Strange air logs in WLC 5508

Hello,
there are a lot of entries in the logs like the ones I show you:
- AP's Interface:1(802.11a) Operation State Down: Base Radio MAC:58:bc:27:be:63:40
Cause=Radio interface reset. Status:NA
- %RRM-3-RRM_LOGMSG: rrmChanUtils.c:290 RRM LOG: Airewave Director: Could not find
validchannel lists for 802.11bg
any one have an idea of why they are appearing?
The scenario:
APs 1142N in HREAP
WLC 5508
RRM: DCA automatic 24h and power automatic 600s
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
Do you have the right country code support selected on the 5508 for the types (regulatory domain) of 1142's that are being referenced in the messages?
that's kind of what this looks like

  • Manage AIR-AP1262N with WLC 5508

    hello,
is it possible to manage a air-ap1262n with a controller like wlc 5500 or wlc 2500?
the official cisco support could not answer me this question for sure.
i have found this old guide to upgrade ap´s to lap´s, but there is hothing about the 1260 in it.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html
i am a little bit confused!
    the cisco documents tells:
    "at_a_glance_c45-636090.pdf"
    ->
A wireless network with standalone access points offers a low-cost, entry-level
solution that does not require a controller. It is ideal for small-scale networks with less
than 20 access points, and offers base-level wireless functionality with the flexibility to
scale and add services over time by adding a controller.
    <-
but the cisco helpline tells that they cant say it for sure - they cant find anything about that it would work and nothing that it dont work.   ...and they have no one they could ask!^^
now I hope to find an answer
    thanks and greetings
    erik

    Hi,
As mention by Steve, download the recovery image and then upgrade the AP IOs using the archive command over the CLI and instead of using the IOS image you use the LWAPP.
The supported AP is set by the code the WLC has and not the model of WLC.
The 1262 APs are supported starting code 7.0.98.0
Here is the link where you can check on all the release notes on different codes for the WLC, and you can see which APs are supported on each code.

  • Why WLC 5508 shows message " Operator changed to 11g mode" & AP is rebooted

    Dear Sir,
I have faced some problem with Cisco 1520 Series APs.
Since few days, We got the log in wlc 5508 like this
    "AP 'MAPNSY#WMI3', MAC: ac:a0:16:5c:45:00 disassociated previously due to AP  Reset. Uptime: 0 days, 00 h 22 m 52 s . Last reset reason: operator changed 11g  mode."
    & then AP is rebooted.
Here, I attached the screenshot of WLC 5508 Log.
    Plz, help us.

Not the IP addr of the management interface.. I am telling about the Dynamic AP manager interface that you have configured which is for the AP to register..
    Please post in the output..
show interface summary (mentioning the interface used for APs to join)
    Regards
    Surendra

  • WLC 5508 and AIR CAP 1602I

    Hello,
We've got a problem with the AP (AIR CAP 1602I) which is managed by WLC 5508(7.4.100.60)
Users connect to the AP with VOIP phones(Avaya).. and there are following problems during calls
    -robot voice
-strong noise(even if call is not made, just speaker is on)
Strange thing is that there is no problem with older APs which are managed with the same WLC.
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance

Well that can be a cause also. I would look at using 7.4.110.0 which is MR1. If that doesn't help, then open a TAC case as it might be something else. Going to v7.5 I don't think will fix the issue.
Many times I would go the the manufacture and find out if the support a certain code or not. It's nice when they do test to make sure it still works. Some manufactures do test and will suggest code versions and that's when you have to decide if the 1602 was really needed or just keep adding 1262's since there was only 3 added.

