Strange CS3 UI Disappearance

Hello all,
Just upgrade my system to Vistax64 and installed my CS3 on here and its working great. There is however a strange thing going on with my palettes UI and it disappearing. I was just testing it out after the install (which installed fine) and have been using it now for about two weeks. I did try searching all over Google and stuff like that to see if anyone else ran into this issue but didn't really find anything useful. Attached are some screen shots so you can see what I'm talking about.
As you can see, that is actually my Layers Palette has no top border, heading, nor tabs. It's just blank. If I click onto it, it will collapse (minimize) and everything will show up again (tabs, buttons to close the palette, etc) If i click on it again, then it'll just expand like it should look. It no only does this with the layers palette but with all the windows docked to the right side if expanded out. (not sure if I'm making any sense, pictures tell the whole story)
I'm running Vista Ult 64bit, 8 GB Ram and 3.5 Ghz quadcore processor. It works and runs fine, this just happens every once in a while and its very annoying. Also happens in dreamweaver, flash, and illustrator. I did reinstall photoshop twice just to make sure that it just wasn't a faulty install but it works and works well. Just besides this UI bug.
Anyone have a fix for this or suggestions? Drivers have been updated for my gtx260 card, all hardware drivers are good. Just this strange anomaly

I held down Alt Ctrl Shift as Photoshop was bootings up.
I'll be checking out my plugin's and various running programs that could possibly be messing me up but also keep in mind that this was also a completely new install on a pretty much new PC.
The OS was a new install. I upgraded my one 80GB harddrive to 2x 1TB and am running them mirrored. So the OS was installed on the new hard drive(s) and the 80 was reformatted and I'll be using that for my system back up. So essentially, it was literally a new install. Just stuck the OEM Vista disc in and let it go. But I'm open to any suggestions if you have any.
Also, I put the theme back to Windows Classic, and it's still doing the samething, also restarted the comp after I changed it but no go. Below is the attached screenshot of it in classic mode.

The Strange Case OF Disappearing Elements!

For some time I have been using EA to build an entire website using lots of Symbols and animated buttons and also using external js libraries Edge Commons and Edgehero. I have a few elements with links to other external sites that are coded to load in an new Window.
Wierldy, when the links are clicked, the new windows open displaying the correct content but when I return to my window with my site some elements have disappeared! Animated buttons - which are used for the main site navigation - disappear! strangely the elements are not visible but when I hover over their location the links for the navigation are still active and the pointer changes to a pointing finger to indicate that an element is present but not visible! a ghost in the machine?
Anybody got any clue whats happening? I should point of that I have not published any files in the project yet and I am working completely in mode=preview so maybe this has a bearing on this matter because I'm linking away from my window in preview mode. I have a few elements that link to document downloads and these links work fine because the files reside in the same local directory as the main index [page]. This is all I can come up with.

Alternatively, you might try in Symbol_9 creationComplete:

If this alternative works, then you will need to repeat it for every disappearing symbol in their respective creationComplete. Fred's solution for this weirdness works for elements on the Stage in creationComplete. And it might be that the disappearing element may need to be referenced and not just the symbol containing the element and so the pain continues...
Try in Stage creationComplete:
sym.getSymbol("Stage_PFEILE").getSymbol("Symbol_9").$("yourdissapearingelement ").css("-webkit-backface-visibility","hidden");
or alternatievely in Symbol_9's creationComplete:

After last OS Update, CS3 Palettes disappear

After the last OS update that we ran at work all of our palettes disappear when you leave a CS3 program and then come back to it. It seems to mostly happen when you go to a different "space" and then come back. You have to go in and reset all of your palettes. It happened to 5 other people in my office. Any clues to how we can fix this?

This is DEFINITELY a pain, especially if the last tool you were using is the Text tool. In this case, you cannot just hit the Tab button a couple of times to make the palettes visible again.
The Space concept is a very cool one. However, if you have to struggle to get your application tool palettes back every time you change Spaces, it defeats the purpose of quickly moving among application groups in each Space.
Someone PLEASE let us know if there is a way to prevent palettes from hiding when using Spaces.

