Strange font behaviour in info / report windows

i've had this problem for a long time and i'm ready to fix it now. whenever i get an info or report window in a programme like xACT or justabout anywhere, the font looks very strange. at first i thought it was going vertical but now i realise it is one character to a column, two columns to a window. it looks something like this ...
T H
I S
I S
W A
T I
T L
O O
K S
L I
K E
(except that the right column is perfectly aligned, and halfway across the window).
i don't know what font it is, how to find what it is, or if it has somehow been corrupted. if i select all and past it into a text edit document then it reads fine.
has anyone experienced this before & how can i correct it ?
thanks,
mark

Hi Doug --
If you are positive it's the Curlz font,
don't just disable it. Locate it via "Find" or Spotlight.
Put it in the trash.
Restart your Mac and test again.

  • Strange font behaviour

    Hi list,
    recently I encountered strange behaviour of some fonts (type
    1) in FreeHand (11.02, Mac 10.3.9)
    Some characters don't display (neither on screen nor in
    print). For instance, I can't type the euro sign in Scala. When I
    use the same font in Indesign or Illustrator all is well.
    Anybody ever had the same problem?
    What can be done about it?
    TIA
    Willem van den Goorbergh

    The Font Suitcase file contains bitmap (screen resolution) representations of all the associated varieties of that typeface, whereas the Postscript Outline files contain vector data, telling the printer how to output the characters.
    Quark 6.5 can function with only the bitmap representations, as long as you don't try to print the file.
    The bitmap is used to display the characters on screen (screen resolution is very low compared to print resolution). However, when you try to print to a Postscript printer (or make a PDF file), Quark sends the linked Postscript Outline vector data. This allows the output device to use the best possible resolution it can produce.
    It seems that with Quark 7, they've decided to have the program detect the Outline fonts when a document is opened, rather than when you try to print - to prevent people from using typefaces then cannot use for output.
    Postsript fonts are a real pain-in-the-neck, since it's easy to separate the Outline file from the suitcase file. The newer OpenType format looks like it could solve a lot of problems.

  • Strange font behaviour when printing from PDF

    Hi - hoping someone can shed some light as I've been going slightly crazy trying to figure out what's happening.
    I'm working on a Mac. I'm using the .ttf fonts of the Oswald family - obtained from Google fonts (and various other sources to rule out corrupt files).
    When exporting the PDF from InDesign and printing it myself, there are no issues. When I send the PDF to others on a Windows machine, it prints fine.
    When sending the PDF to my client (always the way) some of the font characters are, well, nudged down half way almost, out of alignment. It only happens on some characters, not all.
    We only discovered this before submitting an ad to the printers, and for safety's sake, I converted all the text to outlines. Ok for now, however not a long term solution as we need to be able to use this font for live situations.
    Has anyone experienced this before? Or perhaps can anyone suggest a workaround? I have to use TTF fonts as a 3rd party company who are working on some dynamic brochures have requested it.
    I'm literally at a loss.
    Thanks in advance.

    Well I can give you what I did to get around the problem.  I am running Adobe X pro on windows 7.
    1.  The print job in queue, cancel it so that it is deleted.  You now should have no jobs pending.
    2.  Go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers(Win7) or just the printer and devices for your OS.  Yes this must be done with Admin privilages.
    3.  Go to Printer Properties for the Adobe PDF printer.
    4.  Select the ports tab.  Mine was on Com3.
    5.  Select Add a Port and call it Adobe Printer or something.
    6.  Select the check box and select apply.
    You should now print with no errors.
    -G
    Yes I am aware this has been a year, but this has happened over several versions.

