Strange Comments

When looking at information for songs, I will sometimes see this sort of thing "0001448 00001525 00003D9E 00004E50 0002E647 000222F7 00008000 00008000 0000C350 000222F7" as an example in the comments box. What's this all about?

I have been having these problems as well for some time - very annoying as I use the comments field like many others to store keywords to help set up smart playlists, and this info is deleted by the hex codes.
After reading other posts on the subject, and my own research I have the following workaround.
After importing a CD, check which version ID3 tag has been used by right clicking on a track and Get Info.
I am using iTunes v.7.1.1.5 and when importing, I have noticed that sometimes, ID3 ver.2.2 is used, but on other occasions ver.2.3 is used which causes the problem.
If a file is using ID3 ver.2.3, you can change it to 2.2 by highlighting, then under the Advanced menu, click Convert ID Tags, then select the version you want (2.2) and OK.
This is a real pain (I have just gone through over 1000 tracks!) Let's hope Apple sort it out sooner rather than later!
Hope this workaround helps.

  • Album Art + Strange Comment

    I've been having a problem with itunes the past few days and wondered if anyone could help. I have Windows Vista and Itunes 8. My album art has been rapidly dissapearing and instead I get strange comments in the comment box somewhere along the line of: 00050250 0002560000 02000000. And if add the album art on a song, these comments appear as well. It seems when I change a song it screws the comments up. This has just happened the past few days.
    I have NO clue what is going on, and wondered if anyone could help. Thanks!

    There are about 10 other threads on this here on discussions. Nobody has ever gotten a definite answer what caused it.
    Most of my artwork was still OK, because I converted all my tracks to use ID3 v2.3 tags.
    I was able to reproduce the problem you mention by checking Sound Check in the preferences. And fix it by unchecking.
    When I unchecked and started fresh, the comments problem went away (on iTunes 8.0.0.35). I have detailed steps if anybody is interested.
    As I was having so much fun with the comment problem, a worse one surfaced right after. *iTunes does not seem to write to the proper ID3v2 COMM field anymore!* Can anybody try the following:
    1) Type a comment in a file via iTunes Get Info dialog
    2) Open file in WinAmp, or other media player, or in XP/Vista look at the file properties.
    Is the comment there ?
    *In my case my previous/existin comment that was on the file is still there, NOT the one written by iTunes. This was not like that. What changed ?!?*

  • Strange Comments issue I may have caused, any suggestions?

    Hello, I may have caused a problem on my iWeb blog and hope that someone can offer suggestions.
    What I did was this - my blog page name was Weblog. I changed it to Blog while making other changes to my website. I then published changes. However, when I saw that my changes were still showing in red (website was not updated), I published all and everything went to blue. My site was updated.
    Problem - after doing the above, I noticed that all my entries on the website said "No Comments", even on entries that I know have comments. I went into iWeb and it says the same thing, but when I read the blog entry, the comments are there with the correct count. So I can see the comments in iWeb, but not on the website. Both iWeb and the website show "No Comments" in the blog page and in each entry.
    I later read the Apple troubleshooting note (via a link in this forum) that because the comments are stored on their server, we should not change the folder name. However, I did not change the folder name, did I? Is that the same as changing the page name in iWeb?
    Anyway, I first tested my site by posting a comment in a new entry and it works. However, if I add a comment to an entry that had previous comments, the old comments go away and only the new comment shows. So, I deleted the new comments and quit iWeb without saving. This got me back to where the old comments were still there.
    I decided to change the page name back to Weblog and I republished the entire site, but that did not work. All the entries and blog page still say "No Comments" in both iWeb and on my site, even though the comments can be seen in iWeb.
    If anyone has any suggestions for getting the website to show the counts, and for the website to show the counts and the comments, I would appreciate it. It was always working well before, I shouldn't have changed the page name, and then change it back, but I didn't think that would do any harm.
    BTW, this was my first use and publishing on iWeb since updating to OS 10.5.7 late last week, so not sure if that had anything to do with it. I am also on a new iMac after migrating yesterday, hope that doesn't add to the issue.
    Thanks in advance for your help. I have always been able to resolve issues with help from the users here, but I fear that I may have caused a doozy.

