STORING E-MAILS AWAY FROM .mail

I want to change my ISP but realise that if I do so I will lose all my e-mails. I have been using Mac's .mail for at least three years and have nearly 10,000 e-mails on my G4 PowerBook. (I know this sounds like madness) I have backed everything up on an Iomega external HD, but this will not prevent loss of e-mails) I search these e-mails constantly and do not want to lose any of them. I do not mind how long the process takes, but how can I shift ALL of them? Is there a way in which I can purchase a domain name and do it this way? Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thankyou.

That's good news - I think we're getting somewhere!
The thread I actually meant was this one:

I was suggesting you follow the advice given by bdaqua since it seemed to work for the original poster who was having problems very like yours. However I can't vouch for any of this so I would advise you to proceed with caution and at very least first make a copy of that "Mail" folder as described in the Apple support document before you do anything you're not sure of.
In fact before you do any of that I would suggest that you try this.
Download "Thunderbird" - it's a free e-mail program from Mozilla who make the Firefox web browser and are a trustworthy source. Here's the link:
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/
Once you have installed it it will allow you to import e-mails from Apple's "Mail" application.
If it does so successfully and you can set it up you may just want to stick with it.
(Personally I've never got on with "Mail" but that's maybe just me!)
You can't download "Mail" you would need to reinstall from your original OSX disc and then almost certainly replace your e-mails from the backed-up original folder.
So in summary here's my advice in order of preference:
1) Download "Thunderbird" and import from "Mail" - see how you like it. If you're OK with it stop right here! If you're still wedded to using "Mail" then continue....
2) Back up your Mail folder in the Library. (did you ever sort out your Iomega drive I wonder??)
3) If you feel up to it try the bdaqua solution - if it works you can then try reverting to "Mail" if you prefer it.
Above all now that we have established that your messages aren't lost BACK UP THE MAIL FOLDER!!!!!

  • Sending e-mail away from home

When I'm away from home I can't send e-mail from my MacBook Air. For ex if I try to send from a hotel room while on their internet. I receive mail but can't send out.

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) sends mesages; it communicates over several ports (25 & 587 being common). It is not uncommon for these ports to be blocked if you are using a public internet connection, like at a cafe or from a hotel's public wireless network.
If the email account you are trying to send from is a webmail account, like gmail or yahoo, you can simply use the webmail interface as opposed to using Mac's mail client (mail.app).
It's more likely that you are trying to send from a work email. If this is the case, your work should be providing you with some means to connect to the internet other than using public wi-fi, for example a Virtual Private Network (VPN), or small 4G modem.
In any event, sending mail from a non-public network should solve your problem. Most smart phones can be used as mobile hotspots - often free of charge. Often times the app comes pre-installed.

  • Sending pop and other mail away from home...

WHen i am away from my home it seems like i can only send email through MAIL with my .mac account. it never goes through with my optonline accounts or my gmail or AOL which are all connected through mail. i can get incoming mail anywhere but can only send .mac mail from anywhere.
is there a reason for that.?

Yes -- when you are away from home, and connected, you are subject to the restrictions and policies of the ISP of that venue, and they are, as is common, blocking the use of other SMTP. Usually such locations permit you to use an Authenticated SMTP, however, which smtp.mac.com is one. With the Authenticated SMTP, the local ISP will relay because this Authentication tells them you are a known and approved sender for the provider of the SMTP.
We need to check some things in Mail Preferences for the selection of each account's Outgoing Server, after clicking on Server Settings below the name of the SMTP seen at Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information for each account you have. Please review them, and report the Port number assigned to each.
The smtp.mac.com, for example, can only be used when sending from the .mac address.
Since, as best I remember from other topics, the optonline SMTP is not separately Authenticated, then you will likely never be able to send with it when at other venues. When not separately authenticated (something that may be a required setting) the name of the optonline SMTP will NOT have your username appended. Those SMTP that are authenticated by Password WILL have your Username appended to the full name listed.
    More info, please.

  • Moving mail data from mail to Outlook for Mac.

