Strange Behavior Using Magnetic Lasso
I'm using Photoshop CS4, and experiencing odd behavior when using the Magnetic Lasso. I'm working on a project that has fairly intricate outlining and filling actions, so I'm using the magnetic lasso to do that. This involves a lot of irregular borders, so I have to do a fair amount of setting anchor points manually. It all works fine, except that I periodically get the lasso "closing" spontaneously. That is, I'll be half way around an area I'm outlining, and with no action on my part, the lasso suddenly leaps to the origin point (the pointer doesn't move, but the seleted area is completed, as if I had double clicked. This seems to happen more frequently if I am moving the mouse back and forth to get a more precise location for setting an anchor point. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this behavior? Sometimes, depending on where I am in the process, I can simply continue by choosing to "add to the selection." But sometimes, this aribitrary closing encompases portions that I do NOT want included in the selection, so I have no choice but to Step Backwards, or Undo, and start over. If it helps, when this happens, I'm usually working on a magnified portion of the image, and have the Caps Lock pressed to give me the pointer configured as a cross within a circle, to provide more precision. Will be glad to provide any additional information that anyone considers helpful or pertinent. Any help much appreciated.
Acidclink--
Thanks for the reply. And let me say at the outset that I am NOT an experienced Photoshop user. I've used it a lot, but not much for many different projects. Until I got your suggestion, I hadn't heard the term "penning a path." But I did some reading, and I'm assuming that you are talking about using the pen tool in its path mode, to draw an irregular outline that you can then convert into a selection. Truth is, until your note, I had no idea that the pen tool could even be used in this manner. And I will certainly give it a try. But, as I understand it, the pen tool when used in this fashion creates a series of straight lines between points. That would mean, (if I am correct) that to make a curved line, you would need a lot of points close together. And in that situation, it seems to me that the Magnetic Lasso (or the Quick Selection) tool might work better.
Perhaps if I describe in a bit more detail what I am doing, it might help you and others who are generously trying to assist. I'm working with a series of state outline maps with counties outlined. Although the images are color images, they are essentially black and white. That is, I have a map of a state on a white background, with the counties of the state outlined in black. My task is to fill a single county on the map with color. So what I've been doing is using the Magntic Lasso (or the Quick Selection) tool to outline the county boundary, then use the FILL command to fill the selection with the color. As you can imagine, the county boundaries are often very irregular, with zig-zags, curves, rivers, etc. The benefit of the magnetic lasso or quick selection tool is that they do a FAIR job of following all of the irregular coutours. They ceratinly aren't perfect, and I nearly always have to add to or subtract from the selection to get a good quality selection that matches the preprinted boundaries. But, what I don't have to do is trace the entire distance of the existing boudary with precision. I just need to nudge the selection a bit in sharp pointed corners, or things like river meanders, where there are a series of "s" turns.
Having said all of that, I'm still willing to learn, and I do plan to try the pen tool to create a path as you suggest. An earlier suggestion to use the Quick Selection tool has helped me--I've been using it to grossly select an area, then using the magnetic lasso to refine the seletion. So I am learning (though slowly). And I DEFINITELY appreciate the input and suggestions.
On a different subject, I MAY have fixed the unexpected closing problem with the magnetic lasso. Since I unplugged the mouse (to try a different one which turned out to be dead), and plugged it back in again, I have not yet experienced the spontaneous closing problem. So it may be that the problem was caused by a poor connection of the mouse to the USB port. Time will tell on that.

