Strange characters in WEBI report

Hi,
When I run a WEBI report, i see strange characters in the cells. Pls refer to attached screen shot. The output is sometimes displaying correctly and sometimes not.
I run the query generated by WEBI at the backend, I get the correct results.
I tried to create a separate report with some of the columns. Even then I get these strange characters.
Please let me know if you have anything solution on this.
I use
BOXI R3.1 SP5
Cheers
Shreyas

Hi Shreyas,
I was interested to see the database output so that I can see what values are coming to report.
Does the report contain some accentuated characters like Ö,É,ć etc. or some other characters.
As the issue is not coming with Deski and WRC then it could be an issue with the application server.
Which application do you use? IIS or Tomcat or some other server?
Sometimes, the application servers do not support UTF-8 encoding. In case of Tomcat, you can check the server.xml file. You can check knowledge base article on SAP portal.
Also check if the desired font is added in fontalias.xml.

Yuvraj

  • Strange issues in WebI report on standard Universe on top of BW Query

    Hello,
We have a BW query with a standard Universe on top of it (generated automatically via the connection in universe designer).
However, very strange things happen when playing with the data in WebI.
There are some characteristics and just one key figure (which is just 'number of records').
    - key figures just disappear when adding characteristics
    - the wrong assignment is made from the infoobject to a dimension in webi when combining several characteristics in the WebI report (for example the 'customer' field holds the 'date' and the 'date' field is empty.
I think it has something to do with BO that starts from the text of an infoobject instead of from the key.
Also I constantly have to refresh the data when adding fields to the report.
Did anybody have similar issues? How did you solve them?
I also tried 'restructuring' the universe by deleting everything that's less relevant for the report, and taking the longest available text as dimension with key of the info object as detail and this seemed to work a lot better. However we shouldn't have to restructure a universe that's generated from a query?
    Thanks,
    Tom

We had a the same thing.  Assuming it is the same cause, it is a known issue.  SAP had us install two Notes on BW and the problem disappeared..  Evidently it has to do with an MDX generation problem.  See response below and do some investigation.
    This is a known issue.
Here are the notes that fix this issue. The second note has two composite notes in it that will need to be applied as well if they still have problems after they install the first two.
There are some items that are broken in SP6. You'll notice that SAP note 1404328 is already in SP6. You'll still need to install it again along with the second SAP note 1420169
Please install both of these and try your work flow again. If it's still not working, then you'll need to go through the composite notes in the second SAP note 1420169.

  • Displaying UMLAUT characters in WEBI report - Need Confirmation in Settings

    Hi,
I am using BOXI-R2 in Windows machine. I have done the below settings in BO configuration files.
My WEBI report shows no data to display when there are UMLAUT German characters (for example) in the data. Japanese and English characters are displayed in the report properly.
    Settings:
    1. Arial Unicode Font installed.
    2. fontalias.xml - Default section font is Arial Unicode
    3. i18n.xml - Arial Unicode MS entry available
    4. defaultconfig.xml - <CUSTOM_GUI_FONTS VALUE="Arial Unicode MS"/>
    5. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE - NLS_LANG = AMERICAN_AMERICA. AL32UTF8
    6. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE/HOME0  - NLS_LANG = AMERICAN_AMERICA. AL32UTF8
    7. cs.cfg - <Parameter Name="Unicode">UTF8</Parameters>.
    8. oracle.sbo - <Parameter Name="Unicode">UTF8</Parameter>
    9. sybase.sbo - <Parameter Name="Unicode">UTF8</Parameter>
    10. odbc.sbo - <Parameter Name="Unicode">UTF8</Parameter>  in default section
My WEBI report is using generic odbc connectivity to sybase. After some changes to the above settings report displays UMLAUTS properly with the below change.
    odbc.sbo - <Parameter Name="Unicode">CharSet</Parameter>  in generic odbc section
Please let me know whether this is the correct change to be done for this issue. Also what is the reason UMLAUTS are not getting displayed when i use UTF8.