  • I"stuff" won't open after leopard installation

    A Tale of Taxes and Computers
    My wife and I purchased our first computer in 1984. It was a Mac, no hard drive, just a floppy drive so we also got an extra external floppy drive. BIG TIME!
    In 1991 we began using MacinTax (Turbo Tax) which saved much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth around the house.
    We loved both so much that we have upgraded our Macs several times (we are now a three Mac family) and signed up for automatic renewal for Turbo Tax.
    Which brings me to December of 2007.
    I received my Turbo Tax in the mail and promptly popped it into my G5 to begin the taxes. Install, restart. But wait, the Turbo Tax icon just sits there and bounces, it won’t open! Reinstall, try again, same thing. I’ve never had this problem, what’s going on?
    I eventually end up in Turbo Taxes’ FAQ forum to find out that my G5, running system 10.3, won’t open the program. I need system 10.4 or better. The only thing better is 10.5 and it’s just been released.
    What to do?
    Well, I have a G5 running 10.3 (the computer I do our taxes on) and two laptops running 10.4. I may as well upgrade them all to 10.5 Leopard, I can get a family pack for only $199.00.
    One week and $200.00 later, Leopard shows up at my door. Good, now maybe I can get back to doing the taxes!
    Load, install, wait, blue screen, blue screen, more blue screen. Retry, reinstall, wait, blue screen, blue screen, still more blue screen. Call Tech support, how much Ram do I have? 256. That’s the problem, I need at least 512!
    What to do?
    I need memory chips (plural), my wife’s laptop doesn’t have enough Ram either.
    $130.00 and one week later, I’m ready to try again. Wait, the G5 won’t read the chip. Try a different slot, won’t read. Try a new slot, won’t read. What’s going on! I must admit, at this point I broke “The Man Law” and got the G5 manual out and read it.
    “Memory chips must be installed in pairs”
    What to do?
    Another $80.00 and another week later I got another chip for the G5!
    Install both chips, install system 10.5, open TurboTax, IT WORKS!
    But wait, with 10.5 Leopard there’s more!
    Everything I had that operated in the Mac “Classic Environment” will no longer operate. It’s all gone! And while the third party software programs from 10.3 still work, the Apple programs do not! Does that make sense? I had recently started using iphoto, but it will not open anymore. Neither will any of the “i” applications in my G5. I guess now Apple expects me to spend another $80.00 for iLife 08 just so the applications that I already had will work with their new OS!
    Congratulations Apple! You have made a giant leap to close the gap between Macs and PCs

    A long saga with a moral: Look before you leap"
    Everyone knows Leopard does not support Classic.
    Everyone knows that many apps are not supported under Leopard.
    I would never upgrade anything without first doing a complete investigation into the pros and cons.
    It's called due diligence.
    Your rather strange comment to Mac about closing a gap goes unheard by Apple. This board is used by people who only are here to help others, and rants etc, rarely help anyone.
    Your epic is unique in the annals of history in detail; but rather passe and blase in broader strokes.
    I have had no such problems with Leopard on any of my three Macs and I do not expect I ever will. I pay attention to details and never move forward without knowing where I am going.
    Since this board is for problem solving and you have not expressed a need for a solution to anything, I do not really understand the nature of your desultory philippic.