Screen flickers when using magnetic lasso
Hello,
First I want to say that my english is kinda crappy so, sorry for that.
My problem is, when i'm drawing a line with the magnetic lasso tool, after a few seconds the screen flickers one time and my line is a selection.
Same with the color picker, when I hold my left mouse button to choose a color it flickers and is "Not responding".
I'm using CS4 and Windows 7
I hope someone can help me
Thank youThere were several issues with mostly the MS InteliPoint drivers, but also some of the Logitec SetPoint drivers, causing just such behavior in Adobe programs' GUI. In those cases, just removing either the InteliPoint, or SetPoint drivers, as has been mentioned, cleared things up. Going back about two years, I'd guess that three releases of the InteliPoint drivers did this horribly. It seemed to have been fixed with later releases, but recently showed back up in both the PrPro and AfterEffects fora.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - was going to make a joke that it was the "magnet" in the Magnetic Lasso, messing with the monitor, but thought better of it. Would not have been funny anyway... -
Using Magnetic Lasso crashes Photoshop CS4
Hi,
I use the magnetic lasso to cut out product shots regularly using Photoshop CS4 and it regularly quits on me after I've lasso'd about 2-3 images.
This used to happen on my previous Macbook Pro 15" with 3GB RAM and I put it down to some system specific issue. But I've just got a new MB15" with 4GB RAM with a clean install of OSX and clean install of CS4 (didn't even migrate prefs) and it's still happening.
It seems to happen less when I have the magnetic lasso's 'frequency' set low (10-20) but the selection isn't tight enough around the object as when I have it set to 100.
The crash log reports:
17/07/09 4:54:24 PM com.apple.launchd[105] ([0x0-0x1a01a].com.adobe.Photoshop[242]) Exited abnormally: Segmentation fault
I leave Activity Monitor running on my other screen and can see that I have free memory at the time of the crash.
Anyone know how to stop this from happening or should I just file a bug report? I do keep sending the crash reports to Adobe.
A quick google shows this problem has been around since CS2.
cheersKnew it wouldn't take long to happen again:

About Using Magnetic Lasso Tool In Photoshop CS3 Extended
Hi All
I seem to be having a problem using the Magnetic Lasso Tool In Photoshop CS3 Extended as when I get half way around an egales beak zoomed in at 66.67% and start to single click around the tight corners the photo is covered over with a white background and the palettes to the right of the Photo e.g. layers, channels, paths becomes white to and all you can see is the paths that the Magnetic Lasso Tool has made around the beak until you click any key on the keyboard but the annoying thing about doing that is that the path automatically becomes selected there for I am unable to draw the paths around the rest of the beak does anyone know of a patch of some kind that will correct this error?
Many Thanks For Reading This And May Be Replying To it.
All The Best. Regards,
Oliver
P.S I have downloaded and installed all of the updates for all Adobe and Adobe CS3 Software.Oliver,
We have the same exact issue here with the Polygonal Lasso tool. Get anywhere from 20-80% around an object and it hiccups once and then locks up for a moment causing you to loose whatever you've been selecting.
Symptoms include toolbars and palettes turning white and screen freezing for a moment.
Is there an official word on this from Adobe? Or better yet, a solution?
Thanks,
George -
Photoshop CS6 gets AppHang when using Magnetic Lasso Several Times
My operating system is a Dell Precision T3500 Windows 7 64-bit SP1 6GB RAM.
I opened a 102MB tif file which had been created in Lightroom4 by telling LR to edit in Photoshop. I already had a small .jpg open in one window -- I am using tabbed layouts.
I Used the magnetic lasso about four times to delete sections of the photo and replace them with a Pattern (grey backround). Several of the mask selections were to the border of the photo and I moved the curor for the lasso beyond the border of the photo. Then I used the polygon lasso two or three times to replace additional sections which had been left behind. I went back to the magnetic lasso. When I went outside the boundaries of the photograph this time, CS6 hung. I couldn't switch windows or do anything in Photoshop. Dead. The task manager said the program wasn't responding, and I used the task manager to kill it.You could simply reach the limit of allowed points in a path. You will have to use multiple passes/ segemnts. I don't see why this should be a problem. Selections are selections. The path is merely a temporary representation of the selection border, the actual selection is pixel based, no matter what. Maybe look up a tutorial on how to work with saved selections/ channels? Just saying... Seems to me like you're trying to outsmart the program and doing everything in one go, which arely ever works...

