Storing pics on 3G ipod whilst travelling

I will be travelling for 6wks and have a 40G 3rd Gen Ipod. (My son also has an 80G iPod video). I have a Kodak DX7590 digital camera, and a Canon EOS 30D. One has a Compact Dig card, and the other a Smart Media card. Whats the best way to upload the pics onto my ipod? Will the Apple Digital Camera connector work with both cameras or is there a better way to connect/ upload the pics. I don't have to SEE the pics on the ipod, just store them till I get home. Many thanks.

Steve,
I don't know about the iPod camera accessory. I looked into it one time myself but it was unclear if it would work with my main digital camera. Also I have another older digital camera I still use because it is a great IR camera but does not have a USB port.
So what I ended up getting was a "On-The-Go" (aka "OTG") drive enclosure. These are typically for 2.5" laptop type drives (you supply the drive). Essentially the OTG specification allows the drive to act as a host controller for the USB port and can transfer files off of any USB Mass Storage compliant device hooked up to it. This included most digital cameras with USB ports, USB card readers, USB Thumb drives, and other hard drives.
The one I got was from Macally, but I don't see it on their web site anymore. It has a built in Lithium Ion Battery. It hooks up to the computer like a normal USB2 external enclosure. But out "in the field" you can run it off the battery and connector your camera or USB card reader to it, hit a button, and it will automatically copy everything from the Camera/Card Reader/etc. into the OTG drive.
They work pretty good and do the job. Downsides are there are typically no ways to check if your transfer is OK since they do not have screens to check stuff & they tend to be pricey (~$40-$60 for the enclosure vs. $15-$25 for a normal 2.5" enclosure).
To work around the first problem, no confirmation if everything transferred, I tend to "sync" my camera memory cards twice (each time creates a new folder on the OTG drive) before erasing the card. Since it can read directly off a card reader, I can transfer stuff off my Olympus xD cards as well as off the older Oly's SmartMedia cards (from the camera without a USB port).
Anyway, just a thought. Do a web search for "On-The-Go Enclosure" or "OTG Enclosure" and you will start to find plenty of options.

  • I lost my ipod whilst travelling, is there a way to get the photos from it onto a new device using iCloud?

    Thanks

If you had turned Photo Stream 'On' , you can retrieve your photos as they should appear in 'Photo Stream' in iPhoto on a Mac or on an iPhone provided you are signed in using the same Apple ID as your iPod Touch

  • Ok so I need help with getting my pics off my ipod

Ok so when I was putting my music on in iTunes on the computer I accedentally uploaded some pics to my iPod and now when I try to delete them there isn't a option to do that and I can't figure out how to get them off of my pod c an someone help?? Please

duck75, the poster said he synced the phtos to his iPod. The ony way to delete them is to unsync them. You can't delete photos synced to the iPod via the iPod
Sean matta, are you you unselected the photos, click on Apply and then synced?

  • Putting pics on my ipod nano (2nd gen)

How do you put pics on your iPod nano?

Here's a simple "How To" on downloading photos from a folder on your hard disk to an iPod:
1 Create a folder on your hard drive to hold the photos you want on your iPod. Call it iPod Photos for example
2 Drag the photos you want from your usual picture folder into the folder you just created
2 Open iTunes, select your iPod in the iTunes Source list.
3 Click the Photos tab and select “Synch photos from.”
4 Choose “Choose Folder” from the pop-up menu and select the iPod photos folder you created.
On a small device like the 2GB Nano I would tend to leave the "Include Full Resolution photos" box unchecked as these will take up a lot of space on the iPod and are only useful if you want to copy photos from one computer to another. iTunes will add "optimised", small TV quality versions of the photos to the iPod for you to view.

  • How do I get pics on my iPod when I have it set in iTunes to manual update?

I tried dragging my pics into the ipod part on iTunes, but that didn't work, then I tried opening it up in my computer, but that didn't work either! Anyone know, please?

You can't drag and drop photos.
Connect the iPod, in the summary screen click on the "photos" tab.
Put a check mark in "sync photos". Now choose a folder where your photos are.
    This is an option.
Create a new folder and give it a recognizable name (e.g. iPod photos).
Drag (or copy) your photos into this new folder.
Connect your iPod and open iTunes and when the summary page appears, click on the "photos" tab.
Under "Synchronize photos from" choose "Selected albums" and select the new folder you created and click on "OK".
Then you can just add and remove photos to and from that new folder as you wish.
You can do this even if your iPod is set to manually manage your music.

