Story not recognizing a character in the Outline

I imported a Word script, (that was exported from Buzzword), and one of my characters is not showing up as a coloured dot in the Outline pane. I've rewritten the character name and ensured it's set as a Character from the type menu, but no luck. I had a similar issue with another character and closing and re-opening the script fixed it. However, this character just doesn't show up at all.
Any ideas?
Also, is there a limit to the number of coloured dots that are displayed?
Thanks,
Andre

Thanks for the details Deepak.
I love the idea of these dots and can see them being very useful when passing on scripts to my actors to read their parts. They would easily be able to see their dots for each script. For me however, the current implementation is not flexible enough. I am writing epsiodes which always have the same 4 or 5 characters, then each episode has 3 or 4 incidental characters. With only 6 dots, I'll always be missing some.
For this to be a killer feature for me, I would like to see:
More dots with any of the following preferences:
Create dots dynamically based on characters in a scene. Colours should be consistent throughout the script though.
Create a set number of dots (user-defined)
Create a set number of dots based on characters in the entire script
Allow filtering by dot. That way the actor playing "Jimmy" can quickly see all his scenes. Filtering should allow for multiple selections as well, so you could see all scenes with Jimmy and Jane, for example.
Ensure that the colours remain consistent for the same character in all scripts for a project. This is particularly important in my episodic format. If Jimmy's dots are blue in ep1, but red in ep2, and green in ep3, Jimmy's actor might get confused. If the dots were tied to the char bios (behind the scenes), maybe with a character properties preference.

When disconnect the external drive, he iPod appears in My Computer. However, iTunes is on external drive; therefore music is not syncing onto iPod. I've attempted the 5 R's as well as searching for iPod in Device Mananger. When iPod is conncected, it is listed in Devce Manage as "Unknown Device."
I've changed drive letters on boh iPod and external drive and get the same message. Please help.

QRe: Zen MX Causes "USB Hardware has Malfunctioned" Msg from Windows XpyUhh, Yes.
I used to same cable to attach my Motorola Razr and the computer correctly found it and identified it as such.
I also tried another cable (brand new) same thing.
I went to recovery mode and did a "CLEAN UP" but no dice.
I also got my I.S. tech guy to look into it and on the USB page it say "UNKNOWN DEVICE"? when he tried to delete it it did not help, it just reappears as "UDVC"? Also in looking into it it seems to have no drivers.
He came to this site and tried to do somethinm through here but it did'nt work.
Now in listening to it last night it began to 'skip' or what I call 'HICCUP" terribly. Where a song starts and stops, during the middle of it. ? It's always done it a little but it has been getting more and more common and now? It's WAY worse about it.
It has never been dropped, or nishandled in any way. I bought the clear hard case to protect it. And only has about 300 songs on it. Never used for anything else. No vids no pics, nothing.

  • "USB Device Not Recognized", and I tried the 5 R's and all that....

OK, I just got a new shuffle, and my computeris also new. I am using a Dell with Windows Media XP. I also just installed iTunes 7.5.
Whenever I place the shuffle on the dock the charging light comes on for a few moments, then I get the pop-up message:
"USB device not recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. No drivers are installed for this device."
Then the charging light turns off.
iTunes does not show any "source" or recognition of the shuffle being attached.
My sons recieved Scandisk mp3 players and they are both working on my new computer with no issues.
I did try to remove iTunes from my computer, re-install, and then dock the shuffle again, and got the same results.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
      Windows XP

I have experienced the same problems and frustration as many of you with Windows not recogizing the shuffle. Looking to forums, changing drivers, using another computer for answers.
The shuffle I purchased for my wife did not work with our primary laptop (Windows XP 1.1 usb ports) but it worked successfully with another laptop (same OS and usb version).
Grasping at straws, I remembered I had a USB extension cable and connected the shuffle usb connection in the extension cable and the extension cable into the usb port of my PC. It worked. It seemed to make a better and more snug connection with my laptop usb port than the usb connection with the shuffle.
ITunes also recognizes the shuffle. I am curious if this resolves the issues many of you are having.

  • IPOD Not Recognized By Windows XP - The Solution!!!

    Hi folks,
I came across the solution to this problem over on the Microsoft website and it instantly cured my problems. Here are the steps:
The solution is to make sure you stop the usb device prior to unplug. not just ejecting from itunes but stopping the usb itself.
    How to fix
    - Turn off computer.
    - Plug ipod into usb
    - Then you must reset your ipod... don't worry it won't wipe anything out.To reset move the hold button ( on top of the ipod) once to hold then back to original position. Then press and hold the center button and the top menu button at the same time for 6 seconds.
    - Start computer and it should install the usb driver for the ipod automatically.
    - Your ipod will say do not unplug so don't.
    - Then open itunes and it will be there and you are good to go.
Just remeber to not only eject ipod from itunes but stop usb.
Go to the program icons near the clock and right click the usb icon and "safely remove hardware" will appear and click it. stop it and select " apple ipod"
    enjoy!!!

