Storing imovie projects for re-use

Hi there,
Could anyone tell me the best way to store my imove 06 projects so that in time I can re-use the footage to create and edit movies later?
I have imported my video footage into projects using imovie. Each project only contains footage for the topic. I.e birthday party, concert, holiday e.t.c.
My question is what is the best way to store these projects so I can use them later to make movies through idvd? My hard drive is filling up.
I am new to a mac computer so if possible could you use an easy description.

You can but they don't compress a lot.
I just did a ~210MB file and it compressed down to ~170MB.
In the Finder, go to the file, right click - *Create archive*.
You can also burn these to a data DVD.

  • Why doesn't my imovie project for ipod touch go to my computer's iTunes when i hit the option "share with iTunes"? I need iTunes to have the project so I can format it in a video converter. Can anyone help?

I downloaded Imovie to my Ipod touch (I don't have a Mac computer/laptop) so that I can edit a project for school video assignment. I have editted the video, but I can't figure out how to make it go to Itunes. I need it there so that I can put it into a video converter for projection to my class. The problem is, I don't know how to get Itunes to recognize that there is a project made. Imovie (at least the mobile version) has a "share with Itunes" feature, which I found. When I use this feature... nothing happens on the itunes end. Does anyone know why this is and have a solution?

This is what the iMovie Help says:

Is that the procedure you've been following?

  • Saving iMove projects for later edit by PC users

I've been converting a lot of VHS tapes to DVD for friends and family using iMovie and iDVD. Lately, I've been getting asked if I can simply hand over the digitized files to them for editing on their computers with their video editing software. What's the best way to save an iMovie project to disc for people with PCs (or Macs) so that they can edit and create their own DVD?

As Karsten said, the most foolproof method is to give them tape.
I don't know what kind of video files PC editing apps can import. Looking from the Mac side, a DV-stream (.dv) would be the most convenient format because iMovie can readily export it. The downside is that all scenes would be stuffed in a single file (unless the user exported each scene separately) and it would be up to the PC app/user to re-split the scenes into clips.
Another tempting format would be a DV-encoded .avi. But then you should remember that due to a bug in iMovie HD, it can't properly export it.
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~shmhav/iMovieHD_6_bugs.html#expertsettings
So you should then use a workaround and use apps like MPEG Streamclip to export the iMovie project as a DV-AVI.
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~shmhav/SVCDon_a_Macintosh.html#imovie_3rdparty
The latest MPEG Streamclip beta has a Save as... -command which AFAIK should wrap a .dv file as DV-AVI (choose AVI from the pop-up).
...but as I said, I don't know how the PC apps handle these formats.

  • Can imovie projects be shared using lion server

Want to store iMovie projects and events on HDD (mybook studio edition) and work on projects from multiple macs. The HDD is connected to a time capsule and currently iMovie cannot see it.

"iMovie 6 still works on OS X Mountain Lion without any problem"
    Hooray. Glad it will work.
    Thanks for the rapid reply.

  • Best way to archive projects for future use

I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS4,but this is a more generic question.  I shoot videos that people want to save for a long time.  I burn my projects to DVD's (or Blue-ray discs if the client does not mind the cost).  DVD's can be destroyed, lost, wear out.  What is the best way to preserve these memories?  I know that some people charge the client and use a dedicated external hard drive for each project.  What technique is not too expensive, but will last the longest?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

OK, I meant to tack this question with my last one, my client wants me to take her 1 hour video and compress it to a format that she can store/watch on her own hard drive.  What format would retain audio and video quality best, and not be enormous and still be able to run on a computer (ie not burned to a DVD or Blu-ray Disc)?
    Second part to this question:
one of my projects is 5 years old - not done on a external hard drive - which means that I can no longer access the project for conversion purposes.  What choices do I have  if I only have a DVD disc to convert to a file that can play/be stroed on a computer?
    Thanks

  • Convert iMovie project for Media Player?

I need to send my iMovie project to some Windows users who only have Media Player. How do I convert my file? I cannot use MobileMe or YouTube as ultimately, the movie will need to be added to a company newsletter.

