Storing data in oracle 8i with PtG

I want to store retrieved data in a database (oracle 8i) with Portal-to-Go?
Is it necessary to write an adapter and in that case where can I find information about adapters? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

OTN has some sample apps that show how to store documents in the database as CLOBs:

  • Want to load excel data into oracle table with out changing it to CSV

    Hello all,
    I have a requirement in dumping excel data into oracle database table without changing it to CSV file and this has to be used in normal sql/plsql environment i.e., pkg/procedure cant be used in the forms also...
    so, can u guys can help me out in this
    thanks.............

    The link Pavan provided discusses Oracle Heterogeneous Services. This allows you (using ODBC) to create a database link from Oracle to a non-Oracle data source like Excel. This would allow you to query the Excel data source from SQL*Plus or any other client tool. But that is probably going to require that your Oracle database is running on Windows since I'm not aware of any Excel ODBC drivers for Unix.
    Another potential option would be to write a Java stored procedure that parsed the file. There are a few different Java libraries that can read and write Excel data files. You could load one of those libraries into the database's JVM and then write Java code that parsed the file. You would then be able to call your Java stored procedure from PL/SQL.

  • Storing dates in oracle

    Hi all,
    Probably it might be a silly question, but it just made me wonder... how???
    Here is my query....
    It seems oracle stores dates in an internal numeric format, representing the century, year, month, day, hours, minutes and seconds. For example 07-Jun-1994 5:10:43 PM is stored in the database as
    Century     Year     Month     Day     Hour     Minute     Second
    19     94     06     07     5     10     43
    The 19th century began on January 1, 1801 and ended on December 31, 1900. So the year 1994 has to be 20th century and not 19th century, but its confusing why it is stored in the database as 19th century.
    Please let me know whether i am asking a correct question and please correct me if i am wrong.

    -SatheeshNot exactly:
    Century and year components are stored in 'excess 100 format', which means that 100 must be deducted from the byte's value. If a negative number results, then we've got a BC date at which point we take the absolute number. Also, to avoid ever having a zero byte, 1 is added to the hour, minute and second bytes. Therefore, 1 must be detected to get the correct value.
    So 07-Jun-1994 5:10:43 PM is stored in the database as
    Century     Year     Month     Day     Hour     Minute     Second
    119     194     06     07     18     11     44SY.

  • Basic connection of data of oracle express with oracle BPA suite

    hello,
    by this means I ask for its aid to be able to solve the following problem, have oracle express edition and business process architect besides business process to publisher and need that both connect to the base of express edition,
    can help me? ,
    thank you very much

    If you want to load HTML file content as structured data, you have 2 basic choices.
    If the HTML is XHTML compliant, then you can process it using the XML functions and XDB features of Oracle. The likelihood that it conforms to XHTML is slight though - very few web systems and services (to my knowledge) dish up XHTML. And plain HTML is not compliant.
    The 2nd choice - well, a dirty one as you will need to find some kind of method to change HTML data into structured data. You can use a HTML parser that builds a HTML DOM - Gecko can be used for example. However, this is not a trivial exercise.
    So instead you can also look at creating code that specifically support the HTML content that you need to process (these should use a static formatting model for the same page types). You can use string processing (Perl, lex, awk, regex, etc) to extract the usable data content from the HTML file and then load that into Oracle as structured data.
    Whatever the method - if not XHTML, then you can expect a fair deal of complexity loading structured data from HTML content.

    Hi,
    The correct code for insert blobs must be writed like this:
    try
    env=Environment::createEnvironment(Environment::OBJECT);
    connPool = env->createConnectionPool(userName, password,
    database, minConn, maxConn, incrConn);
    conn=connPool->createConnection(userName,password);

    Blob blobRequest;
    blobRequest.setEmpty(conn);
    Blob blobResponse;
    blobResponse.setEmpty(conn);
    stmt = conn->createStatement("BEGIN STORE_REQUEST(:1,:2); END;");
    stmt->setBlob(1,blobRequest);
    stmt->setBlob(2,blobResponse);
    stmt->executeUpdate();
    //2.Select Blobs for update and commit
    stmt2 = conn->createStatement("SELECT REQUEST,RESPONSE FROM STORE WHERE ID=:ID FOR UPDATE");
    stmt2->setString(1,id.c_str());
    ResultSet *rs = stmt2->executeQuery();
    if(rs->next())
    blobRequest = rs->getBlob(1);
    blobRequest.write((unsigned int)bytesOut, req_buffer, (unsigned int)bytesOut);
    blobResponse = rs->getBlob(2);
    blobResponse.write((unsigned int)bytesAckOut, resp_buffer, (unsigned int)bytesAckOut);