  • AIR-CAP1602i cannot join a WLC 5508 controller

    Hello,
I'm managing a large number of access points on a Cisco wlc 5508 controller.
We've recently purchased a bunch of new AIR-CAP1602I-E-K9.
note that we already have AIR-CAP1602I-E-K9 and other models in production.
These A.P are not able to join the controller for some reason, I've tried a lot of different things but I am now at a loss.
I have checked the regulatory domain, upgraded the FUS, manually upgraded the software version of the LAP to match the version on the other A.P.
I even downgraded/upgraded the WLC code (version 7.4.x and 8.0)
I use the dhcp option 43 to to send the controller IP.
Here are the info that can help:

  • WLC 5508 with version 7.0.98.0 and AIR-LAP1242ag

hi, recently i have deployed wlc 5508 with ap 1262. initially i had trouble with the existing version on the wlc (6..0.199.0) which AIR-LAP1262N-E-K9 was not registering with wlc. i have upgraded the wlc to 6.0.199.4 ver still it was not registering. finally i have upgraded to 7.0.98.0 and all the 40 AP's ( AIR-LAP1262N-E-K9 ) are addedd and its working fine.
Now my issue is, at the same site i have 12 nos of AIR-LAP1242ag autnomous AP's which i need to convert to lightweight ap and register with wlc. where i am stuck currently. after loading the recovery image (c1240-rcvk9w8-tar.123-7.JX9.tar) the ap reboots and can see it register with wlc within seconds contollers pushed the new image and once the ap reboots, never register again.
    does anyone has any idea?

After adding the country codes GB and RU.. in my test setup 1242 is registered...i will have it run for couple hours and see the result

  • WLC 5508 and AIR-LAP1042N

    Hi everyone!
Question is simple, but I cannot find it in google.
    Does WLC 5508 support AIR-LAP1042N?
    Reagrds,
    Aleksei

    One more question.
What poe injector is supported on AIR-LAP1042N?
I have found poe injectors for other APs.
    1.AIR-PWR-B=
    2.AIR-PWRINJ4
Will anyone of these support this AP?

  • WLC-5508 logging to syslog

It appears that there are two different types of log information generated by the WLC-5508.  The stuff that can be sent directly to syslog seems to be very basic while most of the good log information is sent via snmp trap.  Does anyone have this setup to log to a SIEM in a manner that gives a good security view into the wireless controller?

    Mike,
Have you tried to change the logging level on the wlc? There are multiple levels of logging that can be set on the wlc. On the wlc GUI, you can check the current logging level by navigating to this page - Management > Logs > Config > Syslog Server. Under the "Syslog Server", you can change the level of logging.
If you set a logging level, only those messages whose severity is equal to or less than that level are logged by the controller. Note that setting a higher logging level on the wlc might result in more logs sent to the syslog server.
    Regards,
    Nagendra

  • Clean Air - WLC 5508

    Hello
Do I need to buy additional license for clean air to work, currently my BOQ cover
    WLC 5508 with 50 AP license  ( part no : AIR-CT5508-50-K9 )
    20 AP ( model 3502  )
    Redundant Power supply
LIC-CT5508-50  ( is this required to be mentioned )
Also I would like to understand are there any better model than AP 3502 & newer WLC model than 5508 ( I would have application users accessing application via Wireless LAN )
    thanks
    ST

Thank you Scott for the guide will have a look at that.
5500 series WLC got 8SFP uplinks hence;-
Can we Group 2 or more SFP for a specific SSID only configured on WLC and other SSID to route traffic from other uplink ports
Uplinks from WLC to Core are generally configured for failover or link aggregation
On WLC there are 5 SSID configured for example , the AP installed in HR room should broadcast only ONE SSID ( is this possible )
    thanks

    1. Upgrade the Primary controller and reboot- wait till all APs associate with primary controller and download the new image
    2. Upgrade the secondary controller and reboot
    3. Failover the APs to secondary controller and test

  • Updated WLC has strange error log and AP's not joining

Hi we recently updated all of our WLC's to 7.098 and it all went smoothly, controllers rebooted and AP's updated their firmware and rebooted OK.
One WLC (4402) which was working fine since the update now has no AP's associated. The AP's were all configured to run in HREAP mode and are on remote sites within our WAN. I have checked that all policies and ports are still open (none have changed anyway) but the AP's can not join with the contoller.
The log from an AP trying to join with the WLC.

Strange. Something must have happened that you didn't notice.
From the logs, it looks like only lwapp requests are arriving at the WLC. And WLC discards them cause it knows the AP can also do capwap so it's waiting for the capwap join packet.
As next step, I'd take a look at network traffic. Mostly close to the WLC where we want to know if we are receiving capwap discovery/join from the AP or not.