Photoshop crashing when using magnetic lasso
Photoshop keeps crashing when I use the magnetic lasso tool.
Hmm, I can't reproduce that.
I looked at the crash reports, and the crash is in a spot that's odd. I suspect something corrupted the stack before hitting the crash.
The good news is that in the next version, I have added more error checking in that area because of previous crash reports I couldn't explain. -
When using the lasso to maybe select a person out of a photo, its generally not THAT accurate in certain spots. when the lasso cuts into the photo area that you are trying to cut out, I find I have to start the process all over again. Is there a way to go back a few points and try again?
Once i have completed the lasso and I see that points of it cut into the photo, is there a way to edit the selection edges? So they're called "fastening points" and not "anchor points", i'm not going to remember that considering how often i use that tool

To erase recently drawn segments and fastening points,
press the Delete key until you’ve erased the fastening points for

SAP GUI for Java 7.10 rev 7 - strange behavior using mouse
Hi,
I use last revision of SAP GUI for Java 7.10 on linux and I've noticied that some mouse actions do not work as expected. I'll use describe an examples:
(1)
In rev.6 I simly push button on screen and move over text, text is marked and then I can use CTRL-C to copy text to clipboard.
In rev.7 pushing button and move does nothing. I need one initial click more and then it works as expected.
(2)
Click to icon in an ABAP list sometimes activate another icon from screen (it seems that focus isn't moved from its previous position to new mouse cursor position).
Because rev.7 has been released at the end of 2008, it is possible, that some dotted revision (solving these troubles) has been released, does anybody know solution?
Thank you for some hints,
PavelHello Pavel,
we have not yet been aware of such issues, so a newer dotted version would likely not make a difference.
(1) The behavior pretty much depends on the specific component you are clicking and selecting its text.
So a specific test case identifying the component is required to investigate the issue.
(2) Also for this case I ask to provide the exact context, even if it happens there only "sometimes".
Please provide also information requested in [note 326558|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/326558], parts 2.) and 3.)
If you could provide all this as part of a [support message|http://service.sap.com/message] would be great.
Best regards

Strange behavior - icon thumbnail instead of image - CC@OSX10.10
Hi,
my CC (@OS X 10.10.3) showing a strange behavior using vanishing point filter.
After defining grid and try to paste the image OS X paste the icon thumbnail instead of the image,
Many thanks in advance!!
br
JoachimIt is probably related to the fact that you are setting the tables row height in the renderer this will fire a render message when the height changes. One height is applied to all rows of a table. This means that is you have images of different heights you are continually changing the tables row height and therefore continually rendereing.
My approach would be to have all the images fit into a set size ( say 64*64 ( with scaling if neccesary ) you could then have a popup show the full size image if required. -
i started my photoshop touch after some while and now i cant find the magnetic lasso tool it used to be there i used it all the time for editting but now i cant find it maybe i disabled it somehow. can anyone tell how to enable it again?
I honestly don't remember a magnetic lasso tool. (I've been using PS Touch since version 1.0.) The closest things I can think of are the Quick Selection Tool, the Scribble Selection Tool and the Magic Wand Tool, all located under the same set of tools (3rd set from the top in the tool panel).

