Strange app

I have a launchpad app that is acting very strange.
I can't move it to another page and the icon that it had before has changed to a new unknown icon (at least to me).
What is going on and how do I fix this?
BF

Have you tried just rebooting the computer?
If that doen't help, there's two ways I can think of might solve this problem, depending on whether the fault lies with the app or with Launchpad.
One is delete the app and re-install it.
If that isn't possible (or doesn't work), you can reset launchpad back to default by pasting this command into Terminal:
rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db; killall Dock
Be aware that using this command means any special folders or organisation you've created in launchpad will be lost.

  • Curve 9300 - Strange App Appeared - "AlternateApp"

A strange app has appeared on the applications screen (press and hold BB menu key and 6 icons are displayed).  Alternate App is a blank icon and does not appear to do anything.
Anyone know what it does and how I can get rid of it??
I wonder if it is anything to do with running Android apps on the Playbook as I have found a reference to "AlternateApp" connected with that.

    Hello,
What happened just before this icon appeared? A new app? An update of some kind? Something else?
Does a batt-pull reboot cure it?
I've seen that type of icon before, and as I recall it had to do with QuickPull...for some reason, sometimes QP would not load up properly during reboot, and that icon would be left behind. Another batt-pull reboot would normally cure it. I'm not saying that it's QP in your case...it's entirely possible that some other app could exhibit the same behavior.
I doubt it has anything to do with your suspicion...your not running any Android apps on your 9300, are you?

  • Strange app icon appearance in library

    Hey there,
I noticed a strange difference between the appearance of the app icons in my library (1st screenshot) and on the iTunes store (2nd screenshot). Can somebody else duplicate this issue. Any ideas to solve this?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

Yes, this is a glitch in which some of my friends have been having lately With the iOS 8 update. I believe there is no solution to this at them time, but I am sure that Apple will release an update soon with millions of bug fixes.
Does the Application still function correctly though?

  • Strange App Store issue...

In the iPad section of the app store there used to be a "Quick Link" at the top right that took you to a section for iPad games. It is no longer there. When I click on the Hot Games icon (or pick "games" from the app store drop down menu) it takes me to a selection of iPhone games. I accidentally bought two iPhone games last night thinking I was in the iPad section. I can't find a way to get to the iPad-only section. Something has definitely changed in the last two days. Anybody else notice this?

If you are talking about iTunes app store tab, mine still has the 2 buttons for iPhone / iPad.

  • Strange App Folder Issue

Out of 300 machines in the whole building, I have a lab that does not show a specific App folder in the start menu. When the same user logs in on a different machine, it shows up for them there.
I can't figure out why, I've even reimaged the machines back to base and still it happens.
Has anyone else ever seen this issue?

One of the other folders is in the same OU, the others are located elsewhere. It boggles my mind that it only happens to those machines and no others within the building. And its only the start menu, if I set it to Desktop shortcut, it works

  • Strange app icon

    Hi all,
I am new to this community, hope everyone is well!
The icon of one of my apps has suddenly gone missing, as shown below. I have already tried the following but does not work:
    Restarting iPad
    Reinstalling the app in iPad
Reinstalling the app using my PC's iTune
General | Settings | Reset | Reset Home Screen Layout
I would really appreciate if someone could let me know how to solve this issue. If possible I would prefer not to reset my iPad.
I have been researching this problem for quite a while. Apology if this question has already been answered in an earlier thread.
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Strange app appearing suddenly?

When I was using my iphone 5s to check email, the apple logo suddenly appeared and it seemed like my phone was rebooting it self but it returned to normal after 5 seconds to where I was before the apple logo appeared.
And when I went back to my home screen I noticed this new/updating(?) app that appeared! It only says "waiting" and I have no idea what it is or where it came from. And I can't seem to be able to delete it.
    Please help!!

