Strange characters cannot read folder options and descriptions

Hi, have been running iTunes on desktop for ages with no probs. Have bought new HP 510 laptop still running XP but from day 1 have had little squares in all the drop down menus and main screens. Can see all song descriptions etc fine but prob seems to be with the iTunes software. Has anyone else ever come across this? Going away soon so it is important to be able to read screens.

You probably have your language set incorrectly
Go to: Edit>Preferences>General
Edit - 2nd from left
Preferences- bottom
General - Leftmost tab
Language - at the bottom
English is the 5th down for me.
Close iTunes and reopen for change to take effect

hello, it sounds like the library is damaged.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I have a issue major issue while running Pages from Jdeveloper. The pages are erroring out.

Error: cannot read: C:\Documents; and Settings\JR\Desktop\logrand.java

Thats the problem.
Bug started happening all the sudden.
Double click a java file on the desktop that just two second before was built fine. Go to build it and it says that.
"error: cannot read: C:\Documents; and Settings\JR\Desktop\logrand.java"
Now note this is a file in the IDE.
copy/paste/change file name/brand new file/turn off the computer. Everything on the desktop path says that same error message. Then i noted the semicolon in the middle of the path after documents. The compilier has misspelled the path name. Its open the file in the IDE but somehow the build step gets a path with a semicolon in the middle.
What do i do?

Firefox 4.01 downloads files but the downloads windows greys out the "Open" and "Open containing folder" options and I can't trace the files

Three days ago I upgraded to Firefox 4.01. I downloaded several files that were ok. Yesterday and today I downloaded one powerpoint file and a an apple *.dmg file.
On the Download window these two files I can see with the total mb in size. However when I right click the file list in the Download window the "Open" and "Open containing folder" options are greyed out. What is more I cannot find these files anywhere on my computer when I use Windows Explorer to search.
It seems that this happened after I tried to download a Firefox add on from http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/addons/64761/amazonassist-0.7.2.6-fx.xpi and my antivirus picked up the JS/Kryptik.AK trojan and terminated the connection. Is there a link with the problem I am experiencing?

I have an itunes gift card for $25 and I accidentally scratched it off too hard and i cannot read the numbers and letters

It says to scratch off the gray part on the back with a nickel, so I did. When I was scratching it off, I must of scratched too hard because I cannot read the first 5 letters and numbers...any suggestions?? Please HELP!

Strange characters displaying in FR pdf and excel export

We are using Financial Reporting on a Planning application. We have a dimension, projects, whose aliases display on the report. Now the strange part. On some projects, not all, during some report runs, but not all, some, but not all, of the spaces in the alias are translated into a question mark in the pdf, and then when the pdf is exported to excel, the question marks are translated into black diamonds with a question mark inside.
We’ve seen it happen on a handful of projects. These are from the same report, first one from report ran Monday, second one from report ran yesterday.

Ok, the diamonds won't paste into this message. But you can see the little squares in the second line - those are the diamonds with question marks inside.
Has anyone seen this behavior before? Or know what to do about it?

I've seen similar items with 2 causes:
1. When creating the alias names, the DBAs copied from emails and pasted the names in, which caused the formatting issues. Solution, get them to remove the existing alias and retype manually.
I think this is probably your problem too.
2. Font substitution: The other time was due to differing fonts installed on the developer, print server and BI server machines, causing some incorrect items to be displayed - check that the fonts are the same on all servers/instances.

The following is what I am trying to do. I have already done Items 4 and 5.
I really appreciate if you can help me to find out the examples or documents that can achieve the functionality specified in 1,2 and 3.
1.     We are scanning and storing the images (.tif) in our server (application server or some other network location)
2.     When user logins in, I would like to show the list of all the images that are available in the specified location.
3.     User should be able to select the desired image and should be able to view the image.
4.     User will assign unique identification to each image and save the image to the database.
5.     User should be able to review the saved image at any time.

Do you need help with 1, seems like this is outside of Oracle entirely.
Assuming you figure out number 1 you have probably two options for 2 and 3. One is to embed a java file picker object like the one they use in the facebook photo albums application.

Another option is to make the directory used in 1 available to the database as a directory object. Then you can use the techniques presented here to display the file names.

You could allow the user to pick the file and then load it from file use the DBMS_LOB.LOADFROMFILE procedure to get it into the database as a blob. This could bypass your need for number 4. In fact you could just load the files into BLOBS at will for the user and never really store them in the database.
Hope this gives you a little direction. I think the main issue here is access to those files, the direction you take depends on if it is something the user will need to do through the OS or the database will need to do through a directory object.

Fonts displaying in strange characters in Email and Web Browser

Myself and my creative director (on two different computers) are seeing strange characters in our email clients and web browser. He uses Entourage for Email and I use Thunderbird. We both use Firefox for a web browser.
This does not happen with every email or with every web page, what could it be?

Clear out the font cache files from the hard drive with Font Finagler. Also, if you have the fonts Helvetica Fractions or Times Phonetic on the drive, delete them.

Strange Characters in Mail and Safari

Hello,
Just got my mini home and have noticed strange characters appearing in both Mail and Safari.
It seems to be a font problem, but changing the fonts in mail and safarui prefs doesn't seem to fix it.
Specifically: The apple start page rss stories display a weird font, so do the mail headers in mac mail.
Yes, I did a search of the forum and the only things I seem to be coming up with are font issues related to outlook receiving mail on a pc.
Any suggestions?

Without seeing what you mean by "strange characters" it is hard to tell, but the most common cause of gibberish text is the font Helvetica Fractions or Times Phonetic. Dump them if you have them. Also clean your font caches with FontFinagler (use google to find it).

HT3775 I have a video file that is under quick play .mov and my macbook is telling me that it cannot read the file?

I am trying to record something on my desktop and I recorded it with an application called iscreen recorder lite. I downloaded it off of the application store thinking it would save under a file my computer would recognize. When I tried to play the recording back again, my computer tells me it cannot read the file and I should see if the formatting is right. I checked and the file is under .mov which should be supported by mac. Please help!

Strange characters instead of PDF-file

when I forward to a servlet called Test.java, my browser return a PDF file.

ok,
I removed the html tags in the jsp-file and now acrobat reader does start.
but it says the pdf file is damaged and cannot be repaired ...
any ideas?