  • Strange 9i behaviour on scheduled report

    Windows 2000 server, 9ias RL 2, patches applied according Note 215882.1.
    I have a report that used to run well in 6i (9ias RL1). It is a scheduled report. It takes current (system) month and year as parameters. In the After-Report-Trigger I run the same report using srw.run_report and replace current month with previous month.
    Desformat=PDF, Destype=file, desname is generated dynamically depending on parameter value (e.g. monthly_orders_2003_10.pdf and monthly_orders_2003_09.pdf).
    In 9i, the same report only returns the pdf output for the previous month (monthly_orders_2003_09.pdf) in the specified directory, but not for the current.
    To make this more confusing: Both outputs (current month and previous month) are stored in the cache directory with randomly generated names (e.g. 41831406.pdf and 49155045.pdf).
    Any hints are deeply appreciated.
    Gerald Krieger

    Theoritically this should reproduce even without scheduling ie in a client-server non-scheduled run.
    1) Please see whether the child output is generated anywhere in REPORTS_PATH ( registry var in HKLM\software\oracle\Homex in Windows and env var in Unix ).
    2) In srw.run_report() give full path name if child report and try
    If it still does not work then it may be a bug. Please raise a TAR ( Technical Assistance Request ) with Oracle Support. If the issue is already fixed after 9.0.2.2 you can get a patch.

  • Really strange Font behaviour - variants missing

    Hi,
    I'd really appreciate any help.
    I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.4.6. I occasionally need to do some work on Quark Xpress.
    One of my documents uses a font called Berling. Under Quark XPress 6.5, I installed the font in the font book and all was well.
    Upgraded to Quark 7 - suddenly same document can't find Berling Bold or Berling Italic.
    Testing to see what the issue is, I took out Quark 7, reinstalled 6.5 and all was fine again.
    Looked in Font Book and it only showed 1 subset of Berling - Berling Roman. When I click on Berling though and select validate, all the subsets show up as working - but they are not visible in the Font Book Application. If I delete Berling and double click the Berling FFil to reinstall, Font Book only shows Roman as the only available variant of Berling. If I install this, Roman is all I can see, unless I click validate - which shows all the variants.
    Quark 7 seems to think Berling Roman is the font and that there are no variations.
    Does anybody have any idea why this would be happening?
    cheers

  • Strange pagination behaviour on detail report (BUG?)

    Hi
    I've the following situation:
    Form on a table and below an sql report based on value of one of form fields. Everything is fine as long, as I use form's primary key for the report, but when I use any other field, pagination breaks - going to the next report page gives "no data found" in the report region. However, where I refresh entire page, I see the next page just fine.
    Case:
    create table master (id number primary key, num2 number, data varchar2(10));
    create table detail (id number primary key, parent number);
    insert into master values(1,1,'aaa');
    insert into detail values (1,1);
    insert into detail values (2,1);
    insert into detail values (3,1);
    insert into detail values (4,1);
    insert into detail values (5,1);
    insert into detail values (6,1);
    insert into detail values (7,1);
    insert into detail values (8,1);
    insert into detail values (9,1);
    insert into detail values (10,1);
    insert into detail values (11,1);
    insert into detail values (12,1);
    insert into detail values (13,1);
    insert into detail values (14,1);
    insert into detail values (15,1);
    insert into detail values (16,1);
    insert into detail values (17,1);
    insert into detail values (18,1);
    insert into detail values (19,1);
    commit;
    Create a form on master table with defaults on everything and ID as primary key (my is sequence based, but it doesn't matter)
    The report code is:
    select * from detail where parent=:P22_ID
    and everything works fine - report pagination works. But if I change the code to
    select * from detail where parent=:P22_NUM2
    Pagination breaks :/ Clicking next gives "no data found", entire page refresh shows report page 2
    Changing "Enable partial page refresh" doesn't help
    Any suggestions?
    Martin

    Answering my own question...
    After doing some more digging I've found that on full page refresh all bind variables work, on "next" report page however only form's primary key is set, and all other page variables are nulls, so if the report's pagination is to work, it can't use anything else
    Anyone knows is this a bug, or a feature??

