Storing Library on server - Windows Server 2008

I've done a ton of reading on this and supposedly on version 3.01 this feature was added.
I downloaded the latest trial and still cannot create/move the library to a share. First off, please no comments about how its not meant to be stored on a server, how its slow, etc. I have 35K photo's that we share, this is not professional by any means but we have 2 Mac's we want to share the library between and we're a MS developer so we have a Win2K8 server. I'm not looking for speed but convenience.
First thought is that it will not allow the library to save onto an NTFS partition so I'm looking into getting my server to mount maybe an external drive or NAS that strictly has our photo's on it that is a GUID partition.
I've tried to copy the library but when opening it get Unsupported File System.
Is this a Aperture problem or a problem because I have NTFS? I'll invest in a NAS that the Mac will support with a native file system is necessary but obviously running it on my server would be ideal.
Right now I've only tried this with the 3.03 trial on both computers, no luck on either.
Thanks

Success!
Aperture will not work unless the communication protocol is AFP. Windows Server 2003 does have an AFP client however it has a lot of limitations like a 31 character file name and only 65K files per volume. My original idea was to virtualize a Win2K3 server but I found ExtremeZ-IP.
It is a application for all versions of Windows that will mimic your SMB shares in AFP. I was able to mirror my SMB shares as AFP complete with AD login integration.
I had to add the AFP virtual server name to my DNS but once I did that Aperture worked no problem on the same share I had before.

Windows Server is Windows, but the Server OS. SharePoint runs on top of supported Windows Servers editions (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx).
SharePoint Server is 64-bit only (trial:

You will need the capability to run 64bit VMs. Minimum recommended all-in-one VM for SharePoint is to allocate 24GB of RAM, but you can get away with as little as 12GB (I wouldn't go below that). Because of this, it generally rules out 32bit OSes as a virtual
    machine host.

To be honest, the quickest thing you could do (and what I would do regardless) is re-build the server (re-install Windows).

  • The restor pocess did not succeed because your computer cannot connect to the server - Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Experience

    Hi all
I've been running Windows Server 2012 R2 with the Essentials Experience in test for a Windows 8.1 client environment, on an HP ProLiant MicroServer N54L. Overall I've found the Essential Experience set-up over WHS2011 and WHSv1 okay; still looking to extract
any real value over the former versions.
This box has been up and running for a few months now, with client backups of a Win 8.1 box scheduled and running successfully every day. However when trying to conduct any file restores from the backups, to the client, I receive an error dialog once I go
    through motions from the Dashboard:
On the 'Devices' tab, right-click the appropriate client and select 'Restore files or folders for the computer'
'Restore Files of Folders' dialog pops up, asking me to 'Choose a backup' from the list of all the backups that have run
Select any one in the list - have tried numerous backups; automatic, manual, etc. same result every time
Brings up the dialog to 'Choose a volume', choose either C: or D: partitions of the same fixed drive - again, no difference which one I choose, the outcome is the same
'Opening the volume' dialog starts, with progress bar, runs to about 4% complete the pops up the dialog 'The restore process did not succeed'. Full error in the dialog, "The restore process did not succeed because your computer cannot connect to the
server. Make sure that the computer is connected to the networkm and then try again
If my computer cannot connect to the server - how can I get that far? How can I open the dashboard, select a client, select from a list of backups, select a volume to restore, etc. What is going on here?

  • IPhoto Library migration to windows server

    Hello!
I know this has been discussed but I was unable to find it again.
Due to my massive amount of pictures, I have run out of space on my iMac's internal hard drive.
I would like to move my iPhoto library over to my Home Server which runs Windows Home Server (Go figure)
When I try to do such a thing it says invalid file format?
SO - 1) is iPhoto capable of doing this?
1a) If not, is Aperture capable?
1b) If Aperture is, how do I accomplish this?
Thank you in advance for any help in this matt

    No.
    No.
    Ergo No.
The iPhoto and Aperture libraries must live on a disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). What you can do is run a Referenced Library, with the Masters stored on the server. For a variety of reasons you really, really don't want to use iPhoto in this configuration. It's pretty straightforward to do this with Aperture's Relocate Masters command - check out the help.

