Strange character () in my messages

I recently started sending messages to friends about some upcoming events which required RSVP so I created a LINK through Dreamweaver and then viewed it in the browser...then from the FILE menu - chose "mail contents of this page"
The idea was to mail a link which I later added graphics and "copy" but people remarked that the message was cluttered with these symbols-
Does anyone know what these are caused from?

It's an incompability between mail and some versions of outlook. I found this extremely frustrating when using mail as my business email client. Constantly appearing to be asking questions in your emails to clients can garner some interesting reactions.
You can do a few things.
The easiest is to switch to writing emails in plain text.
Slightly more complicated is to run a short script on the console and hope that works (it didn't for me)
And finally - after much mucking about - the best solution I've found for this problem is here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121814&tstart=75

    Hello,
Indeed but native Mail app is configured automatically when setting Mail in iCloud settings. At the end, iCloud account has a specific icon in Mail app.
Try what I described and you'll see that this iCloud account is transformed into a standard IMAP account.

Had the same problem, could not get it to be consistent. I would say this is a bug, but decided to edit payloads via the database in the end...

You need to setup different Receive At addresses for iMessage.
If you don't want the same pics on each, turn off PhotoStream.

  • Strange character at the end of some file/folder names

I'm getting a strange character at the end of some of my file and folder names. This is it:  When I enlarge it, it says "private use" on the top and bottom, "E000" on the left side, and "F8FF" on the right side. It acts like a character within the font, but I'm not sure why it's there.
In case that didn't work, I'm going to try to attach or embed a gif of the character. I'm not sure if it will work or not.
Also, some longer file names seem to be dleeting some of the letters and are inserting a pound sign and a few numbers (e.g. #34) in place of the letters.
    What's going on?
    As usual, thanks in advance,
    Lloyd

I thought that might be it...at first. Then I found some file names that were nowhere near 32 characters long whose names were truncated.
It's not a huge problem, except in QuarkXPress when I collect the files for output and I have to reconnect to the ones whose names have been changed (to protect the innocent, I suppose).
    Thanks for the input mark.

  • Strange Character in Essbase Report

I generated an Essbase report using report script. I have suppressed colum heading, page heading, zero rows and missing rows. In the generated report there is a strange character at the beginning of every 65th row (). When opened in notepad it looks like the biology female symbol. I am guessing this is some kind of a page break character. It shows up in any application I use to open the .rpt file.Is there any way to supress this character?
I will be sending the resulting report to SAP. Will this character effect the way SAP will read member names in that row?

Never mind. Foud out that SUPFEED works fine. The question about page break character affecting SAP is still open though.

  • Strange character in facebook in Chrome. After messing with Helevetica neue

    Hi everyone,
I have this strange character in facebook in chrome.
First of all, before this problem arise, I was messing around with helvetica neue font to display properly in google chrome, and also I deleted many international fonts using monolingual program.
What is seems the problem? How do I get it back to normal.
    thanks.

    alimx wrote:

Those are characters from Apple's Last Resort Font.  It indicates you have deleted stuff you should have left there.  I recommend you not use Monolingual and similar apps.  The risk of serious damage to your OS is not worth any possible benefit.

Well - with that problem description it's impossible to help you.
    What release are you running?
How did you import the language?
What are those "strange charaters" you seee?

  • Strange Character Showing on my PowerPC G4

    Hello!
After a re-start of my laptop, I discovered that all the fonts from option menu had been replaced by a lot of 'A', and such strange character is consisted of a capital 'A' within a square/box, it looks exactly like the letter 'A' fall out from a keyboard.
    Please help and thanks!
    George

Hi hardhousedj, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    It's a damaged system font...
Your problem has been reported several times and seems to represent breakdown in the OS's ability to use the basic system fonts. The A is a symbol from Apple's Last Resort font indicating that the desired character is not present on the system. The only know cure as far as I know is a reinstall of the OS.
    First, "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

  • Character Count in Message app too pale, I can't see it. Can I make it bigger & black instead of grey

Character Count in Message app too small and pale, I can't see it.
(My eyes, like the rest of me, are over 50)
I have used Settings - Accessibility  to increase font size which is wonderful so now I can read what I'm typing,  but still cant see the character count.
Can I make the charater count use a bigger font?
Can I have it black instead of grey?
ANd can I change the whilte-on-green for sent messages into well constrasted colours (like the old iPhone 3G?) so I can read them too?

Thank you Malcolm, that was a good idea ... it seems to have improved the text in the messages I;ve received and a slight improvement in the white-on-green of the snet messages.
Sadly did not affect the character count.
I fear it begins to look as if the character count has been overlooked by the designers at Apple and is left "outside" the range of things affected by the accessibility options. What do you think?

  • IOS 7 iMessage won't let me enter ? Or ! As first character of a message.

why can't iMessage in iOS 7 easily enter a ? or a ! Punctuation as the very first character in a message or very first character after a period and space (ie start of a sentence)? It is so annoying!  SHIFT period  or  SHIFT comma  won't create a ? Or a ! Respectively.  Why did Apple change this iMessage's functionality? This wasn't an issue in iOS 6 .
And does anyone know how to submit a software bug report to Apple concerning their consumer software?

