Strange BIOS Boot Listing--New L775D-S7132
I have a new Satellite L775D-S7132 acquired just 2 days ago after my Windows 8 fiasco. I have a question about the BIOS. It is an Aptio BIOS the same as my older L675-S7016. The new 775 BIOS will NOT recognize a USB flash drive, bootable or not. It does recognize my backup USB HDD. The computer recognizes the flash drives and allows input and output with no problems whatever. There is no problem except if I ever HAD to boot from a USB flash drive, I would not be able to since there would be no way to select boot from it.
The old 675 BIOS, also an Aptio, recognizes a bootable flash drive I have as a FDD. It also recognizes regular flash drive as USB. Jerry Lippey suggests I re-flash the BIOS and I believe that is an obvious thing to try (maybe the ONLY thing). However, as a regular on here for the last year or so, one thing I've learned is to leave the BIOS alone unless you absolutely have to do something with it. Too many people have ended up with very costly door stops!
Anyone have any ideas?

Didn't really think I would get any answers about this. Have since determined I couldn't reflash the current BIOS even if I decided to try since it is version 1.5 and Toshiba's Downloads page only shows 1.4 and earlier. Anyone who has been on this Forum for a few months knows there have been lengthy and heated discussions about this model and an extremely fast running clock. The 1.5 BIOS is the one that finally cured that so I'm also not about to revert to an earlier BIOS. So, things will remain status quo and I just hope I never need a bootable USB flash drive as a solution to a problem.

You are posting in the wrong forum. You need to post in the hardware forum for your OS.

There is no Windows Utility to edit the boot rom. Each vendor has their own tools.

Error loading OS (first boot-up, new system, freeze at boot-up)
I have built up a new system with:
CPU: AMD3 Phenom II X4 945
Board: MSI-7642 (890GXM-G65)
Memory: DDR3 Dominator 2x2GB 1600Mhz
Drive: SATAII 700GB Western Digital
I am using the onboard graphics card
I built the system up, turned it on and have the message:
Error loading OS
(the system then freezes on that message)
at startup there is a single beep, the message "Error loading OS" is straight after the v890GXM-G65 splash. There is no BIOS message on the monitor, no RAM count, no chance to get into BIOS.
Basically immediately after the MSI splash the error message shows.
I would like to boot from my windows XP install CD and format the Hard-Drive and install Windows.
After reading similar messages in the Forum I will:
*reset the BIOS with the mainboard jumpers
*set the Harddrive to SATA-I speed with the jumpers
does anyone have any other suggestions?
I don't have another PC that I can format my Harddrive on; it was formatted before simply with one partition (not a boot partition) as a backup drive.
Seems to be a common problem, the "Error loading OS", pity MSI doesn't have a error code listing somewhere.I managed to sort the problem out.
It seems that the BIOS system (Version 1.2) didn't accept hard drives when they are inappropriately formatted. It also had a problem with the USB Keyboard.
I managed to sort this out by connecting SATA Harddrive that was used in my pervious system, which had windows XP already installed on it. Surprisingly this was not only accepted by the BIOS, I didn't have to reinstall Windows or any programmes at all - although the previous system ran on a Gigabyte Board, with a 939 socket AMD processor!
Another problem was that my Keysonic Intuition-XL ACK-5600 USB2 keyboard wasn't accepted by the BIOS in the "new system state". Only after I had windows running, and the mainboard USB2 chipset drivers were installed in windows, was the USB2 keyboard accepted by windows or the BIOS. I couldn't connect a PS2 keyboard to the main board, because there is only one PS2 connector - which is taken be the mouse (more necessary for windows than a keyboard). Perhaps the BIOS had a problem with the keyboard, because it houses USB ports and audio connections.
The conclusion:
*The MSI-7642 (890GXM-G65) mainboard only accepted a SATA drive with a primary bootable partition. I couldn't start up with a Installation CD and install any drive.
*The USB Keyboard didn't function during the BIOS boot until I installed the mainboard USB Chipset drivers in windows XP. This is strange, as normally the BIOS should be totally independent of the OS . The Keyboard itself doesn't need a windows driver.
;-))For a system builder it is advised to format SATA drives as primary bootable drives before building the system, and use a "simple" USB keyboard (with no electronic or ports), or better a PS2 Keyboard. -
T60p does not boot from new primary hard disk (Single-boot Linux/Fedora 14)
Hi,
I have just upgraded the primary disk in my T60p laptop (model 8742-C4G.) The BIOS recognised the disk fine, I partitioned it, marked the first partition as bootable, and then copied the OS (Fedora 14) and all my data back onto it. Then I installed the GRUB bootloader using the following commands:
grub> root (hd0,0)
grub> find /grub/stage1
grub> setup (hd0)
grub> quit
I've also tried installing GRUB with "setup (hd0,0)" instead of "setup (hd0)", without success.
This ran fine, exactly like with all the other PCs I've successfully performed this procedure on in the past. However, this laptop is refusing to boot from the new disk. There's no sign of any activity, either - just a flashing cursor in the top-left corner of the otherwise blank LCD panel. So I'm guessing that either the bootloader is failing immediately, or the laptop isn't executing the bootloader at all.
The laptop is running the very latest v1.18 BIOS, and there are no beeps, POST errors or anything like that. My previous disk booted into Fedora 14 without any difficulty at all, of course.
Can anyone suggest why the T60p is not booting, please? And also how to fix it? Is there any extra initialisation that I need to do in the BIOS, for example? (I haven't seen any...) The disk *does* appear in the BIOS's list of bootable media. Or maybe there's some special code that needs to be written into the MBR that GRUB doesn't know about?
The disk is a 320 GB 7200rpm Western Digital drive, and the Lenovo/IBM salesperson assured me that it was fully compatible with a T60p laptop without the need for any extra firmware.
Thanks in advance for any ideas, because I'm completely stumped at this point.
Cheers,
Chris
N.B. This is a Linux laptop, and so Windows-centric suggestions aren't going to help me.You said you can't get into Windows safe mode, have you installed Windows on the hard drive? Are you able to get into the BIOS for the controller?
If you aren't able to access the BIOS for the controller, it may be due to bad RAM. If you are comfortable installing RAM and you have some extra laptop RAM of the same type (I think it's DDR3 for your controller) laying around, you can try swapping out the RAM.
Was your hard drive damaged through some event, or did it just stop working?

