Strange bong, more of a bleep?

Hi all, I'm using Tiger, lately noticed the start-up bong has changed to a bleep and the screen opens white with no apple, just some text saying something about typing mac-boot, I usually press the restart nipple on the front of the G4 case at this point and the normal start up commences. Should I worry?
(I am getting the console Bonjour sleep proxy error message but have been advised to ignore it as OS10/4 just logs the failed attempt to wake the machine, it does not 'do' anything*

Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.
I'd start by re-seating the RAM.

ITunes 7.0.2 doesn't install, iTunes store is strange, and more...

Clicking "Support" brings me to the Japanese apple web site.
When I try to install 7.0.2 I get this message: This installation cannot directly upgrade the version of iPod software found on this computer. Please uninstall the iPod software and try again.
I've uninstalled the iPod software, removed iTunes and QuickTime, I physically deleted all the folder from the Program File directory, restarted, then used a registry cleaner, and tried again.
I can't even find anything named "iPod" in my Add/Remove Programs list, nor in the Program Files folder (although the old version of iTunes does still "talk" to my iPod while it's plugged into my computer). Should I be looking somewhere else for this software? Is there some .dll file in the Windows System 32 folder that I need to delete too? What file is the installer hitting that causes this error?

okay, try downloading and installing the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to check for any installation configuration information entries for "iPod Updater [date]" or "iPod for Windows [date]". if you find any, remove them with CleanUp.

Strange pulse of scan lines when powerd up!

Hi
My iPhones been working fine till the past few days, when I hit the wake button there is a second pulse of scan lines border over my screen then faids away! Any ideas?
Also I noticed I'm haveing trouble with buffered video over wifi&3g the phone refusers to buffer enough to keep playing and stops every few seconds!
Any ideas guys? really buggin me and it's Xmas now! Phones running 3.1.2

Yeah its a strange fault more noticeable on wallpaper that had a black or dark background! its like a pulse of grey horizontal lines around the edge of the screen then quickly fade inwards!
Anyone have a clue on this?

Problem on fast, Turbo, Ultra Turbo. bios 1.5 still buggy.

Ok, I'm using my 875P neo(1.5 bios) as a realtime video editing system, I have realtime Video out both on Analog and DV (Firewire) with a Canopus card DV Storm 2.
First i thought my canopus card is broken because I have Flickering and nothing than digital blocks out of the DV Output which is really strange but more important i cannot use this. :(
I gladly found out that's not my Storm card but the Ultra turbo setting , i changed to fast, turbo, No Luck and a bit of system instability.
Everything will Only function properly when set to Slow mode X( voilá problem Ficksed! :] but that's a ridiculous performance in slow mode compared to ultra turbo! (benchmark shows write performance less than a 2.4Cghz processor an another brand mobo)(I'm using 3.0Cghz) 8o
I think i'm not the only one with strange problems like this, damn MSI you got some work here.
I hope MSI will Improve a lot with a new bios update if not i will choose an other brand mobo.

There is no guarantee that Ultra-Turbo setting will run 100% stably on ALL SYSTEMs where as each system consists of different sets of hardware. But there are some cases and their system specs are superbly well to support Ultra-Turbo setting. If all system can run at Ultra-Turbo, then there will be no Slow,Fast and Turbo mode anymore!
Based on what factors make you think that your Canopus card can support those faster settings?? Why don't you try to take the card off your system and go with the Ultra-Turbo or Turbo mode.

Error in creating dynamic view

If i hardcode the condition in the defenation of view then it works fine. Any solution of it.

It looks strange.And more so, since the view name seems the same across each invocation (unless the example is missing that detail). So, if two users were creating this view one after the other and then subsequently try to use it, what would each user see in their output???
Not the rows based on their where condition, possbily.
You would create the view only once with all the necessary joins and any static conditions. Then users would use it as and when necessary, supplying their custom where condition on top of it.
What is the need you are trying to solve using this dynamic view creation?

All of a sudden no sound - please help

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-bit version with a X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro card and all of a sudden I noticed I don't have any sound coming from my speakers anymore and when I in iTune for example press the play button to play a song the play button changes to a pause button indicating the play button has been pressed but I don't get any sound and the time counter showing where in the song I am is not moving but just stays at 0 seconds into the song. When I press the pause button it returns to a play button again. I haven't changed anything in my system when it comes to drivers etc before this happened, it happened all by itself sort of speak. The only thing I could think of that might have caused this is if some automatic Microsoft updates for Vista 64-bit got installed affecting the Creative drivers for my sound card.
If I go into Vista's?sound settings I see my X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro card in there and it is reported to be?working but if I click configure and then press the Test button which normally cycles a tone between my speakers (I have a 5. speaker system) same thing happens as in iTunes ie the play button goes into a stop button indicating?it has been pressed but no sound?is coming from any speaker and then when I press the Stop button it returns to a Test button again. I have also checked in Device Manager for any problems but no exclamation marks or anything else strange in there - everything looks normal.
I have tried re-installing the drivers?but still same problem, I have also tried removing all the Creative drivers all together running in Safe Mode in Vista and then reinstall them once again but still no go. The only way for me to get sound from my X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro card right now is by unstalling the Creative drivers and instead use Windows Vista's built-in drivers identifying the sound card as a 'High definition audio device' and this way the sound is working just fine with sound coming from all speakers. Of course I could stay with using Vista's default driver since this is working but it would still be nice to be able to use the real Creative drivers for my card and I by not using them I guess I'm also missing lots of other functionality I get with using the real Creative software and drivers.
Anyone else seen this or has a clue what might be wrong?here?

