Straight Talk is supported as of Jan 11: Questions

I know many have modified their iPhones to work with Straight Talk.
Today it is officially supported by Straight Talk.
A couple of questions:
I know of the MMS and visual voice mail limitations (or supposed limitations) and they don't bother me.
However there is apparently a soft 2 GB limit on the $45/month unlimited plan and it appears that LTE speeds are not available.
Are these 2 things true?
Also can anyone confirm that Straight Talk is using Verizon's network the the iPhones Wal mart is selling.
Thanks in advance.
Perry

I talked with StraighTalk.  About 6 robot given choices and I did get to a live person.
Although he didn't know he was helpful and checked.
My 3 questions:
Is there a slowdown after 2 GB now that you support the iPhone officially.
A: Yes still a slow down.
Can I port over my TMobile number?
A: Yes,
Can I get LTE speeds on the Verizon network with ST?
A: No
So ST has the same data that you do.
Thank you for your help.  I will get my wife and I an iPhone but will purchase it through Verizon as the speed and throughput (I will buy the 2 phone 10Gb/mo Plan) are important to me.
Thank you again for your prompt and accurate help.

  • Can i buy an iPhone at a pawn shop and get it unlocked for use with Straight Talk wireless?

Just wondering if I can buy a used iphone at a pawn shop or on ebay and get it unlocked for use with the prepaid Straight Talk wireless service? If so, how much would it cost to get it unlocked?

PHones can only be unlocked from the carrier; if you're looking for an unlocked device I'd recommand buying it directly from Apple as that is the only way to promise it is, if you buy it second hand you may find it is locked to a carrier who doesn't support unlocking, or worst yet activation lock

Hey you guys. I am new to the iPhone forums. So please forgive me if I messed up. Now I bought and iPhone last year through straight talk, and needless to say the service I got was horrible. And I read online that Staight Talk iPhones come factory unlocked. So my main question is can I take it to AT&T. Thanks you guys and I will appreciate all the answers I can get.

Number one - that person has given you false information...the Apple store genius bar supports all Apple products whether in or out of warranty.  Checking is free, service on an out of warranty item is not free.
Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.
Since you show that you have iOS 7.0.3 you might want to update that iOS to 7.0.4...plug the iPhone in so you are on a solid power source, then while on a WiFi go to Settings > General > Software Update and update to 7.0.4.

  • CAN'T ACCESS INTERNET AND MMS WITH STRAIGHT TALK (...

I made the switch to straight talk unlimited plan with my E5 today. So, I activated it and I can make calls and SMS... cannot access wifi, web browser nor MMS. After being on the fone with customer for about an hour I still have no data. They sent me these input values but, I don't know where to put them (and neither do they):
Please click here or visit www.straighttalk.com at any time to browse our website for information and instructions on how to get the most out of your Straight Talk. To complete your Activation, create a new APN with the following values:
APN Name:  Straight Talk APN:            att.mvno Proxy:          proxy.mvno.tracfone.com Port:             80 MMSC:         http://mmsc.cingular.com MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33 MMS Port:    80
Delete the current APN from your phone. Reboot your phone.
I never had another APN on my fone because I had AT&T prepaid and it was all handled by the SIM card.

Have a look at this screenshot for Internet:
Have a look at this resource and amend accordingly:
    http://www.h2owirelessnow.com/images/pdf/ManualConfigurations011211.pdf
    For MMS try this:
    Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Destinations
Add New. Say no to “Automatically check for available access points?”.
    Choose “Packet Data”
Enter any name you like. Maybe “STMMS” ?
    Choose “Multimedia msg.”
Now you need to go into “Internet” and find the access point you just defined.
    Make the following changes:
Change “Access Point Name” to “att.mvno”.
    User Name: None.
    Prompt Password: No.
    Authentication: Normal.
    Use Access Point: Automatically.
Now you need to press Options > Advanced Settings.
    Set the following options:
    Network Type : IPv4
    Phone IP Address : Automatic
    DNS Address : Automatic
    Proxy Server Address : 66.209.11.33
    Proxy Port Number : 80
    Exit.

  • How to unlock my verizon iPhone (contract over) to use it with straight talk?

My contract with Verizon has expired I would like to use mi iPhone with straight talk some people told me that I have to unlock my phone…please help me with real solutions!!!

You can't. The Verizon iPhone 4S can not be used with any US carrier other than Verizon. If you want to use StraightTalk, sell the Verizon phone and buy a StraightTalk iPhone. They are a supported CDMA carrier. Neither StraightTalk, nor Apple support using an unlocked phone on Straight Talk.

