Strange audio trouble

PROBLEM on his laptop 8510p. the sound of loudspeakers disappears shortly after starting the computer and reappears at random during the shutdown. it works on the headphone jack. This problem occurred after I connected an external screen on the VGA. I uninstalled and reinstalled all the drivers that I downloaded from the HP website. Have verified that the services were on automatic, the sound was not on "mute." That map was well recognized in the peripheral and in the bios.
sorry for my english and thank's for your answer.

Ron,
first of all, I did it!
I knowingly used the Restore CD not the Software Install CD thinking of getting a very clean, Apple compatible OS install. I now downloaded the OS 8.6 Update, performed the 1.0 ROM Update, rebooted and tried to install the new Firmware - no success.
I was in despair cause I used really the same File for the update on the Bondi Blue (kept it on the disc - but downloaded a new copy - trying both) but with OS 9.1. I tried OS 9.1 and 9.0.4 on this machine before, didn't work either. I installed OS 8.5 due to your advise.
Then I crawled through the Old Software downloads on the Apple site. I found plenty of Firmware updaters. Some in the Multicountry folder which seems to be the one you can still officially download and one - now it gets interesting - in the German folder. Due to having a German OS (what else ;-)) I downloaded this file (D-iMac Firmware Updater 1.2).
I copied it to the iMac and started the Update. OK, the Dialogue is German... who cares...
It shut down and I done the paper clip action. After another startup tone
THE MAC WAS APPLYING THE UPDATE (sorry for screaming)
Now it is 3.0f2 from 1999
Booted into OS 10.2.8 then nvram -p and I see a "mac-boot". Rebooted three times - no Issues.
This is hillarous....... I really used the Multicountry version on the Bondi Blue and a German Mac OS (you cannot get an english, french or anything else here). Working fine. OK, I got this iMac from an Italian Guy but this doesn't say anything, or? Just kidding.
Thanks to all of you and especially you Ron for your Brainstorming. It helped me very much thinking about the Issue......and for all the others out there, sometimes you need a localized version of the Firmware updater for the older Tray loading iMacs...if everything else fails.
Now I need someone telling me how to power on a 10.2.8 timed/automatically like 10.3.9 can do but this is another topic.

  • [solved] Strange Audio Issue

I am experiencing a strange audio issue with my Intel-HDA ICH7:
    # lspci -v
00:1b.0 Class 0403: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Unknown device 30a5
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 22
    Memory at d2400000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
    Capabilities: <access>
when I installed Arch linux the first time a mounth ago on this computer, I had a sound problem that was solved in a very strange way.
Everything worked fine until a week or so (I believe from Alsa 1.0.12). Now sometimes sound works and sometimes it doesn't. For example sometime I boot the computer and have no sound, then I reboot it without doing anything, and then sound works.
I have tried messing with the modprobe.conf:
    # /etc/modprobe.conf (for v2.6 kernels)
    # --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
    # --- ALSACONF version 1.0.11 ---
    #alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    #alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
    # --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
    #options snd-hda-intel model=F1734
    options snd-hda-intel model=z71v
    options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1
but it was useless. If I put back the modules in rc.conf everything is worse: sound doesn't work at all.
A diff between lsmod in a "working boot" and a "without sound boot" showed that the same modules where in kernel memory.
A diff between dmesg showed this difference:
    < hda_intel: azx_get_response timeout, switching to single_cmd mode...
was present in the not working boot. This line is absent in a working boot dmesg.
The only way to make the sound card working everytime is to remove the snd* modules load from the boot sequence and load the modules "by hand" after the login.
    Any ideas?
PS : If something is unclear due to my poor English please tell my and I'll try to explain it better.

phrakture wrote:snd-hda-intel is screwed up - on my thinkpad I had to go into the bios and enable the modem for sound to work.  Oddly enough, the modem was off by default.
Also, mine has no PCM listed, I need to use "front" as my PCM level... not to mention the UI is way off with 'tpb' (if you have a thinkpad)
Yes it's not an Arch Linux related problem: I had problems with Debian (Etch and Sid based distros like ubuntu) too (but there I had no modprobe issue on the init sequence. Maybe is a problem of shared IRQs, but I have to study the existing documentation as I am a newbie). The difference is that Arch is simple enought for me to try something like modprobing "by hand" in the init sequence. PCM seems to work, however the volume is very low and I have found no way to make the mic work. Under Mepis I was able to make it work only if I plugged it in windows xp and then reboot into Linux. But I can't try it with Arch as I have erased the windows partition...
I will try the new kernel, study the documentation and then report. Hoping this will be usefull to others too.