  • Strange JFRAME behaviour under Jdk 1.5

    I have the following extracted code :
    import java.util.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.border.*;
    import java.awt.geom.*;
    public class DrawPie extends JFrame{
         private HashMap ColourMap=new HashMap();;
         private HashMap DataMap=new HashMap();
         private double Total_Val=0;
         private int startAngle=0;
         private int arcAngle=0;
         public DrawPie(HashMap DataMap){
         super ("Pie Chart Analysis");
              this.DataMap=DataMap;
         //     System.out.println("DATAMap-->"+DataMap);
         // getContentPane().setBackground(Color.white);
              setSize(500,500);
              setVisible(true);
         public void paint(Graphics g){
              super.paint (g);
              Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g;
              DrawPieChart(g);
    This programme work fine under jdk1.4.2 or below at the time when the Jframe or windows is resized or icon minimised or maximised.
    But when it was compiled using latest jdk1.5 , unexpected strange result happen , the pie chart draw using java 2d
    g2.fill(new Arc2D.Double(30, 30, 200,200,startAngle,arcAngle
    , Arc2D.PIE));
    wil behaved strangely, the moment the JFrame or windows is resize or dragged.
    The pie chart will disappear if the windows is resized , However if the window is minimised and restore back to normal size , pie chart will reappear and subsequently lost completely if the windows is dragged resulted in the size changes.
    I was puzzled by this strange swing behaviour , any resized or windows minimise or maximise would not result in the lost of pie chart as long as the jdk is not 1.5 ! Was it due to swing fundamental changes incorporated in the latest release?
    Any suggestion?
    Thank

    ok I see what you have done,
    now a few tips in drawing something on your frame:
    never override the paint method of your main Frame (like you did)
    to draw something on it you simply override the contentPane's paint method
    and to make your own contentPane you simply make one by making a new Class
    that extends say JPanel and assign it as a contentPane of your Frame(like I did)
    And in this Paint method you can draw whatever you like it will be properly uptated!!!
    All the best keep up the good work!
    ps. try the code bellow.
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class DrawPie1 extends JFrame {
    private double Total_Val=0;
    private int startAngle=0;
    private int arcAngle=0;
    private MyMainPanel mainPan;
    public DrawPie1()
    super ("Pie Chart Analysis");
    mainPan = new MyMainPanel();
    setContentPane(mainPan);
    //public void paint(Graphics g) //Do not override the paint method of your main frame!!
    // super.paint (g);
    // Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g;
    // g2.setPaint(Color.red);
    // g2.fill(new Arc2D.Double(30, 30, 200,200,0,78
    // , Arc2D.PIE));
    public static void main(String args[])
    DrawPie1 pie=new DrawPie1();
    pie.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
    pie.setSize(400,300);
    pie.setVisible(true);
    //**** Second Class
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.geom.Arc2D;
    public class MyMainPanel extends JPanel
    public MyMainPanel()
    public void paint(Graphics g)
    super.paint (g);
    Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g;
    g2.setPaint(Color.red);

  • Font behaviour in iWeb2

    After upgrading my website to iWeb2.02 I have strange font behaviour when I look at the website with a browser.
    The fonts are nothing special (arial) but I've been playing around with the new widgets which seems to have messed up some of the HTML code. I removed as much of the widget code as I could find but no improvement.
    I've seen several questions on this matter in this discussion group, but no answers that would resolve it.
    Look at the difference between these 2 pages:
    http://www.labscores.com/LabScores/home.html (problem example)
    http://www.labscores.com/LabScores/LabSuite.html (page that still looks OK)
    Any suggestions or help is appreciated.
    Peter

    Solved the issue, just posting to help others:
    iWeb2 apparently has a different way of storing all images etc. on a page.
    (this problem was with a website that was published to a folder, then uploaded to the proper location).
    After uploading the entire website again (including all subfolders, images, CSS files etc) everything looked back to normal again.
    I will be bringing back in the HTML widgets to see if I still need iWeb Enhancer and Tag to include the codes for statistics etc and will keep you posted.

  • Osx lion get info reporting incorrect file size

    Hi all,
    I am trying to troubleshoot a strange problem I am having with Adobe Revel. Adobe have been helping me to resolve it but my mac is displaying some odd behaviour which I need to explain and which may be affecting the adobe app.
    The adobe app creates a library file of pictures and the file should be growing as I download more pictures. If I right click on the folder and "Get info" the folder size shown is smaller than I would expect at 25MB given that it should contain a good number of Jpeg files.
    I have downloaded an app called "Grand Perspective" to help me manage disk space and for this particular file it reports a completely different (much Larger) file size than "Get Info" did (155 MB) which is much closer to what I would expect to find and it is growing as more pictures are downloaded.
    Any idea what could cause "Get Info" to report the wrong file size.
    I have another osx Lion mac with the same software loaded and although a completely different machine, it reports the same file size for this library folder as grand perspective does.
    Any help gratefully accepted.
    Slarti

