Strange black and white capture on DV NTSC camera

Hello,
I am currently using a Canon ZR100 camcorder for a project of mine, and I capture the film with Premiere Pro CS3. It has been capturing correctly in color for a week, and then suddenly, just two days ago, it began capturing in a monochrome/black and white. On the preview window while it is capturing the film, it is black and white, but when I actually have the clip on the timeline of PP, it is in color. When I render the video, it turns back into black and white. This is all very confusing, because the clip turns into color once placed on the PP timeline.
If someone knows what is going on, like a broken firewire or something, please help!
Thank you

  • Black and white capture on canopus 300

Hello everybody, I'm new to this forum (and Macs and FCP) and I think this is a basic qustion, but I searched everywhere and couldn't get a solution.
Well, my problem is that I capture analog images using canopus advc-300 and it works very well with everything I tried (Sony Hi8, DVD) except capturing VHS...
My footage is in color, but the image appears black and white. Searching for an answer, it seems it's a composite/component problem, but I couldn't find anywhere in the settings where I could change it (not in the OS X or the ADV software).
I would apreciate some guidance in this matter, and please let me know if you need more information on my problem.
Thanks in advance and all the best

  • Edit view changes black and white photos to "negative" effec

I'm having a strange problem with certain black and white photos. In thumbnails, they look fine. But when I view them in Edit mode, or double click one to see the detail, it switches over so that it looks like a negative.
Anyone have any idea what the cause of this is, and how to fix it?
    Thanks much,
    S

You can't take black and white photos with a digital camera. They all have an RGB sensor, so they all shoot full colour. What happens is that your camera tags the photo with a label > show me in B%W. iPhoto doesn't know about this label, so it shows you the image as it is.
Going forward, you'll probably be able to render better versions of B&W on your computer than with your camera. You'll have more control.

  • When i try to print in black and white, my picture is flooded with blue ink

hi! I made sure all the printing settings were correct. I did a clean of the heads and made sure the inks were all full. I set the printer to print six by four inches and used hp advanced photo paper. I set the print to grey scale, as there is no settings for black and white.
when the picture came through, it started grey scale and further down the picture was flooded with blue ink. I have a all in one printer fax C309 series. can anyone help me please?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

This seems like the printhead may have a problem. Lets go to printing preferences for the printer(these may already be set this way if so let us know). In this window on the left column of printing shortcuts lets choose Fast/Economical and set Print in Grayscale on the right to "Black ink only". If your setting was set to high quality try printing again. If you were already set to "Black ink only" under the Grayscale option the printer may require servicing.

  • NTSC version in black and white

I converted an iDVD project from PAL to NTSC format. Both worked well on my Mac, but my Dad said his NTSC copy played in black and white on their (NTSC) DVD player.
Any explanations for it and suggestions about what I can do to solve the problem?
    Thanks,
    Caroline

Hej Bengt. I think I did that.
I started the new iDVD project by changing to NTSC format from the Preferences before putting (again, which I did earlier for the PAL version) the pictures, transitions and music. Then I added movies which were converted to NTSC from PAL, and then burned the project on a DVD.
The movies and slideshows are all in B&W.

  • My color video is capturing in black and white.

I'm using final cut pro version 3.0 and for some reason my video, which I'm absolutely positive is in color, is capturing on my computer in black and white. Does anybody have any idea why this is happening? Any help would be greatly appriciated.
      Mac OS X (10.3.5)

I have to use the media converter because I can't capture directly from the tape deck. I guess it's converting the recording on the tape to something digital that will work on the computer. There's no way to hook up a firewire to the tape deck.
I would say it's the media converter but I used it on another computer a few days ago and it worked fine. I think it's something wrong with the computer or the program. This one in particular seems to be having problems. Apparently this has happened before.