  • Mac OS 10.6 Server & Windows SBS 2008

Hi, I am looking for some suggestions on how best to deal with the following scenario.
We have a Windows 2008 SBS server which is running Sharepoint Services and Exchange 2007 for our business. We also have a Mac Mini Server which we would like to add to the network and use for file sharing/storage, iChat server and Wiki Server.
We currently have three users, all using Mac hardware running 10.6.8. We employ an MCP who is certified in SBS and I am currently an ACSP studying for my Mac Server Essentials 10.6 exam.
From my current knowledge and research I can see that we have 2 options:-
1 Join/bind the two servers together (AD-OD Magic Triangle), however I am concerned that this would be potentially beyond my current abilities, but would give complete integration between the two systems and allow us to add new Mac and Windows clients in the future.
2 Run the two servers on separate domains and duplicate the user information, binding to both domains separately from the clients. Easier to setup but would duplicate user info and could be trickier to add new users and Windows users.
So my question really is what would the more experienced people out there suggest, and have I missed an easier way?
    Thanks in advance.
    Richard.

Thanks for the advice. You've pretty much reinforced what I felt was the best option from the research I've done.
As for expansion/future, we're a new IT support company, focussing on being able to support both Microsoft and Apple platforms. My personal goal is to get to ACSA level, which would include the Open Directory exam which I feel would help with what I am trying to achieve now. Our expansion in terms of the number of clients would almost certainly be using Mac clients and would be a maximum of 2 apprentices and 2 more engineers starting from 6 months time and spread over a 12 to 18 month period. I would imagine that by the time it would be beneficial to have the two domains fully integrated both myself and the Microsoft engineer should be at a level to make it work ourselves. For now I think that setting the two servers up and duplicating the users is the best option, and enables us both to continue training ourselves and supporting the business in the meantime.
Thanks again and the Mac Enterprise Mailing list looks really useful.

  • DHCP server authorisation failure Windows Server 2008

    Hi
Our network: Windows 2008 standard server (domain controller holding all FSMO roles, DHCP, DNS), Windows 2003 standard server (DNS, WINS), domain functional level = 2003. Windows storage server 2008 (file server), Windows server 2012 (WSUS, Remote access).
One site, one 192.168.0.xxx subnet. Mixture of XP and Win 7 clients and one Vista client. None of the servers are multi-homed.
The DHCP server is configured with a scope that assigns addresses between 100 and 200. All the clients (35 of them) have reserved addresses. The 2012 server grabs a block of ten or so addresses for VPN connections. DHCP server also specifies DNS server, router,
time server, domain name, WINS server, NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and WINS node type. Address duration is 6 days.
Clients' DHCP settings are configured as normal, except that APIPA address assignment has been customised so they get an address 192.168.0.2xx and the DNS server is the gateway not the domain controller.
    Last week, everything was fine.
Monday morning and all the Windows 7 clients are unable to browse the network. I checked and saw that each W7 client had the APIPA address assigned. The XP machines were fine.
The DHCP management console snap-in showed the IPV4 node with a red symbol. I restarted the DC but it did not help. The DHCP custom event log under Server Roles has no events at all. In the past there have been startup events present.
When I started the DHCP snap-in it said that the server was not authorised. Selecting the server then clicking the action menu shows an unauthorise option.
The system log has event 1059 logged:
    Log Name:      System

