Strange file permissions, I am being asked to authenticate when i own file

I cannot delete or move a file owned by me with read write permissions without entering password. Could anybody help me figure out why? I have verified and repaired permissions on my disk, file is owned by me in group staff, perms set to 644 and located in my home directory. I could easily enter my password but im curious why this file wont do as its told, any help would be grateful.

If you didn't want to fix your problem, why'd you ask?
There is more to permissions than the posix ones you see in Get Info. There are other restrictions in the form of ACLs which cause all sorts of problems if they get assigned where not needed.
You can view the ACLs along with the Posix permissions with this command:
ls -ale ~/
That will display everything in your home folder.
It sounds as though something is either denying your ability to delete from that folder, or the destination folder is preventing you from writing.

I found that right clicking on my hard drive, Get Info and under Sharing & Permissions when the Privilege was changed to Read & Write, the authentication pop ups stopped and I could drag pictures to my desktop and save attachments there also. Now my hubby and I will investigate the Names under S&P. We know one is System, another is him sharing. There is a third that says everyone so it will be the main one we research. I get the basics of what they are - to secure folders etc. from someone getting into my computer. I'm sure this is a pretty basic description of the issue so I guess if you read this and try any of this to stop the authentication, you should make sure you know what and why.

If you deleted all password in Thunderbrd and are not being asked for them that points straight at your anti virus program and it's "password vault" messing up. Try disabling email scanning in your internet security suite.

Application Server Control - Test Service asks to authenticate when Stress

OAS 10.1.3.4
When we go to test a Web Service and then select the Stress Test Option we get asked to authenticate to the application server when the Invoke button is selected. If I perform a stress test from BPEL Console for the same BPEL process there is no issue and it runs fine. This seems to happen in ASC for BPEL, ESB and Java Web Services.
Same problems on different servers, so doesn't look like a particular install issue.
Has anyone experienced the same behaviour or know of a workaround as we need to stress test more than just BPEL processes?

I think this is a normal behavior if you are not using SSO, because for every applicaiton you access you will have to enter username and password, but for BPEL console you have been already entered this password so it doesn't ask for it again because is like an internal object, but for EM console, you are accessing and external object that needs authentification.

Wireless Test Users being asked to authenticate to new ACS

Hi All,
I am nearing the final stages of an ACS Ver 5.3 deployment and everything is working as it should with the exception of our test wireless users.
Thus far I have:
Configured an "Identity store sequence" that consists of :
-acs internal db
-External radius server
This is called "VPNSequence"
I have also configured an Identity store sequence of :
-AD
-LDAP
This is called "Wireless Sequence"
I then configured the identity section of the "default network access" service.
I put a condition that will match the vpn access (for example "if network device belongs to the network device group called "VPN concentrators". The identity store used will be the sequence I created above ("VPNSequence").
I then created a second rule (for point 2) that will match wireless access (if network device belongs to WLC group for example) and that will use the sequence "WirelessSequence" as identity store.
I then created a Certification Authorisation Profile and applied it to the Wireless Sequence.
I then tested an XP laptop on a Test_WLAN wireless network that authenticates using the new ACS device - when it attempts to logon I get a message on the laptop stating that I have to "Click here to process your logon information ...". When I click on this it asks me to re-enter my AD password. (This occurs even when I remove the Certification Authorsiation Profile from the Wireless Sequence" described above. If I enter my credentials I connect no problem.
However, this is not ideal for a smooth transition from ACS 3.3 to ACS 5.3 for our Wireless End Users (numbering in the hundreds). They will no doubt bombard our helpdesk when this prompt appears for their wireless connectivity.
Is there anyway I can configure the ACS so that they make a transparent connection without the need to re-enter credentials?
Any help would be much appreciated - please let me know if you require further information.

Hi,
From your description it appears that you are using password based authentication -- PEAP, EAP-FAST. The certificate authentication profile is only required for EAP-TLS. Although it being there would not cause any issues.
For getting prompted on the laptops to enter the credentials, ensure that when you click on "configure" next to "secure password mschap v2"
the checkbox next to "Automatically use my windows credentials for login" is selected (not shown in this figure)

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

I want to VIEW pdf files when I click on them (NOT save them) WITHOUT being asked everytime. I have already customized my firefox settings.

I have a hotmail email account and each time I click on a pdf attachment, Firefox asks me "What should Firefox do with this file?" I click "Open with - Adobe Reader (default)" then I check-mark "DO THIS AUTOMATICALLY FOR FILES LIKE THIS FROM NOW ON." When I check-mark that box a little line comes up beneath it that says "Settings can be changed using the Applications tab in Firefox's Options." So I also changed my application settings to "PDF - Use Adobe Acrobat in Firefox". Even though I have changed the application settings, and have check-marked the little box asking it to open with adobe reader automatically, Firefox still asks me each time I click on a PDF "What should Firefox do with this file". How do I make it stick that every time I click on a pdf attachment I want to VIEW it in Adobe WITHOUT being asked every time? Is there a way? Thank you!!!

Automatic actions are connected to a specific MIME type and if Hotmail doesn't send the file with a correctly recognized MIME type then the automatic action won't work.

Strange file in Trash that just won't go away.