Booting from Optical Drive - Drive omitted from boot list
Hey Guys - I've read similar posts yet none seems to offer a solution. My machine came preinstalled with windows 8 which I upgraded to 8.1 and last week upgraded to Windows 10 with only one issue (display driver). The machine itself has a recovery partition. And the product key is obviously embedding within the motherboard. Obviously with the Windows 10 upgrade I am concerned about recovery issues as I believe the upgrade effectively makes the recovery partition useless (I can only go by what I've read) therfore I downloaded the winddows 10 64-bit iso from microsoft and I attempted to book the iso from my optical drive but the drive was not listed in the boot options. I'm not an amateur in this regard and when I was using 8.1 on this machine i booted from the optical drive a dvd to recover my password. I've included a screenshot to show the set up but I'm sure that'll need to be approved so in the meantime the BIOS boot set up was as follows:CD ROM BOOT - ENABLEDLEGACY SUPPORT - ENABLEDSECURE BOOT - DISABLED UEFI BOOT ORDER - SAME AS LEGACY LEGACY BOOT ORDERUSB CD/DVD ROM DRIVEINTERNAL CD/DVD ROM DRIVEUSB DISKETTE ON KEY/USB HARD DISKNOTEBOOK HARD DRIVE! NETWORK ADAPTER - (network adaptor boot disabled by the way) Now I'm trying to boot from teh internal dvd/cd drive not usb and i have swapped them around it made no difference. If i can post two screen shots i'll also post the boot list. I should also add the the disc itself boots on another machine no problem and the internal optical drive on my HP machine passes all the HP diagnostics. So with all that said - what is the issue. I did contact HP support on twitter who ran out of ideas and suggested i wait on windows 10 updates from microsoft (why? lol) but for me this seems like the bios just inst reconising the optical drive - it's as if secure boot hasn't been turned off. So i start the machine - press Esc then F9 and select boot list and my optical drive isn't listed. FYI - I even tried refreshing the bios image but this has not effect either - so advice please?!
STILL NO ONE CAN OFFER A WORKAROUND FOR THIS? WHERE ARE ALL THESE EXPERTS???

