Stores that sell iPod hard drives?

Well, my iPod is now officially broken, and I need a new hard drive for it. Are there any actual stores that sell hard drives for an iPod of this kind, or do I definitely have to obtain one online?
Thanks for any help.

Don't know of any brick and mortar stores that offer such a drive. You might try Googling.

  • IPod Hard drive cord

I was reading the Apple news on yahoo.com and I read that the maker of the iPod hard drive now sells a cord that can hook the hard drive to a normal computer. So its just like having a hard drive with a USB cord. If anyone has any details, leave a post on here. Thanks

This has nothing to do with the iPod except the hard drive is the same one used.
The actual hard drives are available from other sources.
The cable provides a connection between the 1.8inch
Toshiba hard drive (used in the iPod) and a standard 2.5 inch 40p in IDE hard drive interface.
It's not for use with the iPod.
Currently, Apple makes their own cable to attach this hard drive (internally) to the iPod .

  • Toshiba StorE Art 2Tb External Hard Drive not recognized by HP Elite /Win7

I have a new HP Elite Desktop running Windows 7 Home Edition:
I bought some few months ago a Toshiba Store Art 2Tb Ext Hard drive, which until today worked well. Today I started the PC in the morning (with no update of Windows or other software) to find it would no longer recognize the Toshiba Hard drive. It still recognizes the WD drives, and the SimpleTech drives when they are plugged in. All External Drives are powered separately and do not rely on USB power.
I tried the Store Art on other PC's and it works fine. I tried switching the cables, and the cable works on other drives, (and other cables will not make this Store Art work). I tried several USB 2 ports on the PC, with no luck *(but all ports work with the other drives).
I tries COMPUTER, MANAGE, and checked Drvivers and Disks. There was no sign of the Disk available (no malfunctioning disk), it was just not there at all.
I searched the web - tried a range of techniques (unplugging PC from power) and more. No luck.
    The PC Specifications are:
    Operating System
    MS Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit SP1
    CPU
    Intel Core i3 530 @ 2.93GHz 30 C
    Clarkdale 32nm Technology
    RAM
    3.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
    Motherboard
    MSI 2A9Ch (CPU 1) 38 C
    Graphics
    HP L1906 (1280x1024@60Hz)
    ATI Radeon HD 5450
    Hard Drives
    488GB Seagate ST3500418AS (SATA) 31 C
    Optical Drives
WD Virtual CD 1110 USB Device
    hp DVD-RAM GH60L
    Audio
    Realtek High Definition Audio
Works well with all other drives. and it worked with Toshiba till this morning.
    Any clues?
    thanks

Well - this is incredible. After leaving the Ext Store Art Drive turned off all day ( but the PC was left on) | cam home ready to try the advice of Keaney (thanks for your advice) which was the same as the techies at work: Try to roll back to OS to last good restore point - eg a week ago. Just before I did anything like that - I just flipped it on to see if a miracle occurred. Guess what. It fired up, was recognised, and all is working.
This is amazing - since my original posting: the PC has not been restarted, not been turned off, not been updated with new OS updates, has not had anything except normal web usage. Similarly the Store Art Ext HDD has been left off for the day, and just turned on tonight - not change plugs or cables or USB or anything. No cables have been touched or plugs jiggled. It just works.
Its like there is a gremlin there - teasing me, testing me, causing me havoc - and laughing all the way. I have no idea how this happened - but will monitor to see if it happens again.
thanks for the suggestions to resolve - for now I will do nothing.

  • How to delete iPod Hard Drive files? Help appreciated.

Since I have under a thousand songs, I enabled my Nano as a hard drive on my PC, and put the library on iPod. I went over to my new iMac Core Duo, and placed the songs into the empty iTunes there. I deleted the iTunes Music Folder on my iPods Hard Drive, and disenabled it for disk use. However, when I try to update my iPod on my iMac, it still shows that the iPod is filled up with the iTunes Music Folder on the hard drive because it won't let me update. I checked the folder once again and it shows nothing on the iPod Hard Drive.
My question is how do I delete that iTunes Music Folder, that I used to transfer songs to the iMac from my PC, off of my Nano's hard drive?
    Thanks,
    Martin

    Martin,
If all the music is on your iMac, then why don't you restore your iPod...
    Restore the iPod
Then reload everything from iTunes and the capacity and use space should be accurate.

  • Do you know of any stores that sell Ice Creme M?

I want to get some Ice Creme M scratch remover for my iPod to remove the hairline yet very shallow scratches on my 5G screen from my case... but to be honest I don't know of any stores that sell Ice Creme M. I am hoping Circuit City?!
The only place I can find it is at the manufacturers website... http://www.radtech.com
Cause I really don't want to buy it online.... but if I have no choice....
    Anyone?

    Anything useful (or close) here?

