Strange bass disturbance with software keyboard????

I have hooked my not so new Yamaha keyboard to my iMac via a midi to USB cord. When I attempt to record a simple piano tune I get a distortion especially when I repeat notes. The sound usually starts out fine and then turns into a really deep deep bass hammering sound. I have adjusted the keyboard sensitivity under garageband preferences, turned the various volume options down, checked to make sure that it is plugged in properly, etc. I don't want to have to buy a new keyboard. Could there be a cause to this problem that I am overlooking?

Yes, I'm having the exact same problem too with a p70 and Midisport UNO. Notes can only play if played slow, otherwise there's this deep bassy noise if the notes are played too fast. I wonder if it's because I've only got 512M of RAM, and although I doubt it I'm going to up my RAM this weekend to 1.25G. Let's hope this works!
Anybdy else with the same problem?

  • Strange repaint behaviour with JList & Keyboard actions

    Hi everyone,
This is my first post to the forum. You guys have been a great help in the past and I hope to contribute more in the future.
Anyways, I've encountered some strange repainting behaviour with a JDialog that uses a JList and a JButton. The dialog is fairly straight-forward and basically this is how it works (like an open file dialog - yes I'm implementing my own filechooser of sorts):
    * JList lists a number of simple items that the user can select from.
    * Once a selection is made, an Open button (JButton) is enabled.
    * <ENTER> key is registered (using registerKeyboardAction()) with a JPanel which is used as the main content pane in the dialog.
    * The user can either click on the Open Button or hit the <ENTER> key which then closes the dialog and runs whatever logic that needs to.
Now, the repaint problem comes in when:
    1. User selects an item.
    2. User hits the <ENTER> button
    3. Dialog closes
    4. User brings the dialog back up. This entails reloading the list by removing all elements from the list and adding new ones back in.
    5. Now... if the user uses the mouse to select an item lower in the list than what was done in step #1, the selection is made, but the JList doesn't repaint to show that the new selection was made.
I didn't include a code sample because the dialog setup is totally straight-forward and I'm not doing anything trick (I've been doing this kind of thing for years now).
If I remove the key registration for the <ENTER> key from the dialog, this problem NEVER happens. Has anyone seen anything like this? It's a minor problem since my workaround is to use a ListSelectionListener which manually calls repaint() on the JList inside the valueChanged() method.
    Just curious,
    Huy

Oh, my bad. I'm actually using a JToggleButton and not a JButton, so the getRootPane().setDefaultButton() doesn't apply because it only takes JButton as an input param. I wonder why it wasn't implemented to take AbstractButton. hmmm.

I bought the company unlocked phone from apple store Canada. It was originally loaded with software 4.2 and was working fine here in SaudiArabia.  Yesterday I updated with IOS 5.0.1.  Now it is showing that sim is not valid.  The same sim works fine in other phones.

Here's and update on my problems and here are are some screen shots of the types of problems I've been having since the v5.0.1 update. Keep in mind these are native apps and I have tried the rebuild phone crap many times, nothing helps.
This is screen shot of a what happened when I tried to use my camera one day, both the front and back cameras were all black. I had to power cycle the phone to get rid of this problem. The cameras appeared to be working correctly, I could focus and zoom but it was all black.
Here is an image of what happened when I searched for something in a map. This is after I picked the choice I wanted, the keyboard disappeared but the list didn't. I had to force close the app and restart it for this problem to go away. Who knew five bars on ATT was possible.
And finally this is the messaging app, although you would not know it. I had to return to home screen (after a long pause for it to process the button push) and return to the messaging app. This happens all the time with the messaging app and the notifications sounds drive me crazy. If  i'm using the phone, say browsing the web and I get an incoming message its almost 100% of the time the messaging app will screw up. The sound will play at the wrong time or not at all, message will show up in notifications and diasapear in message app or Ill have a problem like this:

