Stp interoperability problem

can u tell me how about interoperability among cst, pvst, cst, mst

Hello,
This document was helpful to me in understanding the concepts: "Configuration example to migrate Spanning Tree from PVST+ to MST"

  • FCP to STP workflow problems

Hi all, having some real problems with a charitable recording I have done for the kids local theatrical group and wonder if anyone can help. Here is the issue:
Recorded kids play with single cam with onboard mic. Used Sony HDV A1 which has used track 1 for the audio from the shotgun mic and has put the audio from the onboard stereo? mics on track 2. Audio is as good as its going to be with the shotgun mic apart from the times when parents are clapping when it distorts.
Have the whole play in 2 long - 45mins - runs without any stop start.
I then put the sequence on the timeline and use the razor blade to split the various scenes (need to cut some of the play out). Now have the whole play with 2 audio tracks with cuts where I want them. Tricky bit comes next.
I need to loose the audio track 2 as it is too quiet and use the mono track 1 but try to do something with the distorted and too loud sections. I tried to send each cut scene to STP, make the adjustments, send it back etc., but have noticed (after waiting 24-hours for the render down to SD for the DVD) that each of the cut scenes seems to have been treated as a whole 90 minute section by STP with each one coming in at 1.2Gb! No wonder Compressor was taking a long time to do its stuff!
So, I take it there is a better way but any idea how I should do this? Working with the 45 minute clips on the timeline is nice and easy but how do I handle the audio? Just want the one track replicated across audio 1 and 2 plus for STP to just handle each section of the sequence rather than the whole thing.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Michael

    Hi Jim,
Many thanks - this has helped a lot and I can now work on the audio with each clip and the resulting file size has gone down to a fraction of the original.
Any thoughts on the 2nd part of my question around audio tracks? As mentioned my Sony A1 seems to have captured two tracks and I need to discard one (the onboard mic). If I do this by simply deleting the 2nd Audio track in FCP when I open the track 1 in STP I can see it again. I guess by removing it from the FCP timeline does not result in removing the track from the referenced file that is sent to STP.
Tried converting tracks to mono in STP, saving and returning to FCP but then I get a 'reconnect missing media' error as the number of tracks has changed. When I reconnect it works fine (mono audio from both left and right) but the red \ through the file name audio symbol is still shown against the STP file name in the FCP browser. Suppose I can live with this but the red \ is probably telling me that I am doing something wrong!!
Thanks once again for the help so far,
    Regards, Mike

  • STP running problem

cisco 2960 has about 256 vlan but we can run SPT(PSV plus) on finally 128 vlan, how can i set SPT on all vlan

    Hi Gerardo,
The problem is that there are some cases in wich I dont know why there is two different STP Zones.
What exactly do you mean by this? Can you explain in detail how did you come to the conclusion there are two different STP zones in your network? Perhaps some exact configuration information or outputs from show spanning-tree would help.
However, in any case, it is strongly possible that the SG-300 and the D-Link are running only a version of STP or RSTP that does not recognize VLANs and simply derives a loop-free topology for all VLANs at once. In that case, to the Catalyst 3750, the SG-300 and D-Link switches would appear as STP partners in VLAN1 and they would interoperate. For other VLANs, these switches would neither originate nor process any received per-VLAN BPDUs. As a result, the Catalyst 3750 would think it is the only switch in the entire VLAN 2, VLAN 3, etc. This is because the per-VLAN BPDUs are sent to a different destination MAC address than ordinary BPDUs, and for non-PVST switches, such BPDUs appear to be simply some multicasted frames that will be flooded and not processed.
It is very important for you to attempt to make all switches run the same version of STP. Ideally, if the D-Link and SG-300 support the MST, you should migrate your entire network to MST as it would save you lots of troubles you would otherwise have with running different STP versions. So without even going further, please try to find out if all your switches support MST. Configuring it is fairly simple although it requires more pre-planning than PVST.
    Best regards,

