Strange Finder non-responsive behavior.

Recently my Finder has started acting oddly: when I navigate to the absolute top level of the directory chain, i.e. the computer folder (mine is named Fenchurch, includes the HDD's and the Network folder), the window pretends to be unresponsive. I can't close it, I can't resize it, and more often than not it doesn't even display the contents; it either stays white or some sort of graphical jumble.
I say "pretends" because if i click a few times on a different folder in my sidebar, that folder loads perfectly fine in the same window. CMD+down also works to load my HDD folder, as if it was highlighted despite Finder not actually showing it as highlighted.
Sooo, what's the deal? Anyone run into this problem before?

  • In Yahoo email, I continually get "non-responsive script" and my system hangs so I can't do anything. Doesn't happen in IE.

This is an intermittent problem that seems to become worse as I continue a session in Yahoo email. I suddenly can't scroll, continue typing an email, or even switch to another site. A message window pops up that says a non-responsive script is running in the background and lists one of at least two different Yahoo mail client addresses at the bottom of the message. Sometimes responding to the message results in nothing but subsequent messages saying the same thing. The only thing I can do is close Firefox and open IE to continue with my emails. I don't remember the specific URLs.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • ITunes now becomes non-responsive when adding new music

    Hello.
For a few months now iTunes has gone from quick importing of new mp3 and m4a files from my desktop, down to very slow importing after a long pinwheel, and now finally the endless pinwheel whenever I add any files. (It can go on hours, and requires force quit).  My collection is large (50k files / 1TB or so), and the media sits on an external hard drive, but I have tried creating a new library from scratch on the desktop (and internal hard drive) and I still get the same endless pinwheel when adding just a few new files.  The only other clue I have is that when the importing slowness just started, a third party metatagging application I use (TuneUp) was not recognizing the newly imported files as having been imported by iTunes, whereas I did use iTunes to import.
I am loathe to create a new library altogether as I've done much editing within iTunes to my large collection.  (See this article: iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists - Apple Support)
I am using latest Yosemite version (10.10.2) on a 2011 Mac Mini with a recent SSD inside (iTunes worked fine after the SSD upgrade a year ago).
    Thanks for any help!

Start by removing "TuneUp." See whether there's an improvement.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

  • "non-responsive script" -- appears on screen/ extreme slows down or freeze/field can appear as many as 7 times each time i click on stop "non-responsive script"/each time the field returns immediately on screen.Frustrating!I dislike freeze or slow...

I researched the net and a lot of people are having the same problem, but did not find answers.
    1. I turn on the PC and experience very slow to open firefox.
    2. Then a field pops up "Non-responsive script may be what is slowing down your computer". There is computer language written in the field. In this field are 2 small fields to click on: "continue" or "stop script". I can click on stop or continue numerous times and no reaction. Then I click on close no reaction. Then finally it goes away only to pop back up as many as 6 or 7 times. It can occasionally take as long as 20 min. to open the browser. Other times the computer is just slowed down.

Couldn't possibly tell you - apart from not being a Mac user, there's far too little information here anyway. The only clue is that if you can open Audition okay, but playing a file doesn't happen, then it would appear that it can't connect to your audio device, although it's trying. Which sort-of implies that something else might be trying to use it exclusively. You need to find out what's going on with your system, I suspect - it doesn't particularly sound like it's an Audition problem per se.

  • 4620 all in one control panel non responsive

4620 all in one printer front control panel buttons non-responsive.  The panel shows information but nothing happens when pushing buttons.  So I can not copy, etc.  I can print from the computer which is directly hooked up.  The wireless light is on even though I don't use it.  I have tried unplugging with no luck.