  • Problem sending IM with physical keyboard

Motorola Droid 4 XT894 w/ CyanogenMod 10.1.3-maserati (Although it was same issue when I was on stock Android), Verizon and WiFi, Skype v4.4.0.31835
This has been a huge issue for me for a while, and I thought all the updates to Skype would eventually fix this bug...but apparently not.
My phone has a physical keyboard, and while I understand physical keyboards are being phased out, and that Skype is desigend around the touch screen, I feel it's still important to support these needs as I use  Skype for chats as well.
The issue is that when I slide out my keyboard and type a message, the send button dissappears and I cannot send the message by pushing the enter key on the physical keyboard, which only creates a new line in the message.  I physically have to slide the keyboard closed on the phone so that the on-screen keyboard shows up and then I can push "Send" on the screen to send a message.  This is a physical nuisance, which brings me to another point...  I really wish Skype did not change that the Enter key on the physical keyboard only creates a new line (which I understand is its intended function), because all the old versions of skype I was able to send messages just fine by hitting enter on the keypad.  I wish there was a general setting that can be checked to say "Enter to Send" like all other popular text messaging apps so you can please both parties...
What I don't understand is that version 4.12.254 skype for my iPad (MC706LL/A), which I have a bluetooth keyboard linked I can push enter on the physical bluetooth keyboard and it will send the message...what the heck???
This occurence is 5/5 tries.  Please do something about this!  Thank you!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Using my HP slatebook x2 (convertible netbook), i have come across the issue where i am not able to sent a message on skype, for the simple reason that there is no "sent" button on the screen.
The ENTER-key, will insert a new linebreak.
Using the software keyboard (android's default), there is a button (above the keyboard) to send the message.
When i reconnect my keyboard (remove it and then putting it back on), the button will show up, but only for one-time use.
    skype vers.: 4.4.0.31835
    android vers: 4.2.2 (stock)
keyboard: default hardware keyboard that HP deliveres with the tablet
Hope the devs can resolve this issue, goodluck!!

  • Something weird with the keyboard

Hello everyone, i have this strange problem with my wireless keyboard. Everytime i type down a letter, it appears down as many times as i hold the button. Every letter, except X. It is the only letter that i can only type one time, even if i hold it down for several seconds. I don't think there is something wrong with the keyboard or the specific number, because when I hit it again and again the letter appears. Only when i hold it down it only appears once. I know this is not something to bother about, since i can type the letter, but i am curious to find out why this happens. If anyone could tell me, please, do not hesitate

Quote from: sjay on 18-April-11, 04:52:57
This is due to the manufacturing of the keyboard itself. The way its setup is that the keys that are giving problems are obviously located on a different chip and are being recognized as a different device, therefor fail to start or function at all in lowlevel driver enviroment.
There are threads all over the internet about how these expensive keyboards are causing problems with Win7 because of how they are made. Just don't buy too expensive of a keyboard that has a bunch of extra things because those "extra things" are handled differently then a typical keyboard, which is counted as one device. My Saitek red Eclipse works perfectly fine, though it doesn't have extra programmable macro buttons or anything (and thats why it works). It does have volume + -, mute, and backlight adjustment buttons though.
Surely that cannot be the case.  This keyboard works fine with every other motherboard including the lower-end P67S-C45 that I have sitting next to me.  Also, lets not confuse the issue, this problem does not affect Windows.

  • What is going on with my keyboard?

okay so last night i was on my macbook (white 2008) leopard software...out of nowhere some keys were typing on their own then some keys wouldnt type i thought they were stuck and ran my fingers across the board trying to unstick them, then no keys worked at all, i currently have a usb external keyboard plugged in and when i test the keys on my macbook the alternate working, a few working, then none working and back again....Why is it going bazerk? last night before i could find the external keyboard i tried to view the keyboard on screen...that was a task trying to go through the apple support area without being able to type anything. i found a way that i thought was to view your keyboard on the screen, went through all the steps but there was no "input" on my menu bar...what is going on is this hardware or software? or what? please help
-confused and frustrated and also very bad with technology
p.s. there is some disconnect with the wires from the screen to the keyboard/trackpad area (top and bottom) and i normally have to open and close my macbook until i find the right spot in order for the backlight to work...just adding that incase the wire issue could also be contributing to the keyboard malfunction, note: trackpad is working just fine

i wanted to add that as of now about 19 hours after the problem with the keyboard began i am now having some trouble with the track pad it seems to be registering like i have to fingers on it, when i click with on finger the (right click options) show up and when i try the two fingers up and down scroll short cut my entire screen zooms in and out which it has never done before i didnt even know that happened on the macbooks i thought only on the macbook pros you can squish and spread your fingers to zoom

  • Turn an electric guitar into a bass guitar with garage band?

I'm a teenage DAW (is that the right term? A non-commercial person who uses software instead of hardware to record and mix?) and I am currently in the process of making my own cover for a song and writing my own songs. My questions are about an electric guitar (Ibanez Artcore AF75TDG) and amp (Roland Cube 30x). I am using a 17 inch MacBook pro. I also am using a USB M-audio MobilePre audio interface for my recording. I plug my acoustic guitar directly into the audio interface (I'm a bad boy... I need a DI box) and I have an OK mic for the amp I'm using (I would use one of the really BOSS condenser mics my dad bought, but I dont have mic cables in the house). I also have an M-audio "Key Studio" MIDI controller at my disposal. My questions are about the use of GarageBand:
    1) How (hypothetically) do I plug my electric guitar into my MacBook Pro to take advantage of all the built-in amps in the software? Do I just create the track as an "Electric Guitar" track and plug into the audio interface normally?
    2) I can do a bass line with my MIDI controller, but I want to try making my electric guitar sound like a bass guitar. Is there some way to do that? Like run the guitar through a software bass amp in GarageBand?
Please answer any way you like. If there is anything you think I need, please tell me. I can borrow equipment from my church (such as mic cables or SM57 mics, our DI boxes are pretty much shot now, but are still useable) if need be.
    Thanks all.

