Strange audio clicks every 17 0r 18 seconds

Tiny clicks in the audio track, but only when sound is present ie no clicks when no sound is being recorded.
I've re-plugged everything, rebooted, changed IO buffer settings, turned off calendars, internet, Time Machine, everything I can think of that works in the background, and still I get small pfft, click sound every 17 or 18 seconds on a regular basis.
It's got to be something in the system that's working in the background.
I've looked at the Activity Monitor but can't see anything obvious wrong.
Could it be journaling? This is a separate internal 150Gb 10,000rpm drive specifically for audio and I've noticed journaling is on but don't want to reformat unless I have to.
Any help or ideas much appreciated! Cheers.

Fixed!
Just a small mouse click in my Motu PCI Config window and voila! no pfft - thanks pancenter.
Yes my 2408 is being clocked by the Aurora and I did have a 2nd 2408 running successfully with no pffts, but I noticed this morning, while playing with the 2nd 2408 with the PCI window open, that any external button pushing on the front panel overrides the software config and stays that way until the original saved configuration has been recalled.
BTW, I have a 2yr old who just loves to button push and the 2nd Motu is enticingly racked at the perfect height for a good play, so maybe that was it? Probably me though...
It's been worrying me for 3 or 4 weeks or so and nobody else has complained although I knew it was there. It's very hard to pick in a normal percussive track - I was recording some very legato grand piano and only then did I notice that it seemed to be a regular pattern. Then I started the tests.
Luckily for me Izotope DeClicker 2, the new version, cleaned up the piano tracks!
Thanks again Pancenter, you're a champ! Cheers.

  • Compressor Adding Audio "Clicking"

I have run into a very specific error that I can reproduce and would love some help solving or finding a decent workaround. Please note that I am converting 1000s of videos in "DV/DVPCRO NTSC/48Khz audio" into FLVs and the workflow I am using creates the FLVs in one pass rather than two. I much prefer this to creating a two step process where I would render our all the movies once and then re-batch them in a completely different program to create the FLVs.
    Hardware/Software
I am using FCP 5.1.2, Compressor 2.3.1, and Flash Video Exporter 2.1d494 (From Flash 8) all on an Imac Core2Duo 2.0, 4gig.
    Workflow:
All my original footage is in DV/DVPCRO NTSC/48Khz audio. From within FCP, I create a simple sequence that I export via Compressor. In Compressor, I export using Quicktime Components, and select FLV. In the FLV options I select 700kps for the the video and for audio its .mp3 (only choice) and 96 bit rate. (I have tested higher and lower bit-rates and I get the same problem).
    Problem:
When using the above workflow, the resulting FLV has loud audio "clicks" a few times a second... pops... like digital hits. Now if from FCP, I either export the sequence in its native DV/DVCPRO format and then use Quicktime to covert the file to FLV, or I export it directly from FCP using "Quicktime Conversion", there is NO clicking in the FLV file. I only get the clicking when Compressor is involved.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Here is a good tutorial for how audio works. In your case, you want to drag and drop the music track on top of one of your video clips at the frame where you want the music to begin.

    Hi,
9mbs is too high if the discs will be duplicated (as opposed to replicated). 7 would be better. Be sure to compress the audio as Dolby Digital.
Do your color correction in FCP before compression.

  • Persistent Audio Clicks Since Upgrading to Quicktime 7.3

    Hi all,
Ever since i upgraded my Quicktime from 7.1.6 to 7.3 i am plagued with an audio click every time i launch any file with audio on Mac OSX.
    1) Every time i launch a Quicktime movie, the audio makes a distorted click.
    2) Everytime i play a tune in iTunes i get an audio click.
    3) When watching a DVD i get a click everytime i change menu.
This is so annoying and i can't stop it, ive gone from 10.4.9 to 10.4.10 and now i'm on 10.4.11. Apparently an audio fix for 10.4.10 was supposed to sort the problem but it hasn't. The problem is best replicated when launching a video or song that starts from silent.
    Can anybody help
    Cheers

Why do you think iPhoto affects your ability to edit Mail sigs? What happens when you try to run a slideshow? Have you tried re-applying the .7.3 update? Repairing permissions?

