Strange drop shadow on menu when build

i am importing a psd file into dvdsp for a menu. the text from the psd, only at the bottom of the menu, is creating a funny gray drop shadow when i build the project. it doesnt appear when i simulate the project and none of the other text in the psd is creating a problem. I have tried adding or subtracting a drop shadow in psd, removing the text from the psd and creating the text in dvdsp, with and with out a drop shadow, extending the BG color solid under the text in psd, and removing the other layers in the psd, nothing works. any help is much appreciated

EPS is simply unsuitable when dealing with transparency (which is what your drop shadow is). So you need to work with AI for placing in InDesign. If other suppliers need EPS, then just send them that. Nothing should keep you from exporting another file format.

  • Bookmark bar RSS feeds randomly display only a drop shadow, no menu

Ok, I have an odd issue that just started occurring after an OS reload. When viewing my RSS feed pull-downs from the bookmark bar, they'll often-times open up 100% transparent, the only thing visible being the drop-shadow that surrounds it. The menu still works; I can still click things and it will bring up the page, but since I can't see what it is, I have no clue what I'm clicking. I can get it to be visible again by closing and re-opening the pull-down (sometimes takes a couple tries).
Nothing has changed with my browser profile since I last reloaded windows. I reloaded Windows (7 64-bit) once because my secondary HDD controller crashed on me and I reloaded windows thinking there was a faulty driver stuck in the OS (that and to get rid of the extra junk from the past several years), but later found the motherboard was going bad, so I replaced it and reloaded again (primary is 2x SSD Raid 0). I'm now running that second reload and loaded my profile the same way as before and I'm getting the issue.
To save and load the profile I did the following: FireFox menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information > Show Folder (Profile folder) then closed FF and copied the entire contents of the folder to a backup directory. Reloading the profile was the same process but copying the files back to the profile folder after closing FF. I did this on the first reload as well and had no issues, but for some reason I'm running into it now. Seems to occur more during heavy file transfer loads (such as copying from USB HDD to SSD raid). Not actually sure if that's related or not though.
Anyway, any ideas why this might be occurring?

  • "scratches" on graphics and strange drop shadow

I am using Indesign CS3 on Windows XP.
I am making an entry form for a bike race. There are 4 photos on the cover - all the same odd shape - a rounded lumpy shape. All have the same drop shadow. I can't understand why one of the drop-shadows is different from the other three, when all have the same shape exactly and have received the same treatment. It looks as though the bottom is cut off the bottom of the shadow. Instead of a nice feathered off shadow there is a hard sharp cut-off at its lowest point under the photo.
Also when I print to pdf, I get the appearance of straight fine scratches across the graphics in odd places on the .pdf as though it has been scratched with a knife. (I am printing a best quality .pdf.)
I work alone at my home in the wilds of New-Zealand so there is nobody for miles I can ask for help, in fact there is nobody for miles full stop.

It sounds like the drop shadow is being cut off by the bottom of the frame. Try dragging the frame larger with the selection tool.
The lines you see are most likely what is called stitching, which is a display phenomenon and should not print. It happens when flattening transparency (your drop shadows). This can be confirmed by zooming in on a white line, or turning off "smooth line art" in the acrobat prefs.
If this is really a problem, change you PDF export settings to Acrobat 5 or higher to preserve transparency in the PDF.

  • Strange Drop Shadow Problem

    Hello,
This has been driving me crazy! Why is Keynote automatically adding a drop shadow to my Data Point Labels???? Even when I select the labels above my bars, click on the Graphics button (in the Inspector window) and un-check the Drop Shadow box, it still leaves a drop shadow on them.
Any ideas? I can send you the Keynote file if necessary.
    Thanks
    Kit

    Hi,
You might try Edit > Select All and see if the Graphics Inspector Shadow checkbox has any mark in it. Just something to try. If there is a dash in the box, some objects are shadowed and some are not. A couple of clicks there should clear everything.

  • In Logic X printing to pdf gives me strange drop shadows after the notes, text.. etc.

I'm doing a score layout in logic pro X and sended some PDF print files to my client, but he said there were drop shadows on the notes and text. It's really annoying and I can't figure out what the solution for this problem could be. I opened an older project in logic 9 to find out if it was the software, or maybe the conversion to pdf, but in logic 9 there was no problem . The pdf's were sharp as a knife.
Is there a solution for this problem?
    Many thanks for any help

I have the exactly same issue.

