Strange Cursor Actions

A problem with my wife's MacBook.
The cursor has started to show a kind of hyper activity level. When moved and passing over a file, the file is automatically highlighted and dragged. The file then has to be moved back and the touchpad clicked.
If sitting still on a blank part of the screen for a short time, when moved a box starts to form as if selecting a group of files when in icon view. Again the touchpad has to be clicked.
When on a web page, will automatically click links, which is great if wanted.
The cursor size only has been increased with Universal Access, nothing else is on.
This does not happen if using a mouse.
The system preference file has been discarded, followed by a reboot, no effect. Permissions and hard drive have been verified, all correct.
The only item not up to date is iTunes.

Found the problems when allowed to check into the problem. It was with the System Preferences that were set for the trackpad and mouse. One of the items grab and lock was set. All the things you only see on laptops, that I was totally unaware existed.
I'm finally getting to learn more about the laptop.

  • Strange Cursor Problems

    Hi everyone,
I have been having a lot of strange cursor manifestations happening after I reformated my computer and reinstallled the Adobe Suite.  However, the only problems that pop up seem to be in Photoshop.  I'll try my best to explain...
Whenever I adjust the size of the of a brush or switch between tools (like the clone stamp, healing brush, eraser, brush) or sample an area, either the brush cursor manifests twice so that I have to circles side by side or it turns into two lines on a diagonal that cross over each other (not crosshairs though).
I never had these problems before, and have no cursor problems outside of Photoshop.  Anyone have an idea of what is going on, or even better, a solution?

Update your video driver from the web site of the maker of your video card.  That's been known to solve problems such as what you're describing.
What video card do you have, by the way?  nVidia?

  • Curve 9320 intermittent strange cursor behaviour

I bought my wife a Blackberry Curve 9320 for Christmas on the Three UK network.  All went well for about 5 days, when coming out of standby using the button on the top, the cursor could only be made to moe within the app icon area, not first her up to message notification or network areas.  Also, pressing the trackpad button or any keyboard button had no effect.  I had for restore to pulling the battery out.  i put the battery back in after a few minutes and hen it restarted everythinng was back to nomal.  Approximately five days laer the same thing happened, with te same 'cure'.
is this a known problem (OS info in sig) or is there some action I should take to resolve it?  I'm sure my wife's patience will run out soon if I don't find fix permanent fix.
    Thanks for any help.

It sounds like what I have seen multiple times on a device with moisture damage.
Even sitting on a bathroom counter during a hot steamy shower or bath can cause keyboard and trackball problems UNTIL properly dried out. It really is more common than you think.
    1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
    2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 3 to 5 days* (see below)
    3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
    4. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.
Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):
*Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.
*On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor
*On the dashboard of your car on a sunny day

  • Question about strange cursor behavior - Sybase ASE 12.5.4

    Hi folks,
I have a stored procedure in Sybase ASE 12.5.4 presenting a strange behavior. Follow below some code to simulate the error.
/* Create the table structure */
    drop table tbx1
    go
    create table tbx1
    (c1 int,
    c2 int,
    c3 char)
    go
/* Create a CLUSTERED index NOT UNIQUE */
    create clustered index idx1 on tbx1 (c1)
    go
/* Populate the table with few records */
    insert into tbx1 select 1, 1, 'N'
    insert into tbx1 select 2, 1, 'N'
    insert into tbx1 select 2, 2, 'N'
    go
/* Test case #1 - The following code will not fetch the 3rd record */
    declare c1 cursor for
    select c1, c2 from tbx1 where c3 = 'N'
    go
    declare @c1 int, @c2 int
    open c1
    fetch c1 into @c1, @c2
    while @@sqlstatus = 0
    begin
select @c1, @c2  -- View the current fetched row
      update tbx1 set c3 = 'N' where c1 = @c1 and c2 = @c2
      fetch c1 into @c1, @c2
    end
    close c1
    deallocate cursor c1
/* Recreate the table structure */
    drop table tbx1
    go
    create table tbx1
    (c1 int,
    c2 int,
    c3 char)
    go
    create clustered index idx1 on tbx1 (c1)
    go
    /* Repopulate the table */
    insert into tbx1 select 1, 1, 'N'
    insert into tbx1 select 2, 1, 'N'
    insert into tbx1 select 2, 2, 'N'
    go
/* Test case #2 - The following code enters in an infinite loop, fetching the 3rd record indefinitely */
    declare c1 cursor for
    select c1, c2 from tbx1 where c3 = 'N'
    go
    declare @c1 int, @c2 int
    open c1
    fetch c1 into @c1, @c2
    while @@sqlstatus = 0
    begin
select @c1, @c2 -- View the current fetched row
      update tbx1 set c3 = 'N' where c1 = @c1
      fetch c1 into @c1, @c2
    end
    close c1
    deallocate cursor c1
If we execute a select on tbx1 before execute Test case #1, the result is:
    c1   c2    c3
    1    1     N
    2    1     N
    2    2     N
If we execute the same select on tbx1 after execute Test case #1, the result is:
    c1   c2    c3
    1    1     N
    2    2     N   --> row position changed
    2    1     N   --> row position changed
Analyzing the execution plan, updates on both Test cases are being done in deferred mode.
Could someone answer my questions, please:
1 - After executing Test case #1, 2nd and 3rd record change this position in table. How could this happening since I'm not updating any fields in the clustered index? This have any relation with deferred update deleting and reinserting the rows on overflows pages?
2 - Suppose the updates are changing the rows position in the table, how could explain the inconsistent fetch order on cursor processing (on Test Case #1, only 2 records are fetched - on Test Case #2, the loop never ends)?
    Regards,
    Douglas

