Strange box appearing, also my apple option shows twice what it should
A few days ago, my computer froze because of a game I was playing. Once I restarted it, a box appeared. What it is is a black outline of the last thing I selected. At the moment, it's under my OS thing, because I just set it to Mac OS X (10.4.5).
Is there any way to get rid of it?
Also, under the apple option up top, i have two options for restart, shutdown, and logout. it looks like this:
Sleep
Restart...
Restart
Shut Down...
Shut Down
Log Out Esteban Selaya...
Log Out Esteban Selaya
I think the two problems may be connected, possibly my computer is in safe mode or something like that? I'd really would like to fix this if at all possible.

You have accidentally enabled VoiceOver.
• The black rectangle appearing around interface objects such as buttons, fields, and others is known as the VoiceOver Cursor.
• VoiceOver also duplicates certain items in the Apple menu: see "Mac OS X 10.4: Some Apple menu items appear twice."
If you do not need VoiceOver, turn it off in the System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing tab.

Wherever I put my cursor in any DW page, design, split, or code presentation, a strange little box appears near the cursor and only goes away when I click the cursor in another place on the page and this it reappears within about 2 seconds.
I had trouble taking a screen shot of it. This was the best I could get because it quickly disappears when you setup for the screenshot.
This drives me just slightly batty. Has any one seen this before? It started about a month ago, but I'm finally really tired of it and want to banish it!It's the Code Navigator. If you click it, you'll get a list that allows you to inspect, and navigate to the CSS of the current location within your page.
Open it, and you'll see the checkbox at the bottom right that lets you disable it.
Once disabled, the icon won't show up again, but you can activate the Code navigator in Windows by holding down Alt and clicking. On a Mac, hold down Opt + Cmd and click. -
The power comes on. Screen turns white. The start up sound plays, the apple symbol come up the loading bar show up but do not show any sign of loading. The loading circle appears and spins. Then the loading bar disappears and the. The screen goes black and power goes off. I've tried unplugging, command alt escape, and command alt p r, no effect. Any other suggestions???

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -
This did not happen on my laptop when I installed the Microsoft Office home & student edition, and my laptop also has Windows 7 and I use Firefox. Please help!

I Have my movie rented from I tunes downloaded on my I-pad. ( it took 12 hours to download) I have my Apple TV attached to my Television which is HDML capable etc. When I hit the Mirror Image button the square box appears but without the option to tick Apple TV. So nothing will syncronise. It used to work. I've tried disconnecting the power , not sure what to do next. Help!

From what I understand, when I hook up my computer to my TV, the only thing I need to do, (in order for audio to be transmitted from my TV) is to 'select a device for sound output' in System Preferences. But my computer does not read or register at all that it is connected to any device. The picture is all there on my TV and the connection is there, but it is not showing me any other option to select for sound other than Internal Speakers. Here is a screen grab. The sound from my TV is totally fine when I watch it. Are you saying I might need to make an adjustment in my TV setting? -
A strange box opens when launching application. It causes Firefox to freeze in place
When launching the most recent version of Firefox a strange box appears at the top that effectively keeps me from using the browser. Also, I can't seem to add an image to this request.

Strange things appears suddenly in the iPhone 3GS

I am writing in this forum because something strange occurs with my iPhone 3GS, not always. Suddenly, when I have the iPhone locked, a strange screen appears.

Anybody knows what does it means? It goes by as the same quickness than it appears.This is known as "flash" or "class 0" sms ot text. The message appears directly on the screen and isn't saved in the sms message log. It is utilized by some network administrators and sometimes by others if they know the right codes. Not all cell networks support them and iPhones sometimes don't handle them properly.

There are two choices of selected start up disks:Main HD and Recovery HD, appearance without hold down option key. On the other hand, it start up normally show apple picture when I hold option key.