Most online reviews give just about any apogee product a good name. Especially the jam and duet lines. Before you buy product make sure you evaluate exactly what you will need out of it. Will you always be recording just guitar tracks, or eventually want to record more than 2 tracks simultaneously? If you stick to purely 2-track most people say apogee sound is one of the best.
I personally own a different interface (FTU by Maudio) but mostly because I wanted up to 4 tracks at same time for live and studio recordings. It's an ok product but probably falls short of the apogee quality. Think about exactly what you want from your setup and price range. It's all a delicate balance of compromise from there...

  • Strange major problem with 975X PowerUp Intel MOBO

I’m suddenly having a strange major problem with a MSI 975X Platinum PowerUP Edition V2.1 MS-7246 Intel socket 775 motherboard. Previously, it had given me no problems at all.
    It went like this:
Powered on system in the morning, booting from a cold start.
Hit DEL key to get into the BIOS.
Missed the window and the system booted into Windows normally.
Re-started the system from within Windows.
Hit DEL key to get into the BIOS and was successful the second time.
Hit the ENTER key on the first item “Standard CMOS Features”.
The DATE, TIME and other information was displayed on the next screen, but at this point, the BIOS screen became completely unresponsive to any keyboard input.
The only thing I could do at that point was to power off.
Subsequent power on boot-ups resulted in the system always freezing at the BIOS splash screen after the video card sign-on.
I have switched power supplies, hard drives, keyboards and video cards. I have disconnected everything except the video card, keyboard and one RAM module. I have switched the four RAM modules around and then reduced the RAM to one 256MB module in the proper slot. I even changed the battery on the MOBO, in case it had shorted out and removed and re-seated the BIOS chip. It still halts at the BIOS splash screen.
The BIOS chip can’t be completely dead, because I powered off and pushed the BIOS reset button on the MOBO to reset the BIOS to the factory defaults. When I re-booted, I could tell that it had actually reset to the factory defaults because I had previously set the BIOS to reboot the system on resumption of power and the factory default was to remain off until the power button was pushed, which was now the default.
I’m stumped! All I can think of is to get a new pre-programmed BIOS chip and see if that makes any difference, but I’m not sure this system is even worth the expense with no guarantee of success. Any suggestions on how I might get past the BIOS splash screen or do I for sure have a corrupt BIOS chip?

System specs as per the posting guidelines -
Board: MSI 975X Platinum PowerUP Edition V2.1 MS-7246 Intel socket 775
Bios: Version (can’t recall & can’t check since it won’t go past the BIOS splash screen)
VGA: ASUS EN7600GS nVidia GeForce 7600GS PCI-e 256MB DDR2 (also tried new XFX nVidia
             Geforce 210 PCI-e 2.0 512MB DDR3)
PSU: Chiefmax 680W ATX (also tried new OCZ 700W ATX)
    CPU: Intel 2.8GHz LGA-775 Core2 Duo Dual-Core Processor
    MEM: 4 x Samsung 512MB 1Rx8 PC2-5300U (2GB total)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 250GB SATA2 (also tried Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA2)
    COOLER: Intel OEM LGA 775 fan/heatsink C25897-001
    OC: No
    OS: Vista Home Premium 32-bit
I have been through the BIOS reset procedure several times and pretty much as outlined. As I said before, I could tell that it had taken a reset to the factory defaults, because the power on option had changed.

