Strange cpu clock report DV7T 4100 CTO

just bought the DV7T 4100 CTO with a core i7-720qm processor (windows 7 64bit)... updated the bios to F.23. The strangest thing is that every single diagnostic software (CPU-z, Hardware Monitor, Intels T-monitor...etc...etc) reports my CPU as a 930Mhz on idle...although im sure its supposed to be 1600Mhz...
when i pump up prime 95... it reports 1750 Mhz ...            why is my CPU beeing reported as half the speed than it should be? (having intels turbo thingy in consideration here...)

Ok...here's the main problem...
the multiplier stays at x7 at idle (133 bus x 7 = 931Mhz)
when in turbo mode it goes up to x13 (checked it with TrotthleStop...x13 is the maximum supported multiplier)  which brings the CPU to 1729Mhz...
Problem 2. the temperature coresponds to the factory CPU values...since at 931 Mhz it stays at 50-55 C (sometimes 60)
while at 1729Mhz it climbs up to 80 C... which is what most people would get if they had their real clocks...
it almost seems as if the Bus speed or the multiplier value is reported divided by 2...            anyone know the benchmark CPU values of this (or a similar) model...so i can compare?
Thanks in advance...

  • Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO Select Edition Entertainment Notebook PC hard disk failure imminent.

Lately this laptop has been running slow and hot. Just yesterday,  I recieved an error message on my laptop (HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO), saying "SMART Hard Disk Error" followed by a message telling me that the SMART hard disk check has detected an imminent failure. It told me to backup my files and then press F2 and run a hard disk test. The Quick Test Passed. The complete test gave this error.:"Hard Disk reporting failure 301 Disk Name: Toshiba MK7559GSXP Volume C:/D:/F:/)". I am sure I will have to replace the hard disk. Right now it is a Toshiba 750GB SATA hard disk drive, 5400 RPM, 2.5 inch small form factor (SFF). Can this hard drive be replaced with a Hybrid SSHD like the following:
    Seagate Hybrid Drives ST1000LM014 1TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 2.5" Laptop SSHD
    or
TOSHIBA Hybrid Drives MQ01ABD100H 1TB+8GB(NAND Flash) 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Laptop SSHD
If not, what would be the best replacement hard drive that you reccommend?

    Hi,
You can put the second HDD on the second bay, existing BIOS can handle this BUT you need more hardware namely a caddy set (caddy & cables). You can buy from:

  • HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC Hard Drive Replacement

    Hello,
I have HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC and I had had hard drive issues from within warranty period. i.e. I purchase in 2010 and had a hard drive replaced in 2011 and again in 2012. Next time it failed in 2013 (almost 11 months apart on an average).
Last time when it failed, the warranty had expired so I thought of giving it a few try e.g. running thru bad sector fixing/writing-off softwares from seagate, Toshiba....this got me out of Smart Drive Error.
I have been using the HDD for sometime now but want to be prepared for the next round and I'm sure it'll be gone for good the next time.
Current HDD is 640GB, 7200 RPM Hardrive (replaced in 2012). HP Part# 621046-001.
When replacing, can I use ANY 640GB hard drive? Can I use a hard drive that is larger than 640 GB? Different RPM?
    Any suggestions about hard drive?
The recovery discs I had received with the replacement drive did not work correctly. I had to use the first set I had created right after I purchased the laptop.
    Thank you.

    Hi Pratik Patel
    According to product manual:
Your system supports SATA 9.5mm or 12.5mm , 2.5" HDDs
    supports upto 2 hard drives
    supports SSD too.
    Single hard drive configurations supported:
    250GB, 320GB, 500GB @7200RPM @9.5mm
    640GB @5400RPM @9.5mm
    750GB, 1TB @5400RPM @12.5mm
    160GB SSD
If you want dual hard drive configurations, please click following link (user manual):
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02666747.pdf
But, there is not hard fast rules that only 5400rpm can be used instead of 7200rpm, which was used to replace your earlier hdd.
    hope this has helped you.