Andy- I too just got the Pro9000 and can't seem to get the correct colors through PSE. I do my color or bW printing from the Easy Print Pro which comes with the printer. In order to access it, because it was intended as a plug in for Photoshop CS, I go through Digital Photo Professional, which came with my Canon Rebel. - see the old topic Color Management Again

  • Canopus ADVC110 is giving me Black and White picture which is misaligned

Very new to Analogue to Digital converting so please forgive ignorance!
I am in the UK. I have Canopus ADVC110 is giving me black and white pictures which is misaligned and shows specked picture noise. I see bottom on one frame and top of another with a black line ("frame" rebate?) running through the middle of the monitor screen in iMovie.
I have leads from my camera plugged into the front of box and firewire out of the back into MacBook Pro running iMovieHD v6.0.3.
I have set the dip switches to both PAL and NTSC just in case I got the output from my camera wrong (even tho' says Pal on it).
In iMovie I choose DV as video format and it picks 29.97 fps automatically. iMovie shows me the capture is NTSC from the Canopus box.
The Canopus website has poor support so I am at Discussions mercy!

As you're in the UK, you MUST use the 'PAL' setting, and choose a new Project in iMovie to be 'PAL' ..that's 25 frames per second.
If you do that, your import will be OK, instead of of shifted and black-&-white.
Work with Pal throughout (25fps) and you'll be OK. Set iMovie's Preferences to PAL 25fps, then Quit iMovie and restart it, to force all future Projects to be PAL 25 fps.
Do the same, too, for iDVD if you're going to use that to burn DVDs after you've edited your movies.

  • Lightroom changes color photos to black and white error

When I import NEF files into LR, they initially display as Colour, then during the render process, LR changes them to black and white. It has never down this in the past, is there a reson why LR is doing this now? The photos are colour (as shown in Capture NX and Windows explorer), and during importing, I selected 'None' for the develop setting. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Thank You :-)
Particulars: Lightroom 2, Files: NEF (Nikon D300),OS: Windows XP Pro

Thanks Jao, much appreciated...I must of changed the develop setting...now that I recall, I did go into the Develop->Set Default Settings recently. The reset resolved the issue.

  • 80GB ipod only outputs in black and white

I just bought a new 80GB 5th Gen iPod and hooked it up to my TV and it only outputs the picture in Black and White. If I take my old 60GB 5th Gen iPod it will output a picture no problem in color with the same TV and the same cable hooked up the same way.
All TV out settings are the same:
TV Out: Ask (I turn to ON)
    NTSC
    Widescreen On
Cable: Apple's iPod AV Cable M9765G/A
The weird thing though is if I take my new 80GB 5th Gen iPod and hook it up to my "MyVu" headsup display, it displays in color. It just won't do it on my TV.
Why won't it display color on my TV?

Try a different Video file on the 80 GB;to see if any changes? Are there any other title;s Videos are Podcast,
TV Shows that will playback in color-- if so It's possible that your file format is not compatible.
Check to see how the video files are define by format, frame rate etc; that your using as a reference to playback on TV.
See if you have any other Video's on the 80GB that will play in color.
Make sure your 80GB is using Itunes Version 7.0 or higher

  • RGB Only Prints in Black and White

My Illustrator CS3 seems to have developed a strange problem.  If I create a new RGB based document, a 'Web Document' or a 'Basic RGB Document' for example, and the print it, I only get a black and white print.  If I create a CMYK based document it prints just fine.  I have also tried creating a CMYK document and converting it to RGB and that prints fine too, but if I create an RGB document and convert to CMYK again I get a black and white print.
I have checked each of the colour profile and print dialog boxes to see if there are any differences bewteen a RGB sourced document and a CMYK sourced document but can't see anything obvious.  This problem seems to have developed over the past couple of weeks as it used to print RGB without a problem.
Any help would be much appreciated as I've been going round in circles with this for hours.  I should perhaps add that I'm no Illustrator expert!
    Thanks.