Sounds similar but still not the same issue I guess because I have the problem regardless what application I'm using, I don't even get the internal Windows sounds when I have the Creative drivers installed.

Wifi issues all of a sudden in lion. Please help.

Problem: i have 2 macs, 2 pc's, playstation, iphone and ipad on one network for years. No issues. Then one day both mac minis stopped getting wifi internet. Thought it was the router but all other devices still got wifi.
i created new wifi connections, deleted the old ones, made sure dhcp is not set to manual. Fixed permission and still no go. This just stopped working all of a sudden. Changed from N wifi speed to G wifi speed and it seemed to work for a few days. Then it went back out. I bought a new router think that would fix it and the same is happening.
I have gotten several different messages such as "Wi-Fi does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet." Another saying I have a set IP address and cannot to Internet.
Any ideas or suggestions?

17" iSight model - need help

Hi, I just received an imac 17" iSight the other day off of ebay. I am working to become an ACMT, so I wanted some machines to practice on. Let me give you all of the background.
When I first received the machine, it had an LCD issue which I took care of. I then wiped the hard drive (via TDM) and ran AHT. It gave me an error on the primary SATA drive. I went ahead and removed it, as well as the extra DIMM module. Reran AHT... looped it 5 times with no errors. I then tried installing Tiger from a retail install DVD... but the Apple just shows up and never gives me the spinning wheel. I let it sit for about 30 minutes and got nowhere. I then tried starting it up via TDM from a Powermac G4 running Tiger. It started, but took about 20 minutes to get to the desktop (Note that this system takes about 30 seconds to start when booted on the Powermac). I then rebooted the machine, but this time used Verbose mode to see if I could diagnose what was taking so long. Everything seemed to go quickly until it got to this -

It would sit on this, and then repeat it about 5-10 times until it said
*Netinfo connection failed for server 127.0.0.1/local*
*Firewire (OHCI) AppleID 52 builtin: 1250 bus resets in last minute*
It would then repeat the process about three times over, until it eventually started up and got me to the desktop. Once there, you may as well have called it "Mac OS 10.4 Turtle" it was so slow. I checked the onboard diagnostic LEDS while the machine was running, they were fine (1,2 & 3 were lit). There is no SATA drive installed and only the onboard RAM (512 MB) was installed. No peripherals of any kind were installed other than the Target Disk used to start. The Target Disk is a known good disk and can start up other PowerPC machines via TDM perfectly.
Any suggestions? I'm kind of at a dead end other than what Verbose mode told me... seems like it has something to do with networking? Kind of strange.

Someone more tecky/geeky knowledgeable will need to chime in here regarding the verbose messages.
As to why the computer will not start up from a known good target drive.......Could be many reasons. Power issue? Who knows?
Since you purchased a "used" computer, no telling what the original owner did to it or what is really wrong with it unless they honestly told you! You're buying someone else troubles/problems. It's a chance you take when purchasing off of eBay, Craigslist, etc.

As you may probably already know, the iSight models are not user repairable (except for RAM installations) when it comes to hardware. You will be hard pressed trying to find parts for it on your own. You just may end up taking the comp to your local AASP.

I think my computer has a virus.

My mac has been running slow, freezing a lot, and not responding well. I think it may have a virus. How can I get rid of this bug? Is there a mac antivirus program that really works? Should I call a computer expert to fix my computer, or should I take my computer to a computer store for help? Your input is apreciated.

For some things, yes. Some MS Office macro viruses will execute at least part way on a Mac, infecting files such as the standard templates in Word and Excel. Then any Office file opened or created after the infection will have the virus, too. The virus may not intentionally do anything to the Mac, though because many are badly written they can have side effects which are annoying. In fact, one good way to detect an Office macro infestation is if Word starts to behave strangely. (More strangely than usual, that is.) If those files are sent to Windows machines, the viruses execute as they're intended to to, and many of them do things which are way beyond annoying.
Windows trojans and some other malware don't execute at all on Macs, but if the file containing them is transferred to a Windows box, they run.
It's just that my Dad has made install a virus
checker on my powerbook, which I feel is completely
unnecesary, and it has been causing problems.
Remove Norton Anti Virus immediately. It's worse than any Mac virus going back to the autostart worm. Virex has problems which can be worked around, but it takes effort. ClamXav doesn't seem to cause problems and it's free. If you have to have antivirus, you might want to look at <http://www.clamxav.com/>.
In response to the original question, have you tried
running the hardware check disk, or booting of the
install disk and repairing the hard drive permissions
etc?