  • The drop shadow or even the type does not show up on the PDF created from SC3

I've created the legends on charts and the text on path and drop shadows are applied.
when I make a PDF, some text get dropped all together as well as the drop shadows do not show up.
Can someone help to solve this?
The only way is make a jpg. files and then create a separate PDF off the Acrobat.
It works but I would like to save the steps.
    Thanks!

    Hello markshepherd1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
According to the following article, when you're going through the process of burning a playlist to a disc, you have the option to select "Include CD Text".
If you’re creating an audio CD, choose your options:
    Change the recording speed:
Choose an option from the Preferred Speed pop-up menu.
When you burn an audio CD, iTunes automatically uses the best recording speed for the CD. However, if your blank CD is rated for a slower speed than the maximum speed of your drive, or if you experience problems creating CDs, you may want to change the recording speed to match the CD’s rating.
Change the amount of silence between songs:
Choose an option from the Gap Between Songs pop-up menu.
Have all the songs on the disc play at the same volume:
    Select Use Sound Check.
Include information that disc players in some vehicles can display:
    Select Include CD Text.

  • CS3: Drop shadow always on

I can never open the Transparency dialog without the drop shadow being on by default. If I select an object with no drop shadow applied and then open the Transparency dialog, the drop shadow suddenly applies. I've set the drop shadow to off with no document open but it still insists on always being there.
The gradient feather option behaves the same way although it is not quite as persistent as the drop shadow.
This is becoming extremely annoying to the point where I'm beginning to cringe if I need to use transparency.
    iMac G5, OS 10.5.5

I think I figured out what was going on. I have a custom key command set up to bring up the Transparency menu. However; the key command was applied to the Drop Shadow specifically and not to the Transparency dialog box. This is why the Drop Shadow was on every time the Transparency dialog appeared.
I've reset my keyboard command to Transparency and not the Drop Shadow. Now when I hit my command I get a clean Transparency dialog with nothing already on. Much better.

  • Drop shadow for images

I've done this easily in Photoshop CS3 but now I'm trying to teach people with Elements 6 or 7 how to add a drop shadow to their images. The help menu seems to think that I would add it only to text.
When I follow the procedure with an image open, nothing happens.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Mary Lou

    Mary Lou,
To add a drop shadow to the entire picture:
    1. Duplicate the picture layer.
    2. Increase the canvas size. The duplicate layer will be on transparent background.
    3. Apply the Drop Shadows Layer Style. To change the default shadow, open the Style Settings and adjust the various settings.
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1bxVVZCr9XHbMWpqGLbFyTNkpdVsma1
You can also create a drop shadow not using the layer style:
    1. Duplicate the picture layer and increase canvas as above.
    2. Ctrl-click the duplicate layer to select it.
    3. Create a new layer below the duplicate layer and fill with black.
    4. Use the Move tool to position the black layer where you want the shadow to be.
    5. Soften the edges of the black layer using a Gaussian Blur.
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1fUAf62zQNztHfAbEOjTg8DSGaltBl0
In both methods you can lighten the shadow by reducing the layer's Opacity, or darken the shadow by duplicating the layer.
Also note that when you use the Drop Shadows Layer Style, when the Style Settings is open you can use the mouse to drag the shadow wherever you want, even totally off the object (unlike with the Shadow Distance slider).

  • I can't tell if my previous messages came thru, but I need help with PSE 7.0. I can't use my drop shadow brush set anymore.

I am not sure if any of my previous messages went thru or not, but I have Photoshop Elements 7.0. I learned how to open a blank file and use a textbox to make my watermark and also my copyright logo and save them each as a brush. They were saved in the Drop Shadow Brushes. When I used my cloning stamp yesterday, I switched brushes to basic. When I later attempted to go back into the drop shadow brush set where I had saved the watermark and copyright logo, a message came up telling me the file couldnot be opened because it wasnot compatible with this version of Photoshop. I presume it is because of the special brushes saved there. What do I do now?

  • Unwanted drop shadow showing up on shape objects - BUG?