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that the control panel display on your HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer is unresponsive. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. There is the chance that either a power issue or Firmware Programming issue is occuring within your product. Therefore, to start troubleshooting I am going to have you perform some standard hardware troubleshooting steps. Please follow the steps below.  Step 1: Check Power: Please plug your printer directly into a wall outlet for power. Power strips and surge protectors may cause your printer to lack power and not respond properly. Once your printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet please power it on. Next, please test the control panel buttons and Copy function to confirm that the issue is resolved. Should the issue persist, please proceed to the next step.    Step 2: Perform a Power Reset: Turn your printer ONWith the printer ON please disconnect the power cable from the rear of your printerLeave the power cable disconnected for 60 secondsAfter 60 seconds plug the power cable back inYour printer should start back up on its ownOnce your printer returns to the Ready state please test the control panel buttons and Copy function to confirm if the issue has been resolved. Should the issue persist please proceed.    Step 3: Update Firmware:  The Firmware is the internal Programming within your printer. Essentially, it is the 'brains' of your printer and controls what your printer does and how your printer does it. If the internal Firmware Programming is corrupted, it may cause performance issues within your printer. Therefore, I would like you to run the latest Firmware Update for your printer. However, before I am able to provide you with the correct Firmware Update to run I do need to know what Operating System you're using on your computer. Once I find out what Operating System you're using I will provide the latest Firmware Update for you to download and 'send' to your printer.   Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Should the issue persist, be sure to include your Operating System in your response. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • Strange multiply blend mode behavior.

    Hi,
i am working on a project and i am surprised to find a strange multiply blend mode behavior.
When i open a new blank document to try again the multiply behavior, all seems to work well.
Is it possible that the document i am working on became corrupted ?
    I work on a 2012 Macbook Pro Retina 15", Mac OS X 10.8.5 and Photoshop CC 14.1.2.
This is what i see :
    - Normal blen mode.
    - Multiply blend mode.
    Thank you for the help
    Regards.

Ok, i found the solution by chance but it raises new questions.
I stayed on the same document (because i thought that it could be corrupted) but made all the layers invisibles.
I created a first Color Fill layer filled with 50% grey (as background) and just above an other Color Fill layer filled with white (as white paint).
So i masked all the white color fill layer and just made 2 stokes.
In normal mode, i got this which is normal.
So, i chose the multiply blend mode and got this (which is again normal).
P.S. : i am writing the end of the post in a second post because i am having problem to post screenshot...

  • Mavericks won't install, the button in App Store is blank and non-responsive.

This is extremely frustrating, and I have read every website trying to answer this issue. None of their problems match mine.
I tried to download Mavericks yesterday. It appeared to download as normal, with the icon in launch pad, but the progress bar never moved. I cancelled the download, and tried to restart it. The download button is non-responsive. I've tried going to the store tab, clicking unfinished downloads, and it says all downloads are complete.
When I go to purchases, Mavericks is listed under "other downloads," but the button is solid black with no text, e.g. download or install, and is non-responsive. Clicking the button does nothing.
I have tried using CCleaner to clean the app store's cache, restarting the computer with a full shutdown, quitting and restarting App Store, etc. Nothing works.
If I close and reopen App Store after a full shut down, Mavericks will disappear from the purchases menu. If I go to Mavericks, click "free upgrade," then button changes to "install." When I click install, nothing happens. Mavericks reappears under the purchases menu with its button, again, completely black with no text. The button is non-responsive.
Having a $2,500 Mac, I have to say that I am extraordinarily upset with the shoddy work of Apple over the past few years. For $2,500 I expect the product to work.

Actually, it appears to have started downloading, even the the purchases tab still doesn't reflect it.
Try what I did, typing "sudo nvram boot-args="-x"" (include the quotations around the -x), and then entering your account password.
Reboot the system, which will cause it to do a full reboot (you'll find your mac operates very slowly). Log into your account, then try hitting "free upgrade" and "download" from the Mavericks page in app store (not the purchases tab). It will ask you for your Apple ID and password, then it *should* automatically take you to launch pad.
If the download doesn't seem to be progressing, press the icon in launch pad to pause it. Exit launch pad and scroll down in App Store to 'free apps" on the right side. Click to download one of them, enter your password and Apple ID as usual, and see if it downloads. Once finished, hit the Mavericks icon again to unpause it. It should start then. It's clearly a very large install, so over the past thirty minuites the progress bar has moved roughly a milimeter.

