Strange burning issue on Satellite A100

Hi!
I just stumbled on a curious problem. When I burned a DVD with Nero, it worked fine. The 2nd one worked but after playing the movie for about 38 minutes the movie just stops playing and the light on the DVD burner lights up consciously. I've already tried reburning the movie and burned another one but both stop playing after about 38 minutes (burned them with another computer and burner: the movies worked).
But then I notice a lot of errors in the windows log:
Damaged block in device \Device\CdRom0.
And another thing I noticed: the DVDs were burned at 6x, not the 8x speed the burner of this laptop supports.
Does this mean the DVD burner is broken?
With regards,
Bart Grefte

Hi
In my pinion it usually caused by a scratched or damaged cd. Try to clean it and see if it helps. If it works fine with some disks then its not the drive.
Some drives dont accept every media. Many CDs and DVDs are not compatible and therefore the drive burns the files not properly on the CD or DVD.
You could check different medias for the similar problems.
One little tip: In the user manual you should find a list of compatible CD and DVD. I think you should try to burn files or movies on one of the mentioned medias. Possibly it will work.

  • Windows vista issues on Satellite A100-036

Hi. I have a Toshiba satellite A100-036 laptop with windows vista home basic 32 bit and I have the following problems.
1.They replace me the hard disk at a store. I only have the Toshiba recovery dvd that I used to format the windows. They told me that I can't use it any more because the restore partition of the disk is lost. If I want to do a format again what do I have to do?
    2. Every time I turn on the laptop the touchpad scrolling doesn't work. I go to control panel > mouse and it shows me this message: "Unable to connect to synaptics pointing device driver. If you have installed another PS/2 pointing device driver please unistall the synaptics driver by clicking on the yes button. You then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for your external device again. Do you want to unistall the synaptics driver now?" I click No and after that it works again and the synaptics pointing device icon appear again in the task bar. If I restart the laptop it doesn't work again and I have to do the same things.
    3. Every time I turn on the laptop the bluetooth doesn't work and the bluetooth icon doesn't appear in the task bar. I have to go to device manager, unistall the driver, go to control panel > bluetooth local com and it works again. Every time I turn on the laptop I have to do this.
    4. Every time I turn on the laptop the security center is turned off and I have to turn it on or the automatic updates are off and I have to turn them on.
    5. Some times it doesn't install the automatic updates and it shows me the error code 8000FFFF.
    Could anybody help me? Thanks.

If you have created the Toshiba Recovery Disk in the past, you can use it in connection with new HDD. The Toshiba Recovery Disk would set the notebook back to factory settings which mean that you will get installed Windows system, Toshiba drivers and additional software.

Go to Toshiba EU driver page and download the Synaptics touchpad driver. Install the touchpad driver and reboot the notebook. Usually this should fix your issue.

This is strange. Usually the BT should work if BT stack was installed properly. Please note that you have to enable the BT using FN key (FN+F8). This combination enables and disables the WLan too. So ensure you did it correctly.

  • Bluscreen issue on Satellite A100

    Hi,
I just both a Satellite A100 - 788, 8 of 10 times when I am trying to play something in media player I get a blue screen with a message regarding a problem with a file called aativvaxx.dll .... Page fault in nonpage area..... I tried to find a newer driver for the ATI X1400 card but I didn't find any.
    Please help!
    Thanks in advance,
    Eugen

    Hi
    Did you mean the ativvaxx.dll?
I found a useful page which provides a single .dll files:
    http://www.afreedll.com/dll/info/ativvaxx_dll.html
You could try to download this file and could replace the old version with the downloaded version.
But you should firstly check if the downloaded file is a newer version and backup the file before replacing it with a new copy.
But generally you should always use the graphic driver from the Toshiba page.
If you want to use another drivers, you can do it at you own risk.

  • Strange Audio issue on Satellite L650/0FN

I bought a L650/0FN almost twelve months ago and have had trouble with an intermittent audio "buzz" in all audio file types and sources. The problem is now worse in that the "buzz" now appears to blank the screen and freeze the computer with the only way of shutting down being to pull the battery.
I found the following in a forum thread [http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=235672&#235672] and thought it might provide a solution, but when i go to the intel download page the description for this driver is desktop chipsets and I dont find anything on my machine similar to Rapid Storage Technology Drivers so this may be a dead end. This driver seemed to fix a similar problem in the 0ED.