  • STP/RSTP problem

    Hi,
It seems that the normal working of STP/RSTP keeps the ports whose link is not up in forwarding state (role = designated).
When such a port is connected to another port in the forwarding state, a network loop may occur.
Such a loop will be resolved when one of these ports receives a BPDU sent by the other.
But at the time of connection establishment between these ports, if there is some broadcast going on, a broadcast storm may create due to the temporary loop. Consequently BPDUs will collide with the broadcast packets and the ports will not be able to exchange BPDUs and it takes longer time for the network to converge. In the worst case, it will never converge. Please see the attached topology.
    In this case:
    a) There is a "ping" between PC_A and PC_B. (ping interval: 1 second)
    b) PC_C transmits broardcast packets every 1 second.
    c) Connection between SW_111(Port1) and SW_444(Port1) is restored.
In certain trails, broadcast storm was created on reconnection and it took longer time for the network to converge.
It took more than 180 seconds for RSTP to converge in certain cases.
If there is no broadcast, such a topology will converge in 0-2 seconds for RSTP and 0-19 seconds for STP.
Approximate reconvergence time was measured by counting the ping "Request timeout" messages.
One solution is to disable the "link-down ports" and enable it on link-up.
But this increases the convergence time by 30s (two forward delay timer expiries after link-up)
How can this problem be solved without affecting the normal convergence time?
    Thanks in advance,
    Vipin

    Hi Vipin,
By default, STP puts a port in designated role but *discarding* state at link up. This means that the temporary loop you describe will not occur.
I don't know what you mean by "link-down ports" option, but I have the feeling that you enabled portfast on a port where you should not have it. Portfast is supposed to identify what the IEEE call "edge" ports. An edge port only connects to end stations (from the L2 perspective, a router is an end station for instance). In your case, you are connecting two layer 2 devices together and portfast is not a valid configuration (the CLI must even complain when you enter the command;-))
It is true that the STP convergence time will be 30 seconds in your scenario, but RSTP should be extremely fast here. Make sure that all the ports are seen as point to point by the spanning tree (which should be the case by default if the links are full duplex, else you can configure the link type manually at the interface level).
    Hope this helps!

  • (GPS) coordinates in Contacts interoperability problem with Maps

I have noticed that using lat/long coordinates works fine in Maps to search for addresses with nameless streets. The address can also be added to a contact. When trying to locate an address from Contacts a problem is that Contacts always add the country to the coordinates and Maps doesn't like that.
If I search for "59.871859,17.527034" in Maps, it takes me to a nameless road in Uppsala, Sweden. I can then add that address to a contact, and the address becomes "+59°52'18.69", +17°31'37.32". When I later press this address in Contacts it appends a seemingly random country to the address, so in my case the address becomes "+59°52'18.69", +17°31'37.32 United States", which Maps doesn't like. If I manually delete the country part in Maps and search again it works fine. The strange thing is that if I edit the address the country is set to Sweden.
Is there a way to have Contacts not add the country to the address it feeds to Maps?
I'm using 1.1.3 firmware in my 16G touch btw.

I forgot to mention that when I choose a destination it keeps saying Calculating route all the time. I waited about 15 minutesand it didn't calculate anything.

  • STP Design Problem

Can I run different stp in the whole switched network? e.g. run pvst in access layer and rapid pvst in distribution layer
And do I need to turn on backbone fast and uplink fast feature in distribution layer switch if I run rstp in that switch?
    Thanks for any help

    Hello Yong,
although RSTP is backwards compatible with (802.1D) STP, when you have a switch in the spanning tree topology that runs (802.1D) STP, all switches will revert to STP. So, in your situation, it would not be possible to run RSTP in the distribution layer, and STP in the access layer.
With regard to RSTP and Backbone/UplinkFast: both are natively used by RSTP, that is, RSTP as an enhancement to STP has incorporated both BackboneFast and UplinkFast into its normal operation. There is no need to turn these features on when you run RSTP, since RSTP is already using them anyway...
    Does that make sense ?
Have a look at this document as well:

    At this URL:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps4324/prod_release_note09186a00800aded7.html#wp26366
    Cisco document said:
We do not recommend using the UplinkFast feature on switches with more than 20 active VLANs because convergence times might be unacceptably long.
Can anybody explain it ? Why convergence times might be unacceptably long ?
    thanks!

I suspect it may be the sw/hw limitation that only Cisco internal can tell the reason.
If there is such issue, you can consider to use RSTP instead.
    Hope this helps.