    Hi Ven,
You have created a report level prompt like
Transaction Date Between "Enter Tran Date(Start):" and "Enter Tran Date(End):"
1.Drag two blank cell on report.
2.click on one blank cell and on formula editor type following formula.
    =UserResponse("Enter Tran Date(Start):" )
This will show you start date in the cell.
3.Similarly in another cell type the following formula
    =UserResponse("Enter Tran Date(End):" )
This will show you End Date in respective cell.
Do revert in case of any queries.
    Thanks,

  • Strange issue in Webi Reports

    Hi,
I have a Webi Report created on SAP BW Hierarchy Query -- BW 7.01 SP05 and this report is working fine.
Then i have imported this report to another BO system having the same version BOE XI 3.1 SP1. But after import the Webi report
is not working when we refresh in new system and getting the following error:
"A database error occurred. The database error test is: An error has occurred. No further information AVAILABLE basis. (Wis 10901)"
I have recreated the same report in new BO system but the error is same. I have implemented the Notes 1441767,1432162, and 1438091 in BW system to solve the issue but no use.
Can any one help me how to solve this issue?
    Best Regards
    Raju.k

    Hi Ingo,
Thanks for the reply. For both the reports the underlying BW system is same.
I found out a Note "1420169" which helped me to solve this issue. The values in the collumns are behaving differently each time.
one time it will give wrong values some times it will not fill with values etc..
Finaly after aplying the above note issue got solved.

  • Unknown characters in Webi Report

    Hi,
We integrated BO with our product.
    Configuration: Server:  Win 2003 Std
                           Client:  Win XP SP3
                           Browser: Firefox 3.6.3
I logged in to BO InfoView and set Portuguese language as Product Locale. I generated a new webi but "Report Title" in the report is having some unknown characters in Portuguese language. I think the unicode characters did not map with correct characters in Portuguese. What could be the reason for this ? How can I eliminate these characters ?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Vasu

Please keep in mind that FIrefox 3.6 is not yet supported. It would be better if you can switch to a supported browser version.
Look at the supported platofroms documentation

  • A strange problem of web report

When I browse a report on the webpage, I find once I click a field of the report, the browser will be frozen, I have to close the browser window since it has no response.
I also find it will appear if the report has many fields(ie, the number of columns >6).
    why? I'm confused.

Is it a HTML report, a JSP report, or a PDF report? If it's a PDF report, it's more likely to be a problem of Acrobat plug-in. In that case, you may want to reinstall/update your plugin and try again.

  • Strange characters on report from field overrun

We have a report, created with Cystal Reports 10, that is now giving us an issue. It is displayed via web browser.
When displayed using Crystal Enterprise 10, it looks fine. But when displayed with CR XI r2 JRC, we get strange characters after the field when the field on the report is overrun. The field on the report is not formatted wide enough for all data but this has not been an issue in the past, the overrun just displayed fine.
The display we are getting looks like:
    For short data we get:
    *TEST
For longer data (overrun) we get:
    *TEST1瀲瀀猀
    That should have displayed *TEST12.
I think I can get around this by formatting the field wider (I have not tried it yet) but we wanted to know if this was a known issue with a root cause / fix.

    - The report is only generated and viewed via the web browser. A web screen takes criteria for the report data, does an SQL call to pull the data into a report table, and then calls the CR report viewer to display the data.
    - JRC is the java Runtime Component. In CR XI, a package is supplied to install as part of the web server for doing the web report viewing withut having to install CR Enterprise.
    - The original .rpt file, the report template, does not have the characters in it nor do they show up in Crystal Reports in any way that I have found to try to test.
    - With using the JRC, there is no CE10 database. As noted above, CR Enterprise is not installed. As for the database that contains the report data table, it is MS SQL Server 200 with all appropriate patches applied.
I just tested extending the display field to well longer than the data but it did not help. The strange characters are still being displayed.