I investigated a litte bit and maybe you could solve this issue updating the iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) V10.1.0.1008.
But before you would do this, you should backup the data from the HDD.
I searched a little bit and the necessary driver V10.1.0.1008.or higher is available for download directly on the INTEL website under following link: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19607/a08/iata_cd.exe "
Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Thanks As***,
By "Factory settings" do you mean the bios settings that came with the computer? To my knowledge those settings are all the same as when I bought the laptop. I haven't changed anything other than loading a few programs ie Word and Photoshop. (Im not sure how to check the bios settings on this machine (?)).
I Don't think i have experienced the "buzz" with headphones plugged in, but again, this is an intermittent problem.
I rang the toshiba service line but the fellow I spoke to wasn't much help unfortunately.
Sorry if my description wasnt very clear I'll try to expand on the problem:
The problem began with what can best be described as a slight audio delay or glitch, sounding like a loud "buzz" or "Brrrrrrr" that would last only a few seconds and replace the sound content. This would occur intermittently and unpredictably when playing various forms of audio (including movies and windows start up). At first I wasn't to bothered but the duration of the "buzz" has grown and then a few days ago it grew so bad the it seemed to kill the laptop screen, as it went blank and no command keys could stop it and thats when I had to pull the battery .
Im just getting a bit nervous as my warranty expires soon.

  • Several issues with Satellite A100-569

    Hello fellow toshers :)
I got a a100 569 laptop from a catalogue last may, last month it had to go off for repairs as the screen kept going blank and had to use the power button to shut it down and restart it again, also excessive paging issues along with my computer screen having a sort of mini earth quake.. so off it went and been back a week and these issues are still happening, i understand i they fitted a new hard drive and some circuit board.
I also have noted that I cant seem to get any upgrades from toshiba anymore regarding memory expansion.. this laptop is not even one year old so would appreciate any help this forum may be able to give me.
I will be ringing Toshiba up first thing tomorrow about the laptop still being faulty, also the online warranty facility doesnt recognise my serial number? very odd.
    cheers people

Ta for the reply.. will try and phase question better but cant guarantee it ;)
I am thinking that 512mb is too low for vista to run properly without any glitches and need to know what MB in need and where to get it.
The issues I am still having is the screen going blank, only way to sort it is to hold down the power button for 5 secs then switch it back on.
Also the page shakes every now and again like a mini earthquake scene one sees at the movies or on the telly.
the laptop is or should be still under guarantee so really toshiba should sort it or give me another laptop.
when I run a systems health check the results say my laptop has excessive paging errors, steps i have taken is to increase the VR from 1024 to 3072 and turn off system restore but it still has excessive paging issues.
I want my laptop to run the way I paid for it to, and that is a laptop that can run windows vista basic without any issues, I am not happy with my laptop only 9 months old and having problems.
so basically i want to know why i am having the above problems and is/should 512mb be enough ram to run vista basic edition or have toshiba sold me a computer that is only up to half the job, if I do need to add more memory where can I get it from and what type as toshiba dont seem to offer any product support for my 9 month old laptop anymore.
thats the best i can do hope it is all crystal :-)

  • Strange keyboard issues on Satellite M40

My Toshiba M40 has been giving me keyboard problems quite frequently. I get funny characters like NB¬A
when I press the left Shift key and then the keyboard starts behaving abnormally:
    1. it shifts to caps mode -- to type lower letters, I have to actually use caps lock.
    2. I can't use the shift key to type in the special characters above the numerals.
    3. clicking on the menu bar gives me a different effect as if the shift key is already pressed while it is not.
    4. pressing the right shift key takes me to the 'save' option.
    5. I can't select one file or folder as several of them selected at one time.
And then I give up, shut down the computer (it doesnt restart at this time)
After some time, the computer starts normally but I am never sure when it will start misbehaving again.
I read about bios update, so got mine updated to the 1.7 version from toshiba website (this is the latest one they had for machines with ATI graphics).
sometimes, i use an external keyboard when the problem occurs repeatedly.
would appreciate advice on how to overcome this software / hardware problem.