  • My Recovery Drive is Full, How do I clean it up? (HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO)

Hi, I'm not too comfortable with messing around with the inner workings of my computer, but the Recovery Hard Disk Drive has been slowly filling up for a while now. It is just about full and I was wondering if there was any way for me to clean it up/restore it without messing up my programs and files? I did it once before, but I can't remember how and I'm too scared to mess with it without some kind of instruction.
I have a USB hard drive for making back ups that I use now as a precaution if something goes wrong with cleaning the Recovery Disk.
My computer is a HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO Select Edition Entertainment Notebook PC running on  Windows 7.
If someone could give me some advice, that would be wonderful.

  • HP Pavilion DV7T‐4100 CTO USB 3

    I have a
    HP Pavilion
    DV7T‐4100 CTO
and it appears that is does not have any usb3 ports.
    I just bought a usb3/sata hd caddy.
Now my questions is will the usb 2 ports put out enought "juice" to run the usb 3 caddy which has only one usb connections and no external power supply?
I know that my HP Pavilion DV7T‐4100 CTO has a combo usb2/firewire port and I'm wondering if I pug my usb3 caddy into it will it power up the HD?
I belive that usb3 is downwardly compatable with usb2.  So if the connection has enought "juice" will it run the HD?
    Thanks
    rafalovich

    Hi rafalovich,
You are correct, that USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. There are plenty of USB 2.0 SATA Docks, so it should provide enough power, but the transfer rates would be at 2.0 USB speeds.
    Hope this helps.

  • K7N415 Pro & Strange CPU clocking

    Hi everyone,
I have a K7N415 board and a 1.333 Ghz AMD Athlon.  just today I noticed in Windows that the CPU speed was being reported as 1.07Ghz.  I went into the BIOS and messed with the frequenxy settings and got these results:
    133/200/66 - 1066Mhz
    100/266/66 - 800Mhz
    100/200/66 - 800Mhz
    133/266/66 - 1066Mhz
I'm almost certain that before it was set to 133/266/66 and running at 1333Mhz.  Any ideas what happened?  I haven't had any problems recently other than the HDD not being seen at 2 boots, but a power down and a cold boot fixed that and its been fine since.  I'm at a loss for what's happening.  I'll be trying to reset the CMOS, but I'm not sure that'll fix it.
    Here's more detailed system specs:
    MSI K7N415 w/ 1.333Ghz AMD Athlon
    512 MB Ram
    60 Gig IBM HDD
    Windows XP Pro
    GeForce 4 MX 440-SE
Thanks for any help you may have!
    Tim

"too"?  In addition to resetting the CMOS?  Also, where is the multiplyer?  I never had to mess with that before.
    Thanks!

  • Weird Issue: CPU Clock Multiplier Changes During OSD TS only on Single Model at Single Site

    Hey Guys -
I've got a weird issue I need suggestions on, please.  I recently started at a company which already had pretty extensive OSD TS used for all models.  One issue they were having was that a specific model (Dell E5440) at only one specific site would
not only go through the OSD TS slowly, but run slowly after being imaged.  Weird issue!
    The Issue
When looking into it today, I ran an extensive report on a machine with the issue and my system which is also an E5440.  I exported the reports (16mb each) to a text file then compared in WinMerge.  When I reached CPU Type, I found the following
    difference:
    My Machine: Intel Core i7-4600U, 3000 MHz (30 x 100)
    E5440 /w Issue: Intel Core i7-4600U, 800 MHz (8 x 100)
As you can see, the multiplier is somehow at 8 instead of 30.  how does this happen during OSD - especially - only at a single site which runs the exact same task sequence?
I looked through the TS (which I'm still becoming famailer with) but haven't seen anything which would edit the BIOS.  To be honest, I wouldn't even think that changing the CPU clock would be possible with this type of model.
Any ideas or suggestions as to how to fix and/or (more importantly) why this is happening?
    Thanks!
    Ben K.

