Strange attachment + Word problems

I've had this problem since I first got my Mac a few months ago. Whenever I send a Word attachment from Mail and the recipient (whether Mac or PC-user) opens said attachment, the Word doc has somehow been magically transformed into the original mail message.
Reading over that, it seems a little unclear, but it's pretty confusing. For instance, I sent a paper to one of my professors. When she opened the .doc, instead of finding my paper inside, it was the text from the email conversation where the attachment had originally been enclosed. It was sent as a Windows-friendly attachment, but even fellow Mac users have reported this same phenomenon with my emails.
Any ideas? Suggestions? This is really annoying, since as a college student I have to be able to reliably send .doc files from my computer.

Are you including the .doc extension with all Word attachments?<</div>
Yes, and the .doc never changes on my hard drive. It appears as it was when I saved it, just something funny happens during sending apparently.
Are you adding attachments below all message text including your Signature if one is used?<</div>
Unfortunately, yes - I thought that might be the problem, too, so I made sure that I stuck it at the end. No dice, though.
If you are using RTF for message composition, try using Plain Text instead<</div>
I'll have to try that next time, I hadn't considered that being a problem. Maybe that'll solve it!
P.S. My Mother, older sister and her family live in Knoxville (Farragut) and I spent this past Christmas there. Visited the Apple Store at the Mall to buy my niece some iPod accessories.<<</div>
It's a small world, eh? I didn't even think about visiting the Apple Store. They've always been helpful before, so if Plain Text doesn't solve it, I'll take it there and see what they have to say.

  • Mail attached word files exit to the right

Now I've upgraded to Lion on my MacbookAir, on one particular e-mail in Mail when I open its attached Word file I sometimes see it briefly then it seems to disappear to the right of the screen.  When I try to scroll it back again it flashes up but then shoots off back to the right again.  Seems I can only read it if I download it and open it in Word.  Any clues what causes this and how to stop it ?
Also, any way if you're composing an e-mail in Mail you can move the e-mail window around the screen or else go back to the Mail / other app main winodws without first having to save the e-mail you're composing as a draft first ?   I used to be able to do this running Mail in Snow Leopard.  Just realised this is to do with not viewing in full screen mode, so this second problem solved.
    Thanks.

  • I have a strange 3g data problem.

I have a strange 3g data problem.  At home I have zero 3G connectivity even though all bars are showing and says "3G" and wifi is "Off" ... unless I am on the phone and then magically the 3G data connection works perfectly!!  Does anyone have any idea what is happening?  Also when I bring my phone to my dad's or my friends house the problem disappears!! Is this a hardware or a AT&T network problem? os is 4.3.3
Also called ATT and they said there was no problem with the network and that it was a hardware issue.  Also restored the phone several times but the problem did not go away.

OK, no trouble shooting. The first thing I'd attempt is restarting in Safe Mode. If you still don't have luck try doing both a SMC and PRAM reset, it wouldn't hurt to do the SMC reset a couple of times. If still no luck let us know.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • MS Word Problem

    Hi!
I use MS Windows XP (SP 3), MS Office 2003 (v. 11), and Acrobat 9 Professional.
I am having problems with MS Word.
First, it takes a long time to load a document. Second, when I close the document, I get a message that the system has encountered a problem and asks permission to send an error report. If I choose "Don't Send." it closes the document.
Whatever the problem is, the real problem is that is affecting other applications. I cannot use Acrobat to convert the document to a .pdf file.
    Please help.
    Thank you.
    Doctor T.

Sounds like you may have some macro in WORD causing a problem, but it appears to be a WORD problem not an Acrobat problem. For PDF creation you can print from WORD to the Adobe PDF printer. If the PDF Maker is not working and you want to go that route, open Acrobat and use Help>Repair.

  • Attaching Word and PDF files in Mail without preview in the middle of a message

I am using Mail but often attaching Word docs and PDFs. Word attachments appear as small icons, but PDFs as preview and usually in the middle of the message. Can I attach PDFs as small icons and not in the middle  of a message? Having just moved to Mac from PC I am missing the tidyness of Outlook, but if you can help me I'll persist.

