Strange Effects on Footage

This is my first attempt at using OnLocation CS4.  I was recording a workshop via a old Sony camcorder (DCR-TRV320) as a pass through. I started the recording and watched it for several minutes.  I left to do something else and just checked in periodically to make sure it was still recording.  The 2 hour workshop appeared to record sufficiently.  However, to my horor, when I reviewed the footage later that night, there were all types of random effects, i.e.; grayscale, sienna, bounce in, pixelated dissolve, etc.  What happened?  What did I do wrong and can I fix it?
HELP!

The Sony DEMO mode is an odd bird to say the least.
There could be a Demo Mode setting in the menu when the Power switch is set to camera.  There are two settings On and OFF
However the manual is somewhat ambiguous as to the possibilities.
Quote from the manual for a consumer DV camcorder:
Notes on DEMO MODE
You cannot select  DEMO MODE when a cassette is inserted in your camcorder.
DEMO MODE is set to STBY
(Standby) at the factory and the demonstration starts about 10 minutes after you have set the POWER switch to CAMERA without a cassette inserted.
Note that you cannot select STBY of  DEMO MODE in the menu settings.
When NIGHTSHOT is set to ON, the NIGHTSHOT indicator appears on the LCD screen or in the viewfinder and you cannot select  DEMO MODE in the menu settings.
The definitive answer to turning off the  DEMO MODE would appear to be to make sure you have a cassette in the unit at all times, even when not recording to tape.

  • Strange Effects When Using Erase & Clone Tools In CS4

I recently upgraded from Elements 8 to CS4 and I've noticed that I have started getting strange effects with both the erase and clone tools. When I have been working with either of these tools for a while I suddenly find that left clicking the mous will cause a spurious reaction in another part of my image. The erase tool erases strips and the clone tool clones other colours and areas. I suspect that it might be due to the amount of memory I'm using but advice would be appreciated. I am running Windows 7 and  I have 4.00GB of physical memory and 11.8GB of virtual memory.
    Looking forward to suggestions.

I've found the solution to the problem, although it doesn't really please me because I've had to sacrifice the number of history states I can keep. I have reduced the number to 15 from 20 and the problem has gone away, which indicates that it's a memory problem. I'm going to slowly increase the number of states until the problem re-appears.

you can see the effect in my uploaded photo... in my profil...

It appears to be either a bad graphics card, or bad capacitors on the motherboard.
If you have a non-iSight G5 iMac, you can take the back off your iMac and inspect the capacitors visually.  There are 28-30 capacitors standing up off the board like tiny little cylinders.  Look for dark spots, bulges, or leaks.  If they okay, it's probably the graphics card.
I had a similar situation, and mine was a bad graphics card.
Capacitors can be replaced by an experienced electronics repair person for about $250-$350.  The capacitors themselves are cheap, it's the labor.
The graphics card could probably be replaced, but it would be a used replacement part and probably similar costs.
Better to use the money on upgrading to a new computer.
    Good luck.

  • Strange effects in borders

I have two tabbed panes. In the first one, I have 3 JPanels, each one with a JCompound border added by this code:
    infoPanel.setBorder(BorderFactory.createCompoundBorder(
                                         BorderFactory.createTitledBorder("Info"),
                                         BorderFactory.createEmptyBorder(5, 5, 5, 5)));
infoPanel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(700, 150));it all looks ok, until I fire an event in one of the JPanels.. The I suddenly have strange effects, like parts of one panel showing inside another one... Does anyone have a clue where to start searching!?

    Hi,
I don*t whether this can help: You can try after the you have fired the event to set the preffered size again.
Which LayoutManager do you use for the panel that holds the three JPanel's in the first pane?

  • Video Filters effect on footage

If I capture footage inverted, like from a 35mm adapter, and rotate it twice so it is right side up does the render effect the quality of the footage? it seems it shouldn't, but i'd like to know for sure.
    thanks
    vince

As any effect, scale or rotation, and you render. There is a quality. Not much but there.