Thanks for your replies. I've already solved my problem, just creating a unique clustered index. But I haven't understood what happened yet in the 2 cases above.
As suggested by Mark, I've read Chapter 18 from Transact SQL Users Guide. In section
"Join cursor processing and data modifications", there is a citation about what happens with cursor position after a update:
"A searched or positioned update on an allpages-locked table can change the location of the row; for example, if it updates key columns of a clustered index. The cursor does not track the row; it remains positioned just before the next row at the original location. Positioned updates are not allowed until a subsequent fetch returns the next row. The updated row may be visible to the cursor a second time, if the row moves to a later position in the search order".
As stated above, the cursor position keeps the same independently if the rows change their order.
I don't know if my logic is very simplistic, but I imagine that what should happen in #Test Case 1 is (assuming the access method is a clustered index scan):
    a) After the 2nd fetch, cursor position is on 2nd row:
    c1   c2    c3
    1    1     N
    2    1     N   <-- cursor position
    2    2     N
    b) After the update, 2nd and 3rd rows switch their positions, but cursor should keep its position (before 3rd row):
    c1   c2    c3
    1    1     N
    2    2     N
                    <-- cursor position
    2    1     N
    c) On 3rd fetch, the 3rd row is read "again" and cursor reaches the end of table.
In relation #Test Case 2, I can't imagine how a cursor could enters a infinite loop since the cursor position shouldn't change and "apparently the row positions are the same" after the "incorrect" update.
Moreover, I still have doubts about how a field update that isn't in a clustered index can change row position in a allpages-locked table.
The main goal of my questions isn't solve the problems but get a better knowledge about some Sybase internals (and avoid similar problems in the future).
Please give me more detailed explanations about my questions and comment my analysis. Related readings about this issues are welcome.

  • Strange cursor behaviour

My iMac has developed some strange behaviour involving the cursor. I cannot correlate this with any other events, such as software updates.
On web pages and similar windows, the cursor no longer changes shape when hovering over hyperlinks. The click still works and the cursor changes to the pointing finger as, or immediately after, the link is clicked.
On menus, the selection highlight doesn't move with the mouse, and the subsequent fold out sub menus don't appear unless the left mouse button is held down, in which case the menu selection works fine.
Yesterday, the click and drag stopped working for files in finder windows. It still works on the desktop icons, and text in windows and documents can still be selected by dragging the mouse. But I can no longer move files between folders by dragging; in particular, I can't move files out of the Trash without copying and pasting.
I have repaired permissions and checked the disc for errors, no change. I have started up in safe mode, where the odd behaviour is still present, and it remains after restarting normally. I have tried different user accounts, no change. My MacBook has virtually identical settings, applications, etc. and this is not suffering the same problems.
Anyone have any ideas what to try next, or what might be at the root of this issue, please?
    Many thanks,
    Stephen

    Further update:
Following research in other topic discussions, I suspected that the problem was related to Intego VirusBarrier X5, which other users suggested caused problems when near or beyond expiry of the subscription. Mine has expired. On removing the Intego software, the drag and drop functionality was immediately restored. (The other, lesser problems are still there, but I can wait for a fix for those.)
This is a bizarre issue, and if it is deliberate to 'encourage' renewal of the subscription, it is disgraceful. I shall spend no more money with Intego.
Intego's uninstaller can be found here: http://support.intego.com/kb/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=214 and works well and quickly.
I would still be interested to hear any solutions for menu and cursor problems, please.
    Regards,
    Stephen