  • Create Playlists by file name attribute

    Hi,
    Somehow I have around 5000 songs that got duplicated.
    The duplicate files were named like this
    <filename>1.mp3
    So I would like to find just those *1.mp3 files from a playlist of duplicates that I created with one of "Doug's iTunes Scripts" called "Corral Itunes Dupes"
    And the kicker is that each duplicate song has the same 'date added' date+time as the original, so although I can find duplicates, I dont know which one to delete.
    Is there anyway to use the filename attribute in itunes to filter my current "Dupes" playlist in order to search for files ending in 1.mp3????
    Thanks,
    Bill Hart
    mac mini intel   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    OK,
    I think I have found the answer to my question, but it wasn't as clean as I would have liked. Beavis gave me some ideas, but ultimately I wanted to have iTunes do the deleting for me so that the database and filesystem was in sync the entire time. Due to the magnitude of the files involved I needed a batch system, the following did the trick with one caveat.
    1) First, run Doug's Scripts "Coral iTunes Dupes" http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=corralitunesdupes
    2) Next run Doug's Scripts "Sundry Info to Comments" http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=sundryinfotocomments
    This step is required. If there is a better way to do this please post it. What you want to do is attach the filename to the the commment section of each database record.
    Why? Because iTunes does not allow you to create smart playlists based off that information. For me, this information was necessary because the duplicates all ended in 1. You will want to tell this script to add the filename to the comments
    3) Then when you can create a smart playlist that uses the "Dupes" regular playlist and add in searching "comments" for 1.mp3 or 1.m4a or 1.m4p, however you want to filter your duplicates for deletion.
    4) Now you should add the column "Commment" to this playlist . This is optional, but I like to check to make sure I have the right songs, and not a bunch of real songs that actually end in 1 (maybe Stephen Malkmus's 1% of 1, for example).
    5) Now to delete files from a Smart playlist or regular playlist type option-delete. You should see the standard warning about keeping or deleting files etc. I wanted to delete the files so I choose "Delete files"
    6) Optional Go back to the Library and turn on "Show Duplicate Files" from the edit menu just to check you duplicate count and make sure it is in line with what you would expect.
    7) DONE!
    Hope this helps someone. Really, iTunes should have a facility to filter/search the library/playlists based on filename!
    Oh, and the 1 CAVEAT is that for the duplicated songs that you are keeping have the filename in the comments section. Oh well, deleting 7 GB of data was better than some strange comment info.

    Bill Hart

  • Debugging Jni Dll with VC6

    I'm having problems debugging my JNI DLL hosted by a tomcat application. Starting Tomcat under the vc debugger causes a lot of first chance exceptions (0c0000005) to be thrown by JVM.DLL. This happens before my jni dll is even loaded, here's a short dump :
    Nicht abgefangene Ausnahme in java.exe (JVM.DLL): 0xC0000005: Access Violation.

    JVM seems to catch those itself, but needless to say, this is something that shouldn't happen.

    Actually, this was a statement waiting for opinions...
    I can use VC2005, VC2008, WinDebug as well, same issue.
    And the real alternative is to have strict layering in the C code itself such that you shouldn't need to debug JNI itself at all.well, that's a strange comment. Is there any valid reason not to debug a jni DLL ?1. Because you can't. Say on a production system with strict install rules.
    2. Because you don't actually need to "debug" the JNI code itself because you maintain a strict boundary layer protocol. Thus bugs can normally only be expected in the functional C code (which allows for testing via other means.)
    3. Because it is difficult to do.
    And my favorite is because I would avoid JNI completely these days and instead use a separate executable that wraps the target functionality. Thus to discrete applications both which can be tested independently.
    When I used JNI in the past I never needed to use a debugger (because I followed item 2 in the above.)
    Other than that I can only see that you have two questions.
    1. You are asking if you are doing something wrong. You might suggest googling.
    2. You know you are not doing anything wrong and there is something 'wrong' with the VM. In that case get use to it. It isn't going away. Or at least not unless you have a sales contract and/or service contract with Sun/Oracle. And if you have that then this is site is not the appropriate way to use that.

  • IMac Fan Revved Up All the Way - NOTHING Worked!

    Hi,
    I've had a mid-2011 27" iMac (Intel) for about a year, and I am now facing the problem of having my CPU fan constantly revved up all the way (~4000RPM). I get this even when my CPU is 97% idle and the temperatures across the board (according to iStat) are perfectly normal.
    Now, I've tried every possible solution I came across, and nothing worked. Among what I tried:
    Resetting the SMC
    Resetting the PRAM
    Sleeping, restarting, shutting down, etc.
    Re-installing Mountain Lion
    Removing all sorts of applications and killing all sorts of processes
    Using every imaginable fan control software (and I do mean /every/)
    Formatting the hard drive and doing a clean install of Lion
    Formatting the drive again and doing a clean install of Mountain Lion
    For some reason, despite all the above "solutions" the fan still insists on revving up to above 3500RPM (usually the first few minutes or hours of running the machine after each of the solutions above works, but then the fan revvs up again for no apparent reason). In fact, the minimum CPU fan speed remains stuck at 3500 (even when I manual set it to, say, 1200, regardless of which fan control software I use).
    So, do I have a hardware problem? Is it a problem with my temperature sensors? Do I need to get something replaced? My problem is that I'm currently living abroad, in a country with no Apple Store in sight, and hence no access to an Apple Genius. I really hate the idea of manually opening up my iMac and messing around with it. But is that the only option I have? Should I try to disable the fan, for example? If so, how? Check for loose wiring? What?
    One final note that could be helpful: I noticed from the first or second week of using my iMac that its power supply makes a very faint buzzing sound when the machine is off (you have to place your ear next to it to hear it). Could this be a power supply issue, which hosed the temperature sensors over time?
    Please help me with whatever suggestions you may have. Thank you.

