when you execute insert/update, corresponding trigger gets executed in same session and that's why I have V('Variable Name') . V('Variable Name') get will get replaced by its value in the current session sate.

  • How to claim warranty?

    Ok,
I have purchased one of these junk CR52-A2 drives.  I can officially call it junk becuase it hasn't worked since day 1.  It doesn't read nor write any CD's.  My bios, and windows (xp) both recognize that the drive is there, but will not read/write CD's.
So I e-mailed support and I got an automated message back....it seems like I am not going to get a response from them.
Does anyone know the correcdt method to claim warranty on these things?  The manufacture date was April, 2003 so I think it is still under warranty.
I tried the live-flash update but that didnt' help.  I'm pretty sure the drive is bad.
I know the first line of defense should have been to go to the retailer I purchased it through, but they only have a 30day warranty....and I waited a couple of months before I tried to return it...I know, stupid me.
Anyways, any help in the matter would be great.
At this point, I am almost ready to go drop the hundred bucks or so to get a real CDR...but I thought I would try the warranty method first...
    Thanks,
    Damion

I purchased a CR52 burner and I have the same problems with it!!!   And also, my drive was also manufactured on APRIL 2003, and yes, it NEVER WORKED!!!.The same thing that Damion described happens to me. Are all these drives bad??  Did MSI recall any defective burners??  Will I get it fixed 4 free??  Hope I have answers to all these questions. I paid $40 for it, but the money isn't the problem, its just UNFARE!!!
And I thought only I had that problem...

  • How to store document data with many reference documents

    hi,
I am designing cube with document data (let's say purchase order). I want to have granularity on document item level. Each item has many reference documents (e.g. purchase requisition, purchase agreement etc.). I plan to design all of document numbers as line items. It makes that in my cube will be about 3-4 item lines.
Is this way correct or I should deal with such data in other way?
    Regards,
    Andrzej

If each document number occurs in one record only, then it should be designed as a line item. Multiple line items are ok.

  • Daisy chaining external HDD with FW 800? How do I do this?

I have a new My Book 500G HDD hooked up to my iMac with FW 800. I want to daisy chain a new one to it. Do you have to then use a FW 400 between the two external drives? How do you do this? Does that slow it down noticeably. I use it for HDV editing. Thanks!

    Hi Dan,
if I recall correctly than the FW800 MyBook has two FW800 ports, so that you can use one for connection to the Mac and one for daisy chain a second with FW800 to the first (assuming the second has also FW800).
If the second has only FW400 than you have to use the FW400 port of the first.
And since WD delivers all needed cables with the drives, you should have the needed cable to do so.
When using FW400 you will have a slowdown, since the harddisk itself has a higher throughput than what FW400 can do.
    Regards

  • SAP is running with corrupted DB6 Database with many "Bad Page Header" . .

    Hello Friends,
One of our DB6 Database is showing multiple entries in db2diag.log file, while performing SAP Local client copy, SGEN, SAP System Copy, REORGCHK for All, RUNSTAT for single Table......
RETCODE : ZRC=0x87020036=-2029912010=SQLB_BADHDR "Bad Page Header"
DIA8547C An error occurred in a database page header.
    System Information:
SAP system : Solution Manager 70 , Support Stack 15
    Database : DB2 v9.1.700.855 , FP7
Operating system: Windows Server 2003 Ent. x64 Edition
Currently, All things are working fine with the current status of DB6 Database. SAP Solman system is starting and shutting down in  normal way whenever it is required. In DB6COCKPIT, not even single alert is there for inconsistent objects, and for other factors. Even, At present, I am  able to perform both compressed /uncompressed Online/Offline backup of the System Database.
Previously, the system was maintained by other BASIS administrator. The problem came to know by me, when i  ran SGEN after successfully applying ST-A/PI add-on in system, as per as EarlyWatch report notification. The corruption might happened before 6 to 7 months ago, as i have seen the same messages in db2diag.log files, when the same problem was identified by me recently. And moreover, as per as our Backup cycle, all dedicated Backup Tapes are overwritten with existing status of SAP Solman Database within this 6 to 7 months long period, so I can not restore the consistent Database backup to correct the problem.
The ABAP dumps which came as a result of SGEN and of some operations are as followed:
    DBIF_REPO_INTERNAL_ERROR
DBIF_REPO_SQL_ERROR (SQL error "-1034" occurred when accessing program, SQL error "-99999" occurred when accessing program)
    GEN_BRANCHOFFSET_LIMIT_REACHED
    etc...etc...
I tried to diagnosis the cause of this problem using DB2DART tool and done the  analysis of all tablespaces. Out of 37 Tablespaces, multiple  Tablespaces are found with error/corruptions.
Due to the corruption in multiple Database Obejcts, I am not able to do SAP Local client copy, SGEN, SAP System Copy, REORGCHK for All, RUNSTAT for single Table... and other Database related operations.
Is there any alternative to correct this corrupted database excep Backup/Restore database?
I am looking for your cooperations to solve this unexpected critical Problem.