  • OWSM WS-Security interoperability issue

    Hi,
I have some web services running on JBoss AS (4.0.5) and a BPEL process, which integrates them, running on Oracle BPEL PM. To safeguard the services message exchange WS-Security should get engaged. In my test environment, i discovered some interoperability problems belonging to both signature processing and encryption in both directions of transfer.
The fault on signature processing depends on a missing "ValueType" within <wsse:Reference>, OASIS-WSS just recommends the use of this attribute while WS-I says it's a MUST. Encrypted messages were rejected with a "could not remove child node" error.
Is on Oracle side a work-around availably or a patch in sight?

    Hi Sebastian,
Have you tried adding a "XML Transform" policy?

  • STP Loop

    Hi ,
Yesterday my core switch got hung after i restarted it started working fine. I think its a STP loop problem but please tell which command should i run which can tell that STP problem was there
    Thanks
    Ab

View the output of the command "show spanning-tree vlan 1 detail" for instance.
It would tell you how much time has elapsed since the last topology change. Did it happen five minutes ago, or three hours.
How much times did it occur, 10 or 8390? Based upon these values you can see if there was a loop and how often it would've occur.
    Martin,
Choosing between Rapid Per-VLAN STP or Per-VLAN STP should be based on application requirements. If your application requires fast convergence it is recomended to use Rapid Per-VLAN STP.
I assume the GREEN non-Cisco switches do not support Rapid STP (802.1W) nor Multiple STP (802.1S), which would mean that you'd have a mixed 802.1d and 802.1W environment. This is not recomended.
Since the GREEN switched are single-homed, it would be appropiate to disable STP. The switchport on Catalyst 2950 can auto-detect the STP port-type. Make shure that no BDPUs are received on edge-ports by entering the "spanning-tree bpdu-guard default" command in global configuration.
Portfast, Uplinkfast and Backbonefast are Cisco proprietary enhancements to 802.1d. Which are re-used in Rapid STP, as defined by IEEE 802.1W. These features were designed to speed up reconvergence.
Since a fast reconvergence is dictated by business requirements 802.1W is increasingly popular to meet those recomands in building a robust network.
To answer question 2, I uplinkfast detects indirect link failures, in this case you would enable a switchport which is put into blocking because the rootpath is not shorter than the current.

  • Labeled-unicast problems

    Hi all,
We're run into an interoperability problem between Cisco and Juniper that seems insurmountable at this time which I'm hoping that someone else has encountered and, potentially, identified a workaround for.
In short, we have 4 route-reflectors: 2 x Cisco and 2 x Juniper.  Each of our PE have a BGP session to all 4 RR.  We run all address-families (IPV4/IPV6 unicast/multicast/vpnv4/6).  On 5 of our PE, labeled-unicast in used in conjunction to all the other address-families.
What we've discovered on the 5 PE configured with labeled-unicast is that if a new unicast prefix is learnt, the prefix is advertised to the router's route-reflector as an AFI1/SAFI1 route and the RR installs the route into the appropriate routing table (if applicable - inet.0 in the case of Juniper) who in turn advertise this route out to the other PE routers on the network.  This works perfectly.
However, when said prefix is withdrawn, the PE sends an MP_UNREACH_NLRI message type 4 (SAFI4 or labeled-unicast) withdraw message out to the route-reflectors which doesn't result in the route being flushed on the Juniper route-reflectors since the prefix does not exist in the Juniper's inet.3 table, rather in the inet.0.  On the Cisco route-reflectors the route is withdrawn correctly.  See attached trace for more details.
When the prefix in question is labelized, the insertion and the removal of the route works perfectly on both Juniper and Cisco, since the Cisco withdraw message correctly targets the correct routing table on the Juniper (inet.3).
In order to resolve this interoperability problem, it would seem that Cisco would need to send an MP_UNREACH_NLRI containing both an SAFI1 and SAFI4 withdraw message as Juniper seems to do, even though this is not openly recommended in RFC 3107 or in RFC 2858.  I assume this to be the case, since Juniper-Juniper labeled-unicast works flawlessly.
    Any ideas?
    Kind regards,
    Andrew

    Peter,
Thanks for your reply.  Please see CSCui82452 for more details.  The only workaround that currently exits is to use 2 different loopbacks to establish two different BGP sessions BGP sessions to each of the RR -- one that does labeled-unicast only (send-label AND a route-map to set mpls-label on the appropriate prefixes) and the second one for all the other IPv4 address families.  It's certainly not pretty especially if you have a 3rd BGP session for IPv6, but it's the only workaround that exists.
P.S.  I spoke with Cisco today regarding the following problem who told me that "it’s a difficult and risky fix & that’s why Development team kept it this way. So, I assume that if this behavior is to change, it won’t happen any time soon."
    Kind regards,
    Andrew

