STP render file could not be written

Hi, I'm on STP 3.0.1 and trying edit a sound track that is ~20 min long. All I'm doing is putting together this voiceover track from multiple takes that were captured before and I'm laying them in the timeline, cleaning and doing minor tweaks. It's pretty straight forward. Everything worked fine until half an hour ago. I started getting an error message "render file could not be written". I'm using an external drive (Glyph) which seems to be working fine and I have 1.3 TBytes on it free. I have no idea what's going on. Anyone can help?

Anyway, is the Drive you're saving this to or using for Scratch MacOS Extended, or Fat32 format?
Have you Verified/Repaired all the HDs involved, including your boot drive, (not Permissions, but the Drive Directories)?
Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.

I'm working with an Illustrator file in CS2 and after a certain point it has started saying 'the file could not be written due to an error' when exporting to a jpg.
i've tried a couple things like deleting layers and although the file is much smaller, it still says the same error when exporting.
at its highest it was 130mb as an illustrator file and jpgs were 2-5mb.
i''ve tried copying some of the layers into a new file but the error report still comes when i'm exporting.
i have vector and raster based data in the file and tried turning off/deleting either of the layers and there is no difference.
i don't understand why it's started doing this because before it had no problem at all exporting before.
ANY IDEAS ANYONE? I'm trying not to have to reproduce days of work to remake the file.

Sounds like you know a good deal about this product. Is there any way to restore a color profile/setting to an earlier point?
I don't recall changing it and to tell you the truth, wouldn't be able to say which it may have been set to before - if different.

TS1424 Has anyone encountered trouble transferring rented films to their iPhone? I get error message "iTunes could not copy [film name] to the iPhone because the file could not be written"

I have dowloaded a film to rent. Downloads to iTunes without problem. However it does not transfer to my iPhone.
At first it appeared on iTunes as though it should be on my phone (it definately wasn't).
Apple Support sent me film to download again.
Tried to transfer it again tonight and the error message I get is: "iTunes could not copy [film title]Spy to the iPhone because the file could not be written"
Can anyone help ASAP

Two possibilities come to mind.
Check your source hard drive for errors, right-click on the drive holding the library, click Properties, tools, check for errors, scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors...
Or...
Repair Security Permissions
Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.
If it won't let you change the permissions use the Owner tab to take ownership from an account with administrator privileges.

ITunes could not copy ''file'' because the file could not be written

Recently, I have been experiencing some problems with iTunes and my iPad 2. Whenever I try to sync movies into my iPad, I get the error message ''iTunes could not copy ''file'' because the file could not be written''. This message always appears whenever I try to sync a few movies at once. When I check my iPad after it's synced, I find that a few of my movies successfully sync into my iPad, and can be played. However, some movies show up on my iPad but cannot be played. The video thumbnail just shows a picture of a blank TV screen. Is there any way where I can fix this problem? Thanks.

I was having the same issue with music and movies but it had been ok before. The sync would freeze on a random file and then i had to take out the USB cable to clear it. After trying all sorts of things i saw someone mentioning about Anti virus and firewalls. I am using McAfee so i disabled it as a test. After this i could sync music and movies without issue!!!!! So in my case the firewall/anti virus was causing a problem. McAfee updates itself a lot so I am guessing something has happened in a recent update that impacted iTunes.I am not sure if this kind of thing is also causing your problem but it sounds very familiar.

I have had to format my PC running windows 7, and reset my ipad 1 to factory settings, i then installed latest itunes on the PC authorised the PC and re downloaded several movies via itunes previous purchases, all was well until i tried to sync the ipad to the PC, only some of the movies synced onto the ipad, otheres stalled the sync stating itunes could not copy "name of movie" to the ipad because the file could not be written. Help! Getting error "The file could not be written" when exporting

When I attempt to export a group of approximately 50 photos from LR4, a window opens at the end of the process saying "The file could not be written" along with a list of approximately 10-15 NEF file names. I have never had a problem exporting before, but I recently started storing my LR catalog and files on an external USB 3.0 drive. I'm looking for any suggestions!
Here are the details:
LR4 with latest updates
Win 7 with latest updates
LR catalog and photo files stored on external USB 3.0 G: drive
Trying to export to a folder on my desktop on C: drive (46GB free out of 134GB, solid state drive)
LR files are NEF, exported files are JPG
I've tried to export to the same group of photos multiple times with different names and different output file sizes (8MB, 5MB, 2MB). Each time the list of failures is different.
Some of the thumbnails which appear in Windows Explorer are corrupted (part of the thumbnail is gray)
When I try to export the same group of photos to the external USB 3.0, it works perfectly!

following error message is struggeling me quiet hard:

repairing, de - & reinstalling Secude brought no solution. First the pin caching window appears and after entering the error message.