You are not connected to the internet. Try:
    - Resetting the iPod
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Powerng off and then back on your router

  • How to erase pic on the ipod nano ?

I just want to know how to erase pic on my ipod nano and to see see my pics on itunes ?

Have a look at the tutorial: Transferring Pictures to Your iPod
Once you've had a look at that here's a tip for managing the photos that go on to your iPod. Create a folder on your hard drive called called "iPod Photos" or something similar and drag the photos you want on your iPod to it.. Under the photo preferences for the iPod, point iTunes to "synchronize photos from" and choose to update from your new folder. If you keep a dedicated folder like this, you won't need to edit your normal pictures folder just for the iPod and you can add and remove picture from it whenever you need to.

    Hello Carol.
Although possibly not related to your problem, I will remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum stability, performance, security and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at [http://www.getfirefox.com getfirefox.com].
As for your issue, you need to provide more information. Firefox is not an email client. You may be having a problem with the email client you use, or with the site you are using to handle emails...

  • Ipod issues whilst travelling/automatic update

Can anyone help? I'm travelling at the moment in Australia, I really want to download some new podcasts etc. My Ipod is set so that it automatically updates on whatever i tunes it is connected to; really what I want to know is how to add new stuff without the music stored being wiped off. Do I just plug it in with it set to automatically update? If not what else can I do? Any help would be much appreciated!
    PC   Windows XP

    Hey Richio!
There's a technique to prevent automatic-syncing from happening to your iPod's music:
    1 - Open iTunes.
2 - Get read to watch your iPod, and connect it.
3 - As soon as your iPod displays "Do Not Disconnect", immediately begin to press and hold the "Ctrl" + "Shift" keys for about 20-30 seconds. This should prevnet the auto-syncing from happening to your iPod.
    See if that works.

  • I have been using my ipod classic as a hard drive whilst travelling, but at least half of the photo folders no longer show up when accessing the Ipod in My Computer

    Hello All,
My concern is growing rapidly that i may have lost a large chunk photographs, i take some solice in the fact that when looking at the properties
of my Ipod the correct amount of memory is still being used thisa is the same when looking at memory usage in ITunes, however i do not seem to be able to
    access them.
Could this be a FAT32 storage problem as this is the current format i have the Ipod in? should it try converting? Could this be an issue from using windows?
or could the files somehow have become hidden folders?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

On the main ipod screen in itunes check the manually manage ipod box.
I would personally keep the tracks on my laptop, the ipod HDD is less stable than the laptops.

  • I can no longer see the files stored in my 160 ipod

I had 42 gigas in files. I was trying to copy one of those files from the ipod to my laptop and suddenly it frozes. I had to restart the laptop. When i open the ipod to se the files stored, i was no longer abble to see the files, eventhoug when i see the memory ocuppied in the ipod, is still there, but i can access to them. The music still works perfect. I had a couple of smaller files, like 1Giga and they still there and I can access to them perfectly. But the problem is in the file with the 42 Gigas.

Check your iPod's hard drive for errors. Open My Computer, right-click the drive, Click Properties, Tools, Check Now..., Select Options, Start.
Some of your missing files/folders may be restored although their names may be lost. 4gb is the max. file size on FAT32 so are we talking a 42gb folder rather than a single file?

  • Downloading personal video stored on computer to iPod

Is it possible to get video that I have stored on my computer (recording from a DVR in an mpg4 file) onto the iPod? I cannot transfer it to iTunes but is there a way to transfer it to the iPod directly? Do I need to purchase a special app to do this? Please help.

You can rip the DVD to a video file on your computer, move it into iTunes Library, and then sync it to your iPod Touch. The program I'd like to recommend to do this is called HandBrake, and it's available for free on both Windows and Mac.

  • Ipod usb travel charger works with mi

interesting little find, so my wife got this external travel charger thingy for her ipod, you know for those times when you are away from your computer. the thing is cube-ish, plugs into the wall, and has a USB-A slot on the slide. you are meant to charge your ipod by pluggin in the usb cable. it also charges the shuffle. you plug the shuffle directly into it, but then i looked at it closer. 5v output with A. wait a minute. that's the same as my MICRO's travel charger. so i grabed my usb cable and my micro and hooked it up. and lo and behold, IT WORKS. so if you have an ipod, or shuffle, or know someone that has this usb travel charger, it'll work on your micro too. and you get one in the states for about $30 and they can be found just about any place that sells ipod crap.
just thought you'd like to know.