Finally found issue.  Wanted to post in case anyone had issue in the future.  Turns out that the issue was not with SCCM.
The tech at that one site uses the same 65W power adapter for all models at his bench.  As it turns out, the issue was that Intel Speedstep saw the 65W, thought it wasn't enough, so moved
    the multiplier down to x8.
When having them try a 90W power adapter (which shipped with the system,) the issue was resolved and moved back up to where it should be.
Strange as Dell does sell a 65W as an accessory to the E5440, but doesn't mention any speed difference.
    Thanks for your suggestions!
    Ben K.

  • HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC - Upgrade Processor

    Hello,
    Any help would be appreciated.
I have an HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC.  Because of a new job I need to update my processor from the current 2.30 GHz (see exact specs below, please) to at least 3.0 GHz.
Is there a 3.0GHz processor out there that is compatible with this particular computer? I've called technical support and was told they don't know. I really don't know who else to ask.
This computer was just purchased a few months ago (before I got the new job). I would really like to avoid purchasing a new computer, if at all possible, if I can upgrade the processor in this one.
Here are the specs of the current processor:
    Intel Core i7 3610QM
    Code Name    Ivy Bridge
    Package    Socket 988B rPGA
    Technology    22nm
    Specification    Intel Core i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz
    Thanks in advance.
    This question was solved.

Well, there appears to be just one (that I've found) 3.0 GHz processor that Intel makes for my chipset  (HM77 Express Chipset) and it's the i7-3940XM Extreme edition (http://ark.intel.com/products/71096/)
At a retail price of $1,000+ it looks like I'm going shopping for a new computer.
Not sure if anyone from HP read the peer forums, however, I will not be purchasing another HP product.
This machine has had issues outside of me needing to upgrade the processor for my own personal reasons. Your support is grossly lacking in all areas Your techscannot even pull up the model number with the serial number.

  • [nForce] Current cpu clock has changed

My cpu was running ok, the bios showing Current CPU Clock 1833MHz, System Performance [Auto] and cPU FSB Clock [100MHz]. Some time ago I had a problem getting the AGP card to work, when I did I took a digitial photo of all the BIOS settings when the PD worked - thats how I know the above setting.  A couple of day ago I noticed that the cpu was running cool and performance wasn't as good as it should be so I checked under "System Properties" and that shows an Athlon 1.09GHz.  I've tried clearing CMOS and setting BIOS defaults (read on this forum somewhere). I've also tried FSB at 133, 166 and 200 but still only seem to report an Athlon 1.09GHz. Any suggestions.

  • Lenovo Helix i7 CPU cpu clock down after Bios 1.14

    Hi all.
I have about 25 Lenovo Helix, and I must admit that I'm a little angry - I have found out that after bios 1.14, then run the only maximum 2.5 GHz, whereas before it ran 3.0GHz - not that I have purchased. It's an easy solution to the heat, just to clock the CPU down.
Is there anyone who can help me, what can I do? Some have bios 1.10 to lie, it works with the real speed. You can easily feel the difference.
    Thank you

Use a program like coretemp and after executing the program hit F4 or from the menus select logging. Run some processor intensive applications, either software (AutoCAD, hd video, etc.) or benchmark such as (IBT, Ortho, etc.) then review or post the csv here.
The multiplier is a ratio of the cpu clock rate and front side bus. For instance, with the Helix the fsb is just under/around 100mhz. The clock will either throttle down to 8x and speed up to 32x, resulting in cpu speeds between 800mhz to 3.2Ghz, respectively.

  • CPU clock drops to ~8Mhz

    Hello.
I have upped my CPU clock in order to do some testing. As it can be seen I have set the multiplier to 40x. I also set my voltage.
I was just wondering why HWiNFO64 reports my core clocks sometimes dropping from 4Ghz to 8Mhz (what it seems is PCIe Clock dropping from 100mhz to 0.2mhz).
It happens both in game and while idling on desktop and the graph shows it stays there for about 2 seconds. Interestingly I don't have stutter or fps drop in-game.
This is how my BIOS looks like, and this is what HWiNFO64 monitor is saying.
Are my BIOS settings correct? I'm thinking I should use another program to monitor this, but which one? Something that provides a graph would be good to actually see the history

Yes I understand that, however certain applciations freeze up when this happens. CPU typicalls runs at 20 % when browsing the web and higher when using some applications but randomly drops to 0, and these applications lock up. Is there any way to fix this?

