Strange Font issue - Adobe reader

Hi All,
First off - Thank you for your help.
I have a strange issue with Adobe Reader where the font is not correctly displayed correctly as compared to the original document. Document diplays in a strange font as per attachment.
I have removed and re-installed Adobe reader. Updated Reader to a newer version. Installed Adobe pro (licenced) and as a last resort - removed and updated local display drivers.
Issue remains as per attached image.
Is this due to embedded fonts? How do i fix this?  Re-imaging the machine is no go at this point.
Please help!
Thank You,
L+G_Guy

Look at file > document properties > fonts and see if any are listed without the word "embedded" or "embedded subset" against them.
If a font isn't embedded and isn't available on your system, Adobe Reader will try and substitute another one - but it often looks strange. Aside from that without seeing the actual file we can't help, and of course Adobe Reader can't fix missing fonts; you have to either recreate the original PDF, or install the fonts on your computer.

  • Strange FONT in Adobe Reader 9 with Windows 7

If a pdf was made from a word document or anything other than a scan the font is very strange, not default arial (see attached picture).  I had this problem in reader X adn downgraded adn still have the problem.  WHen this document is opened in gogle docs or on another computer the font is arial.  Thanks for your help.

I have the same issue in multiple documents on Windows 7 with Adobe Reader X 10.1.0.  Multiple others on my team can open the same files and do not have the issue.  I have done a terse check and we have similar installed programs, etc.
Since I am not creating the documents, I have no control over how they are created.  Also, I seem to have the issue on my computer and others do not.
Is there any way to troubleshoot font substitutions?  Is there any way to verify fonts?  Certainly I can see some fonts are not embedded in a sample I have, but I cannot see any way to know what font was specified and which was picked.  If I could find out that, I may delete the strangely spaced one so a better choice is picked.  It picks this odd font for what should be Arial...I think...but I am not sure. On this one sample doc I was able to get the creator to embed all fonts and it looks correct on my machine.  However the previous version without embedded fonts shows like this:
Here is what it should look like:
Both version look fine on other machines.
Properties on bad font substitution version (I expect the circled are the issue):
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Re: Downloading fonts for Adobe Reader XI

I was attempting to open a document that I downloaded last night, and it said that I had to download upgraded fonts for Adobe Reader XI, and when I tried to it didn't work.

What is the exact message you are getting?  "upgraded fonts" does not mean anything to me.

  • Missing fonts in Adobe Reader for Pocket PC

Hi, I recently installed the Adobe Reader 2.0 on my pocket PC and found that on my documents where bullet points are used it starts to complaint that it misses the font WingDings. I have installed the WinDings font in the Windows\Font directory, but it was not the solution for the problem
Any suggestions as to how this can be resolved?
It seems just a silly small issue, but I'm worlking on site with customers using my PocketPC for documentation and I just get driven nuts as I have to close every time the pop-up box alerting me that the font is missing!!
    Any help is appriciated.

    >>> Our techs have been using the HTC Blueangel (Same as the I-Mate pictured on your site), and although the image rendered by Adobe Reader was quite sharp, the size of the screen meant you were continually zooming in and out of pages to find the appropriate parts. So weve chosen the HTC X7500 as a replacement because of its 5 screen (amongst other reasons). <<
Ho Kay... have looked at the file and, based on the general layout (drawings with part# references) don't think you can get there from here.
Back to the basic goal, a couple of thoughts based on the assumption that your company is generating these pdf's and needs pda access to them.
Perhaps the part# references can be hyperlinked so the tech could tap the part# on the image and go to a table entry with all of the info on that specific part.
In that case, html would be a better format for navigation since, afaik, there does not seem to be a <back> button in reader.

  • Changing Font in Adobe reader?

I was doing some pages, in which I can enter the information. The problem when I got to some of the places, is the font was to large in adobe reader? I looked at preferences and could not find any area to change the size of font, so it would fit properly?
Appreciate any help. This is adobe reader 8.1.2
    thanks Bruce

Adobe Reader is used for displaying PDF files. PDF files are intended to be an accurate representation of the original document so changing font size isn't normally a feature of PDF readers.
You're probably thinking of EPUB or Kindle files. EPUB readers and Kindles let you change font size.
In a PDF, you need to zoom in on the text to view it larger. Use the normal way of doing it on an iPad: Spreading your fingers on the screen increases your zoom magnification. Closing your fingers on the screen decreases your magnification.