Since installing Snow Leopard, I have a strange file in the Trash that I can't get rid of. It appears to be a zero KB "Alias" file with "unknown" permissions. At first glance it looks as if it's called \\\Õ\\.Õ\ but the diagonal lines are actually the word "Nul" made up of a superscript 'N', a normal 'u' and a subscript 'l'- all in very small font size.
I can't drag it out of the Trash to see what it does. It's info window holds no clues, apart from the "unknown permissions" thing.
I have tried repairing permissions and have since upgraded to 10.6.1 and repaired them again.
Any suggestions on what this file is - and on how to lose it would be gratefully received.

Are you willing to use Terminal to try to eliminate that file? If so, launch Terminal, then type the commands below.
WARNING: In general, the "rm" command can be very dangerous. That's why the commands below (1) show what's there to be deleted and (2) ask for confirmation for each file to be deleted.
cd ~/.Trash
ls -a
file *
The "ls" command should show you three things: a single period, a double period, and your mystery file. The "file" command should show you the mystery file and an explanation of what type of file it is. If you're feeling nervous, you might want to mention here the reported type. If all is well so far, type this command
rm -i *
You should be prompted for deleting that file. If you like what you see, press the "y" key, then press the <return> key. If you see anything that makes you nervous, either (1) type control-c or (2) press the "n" key, then press the <return> key.
If the system refused to delete that file, then (if you're feeling brave), type this command:
sudo rm -i *
That command will prompt you for your administrative password, then prompt you to delete your mystery file. The same responses apply.

Trying to get access to files in the library. And the user is having permissions but when he clicked the file in the library he is being ask for an Infopath username and password.
A pop dialog box showing like

According to your post, my understanding is that access document in Library is being asking for an Infopath username and password.
Usually this error when the form is not connected to any of the data sources successfully. Please verify all the data connections are available or not.
I recommend to enable the options for Infopath Form Services to ensure that InfoPath 2010 is in online mode.
In addition, you can add your SharePoint server’s FQDN to your Trusted Sites or Intranet Sites zone and modify your registry settings for the WebClient service.

I have never had to enter a password to access mail. However, recently, I keep being asked for password on my ****** address. Only on my macbook. (which, btw, has a version number the drop down doesn't offer as a choice. I had to putt 9.4)

When I look up the account the "password" is a long string of gobbledygook. Something I would never do.
But when I attempt to use that pw I still can't get in.
I have no trouble accessing that email account on my mac mini. Just on the macbook.

I'm confess I'm still trying to get a handle on your problem. You do a fantastic job of describing it ... but I'm just trying to picture it accurately in my head.
I think, were I in your shoes, I'd begin by looking at what the debug page has to say for the specific destination in which you're interested in fixing. In other words, I'm not clear on where, exactly, this destination points ...

Is that your site, or the division within your site that you want to fix? "Normally", you do not need to specify a site handle to get to your site within your transfer CGI ... if you say "uillinois.edu", it's enough to transfer your users to iTunes U ... but every site still has a handle, and you could, if you wanted to, actually specify it in your transfer CGI. For example, this:

is for my entire site ... it's my site handle. Whereas this:

is for a division within my site ... but it's impossible to tell the difference between "site" and "division" from just the handle (I mean, if I didn't say "this is a site" and "this is a division", there'd be no way for you to know). So when I look at your creds and permissions on your debug page, I can't quite tell if they give you download access for your site, or for the specific division you want to fix. If you could open the debug page with your division as destination (or confirm that that's what we're looking at), it'd rule out some things.

Being asked for billing info even though I have gift card money.

This morning, I tried to buy a song on itunes and I got a message about billing info and a credit card that is about to expire. I thought it was strange because I have gift card money on itunes right now and I don't know why I was being asked to provide that information. So, as of now, I can't buy ANYTHING without that message popping up! HELP!

They verify the account and information using the cc.
It should still take the money out of the gift card, but you will very likely need to enter the information.

Strange file in trash that won't go away?

I have a strange file that appeared in my Trash the other day. I tried to empty the trash multiple times, but it won't go away. Secure empty trash doesn't help, as it just gets stuck. Double-clicking on the file, getting info on the file, or dragging the file out of the trash just results in the item disappearing, only to reappear shortly thereafter. Here is a screenshot of the filename, as it is very strange (I am posting it as a picture so there are no font issues):

I have no idea what's going on. I tried repairing permissions to no avail. Should I run a disk utility such as Techtool or Diskwarrior? Is this a virus? Could this be related to my weird Time Machine issues (where Time Machine will come up with an error, see below for picture)?

If there are several locked files in the Trash, you can unlock them all at the same time at the command line. Follow these steps:
1. Open Terminal. It's located in /Applications/Utilities.  Type: chflags -R nouchg  Note: Type one space (not pictured) after nouchg in the line above, so that it ends in "nouchg ". Do not press Return yet. 
2. Double-click the Trash icon in the Dock to reveal the contents of the Trash. If necessary, arrange the Finder window so that a portion of the Terminal window is still visible.
3. Press the Command-A key combination to select all files in the Trash.
4. Drag the files from the Trash to the Terminal window.  Note: This automatically enters the pathname for each file. This eliminates the need to individually empty multiple Trash directories, particularly when multiple disks or volumes are present. 
5. Press Return. No special text message will be shown indicating that the command was successful.
6. Empty the Trash.
If the Trash does not empty or if you see a message in Terminal that says "usage: chflags [-R [-H | -L | -P]] flags file..." you most likely did not type the text in step 2 as indicated or did not leave a space. Repeat the steps if this happens.
