Storing movies separately on iTunes

I'm sure this has been asked a lot but the solutions don't work completely. I have a macbook with iTunes library stored locally but as HD is small, I want to store Movies separately on an external drive (actually connected via my Time Capsule). I know I can do this by simply un-checking "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library" and then just dragging the file from the external drive into iTunes to create a "link" and this works fine (except for the annoying aspect of having to drag the file every time I add a new one; is there anyway around this) but if i download videos (Movies or Shows) via iTunes (or an Apple TV) it will store the file with the music, not with the other Movies.
How can i solve this??
I really just want iTunes to realize that I have two different folders; one for music and one for video and for it to just sort it out itself...

This http://www.tunespan.com/help.html might do the trick

  • How do I access my iCloud content? Specifically movies purchased in itunes.

How do I access my iCloud content? Specifically movies purchased in itunes. I have multiple Apple devices, one itunes account, one cloud...purchased upgraded storage. The iCloud page on Apple website states that movies purchased in itumes are automatically transferred to the cloud. I can't find the movies unless I sync my devices via a cord. I am interested in purchasing Apple TV but want to make sure I will be able to access movies purchased.

Movies are not stored in icloud.  They are on the cloud - yes, but what Apple means,  is that you can redownload the movies via the iTunes Store, where all movies are stored (the itunes cloud).

  • I am trying to upload movies from my itunes to my iphone and it will only upload a select few. Why?

Help! I am trying to upload movies from my iTunes to my iPhone and it will only upload a select few. Why?

You are using File->Add File (or Folder) to Library, right?
Make sure that you also look at the various categories of content stored on the library:  turn on the sidebar (Ctrl+S keys toggle) and click the categories to see if the content shows in the content window of iTunes.
It could be you are trying to add a video/movie in a format iTunes does not accept because it cannot play it or work with it.  (And yes, if iTunes cannot add it to the library, it should absolutely report an error message rather than leave you wondering and drop the command.)

  • Viewing a movie purchased on Itunes

I am a newbie to Apple TV so please excuse my ignorance.  I have an Apple TV 3rd generation.  I purchased a movie on Itunes using my computer.   I can see the movie on my Itunes page under purchased movies.  I have not downloaded the movie.  Currently, there is a cloud icon by the movie.
When I am prompted to download the movie, what does this task actually do?  Does the movie have to be downloaded to my computer or can it be downloaded to an Icloud file?  Will I be given that choice to download to Icloud when I click on the download button?
How large, on average, are movies in terms of gigabites?
Assuming that I can download the movie to my icloud account, can I view this movie using Apple TV without having to turn my computer on?
Thank you and again, excuse my ignorance.

Unless you wish to store the movie file on the computer, you really do not need to download to maintain access to it. You may wish to do so if you wnat to watch it from the computer to prevent buffering delays, however.
as for watching on the Apple TV: Assuming you the AppleTV connected to the internet, and have signed in to iTunes with the AppleID used to purchase the movie, you are set. It does not have to be on the computer, nor does the computer need to be turned on to watch it. Simply open the Movies app on the AppleTV and select My Movies. The film will stream to the AppleTV directly (it isn't downloaded or actually stored on the device).

  • Lost movies bought on itunes

As i changed my computer i lost the short movies i bought on itunes.Where are the movie files in the itunes files(name?) and how can i get it back or is it lost...Itunes is deffinitely not a sure system when changing computer(even by using the automatic transfer by starting my new mac).As i have the movies on my ipod , can i put them back from my ipod to my computer or is this forbiden and restricted???All this tells me buying this DRM files with control by apple is not a safe thing.....!Thank's for help.

Did you authorize your new computer with your iTunes account? You need to do that to play previously purchased downloads, after if you've copied/migrated them to your new computer (and you can have up to 5 computers authorized at a time). Go to iTunes > Store menu > Authorize Computer.
Movies are stored in yourhomefolder/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library/Movies. TV Shows are stored in yourhomefolder/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library/TV Shows.
    Hope this helps...

  • Movies purchased from iTunes to stream to LG smart TV from NAS via DLNA?

Want to stream HD movies purchased from iTunes and stored on a WD NAS drive on LG smart TV (42LN578V)? Movies have standard iTunes DRM protection and so won't currently play on TV. Why is this not possible?! DRM or iTunes app for TV would offer sufficient protection for copyright holders surely? PC not up to job (so can't 'cast' to TV) and this would be a backwards step anyway. Must 'play' on TV in HD & 5.1. Is this not possible?!

iTunes running on windows laptop by the way. Don't want this to have to be on in order to watch the movies. Can an Apple TV box be an 'authorised device' for use in playing iTunes movies and then stream them directly from NAS?