  • Strange Problem - iTunes audio clicks and pops when connected to internet

    Hello,
I have a very strange problem.
When I go to play a song in iTunes the audio clicks and pops. Not an uncommon problem I know, but here is where things seem to get strange.
I'm using iTunes on a laptop so I have a little switch which allows me to turn off my wireless adapter thus disconnecting me from the internet.
If I'm connected to the internet the audio clicks and pops but if I'm disconnected the audio plays smooth as it should.
The problem arrived out of no where i.e. no changes made to the laptop like installing drivers or programs.
I'm completely lost at what to do and after weeks of searching online I just had to ask to see if anyone here can help me.
    Thanks

Since writing this article I read that there is a problem with the airport update for tiger 10.4.11, which is exactly what I'm running. This is a pretty serious issue because I can't even listen to streaming music off the internet (via my firebox) without major clicks and pops. I wish I turned my updater of when things were stable

I have bought a new airport express and using it with my macbook (iTunes 10.2.2). I have joined an existing wireless network for internet in my home and with that i am trying to play the music via itunes but there is audio dropouts every 60 secs or so. I am using a set of speakers from kenwood connected to the airport express. The operating system on my macbook is mac os X 10.5.8. i am sure it is not a problem of streaming music online because i have even tried playing music which are stored in my macbook.
Is there any problem with the setting in itunes or quicktime ? Kindly reply...... I am waiting for your valuable suggestion.
Thank you a lot in advance.

I am shocked to have found this same AX audio dropout problem starting TODAY, every few seconds the audio just drops for a couple seconds and then resumes:  Latest software versions of everything.  No iPad, iPhone or Touch.  Internet hardwired to D-Link DES1105 (1000baseT Switch) hardwired to new 80211N AX, AX optical to stereo, AX Wi-Fi internet to basic 1st-gen MacBook operating at 80211G, and an older 'G' AX extender at the far end of the house, away from all this.  The MacBook streaming iTunes is usually 12 feet from AX.  I've used this setup for years of trouble-free AirTunes / Airplay until today.  Today I also found 2 very reliable fixes and 1 way to force a dropout, but first, I read some posts and tried ALL following settings one-at-a-time and restored them ALL because NONE of them helped:  Turned off IPV6.  Streamed to multiple speakers 'Computer' and 'AX' (restored to just AX).  Turned off 'Ask to Join new (WiFi) Networks'.  Turned off Bluetooth (can't live without Magic Trackpad, so glad that wasn't it).  Here's my discoveries:  Lo and behold, each time I click the Airport icon in the Menu (you know it shows you've got 4 bars from AX) when the status switches to 'Looking for Networks' for a second it CAUSES the AX audio to drop out for a couple seconds (it never did that before today.)  iTunes still playing, streaming, AX laser still lit, but the 'PCM' light on stereo and the sound GOES OUT EVERY time I click the Airport icon in the menubar, just like the regular, annoying dropouts.  So, to reduce traffic I quit Safari (3 tabs, no streaming, just Gmail, Google, and Netflix browsing).  Lo and behold, the dropouts stopped altogether.  No other Web apps going (not iTunes Store, Genius, Ping, nothing), so I launched Chrome to the same 3 tabs and the dropouts HAVE NOT RETURNED.  That's right, not only did simply QUITTING SAFARI cure it, and Chrome doesn't contribute to it, but I can demonstrate it just by forcing my Airport to re-scan.  Works for me, written using Chrome.  The other reliable fix is to hardwire MacBook to the Switch.  This is obviously not ideal, but Airplay audio doesn't drop out over Ethernet.  Also, in all my tests, it made no difference whether iTunes did the streaming, or Airfoil did.

  • Hdmi audio clicks

    Hi,
Im using my sony flatscreen as a display for watching movies. Im running the signal with a hdmi after the mini display to hdmi adapter to my denon avr-1912 receiver. When watching movies the audio clicks for a millisecond every 30 seconds. Very annoying! Ive just downgraded from lion, since i fond it buggy and annoying, to snowleopard. Before i downgraded i had the problem, but it was due to me not using the arc out from the tv. After i switched i didnt have the problem. I think the click is a result of the receiver acting as a repeater and the signal gets cut somewhere along the line. If someone can help me, i will be VERY grateful!

Eliminate the receiver to determine if it is the culprit.  Connect the hdmi directly to the tv bypassing the receiver.  No clicks?  Then it is the receiver.
Another idea, lower the volume of the playback and increase the volume on the receiver.  Maybe the audio is being clipped because the input signal is too high.

  • Audio clicks when playback is stopped.

In the process of recording a couple of bass guitars that were Keymapped into sampler instruments, I noticed some strange audio behavior. While playing the new sampler instruments, finger lift off from my MIDI guitar controller was causing a clicking or sucking sound each and every time. (The recorded notes in Logic were allowed to decay naturally and the samples were not looped.)
So I went to the recording in Logic and sure enough, hitting the space bar or numerical decimal would elicit a click when stopping playback. A quick test recording was completed in Digital Performer with the same result. Also a quick test in Logic with the smallest and largest i/O settings. Same problem.
Recording signal into the Mac via Built-in Line input also produces the same clicking. So that removes suspicion for my interface (828mkll with Black Lion mod) which has been a rock-solid performer.
I have 5 GB of Ram. OSX10.5.5, 7200 RPM sata drives, etc.
Is this some sort of core audio issue?
    What to do???

