Store reports in client m/c using destype=localFile in rwservlet

Hi,
i am trying to store the reports in client machine using rwservlet(http://<<report server name>>:7777/reports/rwservlet). i gave the destype as localFile. but in screen displays a msg : "Oracle Job Status" as some number. i cannot able to trace what is the reason for this problem. If any one knows to generate reports and store that in client side using rwservlet, let me know. i badly require solution for this. Thanks in advance.
regards,
srini

Hi,
The job status is to indicate the process of the job, it was run ok you can go to the location specified in the URL to look for the report. I assume that you also have a report's name in the URL too.
The problrm is it cannot save to the local machine. IF you specified a location that is not on the server then you would have gotten an error saying that the device is not ready, cannot send output... If you specified a drive that is similar to the server then the output went to the server, for example, you put c:\ then the report went to C:\ on the server, or if you put c:\mydir but that directory does not exist on the server then you would have gotten the error.
All above applies to running the report outside the form and in the 9i environment, using the browser and providing the URL. Now, in the URL, for IE only, if you don't add &desname=.... part then YOU WILL GET THE SAVE AS DIALOG then you CAN SAVE to the local machine. The problem is if you save it as a PDF file then you won't be able to open it (you will see an error), somehow it did not close the file at the end of the save properly; if you save it as a RTF file then you can open it with any text editor just that the layout is messed up.
Now, if calling from the form the report will go the location on the server as before, but it also brings up on the screen and you can save it locally using the SAVE button of the editor.
Below is my url when running from browser:
http://igoracledba:7777/reports/rwservlet?report=f:\9ifiles\sirc_case_report.rep&userid=hotline/hotline@desgnr9i&server=report9i&destype=localfile&desformat=pdf&desname=c:\myreport.pdf -- will save to c:\ on server (this is also used in the WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT in the form).
http://igoracledba:8888/reports/rwservlet?report=f:\9ifiles\sirc_case_report.rep&userid=hotline/hotline@desgnr9i&server=report9i&destype=localfile&desformat=pdf -- will get the Save dialog
And that's what I 've been getting my project during the testing of the 9iDS suites.
Good luck.

  • Can I create report in anyway without using reporting studio client

    Hi All,
    I am using hyperion 11.1.1.1.0.0.
    I am creating reports from hyperion reporting and anlysis.
    I want to know, is there anyway of creating reports from workspace?
    If not then how can I create reports without accessing report studio client.
    Thanks

    In 9.3.1 (at least) you have to use the FR Studio, I'm pretty sure it's the same in 11.
    What happens in the workspace if you select from the Hyperion/Oracle menu:
    File/New/Document
    In 9.3.1 there are options for:
    - Interactive Reporting
    - Web Analysis
    - Report Books
    - Batches

  • Report destype=localfile problem

    Hi everybody,
    I have the following problem:
    When I execute a report in the browser like this:
    http://myserver/reports/rwservlet?report=prueba.rdf&userid=a/b@c&destype=file&desformat=pdf&desname=myfile.pdf
    everything goes well and the file "myfile.pdf" is generated in "myserver".
    When trying to get the file in the client executing like this:
    http://myserver/reports/rwservlet?report=prueba.rdf&userid=a/b@c&destype=localfile&desformat=pdf&desname=myfile.pdf
    the report finishes well, as indicated in the server's queue, but the file doesn't appear in the client or in the server.
    Is there anything I am doing wrong?
    Just in case you give me an answer to the problem, if I submit the report from the BBDD, via the SRW package, is the server in which the BBDD the client?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Rodolfo.
    First of all thank you for your answer.
    Maybe it depends on the version you are working with. I work with Reports Builder 10.
    If you look at the Destype System Parameter there are 7 options: screen, file, printer, mail, sysout, cache and localfile.
    In the "Help" says for DESTYPE=LOCALFILE:
    Valid only for rwservlet, rwclient, and rwcgi. Sends the output to a file on the client machine and forces a synchronous call.
    And that is my case because I am using rwservlet.

    Best Regards,

    Hi,
    the first thing you need to check is if you are able to print from the OS using the same lpr command that reports is using and using the printer queue being used when you submitted the report request.
    Try to print any file from command line using lpr and your print queue \\askit\PRN01F8. If this does not work then that needs to be fixed from the OS standpoint before running report to printer.
    Hope it helps

    Aswin,
    The client session is your primary TopLink interface abstracting over the shared cache and connection pooling. Depending if you are using internal or external connection pooling and the transaction state you are in TopLink may have a JDBC connection allocated to your client session. A client session does equate to a single dedicated JDBC connection for its entire lifecycle.
    Assuming you are using an external connection pool (Application server's data source) your client session will have a connection from this data source when required to perform a read and during the commit of its UnitOfWork.

    If you offer a PDF to the end user, they usually know what to do with it. OTOH, if you wish to provide software to facilitate the local printing, you might launch an application on the client side that accesses the JNLP API's PrintService - that can be done in a sandboxed application.
    A signed application might access the normal J2SE based print services. Though I heard that Sun had decided to make printing a 'prompt on first attempt' deal - even for sandboxed apps., from 1.5 plus (or was it 1.6 plus?).
    It would be a serious security bug if a web site could print on the client printer, without trust or active involvement from the end user.