    Do a
Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data

  • Odd app delays

I have 2 apps that have a delay before launching: Snapz Prox 2.2.0 (SP) and Now Up To Date's: QuickContact (QC). SP is launched when I boot and is for screen shots and QC is a menu item in the upper right corner that accesses NUTD's contact database.
When I launch SP via the assigned keys, I hear the it's launch sound immediately, but then the window you get to choose whether you want to take a screen shot or record a screen movie takes about 5-10 seconds to appear. After this first time and delay, when launched I get the sound and window instantly, until next time I boot up.
I have the same one-time delay with QC. When I select the icon in the upper right window, I get the beachball for around 5-10 seconds and then I get the QC search window to search the database. After this first time and delay, QC launches instantly as expected until next time I start up my Mac.
Not the end of the world. Just a tad frustrating and odd since I have a pretty fast computer, lots of RAM. I'm running the latest versions of both apps. SP techsupport has had a couple complaints, but not enough to allocate the resources to find and fix it. Don't blame them, actually.
Since it happens with 2 apps, I'm wondering if it is a system issue and if there is a fix that some one may here may know of.
    Thanks,
    Steven

Knowing what the app's icon looked like isn't particularly helpful. What was it named?
If a strange app has appeared on your iOS device, someone may have hacked your Apple ID and used it to download that app. This could, depending on your device's settings, cause that app to be automatically downloaded on your device. Note that it doesn't matter if the app is free... often, hackers will download a free app so that they can extract purchase data from the free app and embed it into a more expensive app in order to steal it... without associating their own Apple ID with the pirated app.
Check your purchase history. On an iPhone, go to App Store -> Updates -> Purchased. On an iPad, go to App Store -> Purchased. By default, apps will be listed in order of purchase, with the most recently purchased sorted at the top. If you see apps on this list that you know you did not download, and that nobody with access to your Apple ID downloaded, then this is confirmation that your Apple ID has been hacked.
In the event that you have been hacked, you will need to immediately log in to appleid.apple.com and change your Apple ID password. While you are there, you should also enable two-factor authentication on your Apple ID, to prevent hackers from taking control of it, and potentially locking you out of your iOS devices permanently.

  • Strange whoosh every 15 minutes iPhone 4S

ok, I saw this question before but no answer yet, so I'm asking again. My Iphone 4s plays this wierd whoosing sound every 15 minutes. It's NOT the same wooshing sound as when mail is sent. It's not any sound that comes preinstalled with the phone. I have tried everything short of deleting all my apps and resetting the phone to factory settings. It's not mail, texts, notifications, messages, or location services, and the phone is not set to do anything every 15 minutes that corralates with the noise. When I have the phone set to vibrate and/or light flashing the phone then does all three every 15 minutes. it's driving me crazy. At 9 minutes, 24 minutes, 39 minutes, then at 54 minutes. OK, so turn the sound off you say......that's easy, and yes, that works, but if I want to watch HuluPlus, listen to Pandora, music, or Podcasts, then every 15 minutes whatever I'm listening to fades out and the mysterious WHOOSH takes over. If the phone is on vibrate, every 15 minutes my pocket vibrates and the screen remains blank. So, at this point I'm convinced it's one of my (many) apps and I'm looking to see if anyone else has this problem and has figured out a solution. Please help before I end up in the nuthouse...Thanks
BTW, it's been going on for about a year and not associated with any peticular version of ios
    iPhone 4S, iOS 6

A whoosh sound sounds like an app is sending a message, or trying to tell you something.
( funny sounds always end up being rouge apps)
To doulble tap the home button and see, or close down everything in the task bar.  See if the noise stops.  If that does not do it, open settings and look at each of the notifications that you might have turned on.
It's in there somewhere.  there was a great thread last year on strange app sounds. From mr. luigi.

  • How can I find an older backup of my iPhone?