  • Cpu usage reported by port 311

I am using Nagios to monitor my servers (one Linux box and one Mac Mini Server with Mountain Lion, all upgrades installed).
For the Mac server, I was using check_osx_server plugin, which is using port 311 to get information from the OS-X server. After the last upgrade (I am not sure if it started with the 10.8.2 upgrade or the latest supplemental upgrade), the CPU Usage reported by the server is very strange. The thing is, it's not Nagios which is reporting wrong numbers, it is the server itself which is returning erroneous values. You can check this by opening a browser window and point it to https://yourserver.com:311 and then select servermgr_info and then from the drop-down menu getHardwareInfo and click Send Command. That XML document returned from the server, is where check_osx_server plugin is getting its numbers from.
What I have found so far:
    1. When you first power up the server, if you check the CPU usage you get a number with 20-something digits. This is crazy, because the number reported is supposed to be less than 10000, since that number is divided by 100, to show you the CPU Usage percentage.
    2. The number remains the same for ever. Obviously, the CPU Usage changes with time, and that was reported accordingly, in the past. Now this number changes only if you run Server.app in the server or on a remote Mac. It changes to a more meaningful number (four digits, since this number has to be divided by 100, to get the CPU Usage percentage), but again, it remains the same for ever, until you close Server.app and re-run it. It also changes, if you go to the Stats in Server.app and change the default period from 4 hours, to 1 hour, but not if you change from one hour to 4 or 24h. Here is a sample of the XML file returned:
    > <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    > <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN"
    > "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0">
    > <dict>
    >     <key>command</key>
    >     <string>getHardwareInfo</string>
    >     <key>cpuUsageBy100</key>
    >     <integer>9183</integer>
    >     <key>cpuUsagesBy100Array</key>
    >     <array>
    >         <dict>
    >             <key>cpuUsage-0</key>
    >             <integer>9094</integer>
    >         </dict>
    >         <dict>
    >             <key>cpuUsage-1</key>
    >             <integer>9272</integer>
    >         </dict>
    >     </array>
There are more lines, but I have cut the file for brevity.
    3. Again, as long as the Server.app is running, the CPU Usage reported does NOT change. Only if you quit Server.app and re-run it, it changes.
From the above, it is clear that port 311 is no longer reporting the momentary CPU Usage, but some other value, which is stored somewhere and is not updated unless you run Server.app.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior?

tried but stuck funnily with this message on every check:
ERROR: Problem Contacting Server:<urlopen error [Errno 8] _ssl.c:504: EOF occurred in violation of protocol>
until i fixed this issue i probably can't say anything...

  • Change CPU clock when idle

Ok, so what I'm interested in is automatically changing the cpu clock after <n> minutes and putting the clock back to "performance" governor when the mouse or keyboard is touched. Yes, I have tried the cpufrequtils and its ondemand governor with p4-clockmod (Celeron M inside) and it works ok, but not the way I want it. It is dynamic, but it's too fast. It changes clock immediately. What I want is to be able to automatically change it after 30mins, and put it back on to 1700MHz when the mouse or keyboard activity is present. So that's something like a screensaver from xset.
I would want it to execute this after <n> minutes:
    echo <some_cpu_clock> > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_setspeed
(p4-clockmod will already be loaded at boot)
    Any ideas?
    Last edited by archman-cro (2010-05-10 16:09:18)

Ondemand is a problem for me cause when I stop working something, it automatically in a second drops the clock to the minimum, and when I want to do something after 10 seconds or so, I experience a slowdown when the clock is "rasing up", so that governor isn't really good for me. If you understand what i'm saying...
So, basically, I want something "less responsive" in terms of clock changes. Ondemand ones are too prompt for me.
Any further ideas about what you mentioned (X)?
Btw, found this code to determine the idle time from xscreensaver, but it only reports 6 ms max, dunno why...