I found this solution in a previous thread:
    1. Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal)
    2. copy and paste this line after the $:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes
    3. hit return
    4. you may need to restart Mail for the change to take effect, it worked for me without restarting Mail.
    5. to change it back you would do
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool false

  • No option to attach word file or PDFs to mail servers

    Hi
I have iPhone 4S and configured gmail account with it now  I couldn't  attach word file or PDFs to send. I could b able to attach images and videos files without issues
It's very urgent please suggest a solution ASAP

The only thiong you can access from within the native mail app is the Photos app (images and video). To send another type of file in an email, you need to start from the app you use to store or read the file, typically by tapping the action icon (box with an arrow) and selecting Mail.

  • Embed Attachment (Word / Excel / JPG / BMP ) in a Smartform or Adobe PDF ?!

    Hi everybody
Can we embed an attachment (Word / Excel / JPG / BMP ) in an Adobe PDF Document thro ABAP ?!
    Or
Can the attachment be embedded in a Smartform and then convert the OTF to PDF ?!
    Appreciate a quick reply !!
    Thanxxx
    Jibu

That's what I forgot to add to my previous reply. As far as I know, this is not (yet) possible for Smartforms. And what do you mean by Adobe PDF?
The methods I know for doing this are only available for AIF:

    Go to VA02
Select drop down menu System>User Profile> Own data
Go to Tab- Parameter. enter parameter ID-SD_SWU_ACTIVE  & Parameter value X
Save. now u will get an attachment icon in top left of screen on sales order screen when u go to VA02. click this and u can attach MS word, Excel or Auto cad documents

    Hi,
... I would ask this question in the Forms-Forum instead of here ...
Have a look at WebUtil: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/webutil/webutil.htm

  • HT6117 Hi I want to attach word documents to yahoo mail app  and some job portals using iPad  I don't know how to attach it can u ppl help

Hi I want to attach word documents to yahoo mail app  and some job portals using iPad  I don't know how to attach it can u ppl help me thru this issue

would I be able to "upload" (not sure how else to say it) my existing folders and subfolders containing all my emails so that they are all available on my new IMAP service, while still being available on my Mac?
Not easily, no. There's no direct transfer option between POP and IMAP, especially across email providers. The best you could do would be to forward all of your emails to your new address, although it's not clear that you need to - dropping your sbcglobal.net account doesn't instantly render all your existing mail void - it'll still be in your Mail client, you can still read it, search it, etc., it just won't be on your provider's server.
I have toyed with the idea of getting a MobileMe account. Would that solve my issue/question above?
MobileMe would be viable, especially if you're interested in synching your various iOS devices. It's not free, of course, unlike Yahoo and Gmail, although you've already discounted them...
I have also toyed with purchasing my own URL, but it's hard to tell from the sites (1and1, Namecheap, etc.) if they come with IMAP email accounts included.
Some registrars offer email hosting bundles with a domain registration. This could be a good way to go. GoDaddy, for example, have a email hosting option for domains you register with them.

  • Mail attachment saving problem

    Hi,
When I tried to save a Mail attachment today I got the following warning:
Mail was unable to save the attachment “File.numbers” to disk. Please verify your downloads folder exists and is writable.
The warning must be wrong because other attachments, even of the same kind, can be saved without problems. I observed that only such files are effected which contain subdirectories like numbers, keynote, etc. and my suspicion is, that the saving problems may come from wrong file reading/writing rights within these subdirectories, that the sender of the Mail may have imposed to prevent unwanted changes to his/her file. May this be so? Otherwise, what else?
    (MacOs X 10.5.6, Mail.app 3.5 and, in this particular case, Numbers08)
Thanks for for help in advace!
    Joe.

    Hi Kappy,
Nothing at all. No error message but no copying either, and no change in the curser appearance when dragging to the Desktop.
When I go to Mail --> Message --> Forward as Attachment, the attachment in the composer window can be saved like a normal file and has an appropriate size, eg. the desired original file seems to be contained in there. However, I have no Idea how to extract the original .numbers file from that.
    Strange, isn't it?
    Thanks,
    Joe.