  • Blue-screening and strange cursor

    Hello, everyone.
I'm having some strange problems with my Mac. I can't power it up outside of Safe Boot--I reset the PRAM and that worked for about half an hour, but then my computer locked up, and resetting PRAM won't restart it in normal mode. I've tried fsck, but nothing wrong came up, and when I rebooted, I still had the blue screen.
Also, I have a weird bar code-like thing following my cursor. I've never seen this before and can't figure out how to get it to go away.
Here's where it gets complicated: I'm out of the country (in Seoul), so all of my start-up disks are in America, and I'm not really sure where to go from here.
Any help would be really, really, really appreciated. I'm a total wreck without my computer.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi m, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
It sounds like you may have a GPU issue. Depending on which model of MBP you have, it could be the NVIDIA issue. If you have the 8600 GPU, go in to an Apple Store or AASP to have it tested. If it qualifies, the repair would be free.

  • Strange Cursor

my mouse curser in illustrator suddenly appears very strange - and the shapes always get strange stretch ...
Can someone explain to me what happened?

That's the appearance of the cursor when you are drawing on the Perspective Grid. Your shapes are "stretched" because  they are being drawn in perspective. Ctrl+Shift+i will get rid of the grid or View>Perspective Grid>Hide Grid. Don't you see the grid on your artboard?

  • Very Strange - Form Action="Post" is Being Received as a GET

    Hi All,
I have been having some trouble with this intermittent problem. It seems that every once and a while, when a user submits a form with the action set to POST, we recieve the request as a GET with no parameters. The strange thing is, the form will work for the same user in the same session but then, all of a sudden, this will happen. This is happening on several of our pages and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Quite frustrating.
I am hoping that somebody somewhere has run into this problem before. Thanks in advance for your help.

I use a shitty little daemon called tinyweb. It sets an environment variable CONTENT_LENGTH to 0 if it receives a GET request, and puts the GET parameter string in the environment. If it receives POST, it sets CONTENT_LENGTH to the length of the data and pipes it to the standard input stream of my script/executable.
I don't know how your's works, but my method for getting the data is like this:
    1) If CONTENT_LENGTH is 0 or undefined, just get the data from the environment variable.
    2) If CONTENT_LENGTH isn't 0, then read all the data from stdin.

  • Cursor Action Lag

    Hi Folks,
    Fireworks CS3, MacPro quad 3ghz, OS 10.4.7-10.
THis has always been the case with fireworks on my machine.
Any time i make a selection, drag an object, select text etc more
that once or twice sequentially, the cursor lags. Not visually, but
the Selection made in a click and drag would be as if the cursor
was clicked a second or so reviously.
    Making any sense?
I can do a video grab of an example if anyone wishes to see.
    It's extremely frustrating.

  • Question about 360 movieclip with cursor action

    Hello Flash Forum
We have a question about a 360 flash / movieclip which comes
to a halt or jumps to whereever the cursor is moved horizontally
while any vertical movements is ignored. We are having difficulties
to implement this and would like to ask whether someone can point
us into the right direction in Flash 8 - read somewhere that this
is extremely easy in Flash 8 but we cannot find out how!?
    An example would be:
    http://www.kswiss.com/cgi-bin/kswiss/store/product_detail.html?mv_arg=x&pid=01190:177
    and then chosing 'Go 360'
Thank you for any assistance and/or direction.
    Alex

Alex, took a look at your sample - looks to me like
start_drag and stop_drag on mouse_over. Hope this helps. ash

  • Lenovo Flex 15 strange cursor behaviour

    Hello everyone,
I've purchased a Lenovo Flex 15 and downgraded it to Windows 7. Everything works like a charm, except that sometimes the cursor starts to move on its own to the top left corner on the screen where the "computer" and "my documents" folders are located and it starts to open them.
This behaviour happens randomly... do you have any idea what is causing this?
    Thanks for the help.
    Atom

I'm glad to hear it's improved! I haven't dug into the hardware too much, but usually the touchscreen is a USB device of some sort. However, the touchscreen usually uses a bus on the LVDS (maybe it's eDP now?) cable. This is why the resolution is typically lower than 1920x1080.
For what it's worth, I've had no problems with mine either. I haven't pushed any new updates lately apart from the standard Windows updates, so your guess is as good as mine .
    Thank you for the update!

  • Strange cursor behavior?

Hi, I'm brand new to Flex, and while testing my first program I noticed that I couldn't grab the hslider because my cursor was changing to a text selection cursor. Even though there is no text in the upper left corner, and a panel with no text that contains the slider, when I hover over the top left corner of the application the cursor turns to a selection cursor.  I have no Idea why this is happening.  There are no hidden text boxes or anything like that.  Any help would be appreciated.  Here's the code.