    Hi all,
I am currently using photoshop cc 2014 and pasting vector objects in as a "Shape Layer" - for some reason a shadow is showing up around every object i create since i upgraded to cc 2014 but it is NOT a layer style. How do i remove this? is it a graphics issue or processor issue? Does anyone know the settings to allow me to create shapes with sharp edges?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm running into a similar problem. I've pasted a shape from illustrator as a vector smart object. When I have a green rectangle below it, there is no drop shadow. But when I hide that layer, the drop shadow clearly shows above the white background.
It appears to be controlled by the global light under layer styles, but I can't turn it off even when "Drop Shadow" is unclicked.
Drop shadow clearly showing, even when it's unclicked in Layer Style.
No Drop Shadow showing when there is a green rectangle underneath.
Drop Shadow appears over white Background when the green rectangle is turned off.
Drop Shadow appears to be controlled by Global Light, but there seems to be no way of turning it off.
What am I missing here? Any help would be awesome. Thanks!

  • Drop shadow blur issue

Hi, we have come across an issue using Illustrator drop shadows with a large blur. What seems to happen is that Illustrator expands the box size and after fading the shadow to nothing it seems to fade back to the colour. To try create a box with a colour fill, add a drop shadow with any colour other than black with about a 7mm offset and a blur of over 10mm

I see the problem for one thing when yo give the feather a large setting it extends beyond the the shape that it is generated by so it is actually expanding beyond what a pears to be a clipping path that is totally invisible as well as extending to the opposite direction of the direction of the offset.
You can draw a shape that can mask the edges showing and make a clipping mask.
You can also make your own shadow which might prove to be a better option with a feathered copy of the objects shape and filling that with the color you want you can give it quite a feather if you desired.
The reason that might be better is that you can use a spot color which does not seem to be supported in drop shadows but is supported in feathered shapes.
This is puzzling as I swear I read somewhere this was fixed?
This is what a drop shadow looks like when created with a feathered rectangle of course you have more control this way as you can resize the shadow to give it a more realistic feel as a shadow would be larger then the original shape.
So the way they should fix this is to also have a setting for the clip as well as a setting for the size of the shadow or if the wish distance from object calculation.
So the feather technique also gives you the option of adjusting the placement of the shadow in a manually tactile manner. You should probably group the two once you finished or make it a symbol as Mordy points t making these types of object symbols are useful
and can come in handy especially if youy want to export to Flash at sometime in the future.
Anyway I am going to add these ideas to my feature request for cast shadows and other enhamcements to the shadow effect.
You can all do so as well.

  • Getting rid of titles' drop shadows?

Is there anyway to tell iMovie not to use drop shadows in titles? I can't seem to figure it out. Almost all of the presets use drop shadows. I just want the plain font, "flattened."
It seems silly that drop shadows are forced when they are not always appropriate.

    Glueslabs,
There's no way to turn off the drop shadows in iMovie HD.
You'll find that the drop shadows can greatly improve the legibility of your titles when viewed on a standard definition television.

  • IMovie titles - drop shadow

I may be missing something really obvious, but i'm hoping for some help if there is an answer.
I simply do not want drop shadow on text when i make titles, i can not find a way to switch it off.
On a similer line, i have made simple graphic title pages up as jpg but when imported into iMovie (HD) they go blurry and look awfull. I have tried a multitued of file types and obviously bumbed the quality to 100% but no joy. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for taking the time to read this...
    Ian

Thank you a pleasure to be here although i am a little unsure how much i will be able to help other people. I quite recently switched to Mac and haven't really had many problems to solve. Why i bought a Mac really after coveting them for a few years and being stuck in windows ****.
Aaaanyways. You do make a very good point. However i don't actually edit for DVD very often, this is all for web and particuly when using white lettering on a background the text looks dirty as it fades in. The style i use is also very much in tune with the website i run, very bright and... blocky i guess is the closest i word i can find to describe. Very simplistic indeed. Orange and white are the clours of choice for the project i am on now.
As you say, drop shadow has its use and reasons for using, but right now i really don't want it and don't seem to have that option with iMovie. In fact the ONLY place WMM beats iMovie is on the titles front.
I appreciate it could be a case for stepping up to a higher end application but i am currently prohibited by cost and actually like working with a simplistic editor for now. Learning to walk before i run
    Thanks for your words Sue