Welcome to Apple Discussions
First go to *System Preferences > Startup Disk* > select the *Mac OS X 10.5. on Macintosh HD* > click the Lock > hit the Restart button.
Then if the iMac is still having trouble starting up, insert your Install Disk and restart holding the Option key. In Startup Manager select the Install Disk and boot into it, choose your language, skip the Installer and go up on the menu bar to Utilities and open Disk Utility. In Disk Utility select your Macintosh HD and hit the Repair button. Once finished note any errors and what was repaired for future reference. Quit Disk Utility and restart once again holding the Option key boot back into the Macintosh HD and eject the Install Disk.

When I attempt to send a text from the new iPad, a dialog box appears with the option to either sign in with Apple ID Password or Create New Account. I try signing in using my Apple ID password but IMessage informs me that email address cannot be verified because it is already in use ??? What am I doing wrong?
settings -> iTunes & App Store
click on apple ID listed there
select Sign Out
sign in with the proper account
from then on, when the store ask for your password it should be with the correct ID -
When I watch slide show through my Apple TV version 6..2 the air play instruction box appears always on the screen and hides the photo. Is there any way to stop it.

It sounds as if your Apple TV is in Conference Room Display mode. You will need to turn this off. See this article -

When I try to update or download an app, very often another Apple ID shows up in the Apple ID box and the cursor is in the Password box and I can't move it back to the Apple ID box in order to put my ID in! Apple ID looks like an email address of a colleague in my school system, however, I don't know the person and that person has never logged into my computer.

HEY GUYS I AM USING AN IPHONE 3g and when i connect my device to my laptop a dialog box appears saying that an update of 4.2 is available so went for it.after the firmware is downloaded via itunes it shows that the firmware is invalid!.please help.

PLEASE HELP ME.This means that the phone you have was software unlocked to use on any carrier, or hacked. When you installed the update it restored the lock that originaly came with your phone. Not much you can do now. Apple will not support hacked phones. You will need to find out the carrier your phone is locked to and see if they offer official unlocking, or start googling to see if you can find a way to unlock 4.2.

When i start in "safe mode".... no "reset" option box appears...how do I fix this?
My icons have disappeared from my bookmarks toolbar. Yes there are icons listed under toolbars/bookmarks..they just stopped appearing on the toolbar icon

As instructed I restart in safe mode (hold shift key down while starting firefox) in order to "reset" my bookmarks.
It does restart in safe mode, but no "Firefox Safe Mode" dialogue box appears..so I cannot reset the bookmarks toolbar using the "reset toolbars and controls" option.
*********THIS IS THE PROBLEM....I do not get the "Firefox Safe Mode" dialogue box when I start in safe mode!!
I have also tried disabling all my add-ons manually....and restarting Firefox no success
I have also tried ....<Help/restart with Add-ons disabled> ...no success
I have also tried <run/firefox -safe-mode> in the run box entry area form the windows start menu..no success.
NOTHING works..I cannot get the safe mode dialogue box that gives me the option to "reset toolbars and controls"

TraverMake sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.
*Firefox menu button > Options
*View > Toolbars (press F10 to display the menu bar)
*Right-click empty toolbar area
Use Toolbar Layout (Customize) to open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.
*check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
*if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette into the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
*if missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
*if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar setup

My wife received a new iPad Mini for Christmas-- when connected to iMac, icon appears in iPhoto sidebar; however, there appears to be no option to "unmount." Also, unlike my iPhone 4S whose icon appears in iTunes sidebar, the Mini does not. Any insights?
First open iTunes (version 11). Then connect the iPad. Now is it recognized?

After enabling iCloud, the calendar on my MacBook shows a window stating "moving calendar to server account. Then a box appears saying "server responded with an error message 403. Then another box shows "couldn't move calendar to iCloud, an error occurrre
iCloud's Calendar is full of errors and problems for me. The "Couldn't move your calendars to iCloud because an error occurred" is now gone (by itself) but nothing syncs between my Mac's Calendar to iCloud or my iPhone to iCloud.
I tried creating a new event directly on iCloud.com to see whether it pushes to any of my device and got this "This event couldn't be created because of a server error; please try again." error.
Apple, please fix this!!