CS3 installer disappears

I'm still running CS3, and after calling Adobe support I was informed they don't have phone support for this product and the only suggestion by tghe rep I talked to was that I start a discussion in the forums to see if someone else can help.
My system crashed and I lost several of my programs. I've cleaned the computer up, and am trying to avoid doing a total windows reinstall. I got hit with a virus that took out some of my programs, including Photoshop.
My system meets the minimum qualifications, and it's been running CS3 absolutely fiune since 2008 when I installed it. It's only now that I'm trying to reinstall it that I'm having problems.
When I run the installer, in "initializes" then that disappears and nothing happens. I've been all over the forums trying to find solutions. I've uninstalled Flash, set IE as my default browser, disabled my virus program - same result. I went into msconfig and restarted with minimal services running - still no luck.
I tried the install disc in another computer to make sure it wasn't damaged - it starts the install process just fine on my laptop so the disc is not the problem.
I copied the install programs to my desktop and ran them from there.
I'm assuming something is causing a conflict. I've tried to read through the install log but I don't know what I'm looking for.
Any suggestions?

Dennis: I think in the deep dark recessed of my mind I know that's where it's headed. I have a lot of programs I need to save setting files for, etc. if I'm reinstalling everything and I don't have the bandwidth for it this month. I was hoping I could get CS3 installed so I could get some projects out of the way that need to be finished and then do a system reinstall after.
I do have multiple hard drives, but I didn't have my programs segregated. I was using a separate drive for the PS & Lightroom cache files. I'll likely make that change if I have to reinstall everything.
PE - I forgot to add that I can the cleanerscript also. Not sure how well it worked for a CS3 install, but it said it didn't find anything to remove.
If I can't get an answer that will let me install it I'll have to put my projects off and dive into reinstalling XP - not really what I wanted to do this week...
I read in one of the forums that someone found a way to use the CS4 installer to install CS3 - does that even make sense? I wasn't sure what they were talking about.

Strange Problem -- Thumbnail disappears and I can't open the photo.

Please help. Just upgraded to V1 last night (a few bumps but everything's up and running, lot of work to do still reorganizing my library) and one of my five-star rated photos is acting strange. I can see the thumbnail in the library when I scroll through the folder, but as soon as I try to open it it disappears and blank space is left in the grid where it once was. if I remove the cursor and scroll, the thumbnail shows up again, but I can't get that picture selected! I though it might need to be reconnected so I tried to reimport, but it told me the image was already in the library and asked me if I wanted to open it. When I said yes, it showed me the thumbnail but then the thumbnail disappeared again when I tried to open it!
any thoughts? I need this picture.

mine are raw. i don't want to delete the folder because I have lots of edits on other images in the folder that I don't want to lose. fortunately, I was able to find another image in that sequence that suited my purpose so I re-edited that and used it. one nice thing is that with cloning/healing I didn't have to go into photoshop at all! :) but that other image is still acting strange....

Adobe Bridge CS3 - Favorites Disappear

Every time I open Adobe Bridge CS3 I set up my favorites folder just the way I want them; but when I close the program down and reopen it, the favorites menu has been cleared.
I tried saving my work space; But this was to no avail.
The work space layout stayed in place but the favorites are still erase when I load the work space.
Also, if it helps to diagnose the problem, when I try to open the preferences Adobe Bridge CS3 immediately crashes.
I've tried deleting the cache folder & I've tried repairing Adobe with the install CD with no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Great when things work again; funny how you can try something and it does not work the first time; then magically it does - the joys of software!
I often wonder what the preferences file in Bridge does for us, if we can clear it and not notice that we have lost any settings.
I hardly use Bridge since I moved to Lightroom, except to check that Bridge sees what Lightroom does. But I must say that I like its Metadata panel.
If neither Bridge nor Lightroom existed, I think that I could survive on Photoshop CS3 alone and manage files without either.

Strange Problem: Apps disappeared for no apparent reason

I updated my 3GS the first day the 4.0 update came out. I didn't have any problems. This Tuesday (the 6th) I woke up after my alarm went off on my phone and all of my apps were gone! I hadn't done anything weird to my phone... I didn't plug it into iTunes or my computer the night before or even the week before. So I'm not sure why they mysteriously disappeared. Does anyone have an idea why this happened?