  • Home Hub v1 non-responsive user interface

I haven't used the home hub for a couple of years, but because of ongoing IP profile problems I've got it out of storage to use in place of my Draytek 2600.
Using the internet works fine, but more often than not when I'm trying to configure application sharing, or fixed IP addresses, etc. the hub user interface just freezes and won't respond.  Only solution is to turn the hub off and back on.
Is there a fix to this problem of a non-responsive hub user interface?

    Yes, I believe it's a Hub 1.0.  It's white, and very old.

What software version is it currently on? If its been in storage it probably has not been updated.
It says firmware version 6.2.2.6.  Is that the latest?
No, but it's the last version that allowed telnet access. Mine's locked to that version for that reason.
I do find the browser interface sluggish at times, but I don't use it much as the telnet/CLI allows for much more control and configuration.

  • IMac OS X, iPhoto permanently non responsive after attempted download.

I was downloading about 20 photos and 3 vidios from memory card using the iMac slot.  After selecting download for all the new images iPhoto became non responsive and required a force quit.  iPhoto now goes non responsive (after about 10 to 15 seconds) every time I start it.  The event that would have been created by the download shows but appears to be empty.  If there was some way I could delete this event I'm thinking (guessing)  it might fix the problem, but have been unable to find a way outside of iPhoto.   Thanks in advance for any suggestions.   OS X 10.6.8  iPhoto 8.1.2

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Messages loads in 10.10.1 then goes non responsive

After the 10.10.1 update, Messages will load but then immediately goes into the spinning beachball of non-responsiveness causing me to force quit.
What I've tried so far to resolve this:
    1. Logging out and back on to iCloud
    2. Ctrl-Alt-P-R on restart in case it was a PRAM issue
    3. Restore via Time Machine backup (not allowed due to the deep integration of Messages in Yosemite)
    4. Re-installing Yosemite
Unfortunately I haven't discovered a way to remove Messages off my HD and try reinstalling.
    Cheers

    Back up all data.
Quit Messages if it’s running. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it and test after each of the following steps. If the problem isn't resolved, quit again and go on to the next step.
    Step 1
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
    If the box marked
              Keep login keychain unlocked
    is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain.
From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select My Certificates. Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them is marked with a red "X" as expired or invalid, delete it. Also delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name, whether valid or not.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ Certificates
There are three menus in the window. Change the selection in the top two to Best attempt, and in the bottom one to  CRL.
Log out and log back in.
    Step 2
Hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (some may not exist):
              Containers/com.apple.corerecents.recentsd
              Caches/com.apple.Messages
              Caches/com.apple.imfoundation.IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent
              Containers/com.apple.iChat
              Containers/com.apple.soagent
              IdentityServices
Leave the Library folder open. Log out and log back in.
    Step 3
Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
              Messages
Note: you are not moving the Messages application. You’re moving a folder named “Messages.”
If Messages now works, delete the Messages folder on the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Messages again. Put back the folder you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place.
    Step 4
In the Preferences subfolder, there may be several files having names that begin with any of the following strings:
              com.apple.iChat
              com.apple.ids
              com.apple.imdsmsrecordstore
              com.apple.imessage
              com.apple.imservice
Move them all to the Desktop. There may also be a file with the name "com.apple.imagent.plist". Move that to the Trash.
Also in the Preferences folder, there's a subfolder named "ByHost". Open it and do the same thing.
Log out and log back in. Test again. This time Messages should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. You may be able to put back some of the files you moved to the Desktop in this step. Relaunch and test after each one. Eventually you should find one or more that causes Messages to malfunction. Delete those files and recreate whatever settings they contained.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Messages again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash. Stop here and post your results.
If you later decide that you don’t like the results of Steps 3 and 4, you can undo them completely by quitting Messages and restoring the items you deleted in those steps from your backup.