Ok, I recorded each bass chromatically into Logic in real time (not triggering samples via MIDI).
The resulting audio files were opened in Keymap to be converted to an EXS24 sampler instruments.
The lift off clicking noise occurs with both basses but not with factory sampler instruments I play with the Godin LGX-SA.
The point about the spacebar or numerical pad decimal point is that when I use either of these to stop/start playback of the original audio file in Logic, clicking occurs. Uninterrupted audio playback is fine. Interrupted playback causes clicking which should not occur. While attempting to problem solve the funny lift off noise while playing the sampler instruments, I noticed that interrupting playback of the original recording in Logic caused clicking.
I recorded the same bass guitars into DP (not MIDI-triggered samples) through the same interface with the same clicking problem when audio file playback is stopped via the spacebar or DP keyboard commands.
So there are no MIDI messages involved here. The point of mentioning the sampler instruments is just that that was the when I noticed the audio problem. For simplicity sake, if we leave sampler instruments out of the discussion, I am still left with some sort of audio problem.
The same basses played and recorded via Built-in Line input causes the same clicking to occur during interrupted played back.
Somehow. the noise that occurs with finger release from the fretboard is related to the problem with the audio clicking when stopped during playback. Meaning that the audio file is corrupt in some way.
I followed your suggestion of unchecking both play tickboxes in the Sound Effects tab of the Sound preference. The problem still exits.
So in summary, at this time, I cannot record audio into my Mac without some sort of clicking problem when stopping playback. Audio that I record then causes some strange lift off noise or click when played as a sampler instrument. The base problem is that something goes wrong when audio is recorded into my Mac.

  • WRP400: audio drops for 5..15 seconds on each packet error.

    Hi,
On several calls i noticed that the outgoing audio stops for 5..15 seconds randomly.
I'd say it happens on an average of every 5 minutes.
When this happens, i can see that the value after "Call1 Packet error:" increases by one.
Why just a wrong packet may stop the outgoing audio for so long?
...i've much more packet losts (about 3%) but they give me no problem at all.
Since a little and cheaper Handytone HT502 gave me intermittent audio too, but the effect was much better (audio still stops, but in a second it comes back), i wonder if is there something i can do by tweaking the WRP400 settings, I'm still using firmware 1.01.00.
    Thanks.

    Additional Provisioning Parameters
Additional provisioning parameters were added for configuring router/data parameters via open (XML-style) format.
    NOTE
A sample XML profile can be generated by using the profile compiler tool (SPC). For instructions about provisioning, see the WRP400 Administration Guide at the following URL: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/csbpvga/wrp400/administration/guide/WRP400_AG_OL-19688.pdf
Two configurable and provisionable parameters are available to address an issue with voice cutoff. You can adjust the Soft IRQ for Voice settings to suit the deployment scenario.
To configure these parameters, connect to the following URL: http://192.168.15.1/VoiceDebug.asp
Use the syntax shown in the following example, and described below.
    Example:
    softirq_active_voice=0,softirq_polling_cnt=1
    Parameters:
•softirq_active_voice: Enable or disable Soft IRQ for Voice. Valid values are 0 (disabled) and 1 (enabled)
•softirq_polling_cnt: Specify the polling count. Valid values are integers from 0 to 10.
After upgrade, default parameters fixed my cutoff issue.

  • Videos stopping and starting every three to five seconds

I am having problems downloading videos from U Tube and msn. I can't even download videos from the Apple Site. The videos from U Tube stop and start every 3 to 5 seconds. They resume after 3 to 5 seconds. I have downloaded the latest version of QuickTime. I have gone into preferences-advanced and changed the transport setup to custom; set transport protocol to http and post to 80. I have also clicked on the streaming tab; set the speed to one lower than the ISP connection and move th enable instant on slider 2-3 bars from the left. What else can I try?

There is currently no official version of MSN Messenger for Mac that supports video, unfortunately-- you might try aMSN instead, but I haven't used it myself so can't comment on the video support:

However, the built-in camera works fine for me on Skype (and Yahoo last time I tried, which was a while ago), which suggests something else might be wrong somewhere...

  • HT201412 iPad jumps from the start screen to the white apple screen every 2 to 3 seconds and will not stop. Shutting it off and resetting has no affect.