    Hi Ashok,
It is not easy to say what is causing this strange behaviour, especially since it also occurs with an external keyboard. One clue is that the notebook will not restart after you shut it down unless you leave it for a short while. This would suggest that the unit is overheating and this may well be affecting the unit causing your problems.
I suggest you try giving the notebook a good clean to remove any build up of dust and debris from the CPU heatsink.
    regards,

  • CD/DVD drive issue on Satellite A100

Hi..I can normally play any type of cd or dvd...the cd or dvd just turns in the computer and it does not open, when i restart the computer and put the cd/dvd in straight after the cd/dvd will play..if i go to play another cd/dvd at a later date, i have to start the whole procedure again, by restarting the computer.
There is no drivers appearing on the computer...that I can see....however everytime I download the latest version of itunes, this seems to cause the problem. In the past this was ok, but now, the problem is just constant.
I don't know how to put this problem right.
    I hope this helps...

    hi chelsea50,
if you are in doubt that itunes causes this problem the easiest thing is to deinstall it...
but you should try to delete the filter drivers of the drive - there are already some posts in this forum - use the search function
the badest thing would be that your drive is defective.. but check out all other possibilities before....

  • Satellite A100-785 PSAANE - CD/DVD drive issue

    Hello Friends,
I own a Toshiba Satellite A100-785 PSAANE and its configurations are as follows:
    1.87 Ghz C2D, 1 Gb Ram (512 + 512), Windows Vista Basic, CD/DVD read/write...
Issue: Its been quite long, i m facing a certain problem with my Optical Drive. When ever I insert an CD which is originally produced by any company it works fine. The moment I insert any CD which is personally burned with some data from any normal CD/ DVD writer or the CDs which were previously created by the same laptop mentioned above, its been read as a blank disc. The data of the disk is not shown.
For eg: Lets say if I insert any software cd like my webcam's cd or my printer's cd they can be read normally and work fine. But the moment I enter any cd which is been burned by me which contains my personal files, that is been read as a blank disc.
This issue does not exists with any of the DVDs. Doesn't matter which every dvd I insert either being a normal software dvd or being the one which is burned as a personal data dvd, everything works fine and all the data in dvd can be read.
I have tried reinstalling the driver, I have tried reformatting my laptop using the Toshiba Recovery CD provided with the laptop, but the issue still exists.
In between few months ago, I tried doing some tweak, like first i insert the cd in the drive and then disable the cd drive and then enabling it again would actually read the cd. But after few tries, this also stopped working.
Now I really have no idea what should I do to make my CDs work normally.
I hope this post can help me out.
    Your help will be appreciated
    Thanks for your precious time
    Regards
    Jeetendra

For me it sounds like a DVD, where the data has been burned, were not fully compatible.
I meet such issue on different computers. A friend of mine has had the similar problem with an non Toshiba notebook. Its matter of the disks which are used for burning.
I tested several brands and now Im using TDK and Verbatim because my CD/DVD drive supports these kind of disk properly.
Of course it could be an hardware issue too but in such case you will need to replace the CD/DVD drive

  • Strange USB Flash Drive Behaviour on Satellite A100-626

    Hello,
I've cleaned install Windows Vista Business Edition on my Satellite A100-626 (PSAA9) following the instructions provided in the Drivers webpage.
So far everything works as expected, except a small (or not) issue.
When I ask Vista to "Safely Remove Hardware" my USB Flash Drive, a Popup appears telling me to remove it. So far, so good :D
The only thing is that the flash drive doesn't power down as one could expect and and yellow question mark appears in device manager.
Opening the question mark one can read the following:
"Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for safe removal, but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47) To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and plug it again."
Following the above instruction the light go out, lol...
Has anyone else encountered this strange behavior? If so, any solution?
Tried a couple of USB flashes that work fine under XP and they both do the same.
    Thank You, Nuno!

    Hi
Found something interesting on the Microsoft website:
To fix this problem, unplug this device from the computer and then plug it in again.
The device has been prepared for ejection.
This error code occurs only if the user used the Safe Removal application to prepare the device for removal, or pressed a physical eject button. Restarting the computer brings the device online if the user does not want to eject from the dock.
Unplug the device, and then plug it in again. Alternately, restart the computer to make the device available.