  • Problems downloading and watching first movie rental from iTunes

I wanted to try renting a movie through iTunes tonight and it has been constant problems on my Windows 7 64-but PC home theater PC with iTunes 10.5.  I was going to rent it through Amazon Video on Demand, but they didn't offer the movie in HD on a PC (I would need a Ruku box, Tivo or Blu Ray player to get Amazon Video in HD).  I have used Amazon SD and Netflix HD streaming on the PC with no issues, so it is not normal to have problems streaming video with this PC or the internet connection here.
The iTunes download was indicating it will take 2 hours and I let it buffer about 30 minutes on my 15Mb connection.  Over 1 gig is cached.
I can only play the movie a few minutes at a time before the movie playback and download both stop with unknown error -39 and I have to manually resume the download every few minutes and restart the movie or else  iTunes freezes completely and I have to kill it and restart it and I have also rebooted the PC.
The 24 hour rental countdown has already started since I have already attempted to start watching the movie and it doesn't look like I'm even going to have time to finish watching the movie now.  Every time iTunes crashes and I relaunch it, I now have to re-enter my iTunes password just to get into iTunes.
This has been a complete nightmare and waste of time and waste of the $4.99 rental fee.
Are there any fixes to these issues?

I waited for the download to complete and now when I play the movie there is no sound!!
The movie had sound before even though I could only play a few minutes of the movie at a time.
I have sound everywhere else on the PC including the music in iTunes.  Only the movie playback has no sound.
I have tried rebooting, reinstalling iTunes and I even installed Quicktime because an old thread about iTunes movie rentals playing with no sound suggested installing Quicktime separately, but it has not helped.
This is a very poor experience renting movies through iTunes.
I can't find a way to subscrive to answere to this question without subscribing to email alerts fot every post in this forum.

  • Ihave a movie stuck in itunes on ipad for 3 weeks taking up 7 gigs.I deleted it from the videos app but it is still there.I also tried deleting from itunes on the pc but it does not appear there. Thanks

Ihave a movie stuck in itunes for 3 weeks taking up 7 gigs of memory.I deleted it from the videos app but still remains on the ipad.I also tried deleteing it from itunes on the pc but it does not appear there.Dont want to reboot the ipad if possible .Thanks

That list includes all the apps that you installed to your device directly from iTunes on the computer, or which were purchased on the iOS device and subsequently transferred to iTunes on the computer.
If you right click on any item in that list and choose "Show in Windows Explorer" it will open your iTunes application installer directory on your computer, which should be:
    C:\Users\User\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications
In there are all your saved application installers (*.ipa files).  You need to delete those actual installer bundles and then make sure to NOT allow the "transfer purchased content" when you sync or backup in iTunes (as that will just put them back on your hard drive).
One caveat to removing those, is that if you ever wish to keep a specific release of a particular app, and the developer replaces the iTunes/App store version with something else, your sole source for your older version will be your own stored copy of it.  So for example, when PDF expert released their iOS 7 update, and charged everyone full price for it, if you wished to keep using the previous version on your own devices, then you needed to keep a copy of the installer on your own computer as that older version is no longer available in the store front.

  • Move video from iTunes to external HD and then delete from internal HD?

How do I move certain TV shows and movies from my iTunes library (stored on my internal HD) to a new external HD (it's a 500GB WD Passport Studio)? I want to free up some space on my computer so after I transfer the videos to my external HD I plan on deleting the originals. If I do this, will I be able to easily plug in my external HD and play the transferred videos on iTunes without any problems?
I've searched all over for an easy answer to this but can't find any. Please help! Help of ANY kind would be amazing!

iTunes doesn't really have a way to move only TV/movies. It can only move the whole shebang - music, podcasts, TV, movies, apps, all of it.
It moves it all when you run the consolidate command.
If you only want to move a few things, you can move the TV/movies yourself using Windows Explorer. This will make itunes lose the paths. You would then have to right-click>Get Info on the items you moved, and browse to their new locations, so itunes knows where they are.
If you are moving a lot of files, it might be easier to
    - delete them in itunes
    - move the files using Win Exp
    - re-add them to itunes
The drawback to this method is losing ratings, play counts, and date added metadata. But you wouldn't have to re-locate them for itunes one-by-one.