  • Lumia 925, earpiece audio trouble (voice calls)

Background: I am a T-Mobile USA subscriber. Previously owned a Lumia 710, then switched to 810 when it became available. Great products; I've been very happy with both. Two weeks ago gave the 810 to another family member and got the Lumia 925.
I love the 925. The screen is great, the phone is light, and the camera amazing. Except for one thing. The first day I had the 925, I noticed that the audio from the earpiece did not no sound right. While on calls, the earpiece had a nasty buzz to it, sounding like a damaged speaker. The audio quality while on speakerphone was perfect, so I could not blame T-Mobile's network. I took the phone back to T-Mobile and they replaced it, no questions asked.
The second 925 sounded great. The earpiece audio was clear, without any buzzing or audio glitches. I was a happy man and everything was great, that is, until yesterday. Now the second 925 developed a similar bad audio quality during calls, but only from the earpiece. The speakerphone sounds fine, and using a bluetooth headset sounds fine also. It is not easy to describe the "badness" of the audio but there is a significant decrease in quality. The audio level seems to be down; with the volume all the way up, you can barely hear the other caller. The audio also has a buzzy, muffled quality to it, almost as if it is coming out of a tin can, and it is not easy to understand the caller. I tried calling my old Lumia 810 and the sound on the 810 is just fine. The trouble seems to be only the earpiece on the 925.
This morning I went back to T-Mobile and they replaced the SIM card. I'm not sure how that would help, but they said it should help if this is a network issue. That was 5 hours ago and the audio quality has not improved at all. I have also performed a full phone reset, then reloaded my previous settings, but the problem persists. At this point it appears to be a hardware issue, but it is very odd that it happened on the first 925 right away, and on the replacement one as well, but after two weeks. Beside the bad earpiece audio the phone works great. The apps work as they should, and the camera is lovely, but if I first need the device to function as a phone.
I am debating if I should try a third Lumia 925. I am a bit reluctant, as I'm afraid that it might break again. At least now it is within the 30 day return period, but what if this issue happens later? I would love to stick with Lumia but these issues with the 925 are worrisome.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm having the same problem with my Nokia Lumia 925.  Voice in the earpiece audio is otherwise ok but when the other person is saying the S-letter in a word the earpiece audio makes it sound like other person is having a lisp or something. It's really annoying. Same effect comes when other person on the line is inhaling or exhaling. There is this whoosh sound the earpiece is making on S-letters, inhale - exhale sounds and on other low frequency background noices. Phone was like this from my first calls after unboxing. ...
I was thinking how to describe my audio problems with 925 but you did it perfectly! I have exactly the same problems with the S-letters, inhaling, exhaling etc. which makes every voice call more or less annoying experience.
I was thinking to replace the unit but the longer I read this thread, the more I start to think this is "a feature" i.e. bad design and/or poor HW choices. That said, ff this is so common issue, I wonder howcome there wasn't anything about this in those several reviews L925 was subjected to when it was released. Or are the reviewers so busy in testing the 'smart phone' feature that they do not spend time to mundane stuff like voice call quality.
I love the phone otherwise; looks great, has fantastic camera, crisp and cleat display - anyhow, had I known about this, I would have left this to the store.
    EDIT:
    supersape wrote:
I was making a Skype call from my Lumia 925 yesterday and with Skype the earpiece audio was clear and there was no whooshing disturbing the call. So i guess the speaker is working properly in Lumia 925 but the problem might be in 3G/4G reception (or somewhere else) that disturbs the call quality creating this whooshing in a call.
Havent' tried myself but if this is true, this starts to sound like some voice codec issue. ...which would be strange since one would think that the same speech encoding/decoding implementations are used in all Lumias so why would there be problems specifically in 925.
The good with this option would be that it's probably possible to fix with SW update. Provided that Nokia is aware of the problem or better yet, interested to anything about it.

  • I have audio trouble, right output not working

    I have an Iphone 4s..
At first i thought that my headphone jack is not working good, because the left earphone is working and the right one isn't,when i jack it in...
I tryied many headphones just to make shore that it's not something else, but after many tries i realised that the jack is out..
and this evening i went to iStyle to try some Audio Docks, and when i put the phone on it it does play music, but only on the left speaker...
I thought maybe it's the dock, but then i tried three more and it was the same on all of them.. only the left one was working..And now i would like to know please what could be the trouble, and how can i solve it?
    Thank you!
PS: the problem with the jack was there even before i updated to 7.0....