This was followed by event 1044: The DHCP/BINL service on the local machine, belonging to the Windows Administrative domain htlincs.local, has determined that it is authorized to start. It is servicing clients now.
Then event 1059 (above) was repeated.
After 12 minutes event 1044 was repeated, but no other DHCP events have been logged since that time.
I assigned static IP addresses to the clients and they are now able to browse the network
There was just one system change made to the domain controller that hosts DHCP and that was the installation of Netwrix File Server Change Reporter. The installation required a new GPO being created and configured as shown on pp 16/17 of this guide http://www.netwrix.com/download/documents/NetWrix_File_Server_Change_Reporter_Administrator_Guide.pdf.
I uninstalled this program and removed the GPO this morning.
I checked the DHCP server about 3 hours later and the IPV4 node was green. Also, when the snap-in loaded it did not display a message saying that the server needs to be authorised.
Anyone have any idea what may have caused the DHCP server to behave this way? It seems to be OK now (Win 7 clients with DHCP address assignment enabled are OK when restarted), and I wouldn't expect the Netwrix application to have this adverse effect on it.
Also, I don't understand why the Win 7 clients could not simply retain their existing address. Why were the alternate configuration addresses used? I doubt very much that all those machines' address leases had expired by this morning (though, of course, it
    is remotely possible).
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Firstly, thanks for sharing your experience with us and it would be greatly helpful to others who has similar issue.
Based on my knowledge, for a DHCP client it will ask the DHCP server to obtain an IP address firstly. If the DHCP server is not available,
it will be assigned an IP from 169.254.0.0/16 by APIPA. If APIPA is disabled, it will check the alternate configuration to get an IP address. Otherwise, no IP address will be assigned to the client.
Besides, event 1044 is a normal condition
and no further action is required for it. However, the event 1059 is usually due to the connectivity issue between the DC and DHCP server. In addition, it is not recommended to install the DHCP server on a DC.

    Best regards,
    Susie
    Hi, Susie
    Thanks a lot for responding.
I had used the links you provided when I was trying to figure out what had happened. Using ping to test the connectivity from/to the DC worked fine, the XP clients were able to browse the network and connect to the Internet without issue.
My question is why the Windows 7 clients suddenly began using the alternate addresses. I think it too much of a coincidence for their leases to have expired at the same time and for it to not have affected the XP clients.
My point is that DHCP leases addresses for a set period - in our case, 6 days. The clients should contact the DHCP server when 3 days have elapsed and then at regular intervals thereafter. They should not use the alternate configuration address or the APIPA
address unless the lease has expired and they are unable to contact a DHCP server or a DHCP server refuses the request.
In this case they were unable to contact the DHCP server. Connectivity was not an issue while this occurred for the remainder of the clients. As I said, DNS is hosted on the DC that also hosts DHCP. I forgot to mention that the same DC also hosts the DFS
root. It was only the DHCP server that had the issue contacting the DC. DNS was working fine, DFS was working fine. If the DC that hosts these services has any sort of connectivity issues it affects everyone.
I was hoping that someone might be able to help explain why the Win 7 clients behaved as they did so that I could take steps to prevent/minimise this happening in the future.
Regarding the issue of hosting DHCP on a DC, does anyone know if there would be any problems hosting DHCP on a member server that also hosted WSUS and Routing and Remote Access? I have never seen anything that states there might be issues regarding this
but it's best to ask :)
    Thanks again.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - Won't load certain web pages - Happens in all browers - Won't do windows updates