  • NetMail problem

Hi, has anyone gotten netmail to reliably perform ldap address lookups?
We are running the iplanet portal server with sp 2 installed.
(I am reposting this, since I haven't seen a response from anyone at sun
    or elsewhere)
There appears to be a problem with the netmail client in performing ldap
lookups for email addresses. It will sucessfully return a list of email
addresses who's real names begin with brian, but does not return
anything if you do a lookup for my lastname. Other searches work for a
particular last name but not certain first names.
Has anyone experienced this ? It doesn't seem like a configuration
    problem.
On one of the failed queries, we performed a snoop and did see the ldap
data returning to the iplanet server, but it never showed on the java
client (and it does throw an occasional exception).
Also, once this does work, is there a way to get it to return the
persons real first and last name in addition to the email address ?
So has anyone gotten LDAP to work from NetMail? If so, I'll assume it is
an odd configuration or interoperability problem.
    Thanks,
    Brian

There are some known problems with the applets and the Mac in 3.0SP2. Many
of these are fixed in SP3 which is now available. The Mac requirements are:
    MacOS 8.6-9.1
    MS IE 5.0
    MRJ 2.2.3
SSL connections do not work with the self-signed certificate. Any other
    certificate can be used.

There is a problem when trying to run NetMail (java applet) from the
MacOS systems that have tried it. They are running Netscape
Communicator 4.73. The window "NetMail runs from this browser window"
does appear but the applet never launches on the Macintosh, no error
    messages are reported.
Has anyone else experienced this, or successfully run NetMail from a Mac ?

  • Cat Express 500 & 2950 RSTP & PVST

    Hi,
    I have a Cat 500 connected to a 2950,
    on a 802.1q trunk.
The Cat 500, seems to be running RSTP and the 2950, is capabale of only pvst.
The port seems to go into blocking state in the Cat 500.
After changing the Cat 500 to run IEEE STP, the problems I was having with ports being blocked disappeared.
Can anyone suggest what is the best approach when running a Cat 500, connected to a Cat 2950 ?
Do I need to enable MST on the Cat 500, so that it can interop with 2950 ?
If I have only thses 2 switches, is the best option just setting both switches to use the same STP mode ?
    Thanks

    YES,
the best option is to use the same STP type/mode throughout your environment.
rapid-PVST+ is interoperable with PVST+. when the two exist, the rPVST+ switch reverts to PVST+ unless you are running dual STP instances, one for rPVST+ and one for PVST+.
again, if you can run the same STP mode, please do.

  • Can I dock my windows Laptop with IMAC?