  • BW Hierarchy in WebI report: strange behaviour

    Hi experts,
I faced with an (apparently) strange WebI behaviour.
I'm working with SAP BW 7.0 and BO XI 3.1 SP 2.
I have a universe built on a BEx query and the BEx query is built on a multiprovider (with 2 infoCubes inside).
The universe maps a BW hierarchy (ex. H) along with other object (ex. A and B).
In WebI report all works fine if I got only hierarchy levels (in drill mode) and a measure.
Adding the A characteristic, A values seems to be mapped in the hierarchy characteristic while A values are empty.
Adding the B characteristic, both B and H are empty.
Removing hierarchy objects from the report, A and measure works fine.
    B and measure works fine.
    BEx query works fine.
Does anyone has ever faced with this kind of problem?
    Any help would be appreciated
    thanks in advance
    marco

    Hi,
There is a mechanism called "flattening" which transposes OLAP DataSet into an XML stream 'rowset' - this is part of the MDX interface of BW, and is most problematic.
the ultimate proof is to enable the MDA.log , capture the MDX SELECT statement, and Executing it in transaction MDXTEST in BW. There are 3 execution modes: multidim, flattening, xml -  there has to be exact parity in the ouput between the 3 modes, otherwise you have a problem
You'll probably find that the query syntax Runs correctly, but perhaps the data problem is also seen in the BW back-end ?
Please check SAP Note 1446246 - MDX: Composite SAP Note for flattening API based on basXML
and ensure that you have the Related Corrections implemented

  • Strange issue with WEBI schedule Report

    Hi All,
I have a strange issue with schedule WEBI reports, a schedule report runs for Hours , i reschedule it again by deleting the instance and the schedule report never got succeed even after running for hours.
    Any idea???
    regards

    Hi Manoj,
    1. Try to put some filters in the report and then run the report. if it takes less time, then probably your query is fetching very    large data.
    2. MDX query error may be the reason , this error come when a query runs endless, please try running the query 2-3 times, or when load on server is less.
    Hope this will help,
    Anamika.

  • Special Characters in charts with web reports

Hello, we are facing a problem to display special characters in charts on web reports (it comes out badly).
The only sap note found about this problem is note n°1036745, but it is for NW 2004s, but should be solved in NW04s BIJava SP 12, and we are currently with SP 15.
Has anyone faced this problem with BI 7.0?
    Thanks,
    Philippe

    hi Philippe
I did not faced this issue. Nevertheless there is another note dealing with the issue. Note 1088411.
Take into account that your basis should synchronise the level of BI JAVA SP the famous Java Stacks and BI SP (ABAP support package).
You say that you are SP 15 I guess it is ABAP SP as SPS for 15 is not already shipped,
if this is not the case please ask your basis to check tihs note 1013369.
    Hope this could help you
    regards

  • Fonts displaying in strange characters in Email and Web Browser

Myself and my creative director (on two different computers) are seeing strange characters in our email clients and web browser. He uses Entourage for Email and I use Thunderbird. We both use Firefox for a web browser.
This does not happen with every email or with every web page, what could it be?
    View a screenshot here:
    ftp://www.hanlonftp.com/upload/fontProblem.jpg

Clear out the font cache files from the hard drive with Font Finagler. Also, if you have the fonts Helvetica Fractions or Times Phonetic on the drive, delete them.

  • Report previews and prints with strange characters

I have a custom XI application which uses CCrystalReportViewer11 (C++ wrapper around ActiveX control) to preview reports. This works for hundreds of installations, but for one the text is displayed and printed with strange characters. If the customer exports the report the characters are displayed as normal. What could be wrong?

More than likely, it's a printer driver issue. It may even be that there is no default printer driver installed. Also, see if setting a different default printer driver helps. You can also set the "No Printer" option in the report by opening it in the designer and going to the File menu and selecting "Page Setup".