  • Movies on my iTunes backed up

ive movies on my itunes and have them stored on a portable hard drive so when i connect my i pod i use it to update (put on movies i like to watch  using it) now i want to use my time capsule for it instead but want to connect the time capsule to my mac book via a lead what lead can i use do you recommend a lead thats good quality apple product i want to use the lead cause in some reviews i read it says that the wireless time capsule  can get faulty using it all the time

The only connection available to the TC is ethernet.. it is network device.
Buy an ethernet Patch cable. I am pretty sure Apple don't make patch cables.. although they might sell them in their stores.
Using wireless is fine but obviously much slower. Also using the TC for storage of files that are not backed up elsewhere is not a good idea as the TC is a backup target without having any means to back itself up.
i want to use the lead cause in some reviews i read it says that the wireless time capsule  can get faulty using it all the time
I do want to comment that you are failing to understand what is going on here.
The Time Capsule is a router that is designed to work as a network device. Using a cable (ethernet) or using wireless will make no difference to its lifespan. If you leave it turned off, it cannot function as a router or backup device.. then there is no point to buying one.
Newest model TC should last 3years running 24/7 as long as you keep it clear of obstructions. They do not get anywhere near as hot as they used to and the fan does work to keep them cooler. Why Apple didn't do that for earlier generation I do not know. Or change the way of operation in a firmware update.. I am unsure.
Of course some will go bad as any products do.. turning it off and on all the time, is just as likely to shorten its lifespan as improve it.

  • Movie downloaded from itunes not playing on ipod video

I bought a movie off of itunes and downloaded it to my ipod video. But the movie won't play on my ipod. It plays perfectly fine on my computer. Why isn't playing on my ipod video? Is there something i have to do first before videos are able to play on my ipod?

Is it one film or all of them? I'm having a similar problem where this one film I accidentily deleted that used to play got reloaded and now plays fine on my computer but won't sync onto my iPod. Everything's checked off and ready to go on my computer, but when I sync the film simply isn't there.

  • HT204370 I registered a digital copy on disneymoviesanywhere and connected with my itunes account but can't find the movies on my itune account.  Just want to download the movie onto my ipod touch.

I registered a digital copy of a movie on disneymoviesanywhere.  I connected the account to my itunes account but I can't find the movie on my itunes account.  I'm just trying to download the movie onto my ipod touch.

    Hey cptniemo,
Thanks for the question. Connecting your iTunes Store and Disney Movies Anywhere accounts should sync all of your eligible Disney, Pixar, and Marvel movies between both services. After connecting your accounts, you can check your purchased history in the iTunes Store:
    Download past purchases

Alternatively you can download the free Disney Movies Anywhere app from the App Store (iOS 7 required):

  • How can I move my iPod iTunes Music Folder from C: drive to a New Drive?

Running out of space on my PC's C: drive, so I tried moving all the folder to my new E: drive ie: (E:\My Music 2\iTunes).
ALSO set iTunes (Edit/Preferences/Advanced/iTunes Music Folder location to E:\My Music 2\iTunes - but nothing seems to help!)
All of the files couldn't find the source files, unless I pointed to them one by one.
Can't move them all back because they are about 7GB+, and I now only have about 5.5 GB on my C: drive.
And when I just went to open iTunes again, all my libraries don't even show.
I'm afraid to plug in my ipod for synching until I get this straight, for fear of messing that up too.
    Please advise.

To move your iTunes music to an external drive...
    1 Quit iTunes.
2 Move the entire iTunes folder including music to
    the external drive.
In point #2 do you mean move the entire Program File folder of iTunes or just the "My Documents" iTunes library folder?
I have a full laptop, a big iPod and an external HD, I am trying to figure out how to store my library on the HD, but access it as if it were on the laptop.
I moved my iTunes library to the HD and then in iTunes I used the "add folder to library" function, but it brought all of the song files back onto the laptop.
How do you iPod gurus configure your setup with comp, HD and iPod? I need some guidance, my methods are not working.

    Hi brett242424,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The movie would be in your iTunes library, in the Movies application.  However, if the rental period has expired, you may need to contact the iTunes Store Support about your situation:

  • How can I play an HD movie purchased from Itunes  on my TV using HDMI connection?

I would like to know how i can play movies purchased in Itunes on my TV using the HDMI cable?   When I try playing HD movies from Itunes I can't play them.  I get the following error:
"To play in HD, you must have a computer with a built in display or have it connected to a display that supports HDCP".
I used to be able to play them before but not anymore.  Not sure why.  Maybe it's due to the new update.  Is there a fix?
    Thanks,

Ok, best to contact itunes then so they can look into it