  • Data moving between Oracle 10g with CLOB fields

    Hi all,
    I have a trouble in migrate data between Oracle 10g with different platform. The worst thing is that I don't have a DBA account for the DB importing data. I think I can't use IMP or IMPDP in this way. So I seek help from sql developer, but it seems having another problem with CLOB data moving.
    Re: EA2 : SQL Developer 1.5 : export data CLOB columns
    in the thread, I found someone wrote this:
    - SQL Developer v1.5 EA2 - exports first 4000 chars (which is anyway too small for me, because my CLOBs are larger - if they were smaller, I would have made them VARCHAR2s instead!).
    I would like to ask:
    1, What SQL Developer v1.5 EA2 is? Is it the Data Modeling one?
    2, How to export table data with CLOB with SQL Developer v1.5 EA2? Since 4000 chars is enough for me to use.
    OR any other method to export CLOB but not IMP / IMPDP ?
    Now I am using the spool of sqlplus to export CLOB.
    Many thanks,

    1. The EAs are Early Adapters, betas, so you should expect the same behaviour from the latest 1.5.4 production release.
    2. Exports can be done with the Database Export tool, through the table's context menu in the navigator tree or the result grid's context menu.
    Have fun,
    K.

  • How to migrate MS SQL Server OLAP data to Oracle 10g OLAP

    Hi,
    Anyone has any idea on whether migration workbench can migrate my MS SQL Server OLAP data to Oracle 10g (with OLAP option) ?
    Best Regards,
    Ian Ho

    Ian,
    What exactly do you mean by SQL*Server OLAP ? Is it just a 'normal' SQL*Server database which is used for an OLAP application ?
    The migration workbench migrates schema objects, triggers, and stored procedures and is not concerned with the application that uses those objects.
    And the same with the Oracle OLAP database. Once the data etc has been moved into the database you can then use it for whichever application you want.
    If you have concerns apart from moving the actual data then please give us more details.
    Regards,
    Mike

  • Passing data from Oracle stored procedures to Java

    We're going to write a new web interface for a big system based on Oracle database. All business rules are already coded in PL/SQL stored procedures and we'd like to reuse as much code as possible. We'll write some new stored procedures that will combine the existing business rules and return the final result dataset.
    We want to do this on the database level to avoid java-db round trips. The interface layer will be written in Java (we'd like to use GWT), so we need a way of passing data from Oracle stored procedures to Java service side. The data can be e.g. a set of properties of a specific item or a list of items fulfilling certain criteria. Would anyone recommend a preferable way of doing this?
    We're considering one of the 2 following scenarios:
    passing objects and lists of objects (DB object types defined on the schema level)
    passing a sys_refcursor
    We verified that both approaches are "doable", the question is more about design decision, best practice, possible maintenance problems, flexibility, etc.
    I'd appreciate any hints.

    The reason if Down the line any thing changes then you only need to change the arguments of sys_refcursor in DB and as well as java side, and it is much easier and less efforts compare to using and changes required for Types and Objects on DB and java side.
    The design and best practise keeps changing based on our requirement and exisiting design. But by looking at your current senario and design, i personally suggest to go with sys_refcursor.

  • Is it possible to retrieve data from an Oracle db with an LDAP query?

    Our application uses an LDAP query to retrieve data from Microsoft Active Directory. Is it also possible to retrieve data from an Oracle database with an LDAP query?

    if you have Oracle Internet Directory, you will retrieve with ldapsearch data, which are physically stored in the database. But to select * from emp where ename='SCOTT', it is probably not possible.
    At least I have never heard of such a product which translate ldap query in sql query. But feel free to write your own one in perl :-)