Music player on N97 only shows 2 days of songs.

That's right. When you open music player and go to "All Songs" you know you normally see how many hours/days of music you have on your phone in total up at the top. I just got up to 2 days and when I tried to load on more songs.....the stats just vanished.....**bleep**!
I turned off the phone a few times and nothing helped. I deleted some songs and it came back showing 1 day 23 hours. Tried putting back on more music and **bleep**! disappeared again. Was wondering if maybe my player can only show up to 2 days? Just curious. see attached.
Anyone else had this happene to them?

Ok..... I guess it was just the phone acting up. As usual the phone would freeze ever so often then I'd shut it off and reboot it and everything was all good for a time until it froze again. (sigh) Then suddenly the music duration counter reappeared one day to let me know I had 2days and 2 hours of music on my phone. Geez.... Can't wait to get the N8 to replace this thing.!

Packet loss after bonding + vlan

Hi, I am hoping someone may help me with this issue:
I have a motherboard with 2 Intel NICs.
I created a bonding interface, mode = 4 (LACP), and assigned no IP to it.
create one vlan to internet (dhcp)
another vlan to local network (static)
both NICs are connected to the same switch, and LACP configured on the ports
Problem:
ping from this one to any other pingable hosts gave strange result, more or less half of the packets are lost.
when I pulled of one cable, the ping returned to normal...
something is definitively wrong here, tried to connect the ports to two diffrent switches, same result.
other computers using LACP has no such problem in the same network.
If someone has any idea, I will be very greatful. otherwise it seems to be a very time consuming problem to solve. (I have tried to google yesterday without success).

I located the issue of the packet loss. I have a security system that uploads FTP images of the cameras and after the reboot of the network, the only computer that wasn't shut down was the security camera PC.
So I think what happened was after I brought everything back up, it was saturating the outgoing bandwidth, causing packet loss and high latency. Once I determined what it was and shut off the FTP image upload, the pings stabilized and it is working fine now. Trace routes are still not functioning, but I can live without that for now.

Problem with Script logic logs

I am using BPC 7.5M with SQL Server 2008, I am looking into script logic log but found one very strange statement "(More than 300,000 records. Details are not being logged)", Earlier it was not showing this statement and was showing all the entries to be posted, Is there any setting we need to do for having all the entries in the log file.

Hi Rohit,
This is not a problem.
If the resultant number of records is more than 300,000, then the records are not logged.
This can be controlled by the UNLIMIT_PRINT_LOG appset parameter. By default, this is set as NO. This will allow only 300k records to be logged.
You can set the above parameter as YES to log all the records for the execution of all logics across the appset in all applications.
Warning:
Of course, it will add slow down the logic execution. Logging the records will always slow down the execution. The system has to open the file and keep writing all the records in the flatfile, which is a slow process. You can increase the speed of your logics by disabling this logging completely by using the CALCULATE_DIFFERENCE statement in your script logic for each commit section. You can reduce the logic execution time by disabling this logging.

Photos often not uploading to PhotoStream

Lately, Photostream has been acting very strange. More often than not, photos I take on my iPhone won't transfer to Photostream. It's not happening all the time, but definitly most of the time. Anyone else experiencing this?

This is happening to me too, also when I try to save to my camera roll on my iPad it sometimes saves some of my selected pictures and sometimes none atall.

Problems transfering music library from RealPlayer to IPOD

Just bought the 80 gb IPOD. When I transerred my music library, which is very large and (unfortunately) on RealPlayer, many of the songs are cut off when I play them on the IPOD. They still work fine in RealPlayer on my computor. But the IPOD cuts out (and goes on to the next song) when there is approximately 15% of the song left to play. Very strange.
More key facts: 1. library is about 68GB. 2. All of the library was originally saved using the RealPlayer software. 80% of the library is in the RealAudio format (.ra extension); the balance is with the MP3 format. The songs that cut out on the IPOD are all ones that were saved with the RealAudio format. The ones with the MP3 format work fine on the IPOD. So, 80% of my songs on the IPOD end early 3. Most of the songs were saved on the then-current RealPlayer version during 2004 or 2005. So it was not ancient technology. All was saved at 192kb/s whether it was in MP3 or RealAudio format. Any help would be very much appreciated.

That is the problem. That format is not compatible with the iPod.
You need to convert them to a format that is.

A very annoying problem.

For some strange reason, on my home screen/display just below where it says "Blackberry", it normaly just say's 02.
Since yesterday it still say's 02 but now has UK local area codes after it. i.e 01752, 01579, 01822 etc etc. Any ideas you good Blackberry folk.

Ok, to stop the mad rush to help I have found the solution myself.
For some reason in options/advanced/cell broadcast, cell broadcast was enabled for some reason!! Anyway - I turned it off and this most strange,well, more annoying really, problem dissapeared.