Well it sounds like a hardwrae issue to me but you could troubleshoot the software
Reset the phone first by holding the power button and the home button until it shuts down then turn it back on and try again.
If it persists then backup your phone to iTunes and set it up as new.
If it still happens then it is a hardware issue, and you will need service.
If it does NOT happen when you set up as new, then restore from your backup. if the issue comes back then there is something wrong with your backup and you need to set it up as new again and start from scratch.

  • Strange audio problem

I've created hundreds of DVD's with my current set-up (iDVD 4.0 on a G5 with OS 10.3.9). Suddenly I encountered a very strange problem. The audio sounds fine in iMovie or when I play the .mov file. The volume seems fine--just like any project that I have done before. When I burn it to DVD, however, I can barely hear it with the volume on the TV all the way up. I have the Canopus ADVC-300, which allows me to export an iMovie project directly to a TV. When I do this, the audio is barely audible on the TV. Other DVD's and other iMovie projects play back with the correct volume. What in the world could be causing this? I'm totally at a loss on this one.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's not it. I have been using the same version of Quicktime all along. I have had so many problems after upgrading software that I basically stopped installing upgrades. Also, I produced other DVD's after experiencing the problem with this particular project. It is so strange that the audio sounds fine on the computer but not when played to a TV (either through a DVD or the A-to-D converter).

  • Strange Audio Blip

I have some e-learning where we have a little screen with some audio. Then there is a stop on the timeline. The user can click next and get the next screen.
On some of the screens the audio does a little "glitchy beep" at when it gets to the stop. It doesn't seem to happen all the time and there is nothing I can find in common when it does.
The glitchy sound isn't part of the mp3. When played in external players there is no glitch at the end of the file.
The sounds are set to streaming. When tested in the timeline it never makes the sound.
Local testing also doesn't produce the sounds.
When played over the internet is when we hear it. But if we replay that screen it doesn't happen on the second time.
There is a keyframe with the streaming sound. And where the wave form shows the end of the sound we have put another keyframe.
I'm leaning a little bit toward the glitch being the first few milliseconds of the next screens sound. They are all on the main timeline. We have the stop at the end of each screen and then there is an empty frame and then the start of the next screen. And generally there are at least one or two frames before the next audio starts.
But that seems strange that Flash would stop on, say, frame 1353 and then look ahead to 1357 and start the audio there. Doesn't it?
Anybody else have this issue? Found any answers?

Further digging only seems to muddy the waters.
Adding one extra frame before the new audio begins (there were already 3) seems to make the difference. But then that doesn't really explain why it was doing it. And if extra frames are the answer how many will I need?
I did some digging and there seems to be a 46 millisecond delay built into the way AS2 handles sounds. I'm wondering if it is some kind of timing issue that depends upon the framerate, the number of samples in the first sound, processor load, and the sound card. If so I'm going to have a really hard time coming up with a solution...
    Anybody?

  • Get strange audio from other parts of the video when I am using transitions

In most cases when I add a transition, I get a strange piece of audio inserted during the transition. I know I can go in and manually edit this out, but is there some sort of fix to keep this from happening in the first place?

    Hello, Rick,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Yes, that is a problem that happens sometimes, especially with the Cross-Dissolve transition. I use that one a lot, and run into this with many of my clips. I have 'fixed' it with a variety of methods including muting, putting music over it, adding audio clips recorded from the beginning of the next clip....for this one I have to delete the transition, crop the next clip, remove it to the clips pane, add back the transition and record the audio from the deleted clip using WiretapPro. Works great and actually is faster than it seems.
You might be able to get some correction by trashing iMovie's preference file; Close iMovie. Go to YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie.plist
If you also have iMovie 8, you will see its plist as com.apple.imovie7.plist, so be sure to trash the correct one.
Drag the plist file to the trash. Reopen iMovie and see if it works properly now.

