Strange case:  trackpad working intermittently - with solution.

Hello Everyone,
I am posting this one in case someone runs into this weird problem.
Recently, I started experiencing problems with my trackpad (MacBook Air - mid2013). The symptoms are as follows:
- Left click stops working. Althoug right click is workine fine. Left click would start working again once in a while.
- Mouse pointer correctly follows trackpad.
- All other trackpad gestures working fine
- Going over the dock doesn't produce the "lense" animation ( ! ).
- Sometimes, a re-boot would fix the problem but usually not.
- The mouse works perfectly fine in the "user selection" screen after the re-boot (left-click works).
I read many threads on the forums here but nothing solved the issue. Because the problem was:
- I had a USB mouse (Magic Mouse), that was ON, under a cushion about 3 meters from the laptop. And somehow it was interfering with the proper functioning of the trackpad.
- Getting the mouse from under the cushion and close to the laptop solved the problem.
This case was so strange that I felt I should write something about it.
Aghiles

I found a solution via users comments on another website: For keyboard problems you have to zap the PRAM; for trackpad problems (including trackpad button) you need to re-set the Power Management Unit. Details at: http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n14449
This seems to have solved my problem completely. For added trackpad functionality though I have also added SIDETRACK - which provides scrolling functions and the ability to tap in just one corner of the trackpad in order to left-click, or right-click. There will be less button pushing in general therefore from me in future!

Not at this time. It would also be great to have an adjustment for sensitivity too.

  • Why does my magic trackpad work intermittently

I have a problem with my trackpad and mouse and hardwired mouse. When I rollover an object and click it doesnt work. I have recently installed LION thinking now that maybe this has caused the problem. I have to reboot several times before it starts working again not happy about doing that. any ideas anyone?

You could take a shot through these:
    Reset your computer's PRAM
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mh26871.html
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
And also pull the com.apple.bluetooth.plist file to the desktop (reboot again) to see what happens.
Also make sure you are not using all peripherals at the same time. Try one at a time.

  • Cannot get Apple Mail to work on Mavericks - Synching not working intermittently with Gmail account

Like many others, I am having issues with Apple Mail on Mavericks.  I have a gmail account and an account that uses IMAP on godaddy domain.  When I do things on my Macbook, they are more or less OK although sometimes there is a delay when deleting mail and having it synch up with my other devices.  However, if I go to my iphone and go thru my mail and then go to my macbook in the evening, i am finding that all of my mail is showing up like I never looked at it before.  All mail is showing up unread, deleted e-mails are in my inbox, etc.  I installed the mavericks update for mail last week, and still things are not working.  I really need some help in resolving this issue.  I expect this kind of stuff from Windows OS upgrades...not Apple

  • E2500 works intermittently with Macs

Frequently lose internet connection.  Firmware updated; problem existed before update.  Unplug cable modem and router, plug them back in, modem first, sometimes works, sometimes not.  Using Macs iphones ipad.  Have older and newer Mac OS on different computers.  Tried resetting, going back to factory settings, etc.  Have most recent version of Cisco Connect.  Disconnected it finally then reconnected a day later and works again.  Read various posts and haven't learnt anything.  It's no longer warrantied.  Modem not the issue re internet connection as direct connection to mac is fine.
    HELP!

Since internet works okay straight to the modem (ISP) but not through the router then yeah the router is somehow having some hard times here. Since the router already have the up to date firmware (Ver.1.0.07 (Build 1), I suggest reset the hardware again (press the reset button for 30sec), unplug/re plug the power cord then wait for it to get steady before setting it up manually. Check out these articles to guide you with the configurations; Btw, for the wireless settings, create your own SSID for each wireless band and choose a specific channel not just leaving it on auto.

  • My car stereo works intermittently with iOS 7

Since upgrading to iOS 7 on my iPhone 5, my car stereo now says "USB ERROR" every time I connect my iPhone. To workaround this issue, I have to be playing some music on the iPhone before connecting it to avoid the error message and for the stereo to play music from device.
My car stereo is the Sony CDX-GT560UI. Is this a problem with the car stereo or iOS 7?

  • My MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) trackpad stops working intermittently on Safari.  It works after closing then reopening but stops again.  Curious?

While using Safari or Firefox my trackpad 2-finger scroll stops functioning after working normally.  Trackpad works fine with all other applications.
Seems it might be a setting or software problem.  Any resets needed?

    Howdy mandasaureezy,
If I understand correctly you are unable to successfully boot past this gray sreen when using the built in monitor on your Mac unless you boot to your Boot Camp partition even after resetting your SMC and performing a Safe Boot. I would next use the troubleshooting in the following article to help resolve or isolate the issue here, named:
Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
It's a pretty big article so it can be a bit daunting, but just take it step by step from the top and you should do just fine.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,

  • I have bought a docking station and my iphone works fine but my ipod mini seems to fit on the connection but only works intermittently. Is it a different connection or is there a problem with the ipod?

