"Storing On Server" preference?

When I check the preference in Mail to store Draft messages on server, the Mail app actually creates a folder called "Drafts" in the "On My Mac" section and removes it from the main IMAP Inbox. If I uncheck the preference, it removes it again and puts it back in the Inbox.
Isn't this the opposite of what is supposed to happen?

Hi Frozo
I think this works as advertised:
If you decide to store your drafts on the server, all the drafts, that already have been created locally are stored in the On My Mac section. They're moved there to make room for the new drafts folder, which will hold the future drafts which reside on your server.
I'm not sure, but I think it works that way.
Kind regards

  • Limitation on the data stored in community preferences

Is there a limitation on the amount of data stored in community preferences?
    Thanks
    Sampath

no there is not in the portal...but remember: the community preferences (as well as the other type of preferences) are passed to your portlet code through HTTP header and that's where the limit is (it depends on the app server / web server you are using...i.e. i think tomcat limits by default http header size to 16k)...plus having a lot of data in your preference will be a performance hog for your portlet (much more data goes back and forth beteen portal and portlet)
    Hope that helps.

    Hi,
not sure on the limitation of dbms_output.put, but 4000 characters happens to be the maximum size of a varchar2 column....
    I normally use dbms_output.put_line for debugging PL/SQL.

  • Can't login to Server Preferences

Have 10.6.1 Server running as a Open Directory Master. I cannot log in to Server Preferences using either my admin or directory administrator account. I get the message "Unable to authenticate to the Open Directory Master" - "This computer record credentials could not be retrieved from the System keychain."
LDAP/Password server/Kerberos are all listed as running in Server Admin (which is working fine). I also use Open Directory for Kerio Mail Server, and that's working fine.
changeip -checkhostname comes back fine. While I don't have a major need to use Server Preferences, I'm worried that being unable to log in signals a larger problem with Kerberos that I'd like to nip in the bud.

I had a similar problem and was able to fix it. Here was my situation:
I had a ldap master (host foo1) and a ldap slave (host foo2). The slave's server preferences stopped working after it became a slave. I would get the same errors as you did when trying to open server preferences. I did some searches and stumbled across this site: http://www.macgasm.net/2009/11/04/mac-os-x-10-6-1-server-server-preferences-brok e-and-how-to-fix-it/
This only kind of applies to the issue at hand but I was able to take this info and apply it to my problem.
    Here is what I did:
I discovered I was missing the password item called com.apple.opendirectory on foo2 (located in the system keychain)
I logged into foo1 and examined the com.apple.opendirectory password item on foo1. I copied all of the info (exported to text) --- including the password. I then logged into foo2 and created a new password item in the system keychain. Making sure to include all of the info from the previous export. The only difference is that I changed the hostname. I then made sure that access control was set to allow all applications.. (this is very important). Server preferences then worked.
An example of what I exported and what I re-created:
    name: com.apple.opendirectory
    Kind: application password
    Account: foo1.yourdomain.com$
    Where: Com.apple.opendirectory
    Password: some_password
On foo2 I created this password key:
    name: com.apple.opendirectory
    Kind: application password
    Account: foo2.yourdomain.com$
    Where: Com.apple.opendirectory
    Password: some_password
Notice the host change. This key must be in the system keychain and allow access to all.
    Good luck.

  • ICal service grayed out for users in Server Preferences

In Server Preferences all the services are enabled and the buttons are green only on the home page of Server Preferences but, when I click on users, then Services, all the services are available to check and uncheck but the iCal service. iCal service shows a check mark but it is not possible to change the status.
In Server Admin, the iCal service is enabled, (green button), it is enabled for the wiki and at My Page but, when clicking on the Calendar it says "Getting events from server…", it stays there for awhile and then gives me this error "Unable to access calendar, because the calendar server is not running".
Firewall is running and all the ports for iCal are opened in Server Admin and I added iCal to the Security pane in Server Preferences.
I need help, please. I have a fresh install of OS X 10.6 Server.