I am moving old PC mail data (outlook 2007) to Mac. I used the mac mover, which was great but...  it has moved my old mail data to mac mail.  I am trying to export that data now (on the mac mail) to then import into Outlook for Mac, but not getting anywhere?  Outlook support says it will import the data as a mac export txt file, but whenever i try and import Outlook can not see the file.
I have also tried to just export the mail data from one mac users mail app to another and that is also not working.  Import mail function reports format error, even though it is from the same version of mail on the same machine.
any suggestion, links to info much appriciated.

  • Mail "import" from MAIL

My old imac died so I removed the hard drive and have mostly succesfully ported everything to an old mini. The one issue i have is with MAIL. I have copied over everything and placed them all in the right place but MAIL cannot see the old accounts, settings or mail in the accounts. I don't mind re-doing the settings but I would like to retrieve my old mail. MAIL's wizard sort of offers to import but it doesn't offer MAIL as an mail app to import from? If I switch to another mail app, will it import>? Thanks.

Hi, if you can see the top Mail folder on the other drive...
Mail>File>Import>Mail from OSX, choose the top Mail folder, wat for it to read all of it, then you'll be given choices of which boxes to Import.

  • Copying and Pasting E-Mail addresses from Mail To, From, CC Fields

In previous versions of Mail, you could copy an e-mail address from the To, From, or CC fields and past it into a document. In Mail 4.0 (mad 4.1), when you do this, the address shows up just as it appears in the field from which it was copied.
Here's an example. First, the address as it appears in the From field:
    (1) John Smith <[email protected]>
Earlier versions of Mail would allow you to select this address, copy it and paste it as
    (2) [email protected]
Now, however, you get the whole thing as in (1), a real nuisance if all you want is the e-mail address itself. Two questions. First, rhetorically, why would anyone want to make this change? Second, is there any way to persuade Mail to revert to its earlier behavior?

  • HT2500 how do e mail merge from mail

How can i do e mail merge from my mac

Something is not quite right here. A MacBook Air does not run any version of IOS, and would you per chance be using OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite instead?
In Excel, export your Christmas addresses as a comma separated value (CSV) file.
In OS X Contacts, make a new contact group — let's call it Christmas 2014. Click on this group to make it current. Then from Contacts > File > Import, select your CSV file from the import file chooser. Your Christmas list of contacts are now generated within the new contact group: Christmas 2014. This may be an imperfect process, and may require you to clean up some of these contacts.
In Contacts > File > Print, you can pick your Avery address label sheet stock number, pick the Christmas 2014 distribution, sort these contacts alphabetically, and print up your labels. Your labels will appear in the large display box in this print dialog. I am excluding this in the screen capture.

    Ramesh,
To paraphrase [url http://asktom.oracle.com]Tom Kyte, "holy unreadable code, Batman!"
Code is much more readable if you put "[ code ]" and "[ /code ]" (without the spaces and quotes) around your code samples.
Seems to me this would be a function of how the email server you are connecting to works - perhaps there is a folder called "Sent Items" or "Drafts" that you can use in this line (note the code tags ;) :
Folder fldr = store.getFolder("INBOX");Not sure if this is possible via POP, but it is in IMAP. Hint: use google and search for:
    javax.mail "sent items"
you'll get some helpful information. Nothing to do with JDeveloper here.