  • Graphics card issue - Satellite A100-313 shuts down by itself

    I have a satellite A100-313 and I'm using vista.
Everytime when I play games, the notebook shuts itself off after some time. It varies, normally have 10-20min of playing.
And when I immediately turn it on again, I get a black screen but the computer is running. I'd have to wait a while to turn it on again for the screen to work.
So it starts up again and the resolution is changed to 1024x764 (the native resolution is 1280).
I assume it is a graphics card issue (I have a Geforce 7600 Go). I already updated to the latest vista drivers available from the Toshiba site (the one from september).
What can I do to fix this? The automatic shutdown normally only happens when I play games.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hm, sounds tricky.
I can suggest you the following:
Download the latest bios for your machine from the toshiba download site:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
And last but not least, check if your cooling system of your machine is not clobbed with dust. You can clean it up with a can with compressed air to remove the dust from the fan and the heatpipe-fin.
If you have some questions, just ask.
    Nice weekend

  • Function keys issue on a Satellite A100-049

Hello, I am new to this forum so please bear with me if I am in error.
I have just bought a Satellite A100-049 and inadvertently pressed the F10 key. The LED below the key illuminated and I discovered to my horror that I could not type certain letters and, worse, I could not turn off F10, whatever that is! I eventually had to restart.
I can see what F1 to F9 do from the drop down list at the top of the screen, but I cannot work out what F10, F11 and F12 do, and am in constant fear of pressing them again! The handbook and Toshiba web site don't seem to offer any help, although it is probably because I don't know where to look.
Can any of you kind experts out there fill me in?
    Many thanks,
    John

Thank you for that. You are quite right.
I have just downloaded the handbook for this model. I didn't earlier because I thought it would be just the same as the handbook supplied with the computer, but it isn't; it contains much more information, including the answer to my question.
Funny, though, that the F10 function would not turn off (by pressing Fn + F10).
    Anyway, thanks for your response.

  • Satellite A100-206 supervisor password issue

    HI
We have a Satellite A100-206 in the office.
A colleague trying to protect the laptop has set user password in bios.
I don't know what exactly she do but at the bootup a password is requested.
Then she ask me to remove the password so I have typed the password, entred the bios and clear the user password.
But doing this I 've also note that the supervisor password was already set but not selectable (grey colored) .
    Anyhow I've saved and reboot.
The problem is that now the O.S. start without asking a password, but I cannot enter the bios anymore because it ask a password and is not the one the collegue remember to have set.
Why I cannot enter anymore in th bios as user?
I've also search the hwsetup in windows to re set the user password as indicated in the manual but this software is not present.
    best regards
    Diego

    Thank you for the reply.
The operating system is windows xp
I've tried to use hwsetup but i can't find hit in the laptop, reading the manual it should be included in toshiba assist appilcation or locate in the control panel but is not there.
I have tryied also to download toshiba assit from support site and re install but hwsetup is still not present.
I can't find the single program "hwsetup" in the list of software downloadable for my laptop , do you know were I can dowload it or in wich software package is included?

  • Satellite A100 - Bluetooth Peripheral Device issue

    Hello,
I 've just installed Windows 7 on my laptop (Satellite A100-003 PSAAR).
Found and installed all drivers but when I tried to connect my mobile through bluetooth to my laptop I got an error about the specific driver "Bluetooth peripheral device " and couldn't work.
So now, 1 driver remains to be found and its this one(bluetooth pripheral device)
Any ideas from where I can update the driver?

    Yes m8. Already tried this.
I reinstalled both bluetoothstack and bluetooth monitor, But yes i still got this yellow exclamation mark for this device(bluetooth peripheral device) when i reinstalled bluetooth monitor.
By the way the software that comes up with bluetooth stack could not work neither, thats why i reinstalled bluetooth monitor. Its the one i wan to use anyway.
And there were no exclamation marks for any devices before i first tried to connect to my mobile.
All drivers were installed including bluetoothmonitor.

I don't see any for Windows XP. Your best bet to make that computer work as intended is to obtain the recovery discs from Toshiba and return it to Windows Vista Home Basic. Call 866-413-0222 or 416-502-1403.

  • Memory upgrade on a Satellite A100-912

I own a Satellite a100-912 and I want to upgrade its memory!
As it seems, this model supports only PC2-4200 DDR2 SODIMM modules (533 Mhz). Before bying a memory module that might regret, I want to know if there will be any compatibility issues if I use to this laptop PC2-6400 DDR2 SODIMM module (800 Mhz).
Is it going to work even at lower clock speed (533 Mhz) or is it going to be a total waste of money?

As far as I know the FSB is able to handle 667Mhz modules.
You can use lower modules (533Mhz) without any problems but modules with higher Mhz will not run with full speed due to the limited FSB.
So I dont recommend buying 800Mhz modules. Firstly they are not supported and secondly its waste of money!