Post Migration from SP2010 -Attach File Button not working in any list new/edit forms
Hi,
We have migrated the SharePoint 2010 farm to Sharepoint 2013 on last saturday and we are noticing an interesting issue after the migration .
On any custom list on any web application ,When we create a new item,if we click on attach file button in the ribbon, nothing shows up on the screen.
In the browser Dev Tools its showing an error message as "Cannot read Property style of null".
This is happening on a javascript (form.debug.js) on line No : 5276
(document.getElementById("partAttachment")).style.display = "block";
There is no element rendered in html with id "partAttachment",which is causing this error to happen.
Solutions tried are
1) Modified the List Advanced Settings to disable and enable the attachments ,which did not work
2) Ran the Sharepoint Configuration wizard which did not fix
3)Tried reset the site definition for all pages in the site from site settings
4) Deactivated and activated all the activated features in the site collection
Its an OOB List New Form,no customizations has been done.
Similar error occurring with List Edit form as well
when you click on the List Item in the List default view when you navigate to the list and when you click on attach file,a popup dialog to upload attachments appearing,However its not working when you
navigate into the list item and tried to upload attachment.
Please help if any Solutions / thoughtsHi Christopher,
Thanks for your reply,

Does anyone know if this board can have it's BIOS BOOT image replced with a custom one?
What tool is used to do this?
I would like to change the image to something for my HTPC I am building....I know I can disable it. I want to put my own image on the BOOT screen.
Thanks,
*BH*ThinkWiki says you have to work with them. I haven't come across a method to suppress them.

UEFI bios boot into safe mode w/o msconfig or F8
Hi, thanks in advance for taking the time to answer. First off I'm using an ASUS motherboard with UEFI bios on windows 7 64bit.
I'm having trouble with my user account being corrupted and cannot be logged into. I've already looked up how to fix this issue but it requires me logging into safe mode to do so.
I am aware of the 2 common methods people are prescribing (msconfig and F8) but neither are an option in this situation it seems.
Being that I can't log in, and I do not have a second admin account, I cannot use the msconfig method. I've already tried hitting F8 during start and it just gives me the option to either boot my HD or enter bios. I also went through the bios
options and didn't see anything there either. There's got to be another method than the two I've previously mentioned, right? Or am I just missing something simple here?

== Solved problem myself ==
heres how for those with same problem: after hard restarting my computer quite a few times (apparently its SUPPOSED to do this each time but other folks on the internet and myself find it to only work 40% or less) it went into automatic repair mode.
after that ran through, to no avail (BIG surprise), it allowed me to enter Command Prompt mode outside of windows. there I was able to enable a safe mode boot loop so each time my computer boots it automatically goes into safe mode. fixed what
i needed and undid the safe mode loop in msconfig.
back to business as usual! woot wootAsus boards BIOS Boot Menu key is F8... this is annoying if you use their boards with Windows installed, as it is also the key for getting the Windows boot menu.
What needs to be done is use the F8 to get the menu, select the hard disk (or boot manager if EFI) and then start hitting F8 after you press enter on the boot device. This is the easiest way I've found, as trying to guess when the boot is handed off from
the board to Windows is hit and miss. -