Please help I have  iPhone 4.  Today I decided to install iOS 7.0.2 by plugging it into my computer, since I was having soo may problems with iOS7.  Anyways I had backed up my iPhone to my account on my computer previously and it showed all my apps, etc.  When I went to update the software it asked if I wanted to back it up I of course clicked yes it looked like it was backing up just fine, but then it gave me an error 6 that said it could not restore my phone.  After going through all the trouble shooting tips the last one was to restart my computer I did.  And when the computer turned back on it said I had to restore phone to factory setting then log into my iTunes account since my phone had not been backed up in 16 weeks.  Now I don't know how long ago I backed it up last but I know it was sooner than 16 weeks.  Any ways I then restored the back up to my phone, and only some of the information and apps were backed up.  It is strange apps that I have had on there for over a year maybe even two years did not get put back on, however pictures that I took yesterday are still on my phone please help I have alot of importnat information saved on allot of those apps like password app and one note.
Is there a way I can restore my phone back to the settings even if it was from a few weeks ago when I last backed up to install iOS 7.
Not sure if it maters but I always back up to "this computer" and not "iCloud"

I have done a new backup (iCloud) of my new iPhone (5S) and I can't delete the backup of the old one (5). Why ? How could I delete this backup which is usefull now ? iCloud tells me that the backup is still in use...

  • IPad (3rd gen) losing wifi connection during BBC iPlayer downloads

    Hi,
I am having a strange, app-specific problem with my iPad 3rd generation (wifi only, 64GB) running iOS 6.1.3.
When I use the BBC iPlayer app (version 2.0.5.33) to download a TV show to watch offline, my iPad almost always loses wifi connection a minute or two into the download, and it stays disconnected until I go into Settings > Wifi and select my home network again. If I resume the download in iPlayer, the same issue will typically recur within a minute or two.
I am not having any other connectivity problems with this iPad, and other sizeable downloads (e.g. from iTunes, from the App Store etc) are not having the same issue. Similarly, I can stream live BBC iPlayer content without issue - it is just the iPlayer downloads that seem to create this condition (which then effects the whole iPad / all other running apps).
I have tried to "forget this network", resetting network settings and restoring my entire iPad - none of these have stopped the issue. Interestingly, during restore of the iPad I received ugly BIOS-esque messages relating to AppleBCMWLANCore, which have disappeared after a hard reboot (power + home buttons together) - does this indicate a problem with the iPad hardware itself?
Anyone else experiencing something similar? Any suggestions to fix this? Or am I dependent on the BBC updating the app?
    Cheers,
    James

    Hey James,
I would try out standard third party application troubleshooting and see if that resolves the Wi-Fi issue. :
    1. Update your device software
    2. Check for app updates
    3. Install another app from the App Store
    4. Restart the application
    5. Restart your device
    6. Reinstall the affected application
For more info on each step, check out the full article:
iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
If none of those steps work, then you would want to contact the developer of the application for further assistance.

    David

  • Slow boot up

    hi
i recently networked my computer with another to share files and the internet through a router, before i did this my boot time was around the 30 second mark with five programs at  startup, now with the same programs although the other computer is turned off and there is no networking present the boot up takes about 15 seconds more please advise!

    Hi
That could be a can of worms, maybe just a registry entry set up while networking, that OS is trying to follow, have a look in Task Manager and see if any strange Apps or processes there. Use add/ remove progs to see what is loaded, and remove garbage. It could be Adware or spy prog, a lot of them about, run Spy sweeper or similar to locate and remove. I use both Spy Sweeper and Evidence Eliminator, because they are easily configured to keep the stuff I want, while at same time being ruthless in removal of nasties. I run both once a week. After a normal week, there are up to 60 -70 spy progs, and in the region of 7000 files in Internet cache, cookies, registry, and other places. Most of these files have no connection with where I have been, and are just pirating the comp. If left for any time, they will seriously slow your computer. I have remote Router/Modem with Firewall, ec, etc.
All your virus ware up tp date?  Try another AV prog to see if it picks up something, I know when I used AVG, the free prog from, http://www.grisoft.com it found several viruses lirking in the system that Norton System Works 2004 had missed.
I also use Diskkeeper, which defragments in the background all the time, so as disks are always in top spec.
Result,  see where my comp lies in the Folding Team List. more recruits needed.