Was this phone ever jailbroken or hacked?

CS3 Layers disappear when importing map into InDesign

I have an Illustraor .ai file of a map with many layers and when I import it into my InDesign document
some of the layers disappear. When I open the map in Illustrator they are all turned on but in InDesign some seem as they are turned off or transparent. Very frustrating...any help is appreciated!

Thanks so much for your responses. Although I don't complete understand what the issue was becasue I am no Illustrator expert I did find a solution. I found that there were multiple layers within a layer and also many of those layers had paths/compound paths. So I pulled the layers within out and made new separate layers for them all and removed unnecessary compound paths. So now I have many layers instead of a couple layers with multiple layers within. Confusing I know...but it worked!

DreamWeaver CS3 and disappearing menu SOS

I just uploaded a new school web site that appeared fine on all my computers (mac and pc) but behaves differently on different computers whether they have IE 6, 7, 8 XP or Win 7. There is no common denominator and I don't want anyone to have to click compatibility buttons or download updates.
Specifically, the menu moves up and to the right with the Contact Us tab disappearing. Or, the entire menu disappears from view. Or, the screen tips don't show up. That's it. My only issues, but I can't for the life of me figure out a fix.

Further research shows that this is an ongoing issue with Firefox.
This is sort of like driving a car. Most of the cars that I drive Down Under, have the indicator lever to the left of the steering column, that is until I bought a European car (VW Touareg - my forum name). Every time I wanted to use the indicators, my wipers would be activated. Is this called an ongoing issue with European cars??? I just had to learn to use the indicator lever on the right side of the steering column.
So too with browsers, one interprets an instruction with a lefthanded lever, the oiher is righthanded, figuratively speaking.
We have to learn to accommodate each of these differences if we want to target our audience, so to say that it is an ongoing issue with Firefox????

Very strange problem! Disappearing Css Style Sheets plus 404's

I am creating a fairly simple form and am new to php mysql and jquery. However, I am moderately skilled in css and html.
I am on a mac with Snow Leopard using dreamweaver CS5. The problem started this morning when I uploaded a preliminary version of my html form page and a php script page.
Having previewed it with no problems on my local system, I thought my main challenge would arise from stumbling my way through ironing out the scripting. I still have that to look forward to.
The first anomaly that occurred was that I kept getting 404 errors. After hours of tinkering around and uploading many trimmed down modified variations of the html file, I finally got past the 404 error page.
However, it only would appear without my css styles. The file was originally linked to a previous css style sheet and is linked to a new one on local system.
After doing some firebugging, I discovered that my newly uploaded (20 times) html file was still linked to the previous phantom, css style sheet on the server as well as a previous php file that I had linked to in development stages.Both of which are not on the server. So I uploaded the whole bunch of them again and got the same result. Nothing changed. All the css styles are still there but not.
I know what you're thinking, it's impossible.
The only explanation I can come up with is that my linux apache server is putting my files in a nonexistent temp folder. And for some reason the my site.css file is not being overwritten or removed at all.
I then uploaded new versions of the html file with different names, thinking on an off chance that the file name 'contactform' might have something to do with the problem.
You know what happened the newly named files triggered a 404 once again.
It doesn't make since to me! I am totally stumped!

Your CSS file as wel as both of your JS files are corrupt.
Re-upload these three files and your problem is solved.

In Windows 7 I mistakenly un-installed Adobe Application Manager and all applications (CS3E, CS5 and Elements 6) have disappeared from programs on the start menu

WIN7: Mistakenly un-installed Adobe Application Manager and now all Adobe apps (CS3, CS5 and Elements 6) have disappeared from the programs list in the start up menu.
CS5 Bridge is still there so I can get into the photo editor to de-activate it and re-install.
However, all of CS3 has disappeared so I cannot get into it to de-activate.
Question 1: Will downloading and re-installing Adobe Application manager get CS3 automatically back?
Question 2: If not, what to do to get CS3 back things working properly again? Remember, I can't de-activate it.

Don't worry about activation unless you are installing on a new and different machine. Simply reinstall in order. It should all work.
Then install any updates. Product updates
After that, let me know how it went and if there are any further questions.