    I'm finding the same behaviour running Lion 10.7.2 and the file with the exact same problem as yours is a Sente (bibliography software) library containing references and pdfs.  'Get Info' reports it as 130KB but I know the file is much much larger than that! Even the Size reported on Get Info shows 874.4MB which is still too small.  If I 'Show Package Contents' on the file and 'Get Info' on the 'Contents' folder which it then shows, I get the correct size of 1.14GB
    Apple Tech Support over the phone wasn't able to explain this behaviour.

  • Strange Fonts in labview graph's plot legend.

    Hello All,
        I am running labview 7.1 on a Windows XP machine and
    the default and only language is English (US). Verified this under
    Control Panel > Regional Settings.
        When I run a VI, I get strange fonts in the plot
    legend. They keep updating as the VI runs. Here is a screen shot of the
    plot legend:
    I change the font to something I can read, save the VI and run it again
    and it automatically changes to this unreadable font again. Any ideas
    on what I can do? Thanks.

    Is it just the font that is off, or are these actually non-printable characters?

  • Font for photo info does not work on this MAC

    We are running a new MAC (OS 10.6.2, 2.66 GHz Quad) with Lightroom 2.6.  When I try to add photo data to a contact print, I see a series of boxes with AAAs.  I got the same result with the Identy Plate when I changed the font.  I changed to another font and it was fine.  This leads me to believe the default font for photo info is not supported on this machine.  We really need to use the photo info feature.  Is there a way to either
    1.  Change the font to one that is supported on this machine
    2.  Add the default font to this machine

    Considering the hundreds of thousands of Windows apps available, I doubt you're going to find such a list.
    Is there a comprehensive list posted somewhere that show which PC software has compatibity issues?
    Well since Windows software does not run on Mac OS, every application is going to have compatibility issues.
    You'll either have to buy the Mac version (if available) of the software you want to use, or install Windows on the Mac.

  • Font not displaying on Reports Output (RHEL 5) for 10g

    Hi, I know I've posted a question in the past about a font not displaying on Report Output for my Arial, Arial Narrow, and Courier New fonts. I worked with Oracle Support and found that Metalink Note#261879.1 fixed my problem with those 3 fonts. I ran the scripts and now that part works great.
    However, I have one font "ARIALUNI.TTF" that will not work. This is out specific barcode font we use. I've pushed it on Linux from my Windows by pushing it as a binary file to the ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/tk/admin/TTF directory. I even put it in the directory for TTF on Metalink Notoe 261829.1 and let it create the files, but it still doesn't find it when I ran a report that uses this font.
    I tried using font subsetting via the uiprint.ali and make a reference but it still doesn't seem to work.
    Is there something I'm missing that would cause any of these not to work. I thought maybe some files had to be created under the guicommon/tk/admin/AFM file directory but I'm not sure.
    I just want to have my 2 or 3 reports that use this barcode to work. Once I get them, I'm done and all my font issues are resolved. Any help is appreciated.
    Chris

    They are probably a very old Type 1 font. Try checking the dates on the font files. Your best bet would be to get the OpenType versions of those fonts and install them.

  • Strange JTable behaviour - everything is highlighted

    Hello all,
    im experiencing some strange JTable behaviour, and im not so sure why. When i run my program, the JTable appears, but all the cells are highlighted in advance. Also, i can now only select one cell at a time. I have set myTable.setSelectionModeListSelectionModel.SINGLE_INTERVAL_SELECTION);  myTable.setCellSelectionEnabled(true);and my renderer code is below. I call the renderer by using the setDefaultRenderer method with(Object.class,myRenderer).
    I have also changed isCellEditable to return true. If i dont use Object.class, and try to use my own custom class, the JTable is not all highlighted, but it doesnt seem to use myRenderer, and when i click on the header of Column A, all cells from column B and beyond become highlight, which is not normal behaviour. I thought the colum you selected should be highlighted.
    Sorry for the long post, i hope the above makes sense...this is really quite bizzare, and im not so sure why this is happening. Thanks for any advice you can give, regards, Rupz

