Store Mail messages in other locations

I would like to save incoming and outgoing email messages to specific project folders rather than Mail mailboxes so that the messages can reside with other project data such as correspondence, drawings, etc. Any suggestions?

Are you using Mac Mail - the icon that looks like a stamp?
If yes, you can create Mailboxes. (click on Mailbox in the menu bar and select New Mailbox...) These are folders and are visible in Mail.
You store the mail you wish to archive in appropriate folders.

  • I've installed OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and some Apple Apps installed unespectedly close even before they are opened. This affects Mac App Store, Mail and several other apps

    I installed OSX 10.8.2 just yesterday night (12-27-2012) and every time I attempt to open some of the Apple Apps, such as Mac App Store, Notes and Messages, among others, they don't mount at all and a failure message appears on the screen instead. No matter how many times I try to open those apps, they won't open at all and the same message appears again and again. Is there a solution for this or should I reinstall the OSX Mountain Lion in order to solve this issue?

  • Mac Mail creates duplicate messages in GMAIL bin and various other locations...

    This has been quite frustrating finding 20 copies or half written copies of my mail as mac mail saves it as a draft then moves it to the bin.
    When i perform a search for something im greeted with 20 half written copies of an email?
    Anyone know why this is happening?

    I assume your Gmail account is set up as IMAP.
    In Mail, go to Preferences, Accounts tab, select the Gmail account. In the right pane, select Mailbox Behaviors, and uncheck "Store draft messages on the server".
    Draft(s) will the only be saved on your Mac and more "safely" deleted when the mail is sent. If stored on the server, a slow or shaky Internet connection can prevent from it happening.

  • I cannot open any of my Hotmail e-mail messages, delete them, look at other ones, nothing. All I can do is sign in and that is it.

    I cannot open any of my Hotmail e-mail messages, delete them, look at other old ones, nothing. All I can do is sign in and that is it. I have tried deleting cookies, clearing the cache space, rebooting the computer, rebooting my internet connection, refreshing the page several times. Here is the thing. I can get on the page and read my mail, etc. like normal if i use Internet Explorer, but I prefer Firefox. The problem is Firefox and I rely on my e-mail for job purposes. I hope someone can help me!!!

    Nevermind. I finally found a third party answer and will post it for anyone else with my problem.

  • In mail, I unchecked store deleted messages on the server and now I have 2 (duplicate) iCloud IMAP accounts in mail. If I delete one, will I loose my mail?

    If I delete one of my duplicate ICloud accounts, will I loose all my mail? I was searching for where I was getting the deleted mail and unchecked the store deleted messages on the server. That made changes to my account and now under accounts in mail I have the same account twice. I do not want to loose my mail and am affraid to delete one of the accounts.

    Im trying to avoid a reinstall so am hoping there is a supporting file I have missed that can be trashed. I have also just tried trashing the ~/library/mail folder but there is no change to the check box behaviour.

  • With an IMAP account, if "Store sent messages on the server" is checked does Mail only store mail on the server?

    With an IMAP account, if "Store sent messages on the server" is checked (in Mailbox behaviors) does Mail only store sent mail on the server?
    So should it not be checked if you want Mail to store sent mail on the server and the computer?
    Thank you.
    iHope

    Hi Norm G,
    Thanks for your comments and the link to further information.
    With it checked you will get both on the server and the Mac.
    I have it checked, yet when I pause the curser over Sent mailbox the tooltip says "Contents stored on server. Name on server: Sent Messages". Does this mean stored only on the server or also on the server?
    What does your tooltip say?
    At the moment sent emails only appear in that Sent mailbox. If Mail also stores them on the Mac should they also appear in another Sent folder "On My Mac"?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Mail 7.0 continually re-enables "Store deleted messages on server"

    I have to say that I am beyond frustrated with the way Mail 7.0 keeps checking the box to "Store deleted messages on server" for my outlook.com IMAP email account.  I have searched for hours on the web for a solution and nothing has worked for me.
    The effect of this is when I delete a message in the Mail app on my MacBook Pro, the message remains on the server and appears Mail on my other IOS devices (IPhone, IPad) and in other email application (Outlook 2011).  However, deleting a message on another IOS device, via another email application or through the web works as expected.
    -I have unchecked the "Store deleted messages on server" box and it magically checks itself again
    -I have deleted and added the outlook.com account back to Mail
    -I have deleted the com.apple.mail.plist file
    -I have scoured the outlook.com settings on the website for a solution to no avail
    Does anyone know what the h*** is going on and why Mail keeps changing this setting back?

    One problem jumps out at me right away, when you close your folder, you specify false, change this to true and that should delete all the messages on the server that were marked as DELETE:
    in the last few lines, change:
    folder.close(false);
    to:
    folder.close(true);
    you will still need to use:
    message.setFlag(Flags.Flag.DELETED,true);
    to set the flag of the messages you wish to delete.

  • 8830..Moving e-mail messages from Inbox to other folder

    On my 8830...When I move e-mail messages from my Inbox to a different folder (under Inbox), they disappear totally from my laptop e-mail rather than mirroring what I did on my BlackBerry.  On the flip side, if I move messages from my Inbox to another folder on my laptop, it does mirror on my BlackBerry.  My e-mail is Outlook 2003, running on my company's Microsoft Exchange Server.  Please help.