Strange behavior after using NIK plug-ins
Every once in a while I encounter this strange behavior of Aperture. I first process the NEF's in Aperture (white balance, Exposure, Enhance... and, when needed, Cropping) and then I fine tune the image with the NIK plug-ins; when needed DfIne 2.0, Viveza, Color Efex Pro 3.0 and Sharpener Pro 3.0 Output Sharpener.
If I look at the processed picture then, I get a perfect presentation of the photo;
But when I press Z to zoom into a 100% preview I get this;
When I select the Loup in the normal view mode I get this;
This doesn't happen with all my pictures, yesterday I processed a series of 8 pictures an 6 of them showed this behavior the other two acted normal and I can't see what I did differently whit these last two.
When I export the strangely behaving photo's to a Tiff or a Jpeg, I get perfectly normal pictures.
The original NEF behaves normal. I have seen this behavior with NEF's from a Nikon D200, D2x and a D300. I have Aperture 2.1.2 running on a 2.33 GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.5.6
Does anybody know what's happening and if so, how to solve this problem?
Cheers,
IvanI did some testing and what I found is too weird to be true.
First this mashed up look doesn't only happen after using NIK plug-ins, it also happens when making a roundtrip to Photoshop, given that certain conditions are met.
Give it a try yourself. Crop an image to an uneven pixelcount dimension, for example 4227 x 2797 and make a roundtrip to Photoshop. Then have a 100% view look at the new image in Aperture. You'll have a mashed up view, at least I do.
Now crop the same original image to an even pixelcount dimension, for example 4228 x 2798 and make an roundtrip to Photoshop once more. When you have a 100% view of the new image now, you'll see a perfectly normal photo.
Do you think Aperture developers are reading this forum? -
Strange Behavior of program while using BAPI_PO_CREATE1
Hello SAP GURUs,
I've created an Upload Program using BAPI_PO_CREATE1 for Mass Service PO Creation.
When I execute the program and Specify the File for uploading, It Gives me errors as
E BAPI 1 No instance of object type PurchaseOrder has been created. External reference:
E MEPO 0 Purchase order still contains faulty items
E 6 436 In case of account assignment, please enter acc. assignment data for item
But when I come back to Selection Screen of the Program and specify the SAME FILE AGAIN and Execute,
The Program runs successfully and generates the PO number.
I have never seen such strange behavior in any BAPIs before.

JDEV Team: Strange behavior in TOMCAT using DATATAGS (VERY CRITICAL)
I am encountering some strange behavior when I deploy my application to TOMCAT.
If I run in JDeveloper (webtogo) everything works fine but the behavior changes completely in TOMCAT.
Let me try and explain my situation here.
I have 3 jsps :
1.iss_listApps.jsp which is used to browse all the available records, allows the user to navigate to a specific record and edit or delete.
2. app_edit.jsp which is used to edit/delete a specific row passed from iss_listApps.jsp.
3. app_edit_post.jsp which is used to save the changes.
Note that I use an anchor ">Edit</a> to pass a row from the browser page to the edit page.
For your convenience I have listed all the source files below.
Now here are my problems:
Problem 1. If I run it in JDeveloper, I am able to browse the records and go to a specific record to edit and delete by clicking on the "Edit" anchor provided in the browser page.
I can also go to the edit page and backout out of it by not saving the changes. In that case I am back in my browser page and I can again click on the "Edit" anchor to a specific record.
However if I am in TOMCAT, I am able to browse and go to a specific record so long as I make changes to it and save it. If for any reason, I do not save a record and I go back to my browser
page then any subsequent calls to to edit a specific record goes to the same OLD RECORD that I did not save.
I fail to understand why? Maybe the "webtogo" server automatically refreshes when I click on the "back tab". If so, how do I automatically refresh a jsp page when I click on the "back tab" in TOMCAT.
I would sincerely appreciate any help on this.
Problem 2. I have an include jsp tag in my browser page. defined as
<jsp:include page="Message.jsp" flush="true">
<jsp:param name="colspan" value="2"/>
</jsp:include>.
This section of the code is currently commented out because if I uncomment it then it runs ok in JDeveloper but in Tomcat it causes the browser page to always navigate to the first record if I want to edit a specific record.
I would sincerely appreciate any answer on this.
Here are my source files:
1. iss_ListApps.jsp (browser page). Please see how the anchor is formed. It causes no problems
in JDeveloper.

nullI would not expect the 'back' button to automatically refresh the page. This button basically traverses the history of pages. Since Tomcat is caching your pages, you can try to control it's interaction with the browser by:
1. Adding cache control pragmas to the returned content so it doesn't get cached.(look at www.w3c.org at the HTTP spec)
2. dont rely on the back button, place a link on your pages to go back to the list page.
3. change your cache control settings in your browser to check for a new page every time a url is visited. -

Magnetic lasso - closed loop only?
Hi
Is it possible for the magnetic lasso to function as an open line rather than a closed loop?
Many thanks
AndyI suppose an open lasso is a strange concept. :)
I was after something which used the magnetic properties of the lasso ie. it clings to edges, but which was open, ie. the ends are tethered and it forms a path between the two ends. The key thing is the automatic clinging to edges close to where the mouse is traced. Can Illustrator do this?