  • How can i get my iphone on straight talk to send and receive mms?

I have an iPhone 4 on straight talks network. I have never been able to send or receive mms messages to anyone other than a device with iMessage.  How can I get it to work?  I dont want to change to a Galaxy or any other kind of phone, but I will if this doesnt get figured out.  Straight talk says its an issue with Apple products. Please help!!

    Hey Jstugelmeyer,
First, I would go through these three steps:
    Restart your device.
Update to the latest iOS Software.
If you are trying to send a message to multiple recipients and you type in each contact manually instead of using the contacts list, make sure you tap return instead of space to separate each one.
Then, if you still can't send or receive MMS messages:
To send and receive MMS messages on your iPhone, verify that your wireless carrier supports MMS2.
Ensure that MMS Messaging is turned on in Settings > Messages.
Verify that your phone is able to access cellular data.
Some carriers allow you to edit your APN (Access Point Name), which may prevent MMS from working.
If you are roaming outside your calling area, make sure you have Data Roaming turned on in Settings > General > Cellular to send or receive MMS content.
While on a phone call, you will be unable to send or receive MMS messages when using an EDGE, GPRS, or any CDMA cellular data network. After the phone call ends, you will receive any incoming messages. If you tried to send an MMS message, you may need to send it again.
If the issue persists and your wireless carrier has confirmed that your wireless account is provisioned2 for MMS, restore the iPhone.

  • Can I use the iPhone 6 t-mobile version with straight talk?

Can I use the iPhone 6 t-mobile version with straight talk?

    All,
I have read and understand most of the post (s) on this: Apple Support Community:
It looks like the long way around my elbow approach: (piecing together an iPhone 6+ with a Straight Talk AT&T /T Mobile; Compatible Nano SIM Card) may yet work, just a bit gun shy on the $949.00 cost for the iPhone 6+ from Apple.
I live in Hawaii on the island of Oahu (north shore), and have  an iPhone 4 8gb cdma iPhone which is on Verizon's network rebranded by TFW / Straight Talk for several years. It works fine but I need an iPhone with more storage.
I have had a talk / chat with both sides Apple & Straight Talk, neither have real answers to support using the iPhone 6+ with Straight Talk as a carrier.
On the Apple site: " http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/ ". It is clear that Straight Talk has certified their LTE network with iPhone 6/6+ to meet basic standards.
I / we need all of the successful trail braisers on this community to post what works & what does not work.
What I plan / have to purchase / buy:
    Direct from Apple:
    1. Contract-free iPhone 6 Plus 128GB Space Gray (GSM) T-Mobile. (pending research to ensure it will work). Apple confirms, without the T Mobile nano sim that this iPhone is unlocked.
    Direct from Straight Talk:
    2. AT&T /T Mobile; Compatible Nano SIM Card. (GSM; on its way)
Would have purchased a Verizon Nano SIM Card from Straight Talk but they do not seem to have one.
All support, advice & information is greatly appreciated.
    V/R

  • Can i use the iphone 5s with Straight Talk?

Can i use the iphone 5s with Straight Talk (Walmart's plan)?  Straight Talk uses GSM technology....
    Thanks!

The StraightTalk iPhones are CDMA phones. Not GSM. StraightTalk does not support the use of unlocked iPhones on their pre-paid GSM service.

  • Does anyone have an iphone 5 through straight talk?  How fast is it compared to standard Lte carriers?

For two years the cost ends up being the same, but since the phone is bought outright it would be cheaper if held longer then 2 years, but if the speed is substantially slower may end up going with verizon or at&t.  Thank you for any input.

You won't get any LTE support on Straight Talk.

  • Straight Talk iPhone 5 without a SIM card, no data

I have an iPhone 5 from Walmart on their unlimited Straight Talk plan. This phone does not use a SIM card. If I do not have a wifi signal, I cannot use any data and cannot send picture messages. Straight Talk support has not been able to help. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Also, I've upgraded to os 6.1.3. So I can't jailbreak it either.