  • Mail Version 7.1 (1827) Export as PDF... issue Adobe Reader XI Version 11.0.04

This is the issue I'm having when I export my Mail message as PDFs and try to read them in Adobe Reader XI Version 11.0.04.
The line of text is cut in half by the page break.  I don't know how to fix this.  Can you help me, please?
MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

    Hi
No, it's not an antivirus software, because same thing happens in clean windows 7 system (without any antivirus or other specific software). And like I said, it started with version 11.0.04 - earlier versions are OK.
Also not only IE plugin files are gone after first restart but also Adobe Reader shortcut in Start Menu. Adobe Reader itself is working.
After first restart and repairing Adobe Reader installation - these files are not being deleted any more. It is not helping if I do repair after installation and before first restart. The thing is, only first restart after installation always deletes these files.
I looked everywhere in Windows (registry, startup, scheduled tasks) where might be some clue what is deleteing these files - didn't find anything.

  • Strange bug in Adobe Reader X

While I was still using Adobe Reader X, the following problem has occured, more than once: I was reading an ebook, and as I was reading, I was selecting text and scrolling down (the text was deselected automatically, it seems), reading again then selecting text and scrolling down (so the text I was reading would have always been in the center of the screen). And after a while, Adobe Reader stops responding, it's menu and toolbars remain with no icon and no text, only that shade of gray the bars are drawn, is drawn on the menu bar, toolbar, and the view draws the text (of the document) awfully. Because this problem did not get solved in Adobe Reader 10.1 and I need to read ebooks, I have returned to Adobe Reader 9.4.

I have a similar issue, the update to 10.1.0 didn't help. Maybe it's to do with being a 64bit system or it's my Intel graphics driver. Going back to reader 9.4...
Scrolling while selecting corrupts the screen, then if the PDF is large (a few megs), the reader will crash after a couple of operations more.
    OMG...

  • I received a pdf attachment and it prints as garbage fonts from adobe reader. It is ok when I use Apple's preview though. I need a fix.

HP (my printer) sent me to apple and Apple tried and then sent me to adobe, but adobe doesn't help people unless they pay for it. Can anyone out there figure this out. It's just one pdf doc so far. All the other things I print are fine. example attached. I think.....

As touching a PDF with Preview can / does do the ugly to PDF get a replacement PDF.
Keep it away from Preview (always).
Ensure you've visited the web site of the manufacturer of the printer and downloaded the most recent software/drivers for your OS.
Have a fully updated Adobe Reader XI installed. Launch it then do "file-open" and open the PDF and go from there.
    Be well...

  • Cable modem issue/adobe reader issue

    1. I have a PB G3 (bronze keyboard) and cannot connect to the internet using a comcast cable modem. BUT if I route the modem thru a wireless router and then plug my ethernet into that I have no problems what-so-ever. The big question is WHY? I would like to ditch the wireless router, if possible.
    2. I cannot download Adober Reader 5.0 to my computer. I am running OS 9.2.2 it says it has downloaded and then when I go to install it gets part way through and then stops, doesn't say anything but doesn't continue downloading....

    Megan,
    Welcome to the Discussions!
If the file has downloaded successfully to your desktop or wherever you have designated your download folder, you should see a file named 'rdrweb.sit'. Double-click on it to decompress and you should see an icon named Acrobat Reader Installer. Now quit all applications, restart while pressing the shift key and release when you see 'extensions off' under the Mac logo. Find the Acrobat Installer and double-click on it to install. You may have an extension conflict preventing the installation...just restart when done.
If you still have a problem, find all versions, if any, of Acrobat Reader already installed, drag them to the trash, then try the install again.
If still having problems, run Disk First Aid and also rebuild your desktop file:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=10182
Regarding the cable modem - what are your settings for:
AppleTalk (should be set to Ethernet)
TCP/IP (should be set to Ethernet and Using DHCP Server)
The above settings are what some DSL and cable modem companies use. Give it a try; if unsuccessful, call Comcast.

  • Strange font issue. Fonts other than my default fonts set in preferences are being used. How can this be fixed?

Fonts that should be showing up as Helvetica are showing up as Wubble. In my preferences/content I have my Proportional: Serif; Serif: Times; Sans-Serif: Helvetica; and Monospace: Courier. Everything was fine until I upgraded to 6.

  • Strange font issue

I am having a problem with one font. It will not print in inDesign. It will print in all my other applications (textEdit, Pages, NeoOffice), so I don't think it is corrupted font or a driver issue.
I trashed the plist and adobefnt.lists, reset permissions, but to no avail.
It did print before, but now shows up as a generic font.
When I tried a new document, it still will not print. (Ruling out a corrupted file).
While it looks like there is something goofy in inDesign...I have had a similar problem with a bar code font not printing in Filemaker Pro. Again the font works with every other app I have tried.

Since you don't mention which font, what type of printer or what version of InDesign it's rather difficult to hazzard a guess.
Your best bet will be the Adobe Forum, but in the meantime: Have you run the Preflight feature on the document? What does Font Book have to say about the font? How about InD's Find Font feature?