This server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1) is used to host thin clients as well as RDP sessions.  One morning the office is fine, they come back from lunch and all of the sudden they can't load certain web pages, such as adobe.com
and pandora.com to name a couple.  This was roughly 3 days ago.
1.)  I have tried machines that are not connected to this server (not thin client or RDP), but are on the same network, they can load up any web page fine with no issues.
2.) On the server I have tried Opera, Chrome, IE and Firefox, all have the same exact problem.
3.) Tried different DNS servers just to be sure, even though it only effects the server and no one else.
Based on these facts I know that it is something wrong with the server, but not tied to a specific brower.  In all browsers when you load up a page in question it just sits there with a blank screen trying to load, it never generates any errors.
The Event Viewer is also clean, no errors.  So with no errors I have had trouble trying to find a starting place for this.  Things I have tried:
1.) ipconfig /flushdns to try and clear out any DNS issues
2.) Changing the DNS servers for the server to 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.2
3.) Scanning for Viruses and Malware/Spyware
4.) Checking proxy settings on the server
5.) Updating and then removing Adobe Flash (thought it was tied to flash at first).  Problem persists even with no flash player installed.
6.) Completed a failed update of .net, no effect
7.) Loading up browsers in debug mode to try and find anything in the site code that I could relate between failed sites.  I found nothing I could identify
Of all issues to finally be stumped on this seems like an easy one, but I can't even begin to come up with an idea at this point.
I have tried to lay out all of the facts that I know as plainly as I can.  I am hoping that someone has seen this before as this issue is effecting a number of differnt users and keeping them from doing portions of their job.
Help is most appreciated, thank you!

I was able to figure out a solution.
    CAUSE:
It appears that the Internet isn’t fully up to date and ready to use EDns -- which is enabled on Windows Server 2008 R2 by default. The solution for this is to disable Edns. Note that this isn’t
a problem for most Windows Server 2008 R2 member servers.  It’s only a problem for DNS *servers* that do recursive lookups.  i.e. likely only your domain controller will be affected if that is where your DNS Server role exists.
    SOLUTION:
To disable EDns, you can do it from the command prompt, or by editing the registry.
Create a DWORD called EnableEDNSProbes and set to 0 in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\DNS\Parameters
Restart the DNS Server service for it to take effect.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard "Certificate Authority Service" / Exchange Server 2010 EMC not starting and no AD connectivity for authentication.

    Hello,
I am a new IT Manager at this company and need assistance big time. Their environment looks as follows:
Server 1. Domain Controller Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) running active directory.
Server 2. Email Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) running Exchange Server 2010 .
    * Note. No back ups to work with aside from whats mentioned below.
DC had a virus infection causing a lot of issues on the shared network drives 2 days ago locking up all the files with a crypto ransom virus. Running Avast suppressed the infection. Had to recover the file shares which luckily had a back up.
The issue is that the Exchange Server 2 post this lost connectivity with the AD Server 1. Exchange Server 2 when launching EMC could not launch the console stating the following:
"No Exchange servers are available in any Active Directory sites. You can’t connect to remote
Powershell on a computer that only has the Management Tools role installed."
Shortly after I found that it is possible the EMC launcher was corrupt and needed to be reinstalled following another blog post. I deleted the exchange management console.msc  per instructions only to discover I couldnt relaunch it because there was
no way how. So I copied another msc file that happened to be on the DC Server 1  back to Exchange Server 2 and got it to launch again.
Another post said that it might be an issue with the Domain Account for the Computer, so to delete it in the AD Server 1 only to find that rejoining it from Exchange Server 2 using Computer>Properties> Chage Settings > Change is greyed out because
it is using the Certificate Authority Service.
I tried manually re-adding the computer in AD and modeling permissions after another server in group settings but no go. After this I was unable to login to the Exchange Server 2 with domain accounts but only local admin, receiving the following Alert:
"The Trust Relationship between this workstation and primary domain failed."
I tried running the Power Shell tools on Exchange Server 2 to rejoing and to reset passwords for domain accounts as noted in some other blogs but no luck as the Server 2 could not make the connection with Server1 or other errors it kept spitting out.
I also during the investigation found the DNS settings were all altered on both the Server 1 and Server 2 which I luckily was able to change back to original because of inventorying it in the beginning when I started.
I need help figuring out if I need to rejoin the Exchange Server 2 manually by disabling the Certificate Authority Service (or removing the CA as listed here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/fb23deab-0a12-410d-946c-517d5aea7fae/windows-server-2008-r2-with-certificate-authority-service-to-rejoin-domain?forum=winserversecurity
and getting exchange server to launch again. (Mind you I am relatively fresh to server managing) Please help E-Mail has been down for a whole day now!