  • Webi report gives old data in infoview on refresh

    Hi Experts,
We are facing this strange issue on a webi report after some data updation in the SAP BW infocube.
The webi report is based on the universe which is connected to an infocube in our BW dev system. After some data updation in the cube, we had tested the report in webi rich client and everything was working fine (the newly updated data from cube was reflecting). Now, we had tested the same report in infoview, but it was showing the old data only. We had tried exporting the report once again to infoview, refreshed universe structure; but without any success.
What appeared to be even more strange was that the last refresh time was also not changing. While running the report in the infoview it hardly takes 40secs. But on refreshing it says the last refresh time was 5mins.
Any help on this would be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Arun.

it sounds like when you refresh report in Infoview you get the cached data, it never goes to the DB to fetch new one...
You'll need to enable traces on webi processing server as well as SOFA/MDX tracing and review log files to see if requests are going to db or not and what is being returned.
It could be at webi proc level or at your BW level.
You can also try disabling webi caching in webi proc server properties and see what happens.

  • WebI report in Rich Client refreshing - But not in the webbased WebI client

    Dear experts,
I am quite new to BO and I am currently facing the following problem regarding our WebI reports:
I created a WebI report in the WebI Rich Client. This report accesses an OLAP universe, which in turn gets data from a SAP BW through a BI query. I also exported the report to the CMS. In InfoView, it is displayed correctly as well. The report displays the data alright.
Now here comes the strange part of it: When refreshing the report from within the WebI Rich Client, the data is being updated (the current BW data is being shown) as it is supposed to. BUT when refreshing the report from within the WebI Java client (in InfoView), the report would not update, i.e. it would not display the current BW data but instead the old data. When scheduling instance creation the instances would also not display the current data.
We are am running BO XI 3.1, no FixPacks.
Does anybody have a clue why this is happening?
    Any hint would be appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance!
    Best,
    Kai

    Hi Ingo,
    Many thanks for your reply!
The report would not refresh after I hit "Refresh data" ("Daten regenerieren" in German). Plus the newly created instances (one instance is being created every 5 mins) would also not show the current data.
The funny thing is that as soon as I go back to the Rich Client and hit "Refresh data" in the Rich Client, the report would always show the current data, never the old ones.
We should probably continue discussing in just one thread (Scheduled WebI report instances with differing values), this issue seems to be interrelated somehow anyway. Sorry for opening up multiple threads.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Kai

  • BO BI 4.0: WebI report based on BEx query (OLE DB enabled)

    Hi Experts
We are trying to create WEBI reports based on BEx queries, but we are experiencing some issues. We have created two BEx queries og two separate multiproviders and opened them for external use but checking the OLE DB enable checkbox. In WebI we are now only able to use on of the queries as a data source (even though both are OLE DB enabled).
Are there any limitations to which multiproviders that can be used to create BEx queries for WebI reports?
We are using BO BI 4.0 and BW 7.0 SP 5.
    Kind regards
    Erik

    Hi again Henry
We use BW 7.01 Support package 5 (we know it should have been at least 6), SAP GUI 7.20 patch 9, BEx 7.2 patch 6 and BO 4.0 patch 11.
The BW user that is synchronized to BO has almost all rights (almost sap_all). When we log on to BEx directly with the same user we use in BO, we are able to run both BEx queries without any problems. When we then log on to BO (with the same user), we are only able to use on of the queries in WebI.
As you say, we have to following setup:
    -     BO users are synchronized from our BW system and when they log on to BO they use the SAP authentication.
    -     The user that is synchronized from BW has been added to the Administrator group in BO
    -     The OLAP connection is set to SSO so that the authorization in the BW system is used.
It is really strange that we are not able to use on of our multi providers in BW in WebI. As you say, we just need to try debugging with changing the authorization concept, changing the OLAP connection setup and so on to see if that helpsu2026
    Kind regards
    Erik