I still think it's related to operator settings. Did you follow all the instructions here http://iphone.straighttalk.com/? Especially the following.
To activate your service, go to straighttalk.com/Activate or call 1-877-877-1986 from another phone. You will need the MEID Number (also known as the Serial Number) which is located on the red Activation Card and on the bottom of the iPhone box in the IMEI/MEID field. You will also need a Straight Talk Unlimited Service Plan, which you can purchase at participating Walmart stores or with a credit card as part of the Activation process.
After completing the Activation, you will need secure Wi-Fi access OR a computer (requires PC or Mac) with the latest version of iTunes and an internet connection. To begin, simply turn your iPhone on, follow the prompts, and then choose a method to set up your iPhone:
    • Using Wi-Fi: Simply select “Use Wi-Fi” then follow the on-screen prompts. When you receive the “Carrier Settings Update” pop-up, make sure to select “Update”; the phone will return to the main screen as the update runs in the background. This process can take up to a few minutes, depending on the speed of your Wi-Fi connection. Note: No SIM card is required for your iPhone, so disregard any messages asking for one.
    • Using iTunes via a computer: Simply open the latest version of iTunes on your Mac or PC computer, then connect your iPhone to it using the USB cable that came in your package. Once you read and agree to the License Agreement, sync your iPhone with iTunes. You will receive a pop-up asking if you would like to download an update for your carrier settings—select “Download and Update.” Note: If you receive an alert saying there is no SIM card installed in the iPhone—simply ignore and select continue. No SIM card is required for your iPhone.
** After completing the setup, you MUST call *22890 from your iPhone to program it.

  • Help getting my Unlocked Galaxy s5 Active onto Verizon Straight Talk!

I have a unlocked Galaxy S5 Active SM-G870A from AT&T. When I compared it to a regular Galaxy S5 they both have the frequencies needed for both GSM & CDMA. Also looking in the phones settings it can be set to CDMA/LTE and more. (A unlocked Galaxy S5 is supposed to work on any network)  But Straight Talk would not let me activate it with the Verizon CDMA SIM in my kit. I contacted Samsung and the conversation is as followed..
Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Aiden'. There will be a brief survey at the end of our chat to share feedback on my performance today.

    Aiden: Hello, Wes.
Aiden: I am sorry to know that the Verizon SIM is not working on your AT&T unlocked S5 active. I will check for the available options on our end with this issue.
Aiden: Thank you for the model number.
Aiden: Before we go ahead troubleshooting the issue, I have a few questions to help me understand the issue better. Shall I go ahead?
    Wes: Yes
    Aiden: Thank you.
Aiden: Is the device unlocked officially from AT&T?
Wes: Yes I had it unlocked from AT&T. Straight Talk made me put it on AT&T
Aiden: Are you getting any error message when you insert Verizon SIM card in your phone?
Wes: Straight talk would not activate it as a CDMA. It is working on at&t but at&t isn"t as good as Verizon where I live.
Aiden: Please contact your carrier so that they will check the carrier profile settings on their end and assist you further with it.
Wes: They (straight talk) told me it was first active on at&t so they can't activate it for CDMA
Aiden: Unfortunately, we don't have an option to activate carrier on your phone from our end.
Wes: Should the phone work with Verizon?
    Aiden: Yes, you are correct.
Wes: I was wondering if the "A" at the end of the model # is showing the phone to be at&t only phone.
Aiden: SM-G870A is AT&T specified device and when unlocked from AT&T, you should be able to use it with Verizon.
Wes: Ok thank you I will contact at&t and ask them for more info on it.
Aiden: Sure, you can do that.
Aiden: You can get back to us with the same Chat session if the issue persists, so that the chat history will be saved in our records and you need not explain the issue from the beginning and our agents will pick up where we left off.
Aiden: This chat session will be saved in our records for future reference and the ticket number for this chat session is: ****. Please save this chat ID.
Aiden: We are available 24 hrs, 7 days a week.
Aiden: I am positive that the issue will be fixed when you reach the carrier support.
    Wes: Thank you
Aiden: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
    Wes: No

On this link comparing the s5 & s5 active if you scroll down the page a little to where it shows the phones "TECHNOLOGY" they are almost identical. On the phone if I enter *#*#4636#*#* it gives me the option to switch it to just about any frequency there is. LTE/GSM, LTE/CDMA, GSM/CDMA,CDMA only, GSM only, WCDMA, EvDO, LTE only, and a few others. And after Samsung looking the phone up and telling me as long as it is unlocked it will work on a CDMA network is hard to dismiss. ithttp://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Samsung-Galaxy-S5,Samsung-Galaxy-S5-Active/phones/8202,8665

  • IPhone 4S bought "unlocked." Worked with Straight Talk, not in France.

So I've had my iPhone 4S for a while and never had problems. Brought it to Straight Talk over a year ago after buying it unlocked on Amazon. Now I'm studying abroad for 6 months and I decided to buy a new SIM card and just use it here. So I bought a SIM card from Orange today. But... it says my phone doesn't support the SIM. Why?! It's supposed to be unlocked. Can anybody help me here? I'd rather be able to use my iPhone in France than buy a temp phone.