    Hi VV!
    thanks for the reply - now the table isnt all highlight when loaded, but as for cell celection..thats a different matter. I did have myTable.setCellSelectionEnabled(true); but no, the cell behaviour is really, eally weird, quite hard to explain, but here goes.
    If i try to select cell D1 and D2 - D1 is selected, D2, E2,F2 and so on become selected. If i try to add D3 to the mix, the entire row 3 is selected, and as soon as i let go of the mouse button, the entire table except row 1 gets selected. really really weird. Below is my tableModel and what i do to the table. Thanks for your help,

  • Adobe Type 1 Font is not compatible with Windows 8 64bit?

    I found that Adobe Type 1 fonts are not compatible with applications that run on Windows 8 64bit. When used, the appearance of fonts on the screen is not correct. Even worse, the font does not appear at all in the CorelDRAW X6. Strangely, when printed, the fonts were no problems. How can I make these fonts can be used in Windows 8 64bit? For additional information, these fonts appear normally when reviewed through the Windows Fonts folder, but does not display correctly when used in the application.

    I believe I have a similar issue. I do have the latest Windows updates.
    I'm on a new Win8 system, and I installed my Adobe type collection (bought years ago with ATM) by copying the .pfm and .pfb files to Windows\Fonts (there's no right-click > install for fonts on Win8 it seems; copying the font files to the font directory is what I've read as the install procedure.)
    Windows then shows an error about .pfb incompatibility, so I selected "skip" for those files.
    The result is that my fonts are installed and usable BUT this really screws up IE10 for certain websites. For example, I get blank pages for sites like wordpress.org and validator.w3.org. There doesn't seem to be any way to fix this other than doing a system restore to a point before the fonts were installed. Removing the font files from the Windows\Font directory doesn't help. I don't use IE10 with any regularity but I need it to work for testing purposes.
    Is there a way to install these fonts? Is there a way to uninstall them (other than a system restore) if they affect IE10?
    It's really hard to install on a one-by-one basis as need arises because I can't tell what the font names are from the file names. There's no application, like a type viewer, that will show me the fonts if I double click the file. (I just ran into this now... I need to use a Garamond type face but have no idea which one it is by looking at the .pfm and .pfb files.)
    I would consider buying Font Folio if this is the answer but it's only available for a minimum of 5 licenses? I'm a freelancer and only need one licence.
    Should I just use an online tool to convert my .pfm/.pfb files to an OpenType or similar format?
    Thank you in advance!

  • Right side menu too small font size of letters in Windows 8.1 High DPI screen

    Hi, I just own a new laptop with Windows 8.1 and high resolution screen.
    When I start Adobe Reader, the document area seems to be readable, with "normal size fonts", but the options menú in the right side uses a very small fonts size and is hardly readable.
    I tried to change it using the Windows "change menu, title, icons size, but withpout success.
    Any solution for it?
    By the way, in a Lenovo Ideapad U430 Touch, there is not "magnyfying glass" combination key and the zoom function of the touch screen doesn't work either in that right side menu área (it works in the document area, not in the right side menu area).
    Any help will be welcomed.
    Thanks.

    Hi, Pat, test done.
    Thanks for your suggestion, it was somehow helpful, or, let say, half and half.
    It was helpful in the way that when I opened the preferences Windows I was not able to see the full window, there was a part of the right side of the window that was out of the screen. So, when I changed the "scaling settings options and behaviour" from "Auto" (default value) to 100% everything was in the display.... So, this was of high help.
    BUT I was not able to find any way in all the suggested document for making the fonts used in the right window of the Adobe Reader, the one where the "Tools" and "Comments" menus are displayed more readable, bigger size, than the one that the product uses by default in the High DPI display.
    So, thanks for the suggested document that helped to solve the first point.
    BUT
    Any other idea that could help for changing the fonts used in the "Tools" or "Comments" menu window?
    Thanks and kind regards.