  • IPod hard drive continuously cycles and drains the battery...

    I have a 60G; version 1.3 iPod.
This is not an "every song, every podcast" situation, but I've noticed during certain songs/podcasts the iPod gets "stuck".
The song will continue to play (although on occasion the iPod will crapout), but functionality is very slow to respond (i.e., pause, ff, rewind, etc.)
I also notice that while the hard drive is cycling, the battery drains at an alarming rate.
    Please advise, thank you!

  • IPod + Hard Drive disappear upon launch

Every time I launch iTunes, as soon as my iPod syncs it "ejects" itself and disappears. This makes changing which playlists to include an arduous process that has to be timed very delicately.
I'd been dealing with it, though, until I relocated my music to a new external hard drive. Now whenever I launch iTunes, both the iPod and the hard drive eject almost immediately. The hard drive gives me the "device removal" message as if it had simply been unplugged. Sometimes it lets me reconnect them after a few minutes, but other times I have to play with it for a while to get my devices to reconnect.
I've been having the problem overall for about a year now, and updates to the iTunes software haven't helped.

IMHO, using a windows utility to defrag something like an ipod, with it's own OS running at the same time, is asking for trouble. The defrag program will likely touch and maybe move most of the data on the disk, possibly including data used by the ipod's OS. If it zigs while the OS is zagging then blooie, the ipod will crash.
How to decide if the ipod is fragmented is another issue. If you do suspect\decide that the ipod's drive is fragmented then it seems to me that the safest way to defrag the thing would be to restore it using the ipod updater, then let itunes reload it completely. This should clear off the disk and resave each file in a sequential manner, which will have the effect of defragging the drive.

  • Ipod hard drive management ?

I have my 5G set for disk use on windows XP, my way of thinking is that the ipod has a hard drive not to dissimilar to any pc or mac bassed computer and as such will obviously benifit from disk management utillites such as defrag ect-.
Can anyone confirm as to weather it would be safe to launch defrag on my ipod ?
I assume it would be as my pc see`s my ipod as another drive.

  • Swapping an iPod hard drive for an iBook hard drive?

I have a broken iPod which should have a fully functional hard drive. And I have an iBook G4 with a fried hard drive. I took the ipod apart and pulled the hard drive. My question is, can I put the iPod hard drive in the iBook? They're both IDE drives right? So it should just be a matter of going through the 200 step iBook disassembly procedure right?
The iPod hard drive isnt large but I'd like to resurect the iBook if at all possible.

nlmart, Welcome to the discussion area!
One thing to be aware of is that Apple has always recommended against using the iPod as a system hard drive. Presumably the operation as a system hard drive is more stressful than that of a music file server.
Performance would also suffer compared to even a 4200RPM 2.5" drive. Not to mention that most 2.5" 5400RPM (or even 7200RPM) drives will absolutely blow away a 1.8" iPod drive in terms of transfer rate.

  • Color iPod Hard Drive

My friend fired his hard drive by getting it wet, and wants a replacement. Can I use any iPod hard drive for this, or do I need to get a certian size? If I swap them out, will the iPod work with the new one?

Check out ipodresq . . . or do a search on Google. Lots of places sell them (iPod parts), and I'll just bet you could get the specs from one of them . . .

Let's hope a couple things: that you have bootable clones of your drives also; that the backup drive for TimeMachine has over 3x capacity of the data you plan and are storing. I would also switch TM backup drives so you have a 2nd.
Fragmented free space affecting performance happens when the drive is too full which may mean there isn't enough free space for a full backup set.
1.5TB for backing up 500GB, while WD Green 3TB is $140 and WD Black 1.5TB is, about the same price.
I'd be worried about the integrity and directory, and whether you can afford to lose that drive. Defragging is also a very slow operation. the ideal: to just clone a drive, or start over with another drive and wait. cloning TM volumes has not been done or has it? SuperDuper hoped to but I don't think they or Bombich's CCC made it there.
Trouble with highly fragged is when free space gets to 20% normally, 1/3 or so though for TM volumes, and finding where and a chunk of space for the file being written. Does TM use large spare image files of like 2GB?
Best would be to ask in the TimeMachine section Snow Leopard

    Thanks for your response.
I had tried COMMAND+ALT+R which led me to directly to INTERNET RECOVERY via wifi. After 1 hour or so it dropped me at the same point.
I've tried MIGRANT ASSISTANCE as well, it kept on LOOKING FOR OTHER COMPUTERS even though I clicked on TIME MACHINE BACK UP USING EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE
    so what to do now?
P.S. Guys at MacStore were so careless to even listen to me when I asked them about retrieving back up :(

When I look at the storage it's saying that I have 1.5 available gigs of space and when I dig deeper it shows that it's not video, audio or document but it's other.
