Store says app is installed - but it isn't. What do I do?

I have purchased an app, in the store it says it is 'Installed' but then an error with come up saying there was a problem with installation and it doesn't appear in either launchpad or the applications folder. What do I do?

First, from the App Store menu bar top of your screen click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads
If that didn't help, try re downloading the app.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • App Store says Lion is installed but it isn't - What happened?

I have the appropriate qualifying hardware and software and downloaded Lion, clicked on proceed and App Store says it is installed but it isn't.
    Any ideas?

I had Xcode 4.1 installed. Wanted to install (yet another) package with MacPorts, but got complaint that Xcode 4.1 is inadequate.
So I go to App Store & tell it to install current Xcode…This, BTW, left me with nearly zero feedback that something was going on. Only because I have a menubar widget showing network bandwidth did I know it was downloading.
while waiting (who knows how long it was to be), I had to sleep my computer to take it with me to work.
Upon waking my computer, App Store tells me Xcode is installed. Great!
Back to MacPorts to install that package: it tells me that Xcode 4.1 is too old. ***!?
Then things get messy & I end up clicking on the circle-X "button" next to XCode in the "Purchases" section of App Store, thinking that'll allow me to install it…that's a dead end
    I then try entirely removing "/Developer" & "/Applications/Install Xcode.app"another dead end
Trying all combinations of holding any/all keyboard modifiers (option/control/shift/command) while clicking on "Purchases" in App Store did nothing different than not holding any.
Now I'm left with no Xcode & no way to install it with App Storewhee! this is a fine pit I find myself in now.
What a lovely user experience! Please, may I have more?! <grumble> <fume>
In the end, I did resort to my "what happened to…" thought.
    Problem Solved:
Go to http://connect.apple.com/ & login with your (free) dev account.
Locate the current version of Xcode (4.3.2 for Lion) & download the dmg
Install like a normal person. (copy the Xcode.app from the mounted disk image to Applications)
After a bit of cleanup (things like "/usr/bin/xcodebuild -version" were trying to access things that used to exist), I've again got a working install of Xcode.

  • App Store says Xcode is installed but it isn't, so I can't install XCode

What can I say.  I tried to install XCode but it did not finish.  Now the App Store thinks XCode is installed.  I need XCode for MacPorts to work.  Does anyone know how I can tell the App Store XCode is not installed?

  • App store says FCPX is installed but it isn't

Final Cut Pro was not updating on my Mac Pro, version 10.0.0 was installed and the App Store didn't show any updates. So I trashed the application and expected the App Store to allow me to reinstall. However the App Store still says "INSTALLED".
Any advice for how I can get FCPX reinstalled and updated?
    Thank you.
    OS X 10.8.5

If you had it on more than one boot volume mounted in the Mac Pro, then you may need to dismount the other one to get MAS to now give it to you.

  • App store says app is installed but it doesnt show on the iPad

    How do I fix this?

Restart the iPad and see if the icon appears
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If you still can't find it - do a search. Swipe to the right from the home screen and type the name of the App in the search fails. If it appears, then you know that it is on the iPad.
Swipe from screen to screen and look in all folders as well.
    Do you have restrictions enabled?

  • I purchased OSX Lion from the APP store.  The installation failed, but the store says it is installed, which it isn't.  Does anyone have an answer to get the APP to re-download the APP?

The APP store has my purchase of OSX Lion marked as "Installed", but it isn't.  The installation failed and I'm tring to redownload the OS but cannot because it is marked as installed.
    Any suggestions?

Are you sure that the installation failed, or are you perhaps confused about what happened. It is a 2 step process for Lion. What gets downloaded to your Mac is an installer. Do you find a Lion Installer in the Apps folder on your Mac? If so, double click to open it and follow the on screen instructions to install Lion on your Mac.
Always be sure to back up your Mac before attempting an OS upgrade in case something goes wrong and you loose your entire kit.

  • Mac app store says iwork is installed, but its not.

The Mac App store says that Pages, Keynote, and Numbers are all installed on my iMac, but when I open them, they are the previous versions.  Should I delete and try to re-install?  What do I do?  I've already restarted.  Didn't work.  Suggestions?

Don't delete them. That will not help and you will find that they have more features than the new iWork apps. You can have both version on the computer. You have to have the latest version of iWork 09 for this to work.
    To get the new ones.
    1. log out of MacAppStore
    2. Change the localized language in the System preferences> Language and Text > Text. Make sure the new language is on the top of the list
    3. Restart the computer
    4. Log in and open the MAcAppStore. Now you should see that you can download the new iWork apps. Do so and supply you AppleID for the appStore.
5.When done change language again in the System preferences
    6. Restart the computer
    7. now you should have the stripped version of iWork. The old one will still be in the application folder too.

    Hi and welcome.....
Quit the Mac App Store (Command + Q)
Launch iTunes. From the iTunes menu bar click iTunes/Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Click the *Reet warnings* and *Reset cache* buttons.
Now from the menu bar again click Store / View My Account. Click: Sign Out
Now launch the Mac App Store and try purchasing iPhoto 11 again.
If that didn't help either, install the 10.6.6 combo update available here.

Restart your Mac and try again.
If you still have problems, you can email Mac App Store Customer Service here.

  • App Store Says App Is "Installed" When It's Not

    Hi,
I have just done a fresh install on Mountain Lion to my MacBook Pro after imaging my old Lion install.
I am now testing some apps but when I go to the App Store I'm told the apps I have purchased are "Installed" when they aren't - at least not on this machine with Mountain Lion.  But they are on the older Lion image.
Can I 'reset' the apps status (or force installs) or do I need to do something more drastic first?  I have removed the App Store plistfiles and rebooted but this makes no difference.  I guess the app store believes them to still be installed on this machine.  Which they effectively are but on a Lion image.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply.  Not sure if this was the issue or not as I seemed to have found another 'workaround'.
Basically I downloaded a free app that wasn't installed via the app store and also restored an app that the app store was saying was already installed.  I then ran them both and then immediately removed them using AppDelete.
Rebooted and relaunched App Store and all is now good.
Thanks for the reply.  Maybe both our 'solutins' will help others.
    Regards

  • Why does the App Store say Numbers is installed when it isn't?

Numbers crashed after the last update so I removed it from my Mac but now the App Store keeps saying it is still installed and won't let me re-download it. Any ideas? (I have restarted the computer)
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi Sparkoids,
Perhaps you could try this. In Mac App Store, click on Account, then sign in, and "Reset all warnings for buying and download.' Then sign out and back in and try downloading again.
(Also, make sure it's the Numbers in your Applications folder that you moved to the trash, not the Numbers that you may have in an iWork '09 subfolder within Applications. You'll probably want to keep the version that's in the subfolder because it's got features that the new Numbers does not have, at least not yet. The two versions for the most part coexist happily on the Mac.)

  • AAM reports app as "Installed" but it isn't.

I’n not exactly sure what went wrong but for some reason the installation of Flash Professional CS6 didn’t work. However, the Adobe Application Manager is reporting it as “installed”. Do I have any way of either re-installing or reseting the AAM so it reports it as needing installation? Rightly or wrongly I have since removed the “Adobe Flash CS6” folder that was created (it never contained anything more than a couple of folders and no app), but this made no difference.
System info: Mac OS X 10.8
    Thanks.

Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, then reinstall.