I have found a solution to the problem by installing and using the PCL 6.0 driver instead of the PostScript driver (interestingly the PostScript driver is recommended by Xerox).
I am guessing that there must be a small error/discrepancy in the Xerox PostScript driver as it works fine in all other applications and indeed even in Illustrator with everything but RGB colour mode.
This also stacks up against the way the problem materialised as it seems that the error is only apparent in the latest driver, the previous driver (as shipped on CD with the printer) works correctly (it was updated by a Microsoft Update Patch originally).
It would be nice to raise this problem with Adobe and Xerox, but I wouldn't know where to start, so I'll stick with the PCL driver.

  • Watching Movies: iPod to TV- black and white and split screen. Help?

    I have this cable: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2994604
As you can see, the chord colors on that cable are red, green, and white. The places where the chords go in on my DVD player are yellow, red, and white. As you can tell, they don't go up. I connected them so the audio works fine, but the movie shows up ONLY in black and white, and the screen is split right down the middle. On my iPod, the 'Video Setting' do not fix this. I also have the iPod Classic 80 GB, for reference.
    Help?

Toggle between PAL and NTSC on video setting.

  • Vox S-Video input is black and white

After a few issues, my Vox is up and running. The picture quality is disappointing on the TV broadcasts but of more issue for me is a problem with the S-Video input.
The main reason I bought this was to capture old videos and transfer them to DVD. I have a scart lead attached to the back of the VCR with S-Video, Composite Video and Audio phono plugs on the other end. Using the composite video phono plug the picture is fine and I can capture the video. If I swap to use the S-Video plug (my preference as the quality should be better) it comes through in black and white. However, if I plug the S-Video and audio phonos into a television, the picture is fine.
Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas what might be wrong?
    Thanks,
    Andrew.

Hi Andrew.  I have the same problem.  Have you found a way round the problem?

  • [SOLVED] xfce+slim, suspend to RAM causes black and white strips

I recently installed a fresh copy of Arch. When I click the "suspend to RAM" xfce button the screen turns off as it should, but when I try to resume I see 5 columns of black and white stripes (like a flattened checkerboard ). Alternatively when I click the "suspend to disk" (hibernate) button the screen turns black but the backlight is still on, the only way to get out of this state is to do a force shutdown with the button.
I don't know if this is just an xfce problem, or if slim is also part of the problem, but it doesn't hurt to let you guys know about that as well.
Reading about this problem somewhere else as a probably graphics driver issue, here's my graphics card:
NVIDIA Corporation G72M [Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300] (rev a1)
and I installed the Nvidia nouveau driver from here. I didn't see anything on that page about this kind of issue.
I also tried to add "ck-launch-session dbus-launch" to my .xinitrc file, I knew it probably wasn't the solution but I wanted to try anyways. didn't work.
I also have 2 gigs of RAM and 3 gigs in swap partition.
    What do you guys think?

I have a slight newbie question that's related to my problem: after installing pm-utils am I supposed to have a file /etc/pm/config.d/modules? I reread the docs on suspend and standby here and the instructions are implying I should already have such a file, (since they say to modify it rather than create it), but I've installed and reinstalled the pm-utils and don't have any file there.
It's kind of important too, since i'm thinking I should put my graphics driver as one of those suspended modules...
Edit: one more interesting tid bit, when I use "pm-suspend" in the tty command line (by disabling the slim service and never going to xfce) I suspend fine. I need to have root privileges but I can just use sudo. (this is another reason why it could be a graphics card issue or I guess a privileges issue, hmm)
Edit2: I just tried to login as root from slim and hitting the suspend button, but got the same issue. So it's likely not a privileges issue. Strange.

  • My iPod connects to my TV just fine, but it only plays in black and white,

i can connect it and get it to play videos, but it will only play in black and white. i know the videos are color, but none is coming up. any ideas on problems or ways to fix it?

So just the three RCA jack type, one side into your iPod's headphone jack and then Video and L&R Audio RCA plugs at the other end?
Did you check your iPod's video settings to make sure you are not sending out PAL when you want NTSC or sending out NTSC when you want PAL?