Hi,
I've tried changing the BIOS boot logo of my Thinkpad E420, but a specific image isn't working, for some reason. I use the last "BIOS update utility", being 1.26, from here. No error shows up during the upgrade.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT037710
This is what I should do to change the BIOS Logo:
* NOTES ON CUSTOM START UP IMAGE *
* THIS VERSION OF THE FLASH UPDATE PROGRAM GIVES THE OPTION OF *
* REPLACING (OR ELIMINATING) THE DEFAULT "LENOVO" IMAGE THAT IS *
* DISPLAYED DURING SYSTEM START UP. *
* GUIDELINES FOR CUSTOM START UP IMAGE: *
* 1. THE IMAGE FILE SIZE IS LIMITED TO 30KB. *
* 2. RESOLUTION OF THE IMAGE SHOULD BE LESS THAN 640X480. *
* 3. VALID FORMATS FOR THE IMAGE ARE AS FOLLOWS: *
* BITMAP (.BMP) FILE FORMAT *
* JPEG (.JPG) FILE FORMAT *
* GIF (.GIF) FILE FORMAT *
* STEPS TO ENABLE CUSTOM START UP IMAGE: *
* 1. PREPARE YOUR IMAGE AND COPY IT TO THE SAME PLACE WHERE *
* WINUPTP.EXE EXISTS. *
* 2. RENAME THE IMAGE AS FOLLOWS. *
* BITMAP FILE --> LOGO.BMP *
* JPEG FILE --> LOGO.JPG *
* GIF FILE --> LOGO.GIF *
* 3. RUN WINUPTP.EXE AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. *
* AFTER YOU UPDATE THE BIOS ON YOUR SYSTEM, YOUR LOGO WILL *
* APPEAR ON THE STARTUP SCREEN. *
Interestingly, this image work as it should:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/600u9o08a1ax1wp/LOGO_OLD.jpg
But this one don't:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/hrayfjslyv57o53/LOGO.JPG
I never get any error during the update, I click "YES" on the popup "Custom image was found, do you want to use it", but if I chose the second image, I get a black screen at the BIOS logo (Computer continue booting normally, and I can access the BIOS - but I have a black screen).
What's wrong with the second image? How is the second image different from the first one, that does work? I don't get it. :/
I can also succesfully restore the BIOS logo to the Default, if I delete LOGO.JPG from the update folder.
Thanks for the help.Hi GameX,
the only difference that I can see immediately is something which caused me problems with a particular web publishing software once, took me ages to find the bug. Your second picture has JPG as the ending, the first jpg - maybe the utility is case sensitive on file endings??

Those specifications are not for the "last" mac mini, but for the mid-2011 Mac Mini: Macmini5,2.
While that model came with Lion and could not be downgraded to Snow Leopard out of the box, look for the work done by newfoundglory https://discussions.apple.com/people/newfoundglory in this thread on how to accomplish an install of Snow Leopard that will allow that model of Mac Mini to boot into Snow Leopard, if it is that important to you:

Strange device in list in Find my iphone app
I have just found strange device in list in Find my iphone app, how can this happen? Whom can I contact to check this?
Hi Bucknamc,
I would recommend doing one of two things:
1) As Gail suggested, go to Settings > iCloud > Find my iPhone, and turn it on. If you are going to do this, you should also go to Settings > General > Restrictions on your child's phone, and select "Don't allow changes to accounts." This will ensure your child does not enable other iCloud functions, which would cause your data to appear on each other's devices.
2) This is a better solution, in my opinion, since it does not involve sharing an Apple ID. If your child has their own Apple ID (you can create one at http://appleid.apple.com), you can download the Find my Friends app and add them on there. There is also a setting in the Restrictions menu to prevent Find my Friends from being turned off. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/find-my-friends/id466122094?mt=8 -

Hi Ken,
Wow, I've logged into adobe and never seen your response until now.
I need to make the forums more of a daily stop I guess.
Thank you for your response, When I go to the Archives, it states I have none. In addition, previously when I'd tried to move items to the archive, they just disappeared
Currently my desktop is not connecting at all, Everytime I connect, it's states "We have now logged you out" and requests I login again.
I have of course rebooted,
Gone into taskmanager, killed all the relevant threads, tried again to login through the desktop, no luck, I'll have to uninstall it, make sure the threads are killed, then reboot it and then reinstall it, but I've not had the time to do that.
On another note, and just as a point of reference, myself, personally, I hate these "cloud" file repositories (not to be confused with adobe cloud services which I love) but the file repositories themselves imho, are a blackhole of resource usage when one doesn't/isn't using them,
Is there a way we can use it more of a "ftp" sort of thing, when I want to I can put files there? There is no way to "Download" the repository, no way to download the folders.. only individual files and then it takes I think three different steps before the download starts.. I find this very inhibiting. Just an fyi. for what it's worth.
Please, feel free to contact me,
I'm on g+ chat [email protected]