  • Win CS5.5 RAMpreview audio troubles

    Hi
Hopefully this isn't covered somewhere.  I had a bit of a dig, but I couldn't figure any clear search terms and so on.
It's sort of a bug question, sort of a request for advice.
I''ve got this fairly large project I just moved over from AE7 (!) on a different machine.
I used RAMpreview to check the edit and audio sync periodically, as you do, and it was slow but fine.  I tried the same thing in CS5.5 and it had what my mum would call a pink fit.  Sometimes even crashing.  Mostly it would grind away for minutes on end, indicating only 'Background Process Status: Loading Projects...", before it even started rendering the frames.  Then the preview would seem very confused about which frames it had rendered (green and blue frame cache indicators jumping around and disappearing altogether), the playback would be choppy if at all and the whole program becomes slow-to-unresponsive.
By the way, Previewing is fine.  It's only RAM preview with audio that this happens.
The first thing is, turning off multi frame rendering solves the problem and restores the RAMpreview functionality I know and love.  So that's cool.  But I'm still curious as to what's going wrong. I have checked the memory settings guides and reducing the number of cores to use down to two (Quad core Intel i5 system) and adjusting the RAM balance did have an effect.  But the long cruching before rendering and the halting unresponsiveness was still present to some degree.  No multiframe at all is still the most reliable by far.
Secondly, the size of the project is probably important.  This is a big, messy project. 1080 with lots of media, lots of effects, many nested comps. I just did a much simpler project that had audio synching without any hassles using all four cores (which I'm probably better off not doing, but it worked is the thing).  So it's just this project that the problem has appeared in so far.
Is there anything I can or should do about it, some box I haven't ticked somewhere perhaps?
If there's no particular fix, working with multi-frame switched off and then switching it back on for full rendering seems like the thing to do.  Would you agree?
My system is an Intel i5 quad core, running Windows 7 premium with 8gb
    thanks

    Sorry about the delay.
Todd:  Yes, disabling the audio (using those two core settings I mentioned) makes it actually start rendering a lot quicker (and the rendering is noticeably faster with multiframe switched on).  There is a still a period where the program seems to halt while multiframe rendering, I assume, boots itself up.  But I suppose that's normal.  RAMpreview rendering with multiframe switched off begins almost instantly, but it wouldn't have to do any special reorganisation of data in that instance I guess.
When it did manage to render in multiframe with the sound on, the sound and the picture were often jittery and out of synch.  It does seem to be the audio it's having trouble with, yes.
If it's a known problem then I guess it can't be helped much.
Mylenium: Hmm.  I'm not sure I read you right, but for the sake of it I'll say there aren't any effects on this audio track.  The project audio settings are the same as the file itself so it shouldn't be being resampled.  A decent amount of my footage does still have embedded audio but it should be switched off and all the layers in the master timeline have their audio switched off, so hopefully it's being ignored even if any is on by mistake.  That may not be how it works however.
My recent smaller project used pretty much the same working set up and didn't have the same problems.  So I think if it was doing the same things at that point, the smaller project footprint meant it didn't hurt RAMpreviewing as much.  Unfortunately I don't have an intermediate sized project to test with at the moment.

  • Strange audio

Hey all, So I am having a strange problem with audio. When I import a song from Itunes or anywhere else it sounds fine when I play it on my TV. I play the dvd and listen to it on my 2 speakers and it still sounds fine. For some reason when I play it on a tv that doesnt have external speakers the audio sound really bad. Kind of hollow sounding with no base. To correct this problem in the past I would just center up the slider on the audio track which I think just makes it mono. I really want to be able to play dvds in stereo, Anyone have any idea whats going on?

Are the audio mono or stereo on your timeline? If they are stereo both will get affected if you edit either one of them, if they are mono only the one you are editing will make changes. Try to select both tracks of the audio and choose Modify > Stereo Pair or hit option + L on the keyboard.
What else you can do if it is mono you can pan the one track to 100% left and the other to 100% right. Just double click on the audio to load it into the viewer and then you can actually see if it is mono or stereo you're working on because either there will be one tab saying Stereo(a1a2) or the will be to separate tabs saying Mono(a1) and Mono(a2).
    Hope this helps

  • Strange audio problem in Premiere Pro CS6

    Hi
I have encountered a very strange problem. I am editing a documentary film in Premiere Pro. All material has been shot on the Sony FS 100 camera - imported into PP with the Media Browser. In one interview the last part of a clip has corrupted audio. At one point on the timeline the audio stops playing, and it sounds like a scratch on a vinyl record - two words repeating themselves to the end of the clip (See screenshot of timeline). The images are as they should. When I open the Avchd source clip in VLC the audio is working. When i Import the clip into Final Cut 7 using Log and Transfer the audio is working. My only other option would be that there is a software problem with Premiere Pro CS6. Any ideas of how to fix this issue?
    Version PP: 6.0.1
    Source footage: MPEG-4 AVCHD (1080/25p - Sony FS100)
    Version mac: OS x 10.8
Model Name:     Mac Pro Mid 2010
    Processor Name:     Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed:     2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors:     2
    Total Number Of Cores:     8
    Memory: 20 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 570 GTX
    Third-party I/O: Matrox MXO2 with Max
    Mercury Playback Engine: Software mode

One similar, potential problem, that can develop, is when the Conforming process is interrupted, before it completes 100%.
A quick way to rule that out, would be to navigate to the Media Cache files, and Delete the CFA and PEK (Waveform Display) for that Clip, outside of Premiere Pro. Then, when you launch PrPro and Open your Project, the program will recreate both of those files. There is a little progress bar, that many do not notice. Let it complete 100%, before even touching the computer. Test.
I hope that it is as simple as that.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • What could be causing a VERY strange audio lag?