  • Strange new problem with external effects and latency compensation

i'm currently facing a new , very strange problem with latency compensation for external effect devices. it alway worked fine for me but suddenly there are strange things going on. i'm suddenly running into problems when using sends which feed auxes going to external effect devices.
latency compensation is set to ALL !!!
    easy setup :
    - open an empty project and create 2 audioinstrument tracks. on the first one load the exs with a drumkit and record f.e. a bassdrum pattern. leave the 2. instrument empty.
    - now on the first audio instrument create a send to bus 1 -> aux 1 and insert the i/o plug-in in the aux and route it to your external effect device. chose a temposynced delay.
    - press play = everything is fine when audioinstrument 1 is highlighted in the arrange.
    - press stop, click on the track with the 2. audioinstrument and press play = totaly weird timing problems. delay is only in sync when track 1 is highlighted.
    - create a send in the 2. audioinstrument and route it to bus 1 -> aux 1 too = still the same problem
now insert ANY softwareinstrument in audioobject 2 and suddenly the timing for the delay is right.
go ahead and create a 3. audioinstrument track but leave it empty first. chose it in the arrange = again weird timing problems with the external delay.
insert any software instrument on audioinstrument 3 = still the same problem
now create the send to bus 1 -> aux 1 in audioinstrument 3 and guess what, timing is right.
*** is going on here ? can anyone reproduce that ?
it works fine when using sends which feed auxes with software effects inserted.
funny thing is, when i go to the environment and change aux object one to bus object 1 and insert the same i/o in it it works !!!
very very strange, please tell me i'm not crasy and this is a bug !!!
as said, latency compensation is set to all.
i'm using the mac pro 3.2 8-core running os 10.5.4, logic 8.0.2 and a motu pci-e audio system.

    Welcome to the Discussions.
If you need it formatted FAT32, reformat it on your Mac. Use MS-DOS (FAT32) as the file system. If you don't need it for both PC and Mac, format it HFS+ and you'll be able to use the Retrospect Express software that came with it on your Mac.

  • Control 2 macs with 1 keyboard and mouse

I have two iMacs, 27 inch 10.7 and 24 inch with 10.6. Side by side. The two communicate wirelessly using Apple Wi fi.
I want to use one keyboard and mouse for both.
I have downloaded "synergy" on both computers, however, attempts to control both have failed.
I know that Apple screen sharing is an option, but I would prefer to use "synergy" or a similar program.
(I vaguely recall controlling both computers in the past, but cannot recall how I did it.)
Help? Control two Macs with one keyboard and mouse. That is my goal.
    Thanks.

Try the software Teleport from Abyssoft. http://www.abyssoft.com/software/teleport/
I just installed Teleport on Macbook Air and Macbook Pro and am now working on both with a single wireless keyboard and glidepad simply by dragging mouse from one screen to the other.

  • Bluetooth + Software Keyboard

I have paired my iMac bluetooth keyboard with my iPhone 3GS and I'm typing fine. How do I switch to input controls on the iPhone's software keyboard and then switch back again? I imagine that there could be a keyboard stroke to take care of this. Thanks.

I would like this feature too.
However, one solution to this is to purchase a folding keyboard. That way, folding the keyboard closes turns off the keyboard, which makes the software keyboard automatically reappear. And opening the keyboard, makes the software keyboard automatically disappear. This is desired behaviour, and I like the iOS behaviour this way, at least for this keyboard.
I personally have the iGo Stowaway bluetooth keyboard (google "iGo Bluetooth Keyboard" in Google Images for more info). Although discontinued, it has been the best pocket folding Bluetooth keyboard I have found, and is often still available as old stock from some stores or eBay.
I was unable to find the hide/show software keyboard shortcut, but I discovered other great keyboard shortcuts on this folding keyboard. (The Stowaway windows logo key behaves just like the Option key on the Apple Bluetooth keyboard that also works on the iPhone)
    Option+Left/Right: Home/End keys
Option+Up/Down: Jump to Top/Bottom of page
    Option+Backspace: Delete current line
    Option+X/C/V: Cut/Copy/Paste
    Option+Z: Undo
    Shift+Arrows: Select text for Cut/Copy/Paste
If anyone finds any other key shortcuts on this keyboard, let me know too.

  • IPad - No Excuse for missing Dvorak software keyboard

I've been using Apple products since I bought an original Macintosh in the summer of 1984. Apple is a company that supports the non-conformist. The person who wants to do things a better and different way. Or, so it claims.
I taught myself the Dvorak arrangement twelve or fourteen years ago, when my hands started giving me problems from too much keyboard use. I can remap the QWERTY (pronounced "crappy") keyboard to Dvorak on PCs running DOS, on Macintosh, and on all versions of Windows.
And yet, on the iPad, there is no software keyboard for the Dvorak arrangement. Only QWERTY and two similar arrangements.
Granted, the soft keyboard on the iPad is not ideal for speed no matter what the key arrangement. But having to relearn QWERTY when on the iPad slows me down.
This is a trivial programing assignment Apple. One of your college interns, with a bit of guidance, could pull it off. Why not step up and give us a Dvorak arrangement. Think Different.
I am currently using an iPad for a class I am taking. But when the class is done, it goes back to the school. I would love to buy an iPad (the third generation, coming soon) but cannot bring myself to do so until it supports Dvorak.

This is a user to user forum only in which Apple does not participate .... but hopefully they read these things when you make suggestions here ....