    Hi,
This would have been a no possibly even 3 years ago, but with the development of common software protocols allowing a flourishing application market, is it now possible for me to dock my Windows PC with a new IMAC. To the extent that the MAC is actually driving things using its OS.
    4 Reasons:-
The first reason for wanting to use the Apple OS, is the fault of my overzealous company security settings which when in full flow like they are now on "Virus Scan Thursday" runs up about 90% of the RAM to the point is can take 5 minutes to open a basic forecasting sheet.
The second one is:- after using IPAD day to day for the past three years I can honestly say its one of the most intuitive devices to use, especially Numbers and Keynote. No more googling for formulas. To make my point about its simplicity, I draw your attention to Excels Autosum function which i'm sure you can remember is the Sigma symbol, so poor a symbol is it, that MS have to translate and scribe the words AutoSum in every common language known to man next to it, you opted for the = sign.
The third reason is:- Windows just seems so thrown together now that it might, and quite often does stop working and self destructs. A little bit like the Vauxhall Victor X type did in the 60's. Let me explain what I mean. Take the three next gen consoles on the market, Sony PS4, MS XBOX ONE, and the Nintendo WII U. My boys and are fortunate enough (my bonus payment not so lucky) to have the latter 2-following subsequent visits from a white bearded fellow. I like the shooty brash environments that are driven up in games like COD, which to be fair is the only real game on XBOX ever that I've played since getting over the shock that I could connect with other people over the planet and play them. Anyway before I run off track onto a rose-tinted day when me an my brother would divide the screen up into two sections using cardboard. When playing Goldeneye on the N64; one of us laying prone, one of us sat in an inflatable plastic sofa, both pair of eyes glued to the action on their OWN PORTION of the screen. The cardboard acting like the plastic piece separating two battleship players, neither one knowing the others position. But for the Xbox that's about it, the other games developers don't seem to get the game-play over graphics argument. In the case of some its either far-far too complex for concern, I'm thinking about those driving games with the flash cars and exquisite level of detail in the telemetry and how that car handles. Realistically how many of us have the time to play a full 24 hour Le - Mans - Grand Prix with all of the automatic, car control gadgets switched off. To the complete opposite where the game-play is sooooooo simple, take the reboot of tomb raider which took around 12 hours to clock with all of the collectables. Then you have thousands of apps to contend with. Zune, Music player, etc all bolted onto a bastardised win 8 setup. Then look at Nintendo, and its OS its refined and things seem to work, the published games are always excellent and playable by any age. The new Yoshi wool world looks amazing but it has the complexity of the stardome on Mario world.
The fourth and final reason is, it would probably save me 5 - 10 minutes a day swapping files over email etc etc... But, Its 5 minutes more I can spend with my boys practising their footballing skills and acting out their other ambitions, so that one day they don't have to worry about the appalling 1st world plight of interoperability problems between Windows and Apple! which like Oasis and Blur from Britpop England in the 90's and Love it or Hate it Marmite, realised that being ever so slightly different and arguing a bit about the relative merits of the new stuff, cautiously publicly insulting each other whilst really being squash buddies would ensure massive success for both of them!

I work for a large healthcare system that has a very large LWAPP deployment. We utilize the network for laptops, 7920 IP phones, and the new 7921 phones. We have HP laptops with Intel wireless cards. We have both the HP 6120 and 6320 laptops with the Intel 2915 and 3945 Intel wireless abg clients. There has always been a beacon interoperability problem between these intel clients and lwapp. This has been a huge issue that neither Intel nor Cisco has wanted to deal with.
The problem has finally been resolved with LWAPP code release 4.1.185.0. I upgraded my 4404-100 controllers to 4.1.185.0 to fix some possible arp issues I was seeing on our new Cisco 7921 phones. Not only did it resolve the arp problem, all my Intel problems went away.
It was interesting because I did the upgrade the night before I had HP and Intel engineers onsite to troubleshoot the interoperability issues - we were giving them one more chance to resolve the issue before we were probably going to switch to a different laptop and wireless card that had a proven record for working with LWAPP - like Thinkpad with atheros.
When the engineers arrived, the problem could not be reproduced - constant drops off the network and wild roaming (we have a very dense AP deployment (1232 & 1242 APs).
We recretaed the problem by downgrading a controller to 4.1.171.
I am extermely happy that we finally found a code to support the laptops and is also still compatabile with our 7921 phones. We have about 200 7921 phones we are deploying on 802.11a. We plan on keeping the data on b/g.
I am posting this just in case other people have similar issues.

We upgraded the WLC to 4.1.185 and we changed the power settings on the Intel card from the default to MAX.
Do a right click on your PC--->Properties---Hardware--->Device Manager--->Intel Wireless--->Properties--->Power Management.
Here is the straight talk from the Intel site:
If the wireless access point (AP) or broadband wireless router does not properly support the PSP feature, intermittent loss of wireless connection, inability to initiate a wireless connection, or poor wireless connection data performance could result. The symptoms may be more pronounced when on battery power.
    Cause:
In a mobile environment, power save polling mode is a feature for extended battery life for mobile stations. The capability requires coordination between the AP/router and the laptop's wireless adapter for proper operations. Intel has discovered the feature may not be implemented correctly or completely in some wireless access points or wireless gateway devices.
    Solution:
Contact the AP/router vendor for updated software or firmware that corrects the problem.
As a temporary workaround, manually set the wireless adapter to CAM (continually aware mode), which disables the PSP capability. To do this, in either Intel? PROSet/Wireless Software or the Network Control Panel Applet (NCPA), in the power management section, uncheck the DEFAULT / AUTO selection and set the slider for HIGHEST / MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE.
    Notes:
To ensure the adapter is set to CAM - if the slider is already at the HIGHEST / MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE setting, move the slider to another setting and then back to HIGHEST / MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE.
    Hope this helps.