I have bought a docking station and my iphone works fine but my ipod mini seems to fit on the connection but only works intermittently. Is it a different connection or is there a problem with the ipod?

I think that is happening is that the microphone is on during this recording.  If you play the music through the iPhone speakers, it will record this sound, albeit at very poor quality.  If you say anything (or laugh uproariously as I did while watching the app in action, then that, too, get recorded.
I am still looking for the solution we all want, which is to save the audio in reasonable quality.
Anyone out there with some ideas?
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Magic Trackpad works with one iMac ..not another?

I have both an earlier Intel iMac and a 27", i5 iMac .. the Magic trackpad is a wonder. I love it, but I have lost contact with my 27" ... there seems to be nothing I can do for it to make contact?!   I've done all sorts of fixes, but neither Bluetooth nor the trackpad window in the Sys. Prefs will see it.
I have read references to people saying; "Make it a favorite."  I do not know what that means, nor how to do it.   I was just going to buy another Trackpad, but this works fine with my intel iMac.  As soon as I walk in the other room - I can use it.
I'd appreciate a little advice.  Thanks.
    Jim

    Jim,
The trackpad can be paired with multiple machines but Connected to only one.  When it's connected the other machine will ignore it and even refuse to pair.
If the macs are in seperate rooms at least 33 ft way you can do it by powering off the trackpad (this will disconnect from mac1), walk to the other room and power on. Mac2 should grab it.  If your too close it's possible Mac 1 will grab it again.
    Regards,
    Captfred

  • Free bumper cases wont work with car chargers

Apple sent me a bumper and I tried it with a griffin car charger and it will not plug in as the cutout in the case is not large enough to fit the end of the cord. These have been around for a while and if you want to use them do not order the bumper. I called Apple and they stonewalled and said it was a third party item and they do not guarantee to work with them even though they sell them on their web site. They will not send out a case that works either. Typical I guess as Apple never makes a mistake.

I completely agree with the topic poster.
Let's think and not just knee jerk.
First, why did Jobs introduce the bumper right at the same roll out of the iP4? I mean isn't that odd to talk about cases like some side show pitchman along side a fine, new item like the 4?
Answer- he knew at that time the external antenna was susceptible to issues if held in the lower left corner.  The proof of that is his quote from the press conf. when, in addressing the issue, he said, "look we even show you where it is…x marks the spot." (as he referred to the antenna seam)
So, conclusion, issue was known and anticipated and admitted.
That brings us to the bumper. If they knew the issue and wanted to help ameliorate it, why not build a bumper that not only addresses the antenna but one that also allows maximum access to the charging opening, accommodating most chargers?
    Why risk further customer issues?
Apple is a hi-tech hardware design company with few if any peers.
You're telling me they couldn't figure this out, that they couldn't build in the "Dremeled" more accessible bumper bottom?
    Come on.
They blew it. That's the answer.  They are human and they rushed this "patch" with the supplier and blew it.
And in the middle of a fiasco (that's what the antenna issue became) they further alienate good customers, like the person initiating this topic and countless others no doubt, by not attending to a small yet critical issue with the bumper.
So, poster of this thread, you are right.
Others, yes there are alternatives but as a business owner myself I'd advise Apple not to alienate paying customers.
All that said… the iP4 is marvelous.
Get a case that's made correctly like I did and there is no issue at all with reception. In fact it is VASTLY improved for my usage.
That may not be the same for all and that's why we listen respectfully in this forum.
So we can be helpful.  Right?

  • Why doesn't the "zoom in/out" via pinching the trackpad on my mac not work anymore with firefox? It worked before and still works with Safari.

why doesn't the "zoom in/out" feature by pinching the trackpad on my mac work anymore with firefox? It worked about a month ago, and still works on Safari.

Some gestures have been removed in Firefox 4 and later.
You can restore the zoom feature by changing the values of the related prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    browser.gesture.pinch.in -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReduce</b>
    browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    browser.gesture.pinch.out -> <b>cmd_fullZoomEnlarge</b>
    browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    browser.gesture.pinch.latched -> <b>false</b>
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

Why does the iphone 4 work only intermittently with the Sony HCB150 speakerphone?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue persists, take the device to Apple for further assistance.

I recently got a charging case for my iPhone 5s, but it says it isn't certified and may not work reliably with my iPhone. What can I do to fix it?

Buy one that is certified. Your current case might work without problems, and then might stop working in the future.  iOS 7 is especially "sensitive" to uncertified peripherals. With this iOS release they have started to clamp down on "pirate" peripherals.