  • Problem when trying to refresh oracle screens with latest data

    hello experts,
    i have one problem,i want to refresh the oracle screen with the latest data from the data
    base.
    It is a two stage process.At first step one user will select a row from the screen and then he will press a button .
    now the second screen will appear and the detail of the employee will be displayed.
    First step has been completed and the data is coming in the second form via parameters and i can see the full information of the employee.
    Now i want to refresh the oracle form i.e. suppose if my dba has made any changes in the oracle table( EMP table) i want that after pressing the refresh button user can see the
    latest data from the database.
    in WHEN_BUTTON_PRESSED trigger i have written this codes.
    enter_query;
    execute_query;
    but they are not giving the expected result.
    And one more thing please suggest whether in the second form i should use database item
    or non database item.
    When i am using database item when i am trying to close second from one pop up is appearing
    and asking that whether i want to save the changes.
    please suggest how can i remove this message from my application.
    Regards
    Anutosh

    Hi,
    what data did you transfer via parameters to the second form ?
    how did you populate the datablock in the second form ?
    Typical solution would be:
    (For my example the block is both forms is named EMP, and is based on the table SCOTT.EMP)
    In Form 1, transfer the primary key-value of the current record to a global or parameter (will use global in my example):
    e.g. you have a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED-Trigger with the following code:
    <pre>
    :GLOBAL.EMPNO:=:EMP.EMPNO;
    CALL_FORM('FORM2');
    </pre>
    In Form 2, you have a WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE-Trigger with code:
    <pre>
    DEFAULT_VALUE('GLOBAL.EMPNO', NULL);
    IF :GLOBAL.EMPNO IS NOT NULL THEN
    GO_BLOCK('EMP');
    EXECUTE_QUERY;
    :GLOBAL.EMPNO:=NULL;
    END IF;
    </pre>
    On block EMP in Form 2 there is a PRE-QUERY-Trigger with following code:
    <pre>
    IF :GLOBAL.EMPNO IS NOT NULL THEN
    :EMP.EMPNO:=:GLOBAL.EMPNO;
    END IF;
    </pre>
    And at last, in your refresh-button would be the following code:
    <pre>
    :GLOBAL.EMPNO:=:EMP.EMPNO;
    GO_BLOCK('EMP');
    EXECUTE_QUERY;
    :GLOBAL.EMPNO:=NULL;
    </pre>
    Hope this helps

  • Unable to Connect Oracle 7 with Data Services 3.2

    Hi All,
    I am incredibly facing an issues with Oracle 7 connecting with Data Services 3.2. with Native client drivers (TNS Names).
    The client legacy application is on Oracle 7, they are moving the data from legacy to SAP ECC. My role is to transfer the data from Oracle 7 to SAP ECC, We are using Data Services 3.2 for conversion. This Data Services 3.2 is not connecting with Oracle 7 by using oracle native drivers (TNS Names).
    I am able to connect Oracle 8 client with SQL *Plus, but with Data Services its not connecting, I am able create Data Store but when try to import the table the error message I am getting like "ORA-24316: Illegal handle Type"
    Is there any other solution for this to connect, or Is Data Services 3.2 will not connect to Oracle 7 since its older version.
    Please reply with your thoughts, or with some solution.
    Appreciate your prompt reply. Many thanks.

    Hi Paul,
    Currently I am using ODBC connection to read the data from legacy Oracle7, but ODBC is very very slow, queries are taking hours to fetch the data. Is there any other solution by chance... I read that DataDirect is the one can connect to any versions of oracle and its bit faster, is that true. Please clarify me. If that is the solution where can I get this DataDirect drivers for oracle 7? Please advice me.
    Thank  You,

When I run the report and generate xml file the values for those columns(datatype number) are showing as (*) character, other columns are showing fine. But when I run the report as text output then data is fine. I don't understand why this is happening.
    The property of column is Column Type - Database Scalar, Datatype - Number , width 0,-127.
    Does the width has to do anything with this?

  • Problems with special characters uploading data into oracle database

    Greetings
    I have a problem uploading data into oracle tables from sybase datasource. The data that I want to upload is in Spanish, for example when I have a varchar field with the data 'Consultoría', in oracle table the data upload with interrogation symbols.
    I have my source and target datastores configured as follows.
    Any suggestion? Thank you for your time

    Chack section 10 Locales and Multi-byte Functionality in the SAP Data Services Reference Guide for an exhaustive description of NLS settings.
    As a summary, following settings are required:
    locales in the datastore definitions match the actual locale used in the associated databases
    the locale of the DS engine allows for source to target translation
    the character set in the target database supports storage of accented characters