My iPad jumps from the start screen to the white apple screen every 2 to 3 seconds. Turning it off or resetting it does not work. The restore from iTunes will not work due to the fact that I need to click off Find My Devise before I can restore...I can't get in to click that off.
    Any ideas?

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. If you did not do step 4 properly, start all over again.

I've already recorded the demo and have done heavy tweaking.

  • Strange audio sync problems

I was experiencing problems similar to those I've read in other threads here, where AIFF files imported into FCP were gradually drifting out of sync. On my current project, I switched the audio to MOV files instead hoping that would alleviate the problem, but it didn't. Here's the situation I most recently encountered:
I have a 7-minute film which is broken up into three QuickTime MOV files, each file containing both video and audio. I also have the audio saved in a separate audio-only MOV file. When I place the three video segments sequentially in an After Effects timeline and then drop in the audio file, the audio file is exactly as long as the video, to the frame, and it sounds perfectly in sync throughout. But when I drop the EXACT SAME FILES into FCP, the audio file is 10 frames shorter than the video. Listening to it, it the audio file starts almost imperceptibly out of sync with the embedded audio in the video files, but this gets worse over the course of the 7 minutes until it sounds way out of sync (by 10 frames).
Anyone have any idea what's up?

Wow.... funny thing... I've had the same problem for YEARS..... And this is why I'm here... to ask this EXACT same question.....
here's my story.. I work at a computer research facility... we record hour long lectures on our sony HDV Camera...
we also record the un-eq'd audio, for editing purposes, using Logic Express v. 7.1.1 on a Powermac tower w/ a 933 mhz G4 processor... 1 gig ram..... OS X v. 10.4.10....
the microphone interface is a maudio octane preamp into the maudio Delta 1010... w/ pci interface...
This Powermac is dedicated to capturing audio... nothing else.
Right now I'm editing on a dual 3 ghz quad-core Intel MacPro w/ 8 gigs of ram... OSX v. 10.4.11 (won't upgrade to Leopard till the bugs are gone)... But I've been on the top of the line Mac's for 5 or so years... G5's... Dual G5's... Quad G5's..... you name it... and each machine has had the problem (yet to be described)....
    My workflow is:
Raw HDV.... > captured directly into Final Cut Pro... > Import the 44.1 (or 48 khz.. no difference) aif file created by Logic Express on the "Audio capturing Mac"... (16 and 24 bit... doesn't make a difference) ... then I'm prepared to work....
    THE PROBLEM....
I place the video on the timeline.... it's got a stereo audio track with it that is synced PERFECTLY with the video......... then... i place the "un-eq'd" audio on the timeline.... Sync up the beginning frames... the audio and video fit perfectly together at the beginning of the talk...... 30 or so minutes into it, the audio has gradually shifted to being a quarter or so second off.... by the end of the talk.... the audio and video have about a second or more gap between them...
The problem isn't the camera... We've recorded talks for 5-6 years with multiple DV and HDV cameras.... we've always had the same problems..
The problem isn't the "audio capturing computer"... we had a G5 in there, but figured it was WAY too much overkill to have that machine in there just capturing 1, 2, 3, or even 4 audio tracks every couple of weeks or so...
The problem isn't hard drive speed... we've had multiple hard drives.... on multiple machines... no difference....
as far as we can tell... it's not hardware...
I've been to Macworld and WWDC... Talked to Apple's engineers about the problem.... nothing..... I've had apple's video support on the phone.... nothing...
no one in the entire industry seems to know what our problem is....
we've done basically everything you can think of...
The problem is really annoying... but I've been working around it for years.....
    got any ideas?

  • 2509M screen flickers for a split second every 8 to 10 seconds

help. this is annoying. my screen flickers every 8 to 10 second. colorfull static flashes really quickly. help me troubleshoot please. This is awful.

    Hello dustinmulvaney,
I understand you’re having an issue with you HP monitor flickering off and on. I will do what I can to help resolve this problem for you. Some of the things I’m going to ask you might have already done so please just ignore those and proceed.
1st- Please check your connections on both ends to make sure they are tight and secure. Also make sure the pins within the cables are not bent or broken.
2nd- If you can try to attach the monitor to another PC to test. If the issue still exists it’s a monitor issue. There always is a chance the PC is causing this problem.
3rd- On the bottom right corner of the monitor there are some buttons. Press the menu button then toggle down to factory reset.  (Note factory reset doesn't affect your PC at all just your monitor). Don’t be surprised if the screen flickers and goes off and come back on .
4th- Click on the link and it will direct you to a page that will allow you to update the drivers for your monitor. Pick the current operating system that your PC is currently using and see if there is a driver available for it.  Monitor Drivers
Please respond at your earliest convenience.