I should have said this is my first iMovie project. I am only seeing size options when I select Export Movie. I do see an option export as an mpeg when I select Export Using Quicktime. Also .avi. I'm on my work network on a different computer, so I'll see what happens when I send those formats to my work email.
I went to the ffmpeg site, but how to download the application was not clear to me. Honestly, I'm not a tech expert and all of the explanations about the package, upgrades, patches, etc. were foreign to me.

  • Cannot find iMovie Project for iOS after sending to iTunes 12.0.1

I made a video on the iMovie iOS app but wanted to finish editing the project on my mac.  Went online and googled how to get the file from the iPhone to my mac.  This is the link I found: iMovie '11: Import an iMovie project from an iOS device.
My problem lies in step # 5: Tap Apps at the top of the iTunes window, and then tap iMovie in the Apps pane on the left, below File Sharing. The shared project appears on the right in the iMovie Documents pane. I went into the most updated iTunes I have which is showing as 12.0.1.
I cannot locate File Sharing anywhere.  I also cannot find any recent posts or support threads that address this.  I couldn't find any images in a google search that even showed iTunes in the layout I have.  I'm hoping this is a simple issue to fix.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Best way to export iMovie project for editing

I am creating an iMovie project in iMovie 09 with a friend. I have part of the movie and he has the other part (basically I have put together a lot of the video and some transitions, and he is going to put in some music he created and add a couple of other cool things). I have created my part of the movie and I would like to send the project to him so that he can add his part to finish the movie. I am not sure what the best method is to save my iMovie project so that I can sent it to him. I don't want to export it to something he can't work with on his end.
I am thinking that if I save the project as a QuickTime movie it will allow him to open open the file in iMovie and then he can add his stuff. I was also thinking about ways of exporting to mp4 format as I know this is a format that iMovie likes, and he could open this up in iMovie. I wasn't sure, though, how to make sure I save the movie project as a mp4.
Do you all have any thoughts or suggestions on this?
    Thanks,
    Tim

I don't think I have the answer, but if you don't mind I'm going to drop into your discussion because I have a similar issue and am interested in any solution someone may give you. I have a couple of iMovie project files because, like you, I have two people working seperately, and I just want to combine them as a single project.
I was able to move both projects to one computer by moving the iMovie projects to an external hard drive and then opening them both up from the same computer. That solution probably doesn't solve your issue, though.

  • Exporting imovie project for windows pc

    Hi-
I created a project using imovie and exported it so I could put it on a website. It looks great on my mac but it won't play on a windows pc. I exported it by choosing "Export: to Quicktime" and "Formats:Web". It saved it as a .mov file and also created several large DV Movie files. The DV Movie files would take forever to upload to the webhosting site server but the .mov file took a few seconds. What am I doing wrong? Help! Thanks.
    15" laptop G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hello-
I'm using imovie 3.0.3 The mov file is 44kb. When you call it up on a pc, it says it needs the "fade in" file and goes on to say it needs all the clip files and other fades I put in. I did see that on the older project I did a couple of years ago for the same website, the clip and fade files that were uploaded were "kb" in size, not the original "mb" sizes. There was a way to export it so the file sizes were smaller and it played on both a mac and pc...but I can't remember. Would exporting it as a "self-contained" movie do the trick? The self-contained movie I created is 1.1 GB. It will take quite a while to upload...but I wonder if that would work?

  • Project for web using the program Director 11

I have a project, a game for kids, that want to run on a web site. I developed it, originally to use it in the computer. But now, I want to migrate it to a web site (the game´s web site), the kids will play it on line. The idea is to have a web site and in the web site an option to play it on line, by clicking that option, the game will start (in order to play it, you have to pay a fee).-
So, I published it for web (I click the option ".html", saved it and published it). I downloaded the "Adobe shockwave Player", installed it and everything, opened the project (wich is in my computer) using a browser, and works perfectly.-
But .... I uploaded to a hosting and doesn´t work.-
    My question is:
What should I do in order to run perfectly the project on line (having the project in the hosting ...). The hosting should have a special requirements? Should I program the icon that opens the project in a special way?? The project should be in a different (new) window when the persons click the icon?
I will appreciate all the information and help about it!!!!