I have the document of my installation steps and zip file of the installation logs, if you need to take a look.
    Appreciate for any help!

    Hi ntth,
"Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation"
The above error is always related to the Windows account SID mapping. I recommend you login into Windows using another Windows account which has administrative privileges and run SQL Server setup using that Windows account.
Besides, please note that we need to apply SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 or a later update when installing SQL Server Windows Server 2012 R2. For more information, please review this
    KB article.

  • Officejet pro 8600 installation in server windows 2008

    Hello,
Having a problem extracting the 64bit driver provided by HP on our server 2008 R2 standard x64.
Tried the command line execution as well, but no joy. Error page pops up saying it's the wrong
OS or something like that. Have confirmed driver and OS match, but still fails.
Also contacted HP but that turned into a trainwreck as usual. Do they really think non english
speaking people can really assist in this stuff.....Super frustration.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    This question was solved.

  • 10.1.0.2.0 database download link needed for window server 2008 64bit

Here is our plan. We are currently running oracle 10.1.0.2 database on a windowsServer 2003 32 bit.
Now we would like to migrate the database to 10gR2 and run it on our new server windows server 2008 64bit. After doing research, I think I need to go through the following step:
    1) install 10.1.0.2 on our new server,
    2) clone the database using the current back up data on the new server.
    3) install 10gR2 on the new server.
    4) using dbua to upgrade the older database to the new version.
Please let me know whether those steps are correct.
If yes, where can I download 10.1.0.2 version database for 64bit window server 2008?
The only link I can find is http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/index.html
    but 10gR1 not listed.
    Thank you very much!

    Welcome to the forums !
10gR1 is de-supported, hence you will not find any download links. You will have to create an SR to see if Support can mail you the install media.
How big is the database ? One other option you have is to export the 10.1.0.2 database and import into 10gR2 on the new server. This will achieve the upgrade in one step and will not require the intermediate 10.1.0.2 version on the new server.

  • Issue Installing SP2 for Windows Server 2008 SP1

Hello, I have a very annoying issue, and I hope someone can help a bro out.
    Server: Windows Server 2008 SP1 64-bit
Issue: SP2 wont install on Windows Server 2008 SP1
This is what I am seeing when I check the event viewer:
    1. (Information) Windows Servicing is setting package KB948465(Service Pack) state to Staging(Staging)
    2. (Error) Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of changing update 948465-382_neutral_GDR from package KB948465(Service Pack) into Staging(Staging) state
I have no idea why this is coming up, nor why the server cant fix the issue, but now I am forced to deal with it. So if anyone has any helpful tips it would be greatly appreciated.
What I have done so far:
I have downloaded the standalone SP2 file from microsoft, and tried to install, still failed. Just sent me to the prereq page, which is pretty useless considering the fact I already have SP1 installed, and nothing new has changed physically or digitally
    in the system.
Also, although not a huge issue, I also have a security update that is failing, basically with the same issue as the SP. Below is its Error event log.
(Error) Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of changing update 974318-11_neutral_LDR from package KB974318(Security Update) into Staging(Staging) state
Im hoping that upon discovering the SP issue, I can resolve the security update issue, as the errors have the same issue(failed to complete staging state).Thank you for your time.
~I will provide any further info if needed.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction Milos. Yes I ALWAYS google my issues before going on forums for help. And to no avail. However, below is the relevant info(sorry I did not post this the first time;first time dealing with an issue like this,
so I wasnt for shore what relevant data pertained to this issue):
I also did not copy and paste the entire log in here(obviously) because its huge, however I will post link to full file if requested/needed, but hopefully I grabbed the entire log for my SP2 update failure issue. All I can grab from this log is that the
CBS failed. However, I have no clue where to go after that..