  • Dynamic Link from Premiere to After Effects (Source footage keeps erasing)

I am using Premiere cs4 and when I right clip on a clip on my sequence and hit (Replace with After Effects Composition) It opens it up with after effects.  That part works.  I also can make changes in After effects to the clip and I go back to Premiere and the changes are made.  The problem is when I close After effects, in my premiere project the file that I changed in after effects goes offline and It is only color bars.  If I open up the after effects project again it also shows that the source footage I edited is offline.
How do I fix this issue.   All I want to do is take a couple clips in my premiere project and edit them in after effects.  How do I keep it through the dynamic link and keep it saved even when after effects is closed??  Or if I have to reopen after effects how do I make it so the footage loads back in?
    Please help!
    Thanks

    Hellow Kate
Now that worked for me 2! Thank you very much for the advice. Hope they fix this serious issue in the CS5 edition that is announced.
Otherwise I think the adobe-software is not wurth that amount of money. Indeed, it's very incredible software with great tools. But
such problems can not be tolerated...
Hope they do something about it!

  • Strange effects in using f:convertNumber and h:inputText

    Hi everybody,
I'm having really strange results with the following <h:inputText> and <f:convertNumber> tags in one JSF page:
    <h:inputText id="total" value="#{myBean.total}" required="true" size="10" ><f:convertNumber minFractionDigits="2" maxFractionDigits="2"/></h:inputText>
When I enter the value 1585,9 for example, it is converted to 1 585,90 when I click on some link on the same page. And this is OK, since I'm using French locale. But when I click on the same link or something else, the value is changed to 1,00 !!! The other strange thing is that if I show the same value in a <h:outputText> tag, the value is always OK, that is I always have 1 585,90.
Does anyone has any idea, and tell me how to solve this weird problem?
    Thanks
    Billy

I found out after playing for a good time with different tests. The problem is that JSF uses NumberFormat to parse input string, and characters following an invalid character( space in my case ) are ignored! That's why I got just 1,00.
So,the solution is to write a converter to handle this as follows:
    1. In method getAsString(): format the string according to the locale selected.
    2. In getAsObject(): remove any space in the input parameter, and return the appropriate value.

  • Strange effects using distortion controls (within motion tab)

I have been trying to put a vanishing point perspective on a clip by pulling two corners of the clip to the centre of the screen. It looks great in the canvas as I make the adjustments but when I try to render or export the clip the result is not uniformly distorted but looks chopped and realigned with a clearly visible horizontal joint through the image - very strange looking and not what I am after. Any ideas out there???

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Any filter applyed on this clip? If so, remove them, nest the distorded clip in a new sequence, apply the filters to this new sequence and render.

  • Scaling behaving very strangely with 4K footage in a 1080 sequence

I have brought some 4K footage (4096 x 2160, ProRes 4444) into a new project and placed it in a new 1920 x 1080 sequence. "Default scale to frame size" is unchecked. I elect to "Keep existing settings". As expected, footage comes in a 100% so I'm just seeing the center of the frame. Playback is normal. As I scale down, I can see more of the frame - great.
When I scale below 50% however, things get weird. As I'm scaling down (by dragging the mouse) and cross below 50%, the image in the Program window suddenly jumps back to what appears to be 100% and continues scaling down from there. When I let go of the mouse, it jumps back to what appears to be the correct scale. But things get weirder when I press play. The image in the window doubles in size. I have created a video to show you what I'm seeing.
    • My Zoom Level is 100%
    • This happens regardless of whether or not I use "Default scale to frame size".
    • This happens regardless of what Playback Resolution or Paused Resolution I use.
    • This happens whether or not I have Program on a second display.
    • This happens no matter what I've tried to do differently so far.
    Please advise. Thanks

    Hi Drking2020,
I see you have seen this forum post: Re: 4k Playback in 1080p Sequence - Zoom out in 1/2 resolution
Try those things that Mark Mapes mentioned, such as changing the playback resolution.
    Thanks,

  • Headline Newspaper effect on footage

Is there an effect where I can make a freeze frame look like it's apart of a headline newspaper? Meaning, the subjects look like their on a front page of a newspaper.