I have taken a quick look at you site.
yes, I am seeing your problem
sometimes says 'unable to find '***.dir"    not .drc?
also some of the pathnames had capital letters in them - which might make a difference.
    an example:-
    Director Player Error
    Unable to open file "http://www.mggim.com.ar/pantallaFinal.dir"
It seems that your site is cut into many different .dcr programs.
I'll take a longer look at them - and get back to you...
I normally inbed my '.dcr' files (linked - to the file stright from the web) into my main controlling program - then I do a 'preLoadNetThing' routine, to make sure it's preloaded before I jump to it.
    ( I use the file > import > internet > "File URL: http://www.mggim.com.ar/lola.dcr" )
But their are a few different ways to control shockwave files
I'm going to do a test and see if you can jump to another 'dcr' file without preloading it, or inbedded it first.

  • Imovie export for fullscreen use on ipad

I'm trying to produce an imovie '09 movie for use exclusively on an IPAD using full screen mode (as opposed to letterbox). All the backgrounds in imovie are designed for widescreen and ken burns effects cannot be used without imovie forcing the cropping of the photo. (i.e., I can't use ken burns for anything other than widescreen. In addition, even though cropped photo's appear ok in the imovie preview and when displayed on the mac, they are cropped even further on the IPAD.
Is there a thread or some other resource that someone can refer to me so that I can get cropping to work for the IPAD display.

My kids used the web search for "cool maths games" and tried to load a game. The page went to the game but did not load . It said " if this flash game does not work on you computer go HERE for help" it took us to another page with instructions to upgrade flash and there was another hyperlink
That I went ADOBE FLASH PLAYER site and it said that iPad does not support flash, but there was an advertisement under it saying it works on iPad. I clicked on that and downloaded the adobe app

  • Storing downloaded movies for later use.

I'm being deployed, and would like to purchase some movies to take with me. Unfortunatly the laptop I'll br taking does not have a lot of hard disk space.
Can I download movies to, or transfer them to either a cd-r/rw or a dvd using my desk top or to a cd media using the Toshiba laptop for future viewing on the laptop? Erasing and transfering the movie files as necessary.
    Thank you
    Col Mom

You can back up your video files and then reload them to a properly authorized computer later. You just can't burn them to a DVD for playing on a standard DVD player.
    Best of luck.

  • Storing photo ink for later use

What's the proper way to store the Vivera ink cartridges when not in use?  Right side up, upside down?  I have it in a small Tupperware container which seals tightly.

It is a photo cartridge #99 for Officejet 6310 All -in-One.  Is a humidor the black plastic "holder?"  What about the tape that covers the print head--replace for storage or toss?
Yes, you should use the black plastic holder and store with the nozzles facing down.  Toss the tape once it is removed, if you try to reapply the tape it will cause color misssing (or in the case of the #99 cartridge, black mixing into gray) which will ruin the cartridge.

  • I get error message "user parameter list" is stopping me from preparing a iMovie project for export.

I am trying to share a 1 hour movie via idvd. I keep getting an error message saying user parameter list is preventing publishing. What do I need to change?

    Bartirn,
I called Apple under my Mac support contract.  They were completely unfamiliar with the error you and I were encountering.   Updating to 10.8.5 didn't help.
I'm stopping my TimeCapsule while I perform these tasks, but I don't know yet if I have a consistent work-around.

  • Need help with lost iMovie project.

I was creating an iMovie project for school and needed to save it on a USB, so I clicked on 'Export Movie' from the 'Share' options menu in iMovie. I chose the type I wanted it saved in (viewing for computers) and then a smaller screen in iMovie popped up saying it was exporting the movie, or something like that. It took about a good 30 minutes and my project was a 7 minute movie with film clips, music, transitions, ect. I exported this project to my USB but when it finished it wasn't on there and when I finally found it on the Mac somewhere, I went to drag it into my USB but it said it was full. I then dragged the project onto my desktop and tried to open it to see if it worked. When I did the iMovie icon jumped once and stopped. I clicked on iMovie and it was still there in the projects screen. I then decided to close iMovie and open the project again from my desktop to see if it would play like a normal movie but once I clicked it the iMovie icon jumped again, opened but my project that I was trying to open was not there anymore and wouldn't open from my desktop file. I cannot open it at all and view it, it has been lost from my iMovie. Is there a way that I can get it back? Really need some help with this.

What version of iMovie are you using?