  • Can't delete mail account from Mail

    Hello -
Am new to OS X Server.
I bought a MacMini server and have been fiddling with various settings, learning how best to deploy it in my business. Once I feel comfortable, I am planning to wipe it and start a fresh.
But at the moment, on my MBP, I have two identical IMAP accounts in Mail - both linked to the mail service on the server. I can delete one of them - but it reappears a few moments later. The second one reappears instantly.
I have "Unlinked" my MBP with the server in logon options under preferences - but this doesn't seem to help.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can delete them?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Identical problem
    - Mail service automatically configured [email protected] I allowed this in response to server's invitation. I had one local server mail account under Mail 4.1 and disabled it, instantly creating two more that I can't disable because the "Save" responds that the path (/Users/Me/Library/Mail/[email protected]) is taken. And when "-" removing them they instantly reappear. I can remove two and tell the last one not to get mail but unchecking "Enable" and save (only by leaving that account) only makes all three instantly reappear.
    - In Server Preferences, for each user, I can't turn off Mail service. Gear spin flashes. Checkbox stays off but switch to another user and back and it's checked Mail again. Deleting the Contact Info > Contact > jabber and email still won't let you uncheck Mail.
    - In Server Preferences clicking on User then Group then User again accounts started disappearing. User gone, another, all gone. Then can't run Server Preferences because it can't log in. "There may be a problem with the Open Directory Service." Restart server again. All back. Still can't uncheck Mail service.

  • My notes went away from mail on icloud

    Anyone else have this problem?

Same here! I am not able to find notes on icloud anymore. Strange enough they are there on my iphone.
At first I thought it's just me but looks like there is a systematic issue.
Word of caution! Backup your iphone to your PC ASAP....... if apple is unable to help recovering it on icloud backup is your best bet.
Now back to the issue.... how do we get them back on icloud? I am scratching my head. Am I still a novice to apple and just don't know where in the cloud I hid the notes only if its me!
Will icloud team help? How do we escalate this to them?

    Hi  Expert,
Presently  i am sending  a mail to approver of PO to external ID to inform that he has received a workitem in SAP in Box please login into SAP system and Approve the PO....
But now requirment has changed .
They need  this workitem in attachment of the mail i am sending to approver. approver click on that attachment it automaticly direct to sap system to the transaction ME21N to approve PO.
Please guide to achive the new requirment..
    Deepanker Dwivedi

There are two ways of doing this stuff...if you are running on WAS 6.4 or above then use second one.
    First method:-
Schedule the program RSWUWFML2 as per your requirement. This will route the workitem links to the external mail id like outlook from user can log into sap and approve or reject the workitem. The SCOT should be configured to send and recieve external mails.
    Second Method:-
U can use extended notifications for approving the workiten from the outlook or any other extrenal mail id.
The basic configuration required is expalined in these two links

I have stored e-mails in their special folders in Mail.  On returning to them, the e-mail addresses and titles are still there but th e-mail text has disappeared.
    What has happened?

    Do a backup.
Try rebuilding the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

  • How do I delete my g-mail account from Mail on my iPhone?

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 8.1.3.  I've had my g-mail account on it until today.  My g-mail account had been hijacked.  I reset my password and disabled the account.  Now, even if I activate the account again I cannot enter my new password.  I tried to find a way to delete the account completely and start over, but I can't seem to find the right way.  Any help?  Step by step would help a great deal.

  • Some mail sent from Mail is not being received or sent

I am losing mail, both received and sent, intermittantly. It definitely involves my .Mac email account but I don't know if it involves others. A friend who also has a .Mac account is experiencing the same problem. It does NOT necessarily have to do with any attachments or bcc's. Is anyone else?
    iMac G-5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I have a similar but perhaps unrelated problem. Every now and then, I send an email on my gmail account using Mail. The sent mail appears in my sent box, but never arrives, and does not appear in my webmail sent box (where it usually does, using gmail). Most of the time it works, and it even works most of the time with people it has had a problem with, including mail I send to myself at work at my professional address. Usually arrives...but not always. I don't know how to trust my sent mail box without always going on the webmail to make sure it actually went out. I only have this problem when using the Mail application, but there are no other common characteristics (attachements, ISPs, etc) to say there could be a problem with one of those things. Anyone else have this problem?

  • Can Mail be set up to work while away from home?

When I tried using mail with my powerbook G4, using a free wireless system at the library, I received a message that it needed authentication. Is it possible to use Mail away from home or do I have to use Webmail? I use Comcast broadband at home.

You were exactly right! All it took is going to Mail preferences, clicking on server settings, checking authentication, and adding my user id and password. I tried using the library's WiFi and mail came through.
    Thanks