  • Server Preferences spins when I launch it

    Hi there,
I have a Mac Mini server with Snow Leopard Server and I've been using it with no problems until now. Server Admin works great, remote access via VNC and ssh are just fine. However when I launch Server Preferences (whether it's from the same machine or a laptop in the same local network) it spins forever with the infamous beach ball.
A quick grep over ssh shows servermgrd -x running fine on the background.
    More info:
    * Snow Leopard Server 10.6.6
    * system.log shows no easy to spot errors
    * Running with a static IP, DNS enabled (named running)
    * Server DNS name set as <servername>.local
Any ideas on what could be causing this?
    Thanks in advance!
This is what I get when I Force Quit Server Preferences, it seems to be stuck in a loop waiting for a network response:

First, allow me to confirm that you have absolutely no references to any DNS servers off of the 10.0.0.50 LAN? (Whether that's in a DNS server list, as a second DNS server entered in a list, or in a DHCP server, or anywhere here. Again, +no other DNS servers referenced+ here?)
Let's see, in my client laptop, in System Preferences > Network > network controller > Advanced > DNS, the only DNS server is 10.0.0.50. However, under "Search Domains" there is "lan", and I cannot remove it even after authenticating.
Does your DNS server reference only itself (and here, as the 127.0.0.1 host) and reference no other DNS servers? (This via System Preferences > Network > network controller > Advanced > DNS setting.)
In my server, in System Preferences > Network > network controller > Advanced > DNS, all I have is 127.0.01. The "Search Domains" list is empty here.
What do you get when you dig the client from itself, and dig the client from the server?
Hmmm... The client I assume is in a .local domain, since there is no DNS record for it in my server and therefore it is not part of the polyglee.org domain, so I get no answer:

  • Cant Access Server Admin and Server Preferences anymore

After upgrading to the latest Mac OS X 10.6.5 Version and/or changing Admin Password (I dont know the reason yet) I dont have access to my Server Admin and Server Preferences while I still can use my Workgroup Manager including Directory Admin (driadmin) and System Preferences. My Client Macs cant access Filesharing services and timemachine backup service anymore on the server, too. Other Services like MyEyeTV, Wuala, iTunes are working fine on the server and can be used by my Client MACs in my LAN.
How could I proceed to fix this issue?
What I have tried so far:
I have tried to access my Server Admin thru the Client Mac mini using Server Admin App.
I checked the OS Version: Mac OS X Server 10.6.5 (10H575)
I checked the Server Admin Version: 10.6.5 (328.4)
I also reinstalled the latest MAC OS X Server Update 10.6.5
I still have root access. (Verified by DataQuest Engineer)
Used also 127.0.0.1 Address to Access the Server.
Is there a more elegant way to fix this issue than reinstall the server?

... well uninstalling "Hands Off!" Application solved the problem.
Also if I assumed that i disabled this application, it was still active.

  • Can't open server preferences in OSX

Just bought a new Mac mini Server with Snow leopard server on it. Have finished installation but when I try to go to the Server Preferences it only loads the top menu and no preference panel. If I go to Connection -> New connection it just does nothing.
    Any clues?
Also where do you find info on what you called your server in the initial setup?

    Hi
    Launch Terminal and issue
    hostname
That should tell you the server's hostname. You'll find the Bonjour name in the Sharing Preferences Pane which should also give you a clue.

If you have Web project, check if HTML Root Directory has got a Null value ?
Double-click on the project to bring up project properties
    Select Input Paths
See the value for HTML Root Directory.
If it is Null or invalid, edit to make sure it is valid and Click ok.
If not, create a new/empty project and see if you can launch Embedded OC4J server preferences dialog for that project.

  • Server Preferences - Services buttons grayed out

    Hi,
I have 10.6 server. In the Server Preferences window under the tab "Services" I have the list of services available on my computer (File Sharing, Address Book, iCal, etc.) For some reason, all radio buttons are selected and grayed out with the exception of "Time Machine". That radio button can be edited. All other radio buttons are grayed out.
Any ideas? Which .com.apple file do I need to delete to fix this one?
    Thanks,
----Okay figured it out. Using Admin Server - Access - Services, I was able to reset.

    Dear Krishna Vamsi,
if i understand it right, please try this one.
Close the service manager if running.
Got to the folder where it is located and use right click on the icon.
    Use: execute as Administrator.

  • Server Preferences/Admin takes forever to load!

When I select Server Preferences or Server Admin from the Dock, it takes between 3-4 minutes to ask me for a server/user/password. Once I enter that, it takes another 3-4 minutes to log in. Basically, it takes me almost 10 minutes to be able to use either of these tools. What could be taking so long? It works (lets me log on and does what I need), but it takes too long to be usable.
Any ideas? I am on a brand new xServe Intel.
    Thank you,
    Wayne

Do you have DNS running on your server?
If not do you have DNS records for your server in another DNS server?
You should first try host yourserver. Does it bring back the IP of the server?
Then you should try host ipaddressofyourserver . Does it bring back the name of the server?
With these you can check forward and reverse DNS.
If these two fail, you should examine DNS records, and then you can use the changeip command
    1. scutil --get HostName. This should bring you the HostName of the server.
    2. sudo changeip -checkhostname. The HosName and the DNS name must match. If not, the command itself will guide you to the right direction of fixing it.