Strange vertical lines - unresponsive phone

Hello! I have an iPhone 4s, and recently a friend dropped it and smashed the screen. I got it repaired, and then I noticed what looked like a broken pixel at the bottom of the screen. After noticing this, my phone has randomly gone black, unresponsive for x amount of time, and then it will flash up with a white screen with strange lines which disappear over an hour or two, leaving me unable to use my phone. It happened again, but I was left with coloured lines such as green and blue vertically on my phone screen. I sent my phone to be repaired by the previous person and they are unable to find anything wrong - what could it be? Many thanks in advance

That you dropped it and you had a 3rd party fix your screen, who probably messed it up even more. Or your phone was damage internally.

Strange behaviour after every cold-boot

I have iMac, 21.5", late 2011.
OSX Lion 10.7.1
All other software are up-to-date (including latest Firmware)
I have noticed that, every morning when I turn on the machine, a series of weird things happen, as followings:
1/ The start-up screen has a progress bar running like it does updating its firmware
2/ No WIFI Card installed??
3/ Pixellated screen, take long time to load up the menu bar on the top
4/ No Camera?? (photobooth keeps spinning the ball)
5/ Generally slow
Here is what I have done:
1/ Resetting PRAM
2/ Reset PMU/SMC
3/ Repair HDD permission
All of these strange things will disappear with another reboot (?!). So, I have to reboot 2 times to get the machine works properly everytimes.
Any other idea?

Try this workaround:
When booting wait for logonscreen to show before turning on bluetooth devices (keyboard, mouse and trackpad).
Or just let it sleep
What you are experiencing is a boot into safe mode.
Safe boot (otherwise invoked by holding down shift key during boot) will cause issues like you describe.
It will do a forced filesystems check (grey progressbar) Other things you may see is no sound, no startup items getting loaded, slow graphics etc. etc.
When rebooting it will boot normaly, hence your issues will be gone.

It's a (maybe not very) known issue with bluetooth devices and iMac's.
Please report this issue to Apple. Then maybe it will get fixed in some update.

Strange Items Under Shared Devices In Finder Side Bar

I have file sharing on for both my lap top and imac. Each shows up under Shared in the finder side bar. And I am able to connect to either one if I click on them. However two other devices show up as well. These two devices do not exist. When I use "Get Info" for them it indicates they are PC servers. I don't have any such thing. One of the items actually has a hyphenated version of my base station name. If I click on that one it says "connection failed". If I click on the other one it says "connected as guest" but nothing shows up in the window.
Is there anyway to delete these items/devices or at least keep them from showing up? And why are they showing at all?

I appreciate you taking the time to look. My 3 macs are now displaying only other Leopard computers. The strange ones have disappeared. One strange listing did look like my airport express base station. I have a 2nd express airport which servers to play my itunes. I, also, have two PCs on a Linksys wireless network and a wireless printer on my airport network.
Have no idea why the strange additions have disappeared. In an attempt to get them to disappear, I did shut down & restart each computer (Macs & PCs), unplugged and replugged both express airports, turned off then on the printer, and unplugged and replugged the linksys wireless router connected to my DSL modem. My goal was to isolate the equipment causing the strange listings. No luck. Could only modify the strange listing by totally taking down the wireless network at the DSL modem. Then, after returning from working at a client's; everything looked normal. ?????

Disappeared dashed lines options

very often when I want to adjust the spacing for the dashed lines in Indesign cs6, the options disappear in the stroke flyout panel.
Strangely, it remains disappeared for the specified file forever. The workaround that I do for this is that I open a new file, make the dashed lines as desired, (yeah, the options come in a new file), then copy paste it. What exactly is causing this weird behaviour?

I'm always beware of new versions, often they are heavier and take longer time to process, e.g. photoshop cs6 i found slower than cs5
You haven't select the Dashed Line at the bottom of the Type options.
You have 2 different stroke weights selected, that's why weight shows as nothing.
Bold part: That's just not true for everyone, in fact I find each version of all the Adobe suites to run perfectly fine - there may be something you need to change on your system to get the programs to work better. But I never notice any difference from version to version regarding longer times to process.