     </mx:Application>

You've got your countdown text in the upper left hand corner (X=28).  Change that to a label.
If I ever have a front end issue where nothing happens when I think it should it is more often than not due to a front end error being thrown.  However, you will only see this error if you are running the debugger version of Flash in your browser (remember it is browser specific - so one loaded on Chrome isn't the same as one loaded in Firefox, etc).  Google "flash debugger player" to find it.
I've noticed you've got an "mx" prefix on everything including your app.  MX was the precurser to the "S" (Spark) prefix.  There are a few remaining components that are still MX, but you should really be using Spark components for everything.  Faster, better, easier, etc.
Finally, you're really into absolule layouts, huh?  Some objects (like the panel) already have layouts assigned to make your life easier.  You'll want to get into building skins and components to build out the layouts like you prefer then you'll spend less time with all the x and y business.  Also try playing with the vert and horizontal layouts.
    Good luck!

  • Strange cursor distortion and cursor glitch

On my iMac G5 20" Revision a my cursor flashes a sort-of distorted shadow when it's dragged over web links and text fields. This happens when the arrow cursor switches to the finger or the text cursor; there is a moment in this transition when the cursor blinks a larger, pixelated version of itself that trails just behind the actual cursor. It's mostly noticeable in places with darker backgrounds (anything other than white) such as web pages and the iTunes quick search field (which is surrounded by that brushed metal-looking background).
At first I thought this problem was restricted only to web browsers, but I've since noticed it occurring systemwide.
What could this be? A hardware problem?
    Regards,
    Marc

    Hi again, Marc —
"I fear a hardware problem... What should i do?"
      (1) Contacting AppleCare or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider (AASP) strikes me as a good way to proceed. Are you still within the initial warranty, or have an AppleCare Protection Plan in force? If so, I don't see a down-side to this: if the problem isn't solved during the conversation, you'll be given a case number for use at an AASP — limited to authorized hardware problems — or for future reference. If the problem persists, your subsequent call(s) may be forwarded to higher-level support folks.
I'm having a hard time envisioning a hardware problem that'd follow only your cursor's path — but I'm no "Genius."
      (2) Hardware?   If it were the graphics card or display, I expect you'd observe more uniform behavior. You may want to read through the graphics sections of the iMac G5 Developer Note. (I think this is the right link for your model...)
      (3) I recommend that you search &/or post about this in the Using your iMac G5 &/or Your iMac G5 display forum(s). Other owners of your model should be able to help identify this if it's a ~known hardware-related issue.
      (4) Although this problem probably seems comparatively "minor," you may also want to check and confirm whether your model falls in the serial number range for the iMac G5 Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues.
      (5) Speaking generally, Apple Hardware Test includes component testing of the logic board and video, but not of the display module. I'd suggest you run AHT in Extended Test; then, if all components pass, further in looping mode. But, based on our dicussion so far, I tend to suspect software...
      (6) Software.   I'm out of ideas for the moment about another software-related cause that would only relate to cursor behavior. I looked through several ADC documents, but most of the command stuff is beyond me. Perhaps another participant...
      (7) "...the cursor-problem is system wide and not safari-specific."   Yes, I understood that — sorry I wasn't clear. I was trying to suggest you consider whether the behavior correlates to high memory (RAM: physical and virtual) usage. Activity Monitor can aid in determining this.
      (8) "Unfortunately all screenshot-program i tried, do not take picture of the cursor... ."   Did you try using Grab's Capture »» Timed Screen feature?
    Good luck!
    Dean

  • New version of thunderbird strange sending action

Hi, TB upgraded today to 31.3.0 and ever since then, if I wish to reply to someone for whom I have an account (non-receiving) set-up, it sends from that person to me, not from me to that person.
Example, I have an account for my friend, Victor, because sometimes I send the occasional message in his name, after setting up desired formatting, etc. Well now, trying to reply to Victor's note to me, it automatically makes the Sender "Victor" (instead of me) and me the recipient.
I'm finding it doing variations of this issue at various times now. I reverted back to a previous version, but for some reason the "New Message" (or Reply) style still looks the same as how it appeared with 31.3.0 (different from before) and it does the same thing. PLEASE HELP! If this keeps up, I will be unable to continue using Thunderbird.
    Thank you.

Sorry for panicking, everyone. I'm still with TB... just learning to pay more attention to the "From" sender before sending the message out. I hope this glitch can be corrected on the next release. Or is there a way to set an automatic sender that will cover even "strange" situations like this one? In general I am default, but unpredictably it registers as someone else sending (simply because I have to have sending capability for that person on occasion), and it's very bad and bothersome when it happens, particularly if I don't catch it.