    Ashley,
Fortunately the db2diag.log provides a lot of good debugging information. Here is an excerpt of the information that we captured for a (different) problem we were having:
    2009-03-26-17.22.23.655840000 I6020445A3130      LEVEL: Severe

Basically the information you are looking for is the PageKey which tells you that the problem happened in tablespace id 59, tableid 9 pagenumer 5409475. You can then use db2dart to dump that particular page and examine the contents (in our case it was zeroed out due a filesystem problem).
    db2dart <db> /DP /TSI 59 /PS 5409475 /NP 0
There are various other dump options that you can use. I have found this to be very useful in diagnosing these kind of problems.

  • Replace HDD with SSD for HP ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Notebook PC

I'd like to buy a HP ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Notebook PC and a HP v300a 120GB SATA Solid State Drive with Upgrade Kit.
Now the SSD has a 7mm thickness.
My question is if I can replace the HDD with this SSD? How thick is the HDD bay in the laptop.
If it's more than 7mm will the SSD move inside it?
    Thanks
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
The old HDD on your machine is a bit thicker but with at least 4 screws I don't think new SSD will floating around in the case. I actually put new SSD in one of my laptop (not HP) and no problem BUT I don't move this laptop around. If needed, blue tac may help.

  • B570 600GB HDD with bad sectors (Recovery issue)

    Hi,
I run into a series issue.
    some facts before:
*The 600GB HDD has bad sectors (checked with WD test tool-boot cd)
*The bad sectors are only on the beginning of the physical drive (D partition and LENOVO_PART are intact and fully readable)
*Managed to recover most of the data of C drive (With restorer 2000)
*Managed to clone the D partition and LENOVO_PART to a new 500GB HDD
I can't seems to find a way to use the tiny recovery button, its failing and asking me to boot from cd.
Don't have any of B570 model but I tried to use a recovery cd of T410 to boot. but I can't see any restore partition.
    Only cd recovery option.
Any help on how to recover from the cloned recovery partition will be great.
    Thanks!

    hi get2guy,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
The OneKey Recovery button will only work if the partition structure of the system is not damage.  On the new HDD that was cloned with the D-Drive and the OEM Recovery Partition, try to
    1. Create a bootable Gparted USB/CD and boot from it
    2. On the User Interface, set the OEM Recovery Partition as Active/Boot/Primary
    3. Reboot and remove the Gparted USB/CD and see if it boots the recovery partition as shown in this article.
If the above procedure doesn't work, you will need to reinstall the OS using a retail OS or use a lenovo recovery discs (if you were not able to create one using this method then you will need to contact lenovo on how to obtain a copy of the B570 recovery discs).
    Hope this helps

  • How to ckeck a HDD for bad sectors.

Hi, how do I ckeck a HDD for bad sectors? I don't seem to find an option for fsck to do this. Does the filesystem matter?

gsmartcontrol (GUI for smartmontools) says all self-tests are safe wrt data and "Extended self-test examines complete disk surface and performs various test routines built into the drive".
I believe all of that.  I'm just not sure about the implications of trying it with a mounted file system.  At the very least, I would expect the system to become extremely disk bound.  Other scenarios are the drive might end or suspend the test to service other requests, or, the drive could become unresponsive to the point that the kernel pitches a fit.
If the tools allow you to start a test, I suppose the worst that can happen is a system crash with un-synced disks.