  • Print Reports on Client Default Printer

    Hi All,
    I am using  Oracle Reports 11g Release 2 (11.1.2.2.0).
    I want to print oracle reports from ADF which is JEE base framework on client default printer. I am send just plane url to generate report to report server. In Oracle forms we have option to get job id of report, but in plain url i am not seeing any thing like that. In forms in am generating PDF wait untill job is finished and then send pdf to client printer by using job id.
    How it will be possible by using plain URL send to report server or any other idea to achieve this task.

  • Saving PDF report on Client machine

    Dear All,
    I have one form where the user can select the path he want to save PDF report (generated by Report Bulder) to (I am using Webutil). I set that path as DESFORMAT before calling the repot but when the report is run, it is saved on server (Application server) if the same path exists on server (e.g; c:\temp), otherwise it gives error.
    How i can do this?
    Regards

    Hello,
    I would guess that all the pdf files you are generating in AS in c:\temp directory. Otherwise if files are in c:\temp\data then you will have to change in the webutil.cfg file. So, according to your webutil.cfg file the function call can be like this..
    lResult := WEBUTIL_FILE_TRANSFER.AS_TO_CLIENT_WITH_PROGRESS
                   ('C:\TEMP\ABC.TXT',
                    'C:\TEMP\ABC.TXT',
                    'TITLE',
                    'PLEASE WAIT...');Or otherwise if the files are in C:\TEMP\DATA then change the config setting to the below and try the function as below...
    transfer.database.enabled=TRUE
    transfer.appsrv.enabled=TRUE
    transfer.appsrv.workAreaRoot=
    transfer.appsrv.accessControl=TRUE
    transfer.appsrv.read.1=c:\temp\data
    transfer.appsrv.write.1=c:\temp\dataAnd function like this...
    lResult := WEBUTIL_FILE_TRANSFER.AS_TO_CLIENT_WITH_PROGRESS
                   ('C:\TEMP\data'ABC.TXT',
                    'C:\TEMP\ABC.TXT',
                    'TITLE',
                    'PLEASE WAIT...');Make sure that file is readable on the AS and the directory C:\TEMP is available on the client side.
    Using example you can find in webutil demo. Check the below link.

  • How to open a file created at the server through form/report at client end

    How to open a file created at the server through form/report at client end
    Dear Sir/Madame,
    I am creating a exception report at the server-end using utl file utility. I want to display this report at the client end. A user doesn't have any access to server. Will u please write me the solution and oblige me.
    Thanks
    Rajesh Jain

    One way of doing this is to write a PL/SQL procedure that uses UTL_FILE to read the file and DBMS_OUTPUT to display the contents to the users.

    Regards,
    Ramanan

    Hello Ramanan,
    Report Builder : connect JDBC Query in Report Builder is to through Connection Dialog in JDBC Query Editor. User can use a Sign on parameter (can use, default : P_JDBCPDS or can create new) to connect to JDBC Data Source. Connection once made will be mentioned and will be reused through out Reports Builder.
    JDBC PDS allows user to connect one or more same or different kind of databases.
    While running report through runtime or Server, user can pass the sign on parameter(connection string) value, like any other user parameter.
    Syntax for connection string : <username>/<password>@databaseURL . The syntax of database part of connection string depend on the type of JDBC Driver used to connect to Data Source while designing the JDBC Query. databaseURL refer to the location of the database and its format depend on the JDBCPDS river selected in design time while creating the JDBC Query.
    rwrun eg :

  • Generating a report for clients that are not registered

    Hi - Hopefully someone can assist. We are looking to generate a report in SCCM 2012 that will tell us if a client is properly registered, and most recent scan.
    I can't seem to find a generic report for this task, so does anyone know if one exists - or how to create a custom one?
    Thanks!

    what means "properly registered" in your eyes?  To me, if it was able to communicate at all--heartbeat; that means it had to have registered.  But maybe you have a different criterion.
    So I think what you want is simply something like...
    select s.Netbios_Name0, max(disc.AgentTime) as LastHeartbeat
    from v_r_system s
    left join v_agentDiscoveries disc on s.resourceid=disc.resourceid
    and disc.AgentName = 'Heartbeat Discovery'
    Group by s.Netbios_Name0
    order by LastHeartbeat desc
    where the most recent heartbeat at the top; and boxes with no heartbeat reported will be null at the bottom.  If you don't want to even "see" the boxes that have never reported a heartbeat successfully, then don't left join, use just Join
    You could also use v_r_system_valid, instead of v_r_system.  As you can tell by the name, _valid means that CM itself has determined those are valid clients; so that might be what you think of as "properly registered".
    It all boils down to what means "properly registered" to you, and what you mean by "recent scan".  is a recent scan a heartbeat?  a software update scan?  hardware inventory reported?  and what means "recent".  the sample above is
    reporting on anything and everything regardless of date.
    As for default reports, you're saying that the default reports in "Client Status" don't fit your criteria?
    Standardize. Simplify. Automate.
