Straight line shows across screen

I just went to listen to my 5th gen ipod after like 3 days of it sitting in my jacket, possibly a few hours in the cold car and when I went to turn it on, there was a straight black line across the middle of the screen. The line is only there when the backlight is on--can't see it at all without the backlight. The line seems to be pixellated. I know I didn't drop it or anything. Could this be caused by it being in the cold car for a a few hours? Any way to fix it or is my 3rd ipod in 5 years now dying too? This one is already a replacement from the apple store after the last one died 1 month out of warranty.

I have lines across my screen also. They are all jagged. At first I thought it was a scratch until I realized you can only see it with the backlight on. It happened in May of '08 and was just one line, now there are a bunch. I did not drop it or leave it anywhere cold. We had just gotten on a plane for vacation, I turned it on and there they were. They have progressively increased since then. Everything plays fine (except movies since the lines interfere).
My ipod was brand new, not refurbished. It is out of warranty since it's several years old already.
A very curious problem.

    - See if placing the iPod in Recovery mode will allow a restore.. It bypasses the passcode (and erases the iPod)
    - Next try DFU mode

  • Line going across screen

The other morning when I first picked up my phone I noticed there was a small line going across the tip of my screen. And since then it has grown, and shrinked and it does this several times throughout the day. I hadn't updated my phone so I went ahead and did that, yet I still have the line. I've tried doing a restart on it and the line still shows up. Has anyone else had this problem and have anyway of fixing it?

hey.. did you manage to get rid of those growing gray lines? I have a 2g and facing the same issue, they seem to be growing every day and I have about six lines now.. really annoying..

  • Fine white lines going across screen Horz.

I was working a iDVD project lastnight and left it working on it as I was sleeping. When I checked on it this morning my DVD had burnt fine. However I noticed that my display had 2 fine white lines going across the screen Horz. down about 2 inches from the top of the screen. I did a shutdown and then powered on again and the machine started up fine but the lines are still there.
Anyone have any suggestions on what I can try to trouble shoot this problem before I call Apple, the machine is still covered by AppleCare.

Vertical Lines on My iMac ;-( Doesn't look so pretty with them.
Apple has a service program for (now at least) earlier iMac G5's within a specific Serial # range. Here is a link to see if yours qualifies....
    http://www.apple.com/uk/support/exchange_repair/imac.html
Otherwise, I suggest a call into Apple and make a formal complaint and get a case #. Yours isn't an isolated case, if this particular issue is reported enough times then Apple would be foolish not to extend the service program to cover all iMacs that are faulty or defective.
Asking customers to pay for expensive repairs to faulty parts just a little time out of the standard warranty is not good for their business. They need to step up and sort this out.

  • IMac Won't Boot, Colored Lines Streaking Across Screen, Fan Always On High

iMac G5 1.8GHz about 80% on the time won't boot past blue screen (never makes it to login window) and freezes. Colored lines and dashes streak across the screen during grey Apple/gear screen. Fan comes on full blast immediately and never modulates or shuts off (hard drive fan at 1800 rpms) CPU temp 45°. Any ideas?

Yup, see if you qualify for these: Rev A and Rev B repair extension.

  • Horizontal White Line Right Across Screen iPod Classic 120GB

I bought an Apple iPod Classic 120GB 14 months ago. I have looked after it very carefully (it hasn't even left the house) and only used it sparingly. Last week an annoying horizontal white line appeared right across the screen. I have tried all the recommended including resetting it.
Having trawled the internet forums and asked at my local Apple franchise dealer this seems to be a common fault with the screen hardware. I gather I can expect more line to appear over the next few weeks. I followed Apple's online repair procedure and once I ticked the box for 'screen problem' there is another drop down box with about 4 options. One of these refers to horizontal or vertical lines across the screen so Apple must be aware of this fault. At the next stage I was advised that I must pay approx £95 before the iPod could be repaired or replaced.
I subsequently phoned their Customer Services Department in India to ask why I was being charged so much for what was clearly a manufacturing fault and was told that they had no authority to offer discounts for repairs. Having asked to speak to someone who could help I was put through to Apple in Ireland.
The person I spoke to again repeated that Apple would only repair the iPod if I paid £95. He claimed it was a very rare problem but they were aware of it. I suggested that if this was true, surely they would want to replace or repair the iPod free of charge or at least for a reasonable price. The answer to this was no. I asked how long they expected iPods to last as 14 months did not seem very long. He said that he couldn't answer my question. I would have thought that it was reasonable to expect a life cycle of nearer 5 years for an high quality mp3 player. I feel that if an iPod fails after only 14 months it is hardly fit for purpose.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