In case it helps point to the solution, here are the steps I am taking and what I am seeing:
    1. Disconnect iPOD, toggle the hold button on/off and manually reset the device.
    2. Delete "Unknown Device" in Device Manager.
    3. Uninstall iPOD and iTunes software.
    4. Reboot computer
    5. Install iPOD and iTUNES software
    6. Open iTUNES
    7. Run iPOD software - connect the iPOD when instructed to do so.
Windows finds unknown USB device - installs the driver and announces successful installation and hardware ready for use. :-)))
5-6 seconds later Windows announces USB device not recognized, that a device malfunction has occurred and am advised and Windows is unable to recognize it. :-(((
To Note: a. Assigning usbstore.inf as the driver for the the iPOD doesn't "take". The assignment ends without error message but going back and checking indicates no driver assigned to the device.
    b. USB mouse, keyboard and flash drive all work and are recognized by the system. I have not been using the flash drive with the ipod to avoid complications.
    c. I managed (once) to connect it with the iPOD software, have it recognized in iTunes and transferred music to the device. Unable to reconnect ever since.

  • Iphone not recognizing photos put into the shared folder

I'm trying to import new photos from a shared folder. I just dragged photos from my main account into the shared folder so other accounts on the same computer can drag them into their own iphoto. I had three sources of the new photos; canon camera, iphone4 and a sony. They are all working fine in my main account but when one of my user accounts tries to drag these iPhoto complains many of the photos are not recognized. After some discovery I found that many of these are "read only" and if I make it read/write it fixed the issue. I can't seem to find a way to use the "info" to change all the files at the same time. I have hundreds of photos I need to do this to.
Is there any other solution to this problem?
Was there a better way to do this from the start to avoid this situation?
    This is very frustrating...
    Thanks

Is there any other solution to this problem?
    Use iPhoto Sharing:
Enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account(s). In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
    Regards
    TD

  • Itunes not recognizing my iphone after the new update. Help!

Ok, so after my old dinosaur computer finally finished updating and restoring my iphone4 with the new software, everything seems ok with the exception of about 20 ringtones that didn't get restored over. So I go to replug in my phone and I get an error message saying "This iphone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service has not been started."
WHAT???? I just updated the stupid phone for hours and now it does  this? So now it's not even being recognized in my itunes window. Anyone???

    Envision99 is nearly correct.
First thing to try is to re-install iTunes (download it HERE and run the installer) - but, there's no need to uninstall it first. If that does not correct the problem, you may need to remove and reinstall AMDS, as described in this linked kbase article.

  • My external hard drive is not recognized by Time Machine; "The backup disk is not available" according to Disk Utility

I'm not completely tech savvy, but I'm having troubles with my external memory & time machine.  I'm a student, and thus its very important to me to be able to back up my computer.
I wanted to back up my Time Machine the other day.  I clicked the icon at the top of the page (beside the battery icon, etc.) and the message "The backup disk is not available".  I have a 500GB Seagate passport (ie: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Seagate---FreeAgent-GoFlex-500GB-External-USB-2.0-Po rtable-Hard-Drive---Silver/9929098.p?id=1218196478444&skuId=9929098)
My macbook pro is version 10.7.5 Mac OS X Lion.  My external memory is only about a year old. It hasn't been dropped or anything; it permanently sits secured to my desk.
What appears when I click "Repair Disk":
Verify and Repair volume “Time Machine Backups”
Checking file systemChecking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Detected a case-sensitive volume.
    Checking extents overflow file.
    Checking catalog file.
Incorrect block count for file shutdown_time
(It should be 1 instead of 0)
    Invalid node structure
    Rebuilding catalog B-tree.
The volume Time Machine Backups could not be repaired.
Volume repair complete.Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.Error: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
After clicking "Repair Disk" this message pops up: "Disk Utility Stopped Repairing 'Time Machine Backups'  Disk utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many as your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files."
I don't want to wipe my memory on my external disk just in case the disk doesn't restore (as I do not have another disk to back up my computer on to).
What is going on? Why is this happening out of the blue? How can I fix this?

Sounds like it either has, or is about to die.
If you don't need anything off the old drive, then yes, replace it immediately with something a little more reolaable. I use WD Caviar Black personally. But anything that has a known low failure rate.