"File could not be written" Lightroom 4

I am running the latest version of Lightroom and have suddenly, just today, started getting this error. Nothing about my PC has changed. I can't export ANYTHING to anywhere on the C drive. I simply get the error message "the file could not be written". After looking through various forums, they seem to suggest it's a permissions problem. I am the only user on the PC and am also the administrator - I can't see how permissions would be the problem. I don't know what else to try...?
I am running Windows 8 Release Preview 64bit with latest version of Lightroom.
Other PC specs:
AMD FX-4100 @ 3.6GHz
16GB DDR3 RAM
Asus 560 Ti DIRECTUCUII @ 930Hz
168GB hard drive (Ancient)

Okay, this is odd. I think the problem might be that Lightroom didn't like the file I was using. It was an old JPEG. The reason for this being I processed some RAW files I took today and they exported with no problems straight to the C drive as TIFFs. The photo I had issues with, Lightroom would not allow it to be exported anywhere on the C drive, I could export it to a USB stick but no where else. Odd. Is this a common occurance??

You need to set the permissions for any folder you are exporting to <Full Control> in Windows or <Read and Write> on a Mac.
The permission needs to be set for the user account that you use with Lr.

Make sure you have permission to write to the output folder and that there is enough space on the disk.

hi, please help! i am having problem with adobe flash player installation, i have read previous discussions to see if that would help, but it was in vain.
i have windows vista 7, (32bit) .

I am a system admin and I have all the permissions, i even deleted my standard user, and guest accounts.
from the discussions that i have read, and tried i have noticed that no one have the problem that i have which is: when i go to C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash, the only thing that is there is Flash11e.ocx, which i can't even read. so please if you can please help.
I've had this PC for 2 1/2 years, so its kinda old, and i has gone though alot including being recovered to previous times.

Could you quote the entire error message, word-for-word, verbatim? What Import settings are you using ... Copy, Move, Add?
Most likely you have a permissions issue, but it will be much more clear to me if I can see the entire message.

Trying to copy items to another drive - 'Data could not be written' error.

I'm trying to copy the contents of one external drive to another by FW400 and I keep getting these error messages saying that a particular file could not be written, yet when I try to copy the individual file it copies ok.
I have 'ignore ownership on this volume' check for both drives.

ITunes sync problem: file could not be read or written

I am running itunes 10.5.2 on OSX 10.7.2 on a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook
A week ago i did a so called "clean install" on my Mac, making sure to back everything up on one external drive, and clone the disk on another before beggining. I started with snow leopard and then installed the upgrade from the app store. I then reinstalled all of my software, loaded my photos, setup my preferences and devices, and finally directed itunes to the media folder on my external drive.
I had been using the external drive for itunes for a couple of years: on the previous system and even my previous desktop, with no problems whatsoever.
All my songs apps etc. showed up and there seemed to be no issue.
Then I tried to sync my iphone 4s and it started off okay, but about halfway through the message "could not sync ___ song to iphone because the file could not be read or written". When i located the song in question it was where it should be and even played properly in itunes. The second try would bring about the same error only with a different song. This went on several times before I realized something was really wrong.
I made sure to change the permissions for all itunes folders, music folders, even the external drive itself to have read & write permissions for all fields, and checked the box to include all internal files. I also tried resetting my iphone, syncing through another usb port, and running permissions checks on the main drive.
Thinking it could be a broken hard drive, I tried moving my aperture folder to the internal drive and all 30 GB transfered no problem. But when I tried to move the itunes folder to another drive, it stopped midway through and the finder gave me "error -36" saying that some song could not be transfered because "the file could not be read or written".
In case it helps I have included the Console log from on of my attempts to syc.

I had this same message appear today when i was putting new music on my ipod touch 4th gen. The only difference is that I wasnt using an external drive. I was using the one on my computer. This is the first time i have had this problem

I have an iMovie project in iMovie HD 6.0.3. (Mac OS 10.5.8)
It plays, but I cannot copy the file (including saving it to a flash drive). I get either a message
"the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in [name of
iMovie file] could not be read or written (Error Code 26)" or the
message "A project file is missing. The file [name of the QuickTime
movie inside the project.dv] couldn't be opened and is being skipped."
This happened suddenly, I was able to save a backup version numerous
times while working on the project.
I followed some of Karl Petersen's advise on apple discussions. I opened
the package contents, and everything seems to be there. The source file
(original QuickTime movie) is there and can be opened and played. I
replaced the current project file with the backup in the package
contents, but that did not change anything. I was able to export the
movie timeline into a new project as a single clip, but would like to be
able to copy the current project.

Make sure all drives are formatted as "Mac OS Extended". (Journalling preferred, but not necessary).