  • Issue while parsing the chinese character from Mime Message

    Hi,
I have a issue with the chinese characters while parsing the mime message (MimeBodypart). In the MimeMessage charset is mentioned as "gb2312". i am using the MimeBodyPart.getContent() to get the content. When mimetype is html, it will be uploaded as a file to an FTP site (wapache commons net - ftp client). When uploaded file is viewed, the content is displayed as garbage text.
i tried the following but it didnt work. i got the inputstream from the Mimebodypart. and then created InputStreamReader and used the encoding "GB18030" while initializing the content. i got the String out of it and stored in the file. i just replaced "Gb2312" with "UTF-8" in the html string. While creating the output file, i used the UTF-8 encoding. when opened this file using IE, it is displaying the character without any issues. i examined the file and the file encoding is UTF-8 as expected.
but when i upload the file to FTP site and view, the text is not displayed correctly. It seems the file encodig is ANSI. i used the Notepad++ to examine these files. Please note that we use apache comments net - FTp client to upload the file.
    below are my questions:
am i doing the right thing? it seems mime message was created using outlook.
How to upload a file to FTp withe file base encoding is "UTF-8" or some other ?
    below are few references
    http://www.anyang-window.com.cn/tag/java-gb2312/
    JavaMail: Chinese Simplified Character Problem

Thank you for the Replies. i am using the binary mode and it works fine for most of the files. i found that the issue here is not while uploading but the content itself. the characters present in the Mimemessge is not as per the charset. Hence i could not upload the content as it is. This happens only when charset is GB2312 (chinese). it seems that Mimemessage contains the characters which cannot be represented by Gb2312 but can be represented by Gb18030. Hence i converted the content using from Gb18030 to UTF-8 and created a file. i used the SetControlEncoding("utf-8") to upload the file and it is working fine.

  • New-line character in stacked message pop-up

I have run into a brick wall with this situation--
Our clients are running Client/Server Forms 6i, and Web Forms 6i using Patch 10. They are about to upgrade web forms to the latest version 9.0.4.1.0 (10g).
We have a few PLL routines that use the stacked message method:    Message('text here'); Message('  ',no_acknowledge);to display important error messages to the user. It is especially useful to display the multiple ORA- errors when an unexpected server error occurs.
Throughout all versions of Client/Server forms, and even in our old version of Web forms, I can use chr(10) or another character to start each error message on a new line.
Somewhere after Patch 10, Oracle has removed that capability. Instead, pop-up stacked messages word-wrap into a multi-line message, and display the new-line character as a box indicating an unprintable character. Our nicely formatted messages are a mess!
I have been told I should use an alert, which supports chr(10) as the new line. However, this is a PLL routine, and I would have to create an alert in hundreds of forms just to accommodate this short-sightedness. The changes and subsequent testing and release issues make this an unworkable solution.
I am clueless as to why this feature would be removed. Oracle support is treating it as an enhancement request. Any ideas?

    Steve,
If you really have hundreeds of forms ... create one more - to display your messages. Make it modal and nice looking. Call it through the library. Design it to work both as [OK] message and as an users responce [Yes]/[No]/[Cancel].
And honestly - I don't think message(); message() is the best way to display messages. Whoever designed the application should've think about alerts with standartized naming convention, so they can be handled easily through the PLL.

  • Acrobat 7 Standard making strange character substitutions

Yes, we're still using Acrobat 7.
Acrobat has always been unable to handle some fonts (particularly decorative fonts such as cursive fonts) but until recently it has handled most common fonts reasonably well.
Today I created a document in MS Word and created a pdf file from it by using the "Adobe PDF" printer driver selection -- as usual.
And, of course, Acrobat created the PDF file, as it always has....
BUT today Acrobat is changing some of the characters within one font.
Acrobat is changing ordinary zero characters to a slashed zero character (which doesn't even exist in this font)
Acrobat is changing ordinary apostrophe characters into some strange large capital O with a tilde over it. Interestingly enough, Acrobat is inserting this enormous character but only leaving the amount of space normally occupied by the regular apostrophe, so that the s after the apostrophe is coming out inside the middle of the O character.
And Acrobat is changing the degree symbol character to a 1/4 fraction character.
Interestingly enough Acrobat makes these substitutions only in one specific font within the document. Parts of the text that are in a different font or even in the same font but in BOLD are not having the problem.
The font where Acrobat makes these strange substitutions is Windows' own Arial font -- specifically 11 point Arial regular -- it doesn't make these strange substitutions in text written in 11 point Arial Bold or in Times New Roman

This is an issue with fonts not being embedded in a PDF and with 4 fonts that are listed by Acrobat. I have the link to the knowledge base on another computer, but you can search for it. The solution is to remove 4 fonts as I recall. Then the font substitution works correctly. The problem is finding the problem fonts in the knowledge base.