  • Strange effect over clickable items (Box of lines) please help!

As you can see from the picture there is a weird effect over everything that can be clicked on, I am new to Apple Computers and do not know how to fix this. please help it is an iMac G5 running OSX 10.4.11
    - Grayson

    Miriam,
It's lovely, they look like Apple generated pics, perhaps from a screensaver?
Are you seeing the hashmarks on the clickable items that I am? I'm not following the "lovely" aspects you mention!
    Dirthouse,
This has come up before and I'm researching to refresh my memory as to whether it's a software or hardware problem. I'm thinking hardware, but I also notice you have some question-mark icons in the Dock, indicating some programs have lost their associations with the Dock icos.
Does this persist after a restart? What happens if you repair permissions? Do you have your original gray system disks so you can run Apple Hardware Test?

  • [SOLVED] Tmux in terminal emulator having strange effect on X session

Hello. I've searched about and googled for this problem for a while, but to no avail. The problem is this:
When in an X session, in the Awesome WM, when I fire up a terminal emulator (so far I tried lxterminal, xterm, urxvt and lilyterm), the console (from before the X session) appears with the X startup messages and it's stuck that way. I'm still in the WM however and the mouse shows. I just can't see anything past that console screen. I can't see any error messages thereon either.
When not in Awesome (and X), tmux starts up fine, and also when in Awesome and I run
    sudo tmux
    in the terminal emulators.
I first encountered this some time ago, using just lilyterm, but then I tried running tmux in lxterminal instead and it worked fine. Now this always happens, no matter the terminal. Right before this incident, I was doing some experiments with running a detached tmux session on login. I tried executing in .bash_profile, .bashrc, .xinitrc and .config/awesome/rc.lua. Since this started happening at some point, I'm not sure when, I tried some different files. Now I have removed what I put in them but this behavior keeps occurring. I've tried to make sure the $TERM variable is set right inside and outside tmux for some of them and
    set -g default-terminal "screen/screen-color256"
    in the .tmux.conf.
I sync my config files between my laptop and desktop so they have the same behavior, except on the desktop the console screen flashes momentarily and then all GUI programs have disappeared from the screen, leaving just bare Awesome. I can then start some more GUI programs again. If I try to start tmux again in another terminal emulator. I get the "nested tmux sessions" message.
I don't know if it matters, but using screen instead works as intended. Anyway, any help is appreciated. My tmux.conf is really just
    set -g default-terminal "screen"
    at the moment.

Tried the same in Openbox instead of Awesome and I get the same behavior. I also made a tmux session before starting X and attached it in the terminal emulator afterwards. That worked, but when I try to make a new window in that session with Ctrl-b C, the same thing happens. So this happens if I try to make new sessions or windows as the current user in an X session. Listing and killing sessions works as intended.

  • A strange effect with pitch bend

I want to make a pitch bend (portamento) that lowers the tone from A to G, i.e. a double half tone. I use my PC keyboard to create the pitch bend. I press the H key and then the 1 key and then I depress the H key. I do this in a separate track and then edit the result into the track in the position where I want the pitch bend to be. However, I have observed the following when I play that track:
    - The pitch bend lowers the tone by only one half tone.
    - However, I can make the pitch bend lower the tone a double half tone by opening any menu in Garageband using the left mouse key and just keeping that menu open for as long as the pitch bend lasts.
Does anyone understand what's going on?
I have Garageband '09 and I've just started using it.

  • Psycadelic, strange effects plugs?

Hello, all. I am looking for recomendations for  trippy, wierd even sci-fi'ish cs6 (prem or ae)compatible plugins. I have twitch and holomatrix, and am looking for other plugs of the abstract nature.
I'd like to replicate an old school psycadelic look ie tracers, wierd morphing, color washes etc. I know some of these things can me done manually through automation, but since I am still in the early stages of vfx, the easier the better hehe.
Thanks in advance for any info.