    Since you have folders under your Inbox, I can only assume you're on a BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server) setup receiving your Corporate email.  If that's not the case, I can't figure out how you got folders under your Inbox, and have NO IDEA how you're getting the results you're getting as BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) email accounts can't have folders!
    You most likely don't have reconciliation enabled for the folders you're moving your email to.
    Go into Messages, hit the [Menu] button and select Options --> Email Settings.  Hit the [Menu] button and select Folder Redirection.
    You should see your Mailbox at the top with a + to the left of it.  Highlight that line, hit [Menu] --> Expand to display the main folders under your Mailbox.  Your Inbox should appear with a Box next to it either checked or filled in.
    Highlight Inbox, and again hit [Menu] --> Expand to display the folders under your Inbox.  All the folders under your Inbox, and the boxes are probably unchecked or not "filled in".  Scroll to the folders you want reconciled with your BlackBerry and hit [Space] to check or fill the box next to it.  Use [Menu] --> Expand if there's a + to the left of the box to expand subfolders.
    Once all the folders you want reconciled are checked or filled, hit [Esc] and save.
    Now your email won't dissappear when you move it!  You should also notice in the Messages list that email in folders other than your Inbox have a folder icon rather than an Envelope icon.
    And before you ask...  The BlackBerry does NOT SYNCHRONIZE, it Reconciles.  Email is pushed to the device ONCE, and only changes to the status of messages are transmitted after that.  Moves will only be reflected after you've turned Reconciliation on for a given folder.  BTW - emails you moved that disappeared should have been in your Deleted Items folder.
    Reconciliation rather than Synchronization saves enormously on data transmission ($) as well as Battery life.  Believe me - we have both BlackBerries (Big Wigs only) and Windows Mobile (the rest of the 25,000 peons) devices at my company, and the most common complaint about the Windows devices is battery life, and HUGE costs when the device is overseas!

  • I accidently deleted a voice mail message.  Is there any way to retrieve it?  I was told I had to talk with technical support to reset the password to my voice mail. Can someone tell me how to do this?  When I call, I can't understand the other person

    I accidently deleted a voice mail message.  Is there any way to retrieve it?  I was told I had to reset my password since I entered the wrong one three times.

    Depends on your carrier.  You'll have to contact your carrier for how to do this.  (This is for AT&T: http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=52649#fbid=WLddP4KyTAu.)

  • HT1926 Have the same problem as many other users: tried to update iTunes on Windows 7 today; first message "unable to locate component- MSVCR80.dll was not found" then "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes - Error 7 (Windows error 1

    I have the same problem as many other users: updated iTunes on Windows 7 on Jan 26, 2014 and iTunes does not open.  First message "unable to locate component- MSVCR80.dll was not found" then "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes - Error 7 (Windows error 126)". When will Apple fix this? Don’t feel like uninstalling all Apple software and then re-installing it as suggested, as I am on a terribly slow internet connection while travelling in the DR Congo.

    Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
    Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
    The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
    Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • How do I set up a mail server and SMTP server to send messages to other mail servers at mavericks

    How do I set up a mail server and SMTP server to send messages to other mail servers at mavericks

    You need to get the settings for your email from your email provider and enter them in Internet Accounts (System Preferences). Many of the common systems are already available, all you need is a password and an email address to set them up.

  • SmartFolder doesn't locate Mail messages

    Spotlight search includes Mail messages, but when using the same criteria for a Smart Folder, Mail messages are NOT included. Is this by design, or an anomaly?
    Yes, I know I could use a Smart Mailbox, but I'd like a SmartFolder on my desktop that would include correspondence along with the other items that meet my criteria.
    PowerMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Mike has it nailed. You can create your own Smart Folder WITHOUT the exclusion. Thus if you created Smart Folder that searches for pinkmutant the actual query that is executed is this:
    (* = "pinkmutant*"wcd || kMDItemTextContent = "pinkmutant*"cd) && (kMDItemContentType != com.apple.mail.emlx) && (kMDItemContentType != public.vcard)
    So email and vcards are silently excluded from the search. What you can do is instead of typing the term in the Search box, go to the Other item in the criterion drop down menu, scroll down the list and select Raw Query, then enter just this in the Raw Query search box:
    (* = "pinkmutant*"wcd || kMDItemTextContent = "pinkmutant*"cd)
    It will now search for items whose text contains pinkmutant, including email and vcards.

  • Changing default Mail message storage location

    Hello,
    I'd like to start storing my mail messages by default on a wireless enabled HD that I just recently purchased. Is this even possible? I have a desktop machine as well as a laptop that I use around the house. Ideally, I'd like to have identical mail setups on each computer, that way I'm never scrounging around for sent messages or having to switch back and forth to remember which computer I sent a reply from.
    What I'm hoping is that if both mail programs are accessing the same message storage destination, then the messages will be the same on both computers. Can this be achieved?
    Thank you for your help!

    This is what IMAP is for
    Theoretically, I suppose you could do it by creating a directory on the external harddrive and then symlink ~/Library/Mail to it on each machine. Might be a little slow over the network though.

    Yes.  Buy it and sign on with your other Macs using the same AppleID.  It will be available in the Purchases tab.
    You can also make a copy of it after the first download and move it to your other machines to avoid another 4 gig download.   Make sure to do this before installing as the installer will delete the download from the applications folder.