  • Migrating from HDD with bad sectors to SSD

My mid-2010 Macbook pro running OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) has been extremely slow.  It passes Disk Utility's Verify Disk step but when I brought it to the Apple store, it failed the diagnostic tests they ran with their ethernet cable.  There were bad sectors detected and they figured  this was what was slowing me down.
So I decided to switch to an SSD but I have questions about how to restore my files.  I tried cloning my HD to an external drive with both Disk Utility's restore and using asr on the command line.  In both cases I get an error at the very end
"Checksum failed.  Could not restore - cannot allocate memory"
I'm still able to boot from the external drive that was created though.  I was also (recently) able to create a Time Machine backup with no error messages.  So my question is
    1. What is the best way to restore my files?
    a) Using the (possibly corrupt) HD clone
    b) reinstalling from the OSX Installation DVD and restoring with Time Machine
    c) Something else like Carbon Copy Clone

    montburns,
Only by doing file-by-file examination against a known good copy, or relying upon a batch process which generates a “I couldn’t copy these” file list (and in the latter case, presuming that the list is due solely to bad sectors).
It means i) — either to put your internal drive in an external enclosure, or to attach it to a SATA-to-USB or SATA-to-FireWire adapter, then connecting it to the appropriate external port, and then using Startup Manager to select it as the boot drive.
If you have appropriate software, you could, but I’m not familiar with what’s available on OS X — I hope that other people can offer a list of apps from which you could choose.
Between ddrescue and rsync, I’d choose ddrescue for copying from a potentially faulty disk. To my knowledge, rsync will just copy whatever it finds; but if it creates a list of “I couldn’t copy these” files, then that could be a way to find out where bad sectors might be having an effect.

I bought a brand new Mac 27" desktop that came loaded with Adobe CS6. Everything worked like a charm until the hard drive, 1Tb, developed a bad sector and the Apple Store reinstalled a new one as I had extended warranty with them. They recycled the drive immediately (like a fool I didn't ask for it back to get the data off it.) But luckily I have all my data on CrashPlan. I downloaded it and it worked great except I downloaded it to the desktop and not the original location so it got squirrely. I also have an external 1.5Tb drive that I wanted to make bootable so I installed Mavericks 10.9.3 . I then went ahead and installed it on the newly installed drive too.
I think that because I have a new drive Adobe thinks I have a news computer. I bought the 27" Mac brand new from Ebay and it came loaded with software, including CS6. I have a serial number for CS6 but Adobe said it wasn't valid. (I have owned CS2, CS4 and now CS6 which came preloaded onto the Mac by the seller who told me that the software was registered to the Mac???
I am going to re-download the backup but this time to the original location (I still don't think it will work with Adobe. What can I do about this?

  • Moving iTunes library from a hard disk with bad sectors to new hard drive

I have tried to move my itunes library using the method proposed by Apple in the support section but it does not work because of a bad hard drive.
I change the itunes folder in preferences. I let itunes organize my music. However, when I select consolidate music everything starts OK but stops when it hits the bad sectors on the old hard drive.
I can copy the rest of the music to the new hard drive manually using finder. However, the music is not recognized in the new location only the old location.
I have tried many things including moving music to another hard drive and naming it the same as the old hard drive and then trying to consolidate it. That does not work. I have tried the method of changing the library.xml file to reflect the new folder. That does not work. I am at a stand still. I have invested much time rating the music and I do not want to lose that.
    Any suggestions?

Thank Chris I have just done that. How do I now get them in to Itunes ?
If you simply copy the iTUnes folder to /Music/ and launch iTUnes, everythign will be there. No need to import anything.
This will work the same with iPhoto.
Simply copy the Photo library to /Pictures/ folder and launch iPhoto.