    Hi,
This is a problem that I have begun experiencing in the last week or so and I have found a post on another site of someone who is having the same problem. I'm not sure if it is an update gone wrong but it is nothing I have never seen before in my years of video editing.
    Ok here's what's happening...
If there are two audio tracks (say a stereo music track), when I push play one tracks runs slower than the other. However this is where it gets interesting... One thing I observed (very noticeable with headphones on) is that if it is the left channel which is running slow, when you pause the video and push play again, the right channel then becomes the channel which runs slow. It swaps channels every time you pause and play. With the slow channel, there is also a good half a second delay before it starts after the good channel (and vision) has begun. So if you are listening to music, it will start in the left channel then the right one will come in slower about a half a second later. Then you push space (pause) then space (play) and the same happens but it starts in the right channel.
The computer I have is very powerful and all my hard-drives are internal so I can't see it being a system issue. I also only reinstalled my computer fully a few weeks ago so I know that junk on my computer isn't the issue either. As from other checks, it also happens in other projects, even older ones which I had finished ages ago and never had any problems. The problem actually went away earlier this week but has just come back so it seems to be an intermittent problem.
Very strange... Any ideas or assistance would be great as I have come to a bit of a standstill with this.
    Matt

    Hi,
    Here's the answers:
Where did the audio come from? I have tried a few various methods which all have the same result including bringing in a stereo 48KHZ aif or using footage captured from the tape (stereo only - the problem goes away if they are changed to two discrete mono channels)
How was it copied to the computer and imported to FCP? Either captured in the case of footage from the camera or from an AIF file where it would be dropped into a bin and then onto the timeline.
What format is the audio in? Sample rate? Everything is at 48KHZ.
What kind of sequence are you working in? I only use two types of sequences and it happens on both being HDV - 1080i50 and DVPAL 48KHz Anamorphic.
Is the audio's format native to your sequence settings? Yes, both for the captured footage and the imported audio.
    Hope this helps

Is strange because seems the problem occurs only with this app.

  • Pavilion p6-2310 audio trouble

Basically, the troubles that I am encountering are that if I'm listening to music or watching a vieo etc. the audio will cut in half. Like I can hear backround music but not vocals. Or when playing games, it seems to cut out all audio. Its not a problem with headphones because I've tested different kinds that I know work and encounter the same problem.
I've read somewhere trying to research this saying that its probably something to do with drives and it said to delete and reinstall the drives but I have know idea how to do that on this computer.
    Any help would be appreciated

  • Strange Audio issue on Satellite L650/0FN

I bought a L650/0FN almost twelve months ago and have had trouble with an intermittent audio "buzz" in all audio file types and sources. The problem is now worse in that the "buzz" now appears to blank the screen and freeze the computer with the only way of shutting down being to pull the battery.
I found the following in a forum thread [http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=235672&#235672] and thought it might provide a solution, but when i go to the intel download page the description for this driver is desktop chipsets and I dont find anything on my machine similar to Rapid Storage Technology Drivers so this may be a dead end. This driver seemed to fix a similar problem in the 0ED.

I investigated a litte bit and maybe you could solve this issue updating the iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) V10.1.0.1008.
But before you would do this, you should backup the data from the HDD.
I searched a little bit and the necessary driver V10.1.0.1008.or higher is available for download directly on the INTEL website under following link: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19607/a08/iata_cd.exe "
Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Thanks As***,
By "Factory settings" do you mean the bios settings that came with the computer? To my knowledge those settings are all the same as when I bought the laptop. I haven't changed anything other than loading a few programs ie Word and Photoshop. (Im not sure how to check the bios settings on this machine (?)).
I Don't think i have experienced the "buzz" with headphones plugged in, but again, this is an intermittent problem.
I rang the toshiba service line but the fellow I spoke to wasn't much help unfortunately.
Sorry if my description wasnt very clear I'll try to expand on the problem:
The problem began with what can best be described as a slight audio delay or glitch, sounding like a loud "buzz" or "Brrrrrrr" that would last only a few seconds and replace the sound content. This would occur intermittently and unpredictably when playing various forms of audio (including movies and windows start up). At first I wasn't to bothered but the duration of the "buzz" has grown and then a few days ago it grew so bad the it seemed to kill the laptop screen, as it went blank and no command keys could stop it and thats when I had to pull the battery .
Im just getting a bit nervous as my warranty expires soon.