    I even tried booting off the Lion and Mountain Lion DVDs and can't find the AHT there either.
    Since there aren't any Lion or ML DVDs provided by Apple, that's a strange comment. For the AHT failure, assuming that the machine came originally w/Snow Leopard, try this.
    Mount disc 2, run this command in the Terminal app, OPTION-click & hold Finder's Dock icon, and select RELAUNCH:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1
    That unhides all hidden files/folders.
    Now, drill down to /"Applications Install Disc"/System/Library/CoreServices/ and drag the .diagnostics folder into your Lion or ML boot volume's /System/Library/CoreServices/ folder.
    Run this command to hide the normally hidden files/folders and RELAUNCH the Finder again.
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 0
    This should allow the machine to boot into AHT when restarting and holding down the D key.

  • Dovecot startup problems on Mountain Lion

    I'm not sure if anyone else has/had these same problems but here's what I've run into:
    a. the /var/run/dovecot directory didn't exist and dovecot's config was expecting it to exist,
    b. SSL certs were strangely commented out in /Library/Server/Mail/Config/dovecot/conf.d/10-ssl.conf file.
    I've never edited these files manually so something in Mountain Lion isn't working 100%.

    When I enter "doveconf" in terminal the last line is "doveconf: Fatal: Error in configuration file /Library/Server/Mail/Config/dovecot/dovecot.conf: ssl enabled, but ssl_cert not set"

  • Variable display broken wrt inherited members?

    I am using dbxtool (12.3) with a C++ application, and have trouble with the variable display window: for derived class objects with data members from a base class nothing is displayed at all if I enable "Include Inherited", I see neither the derived class members nor the base class members. With the default (i.e. "Include Inherited" not active), I see the derived class members, but of course not the base class members. Is this a known bug, bossibly with some workaround?

    Hmm... What a strange comment. From the source? Aren't we talking about Java? Inheritance and method invocations differs in Java and C++. I can understand if you wrote from the source, if it was Gosling who had answered. You should read about late and early bindings etc.
    Just as a side note. A base class and a subclass can have a private method with the same signature, since they can't see/invoke each others private methods. E.g. This compiles and runs fine:
    class A {
        public void doIt() {
            print();
        private void print() {
             System.out.println("A");
    class B extends A {
         public void doIt() {
              super.doIt();
              print();
         private void print() {
              System.out.println("B");
    class Example {
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              B b = new B();
              b.doIt();
    }/Kaj

  • IDOC - XI - IDOC with strange Config , Still working . Please comment !