this is the exact same problem as mine (mine is classic 80GB) :[
it started happening out of nowhere, for no reason too. it happened 10 days ago, and ive had it for 2 years 3 months
in addition to the line across my screen, there are some scattered dots above it that move around everytime i turn off my ipod and turn it back on, which is really odd and at first funny but now just very sad.
please please tell me if you find a solution (minus the huge fix cost), and/or email me at [email protected]

  • Colour lines appear across screen of iPad

    No accidents, or misshaps.
Just appeared and won't go away with any attempt to reset.
    Heard $410 to repair.
    has anyone found a solution
    Appreciatively,  harbourlights.

If they are like little streaks across the screen, they are probably dead pixels. Have you had this iPad for a long time? Usually this happens with older devices. I don't know of a way to fix this but if you heard that there is a way to repair is, and you think you want to do this, go ahead. But typically I would suggest that if this is an important thing, you should get a new iPad...
    Sorry that I couldn't help.

  • Blue Line moves across screen in Newsstand

While reading some publications, I am getting a blue line about an inch wide that continually moves across and back on the page while I'm reading. What is causing this?

Did you restore your phone with an OS of at least 10.2.1? Anything earlier than that will not run Android apps.
    Cheers.

  • Blue line runs across screen but Skype (and other Andoid apps) crashes and doesn't open

The headline says it all really. I was forced to restore to an earlier saved version after problems associated with contacts. Amongst the many issues now is the inability to run adroid apps, whether ported on not. Not happy. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Straight line problem in n8

i have purchased nokia n8 two months before, now it shows a straight thin line in my upper screen and also the touch keypad buttons and other menu bar colour changed to light black, does anyone facing similar problem nd how to fix it, video quality is nt same after it

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
What happened to your N8 before it shows the straight line on the screen? Is there any instance that you accidentally drop your phone? Note that this can be the caused of the issue. In this case, you need to send your phone to the Nokia Care Point to have it physically assessed by the technicians. In addition, charges may apply for the out of warranty phones.

  • I suddenly get Ghost lines appear across my while using Clone or History tool about every 4th click!

While I'm using the Clone or History tool suddenly a straight line appears across my picture I'm working on. It's the width of the diamiter of the tip size I'm using at the time. It pops up from anywhere on the work space and connects to my curser where ever I happen to be on my next stroke when I click again. to get rid of it I need to "un do" enough to make it dalete but if working quickly I've lost some work  and thus need to redo it. VERY non-productive!! Help!

Could you also give some information about your computer? You could post part of your system information (and REMOVE YOUR SERIAL NUMBER).
Usually, making sure that you installed the latest updates for  Photoshop, the Operating System and Graphic card drivers fixes most issues.

  • My Imac is showing gray screen with red line when booting and restarts again

My Imac is showing gray screen with red line when booting and restart again, I can load it in windows 7 safe mode with red lines across the display, pls help

The graphic card is damaged. You can't do anything more than taking your computer to an Apple Store or reseller and getting your graphic card replaced.
Sometimes, when the graphic card is damaged, operating systems can't start. That's caused because the drivers that make the graphic card work detect an error, telling the operating system that the graphic card is unusable, so the operating system can't start and it restarts. However, you can start in safe mode because operating systems use a basic driver in this startup mode

  • My G5 screen has faint lines going across it??

My G5 screen has faint diaginal lines going across it, but when I am on the internet it is crisp and none of the lines show up??? Has anyone else ran into this?

Could be the first signs of either a failing video card, or a failing screen.  Try running the Apple Hardware Test that came with your install discs.