    I am having an running IDOC interface in Production ...
    whose SAP XI Config looks strange to me ...
    This Interface is IDOC - XI - IDOC
    On receiver IDOC adapter ... following Options are checked...
    1. APPLY CONTROL VALUE FROM PAYLOAD
    2. TAKE SENDER FROM PAYLOAD
    3. TAKE RECEIVER FROM PAYLOAD.
    So all three Options are checked , But Now the strange thing is in Mapping ...
    When I look into the Mapping ...
    Sender IDOC   to     Receiver IDOC
    Sender IDOC is different from Receiver IDOC ..
    In Control Record ( EDIDC_40)
    TABNAME IS MAPPED WITH TABNAME
    DIRECT IS MAPPED WITH DIRECT
    IDOCTYPE IS MAPPED WITH IDOCTYPPE
    MESTYPE IS MAPPED WITH MESTYPE
    SNDPRN IS MAPPED WITH CONSTANT HAVING SAP XI SYSTEM RELATED VALUES
    SNDPOR IS MAPPED WITH CONSTANT HAVING SAP XI SYSTEM RELATED VALUES
    SNDPRT IS MAPPED WITH CONSTANT HAVING SAP XI SYSTEM RELATED VALUES
    RCVPOR IS DISABLED
    RCVPRN IS DISABLED
    So now my Query are :-
    1. IF RCVPRN/ RCVPRN is disables ... How interface is still working  as TAKE RECEIVER FROM PAYLOAD Option are checked , still that interface is working ... ??????????
    2. IF Receiver DOCTYPE / MESTYPE IS MAPPED WITH Sender DOCTYPE / MESTYPE, How it is getting Correct values .. if both Sender and receiver IDOC are Different????
    Please make Comments !
    Regards
    PS

    Hi,
    IDoc control record will get generated by the XI runtime and there are certain fields which cannot be controlled using mapping for e.g. in your case disabling of RCVPRN ..if you disable this field stil the value will be generated and passed to the receiver system...
    To check what exactly idoc values are passing then go to MONI and check there under Response ->IDoc Outbound which displays the control record values passed exactly...

  • Strange "code" in the Comments field when playing songs

    When I play some songs (probably 80% of my archive) iTunes generate some strange code in the Comments field. This is quite annoying, since I use the field to write additional info about the song, artist, location, whatever.
    Examples of such codes:
    " 00000244 00000000 000010B3 00000000 00022325 00000000 000057AD 00000000 00004E37 00000000"
    " 0000014C 00000151 00000551 00000580 0001119E 0001119E 00003C73 0000379B 0001D4D7 0001D4D7"
    and so on...
    How can I stop this generation of random numbers and letters in the comments field?
    null

    Ick.... Well, maybe you're right. I also turned off "let itunes keep things organized" at about the same time. Between turning off sound check, itunes organizing, and the WMP settings, I have never seen it happen again.
    I still think it was WMP, as I only open WMP rarely to listen to web clips and I noticed it had happened to some tracks I had not played in itunes for years, and it happened right after that WMP update. I'd had the sound check and itunes organization thing on for years.
    One thing we can agree on, it was totally random. No rhyme or reason to it, and I even noticed that it didn't even affect all the tracks on some albums.
    I just turned sound check back on, only on my Mac, because that is just my backup copy of files. We'll see if it hits again.
    edit-(it's determining sound volume on x of 393, weird, I have over 27000 tracks in my library)

  • Strange behaviour with Subjective Assessments comments in SSM10 SP10

    Good day community,
    We have strange behaviour with Subjective Assessments comments in SSM10 SP10.
    We have been using this successfully for 3 quarters.
    The scenario is as follows.
    Business users capture Subjective Assessment comments successfully and these can be viewed on the scorecard overview for Q3. This can be printed to PDF successfully as well.
    A few hours later, when the user accesses the Scorecard Overview, the Q3(March 2014) comments are now replaced with the
    Q2(Dec 2013) comments.
    This has not happened previously. We have recently deployed Internet Explorer (IE) 10 to some of the machines that previously used IE9 or IE8. Could this be a contributing factor?
    This has happened with one database on 2 contexts.  Although the database/scorecard in question has been created on SSM10, we have recently upgraded the rest of the organisation onto SSM10 from SSM7.5 but those are completely separate databases.
    We have not found a pattern yet, but there is only one assigned administrator for this database and she often has 'funny' things happen on her machine. Could it be possible that there's a virus on her machine? Or maybe there's a sequence or combination of steps that she's doing that could cause this? We have not been able to recreate the situation in our developer offices.
    Any ideas on this strange behaviour would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Natasha

    Hi everyone,
    We have since noticed that if you go into the Administrator > Context Management > and change the "Person Responsible" and then save, once you go back to the Scorecard Overview all the Q3 comments have been overwritten with the Q2 comments.
    This happened on a different machine so it seems there could be a bug in the Administrator.
    Any thoughts on this strange behaviour would be appreciated.
    Regards,
